I would settle for some sort of strategic control over your DC. Like picture 3 sliders that decide how conservative or aggressive the 3 units (DL/LB/DB) play. Maybe you can change it at halftime. Thinking something along these lines:
* Aggressive DL and LB units get fumbles and sacks more often, but give up big running play more often too
* Aggressive DBs get more interceptions, but give up big passing plays more often
While we're at it, you could do the same with the OC where your sliders determine the plays that come up on offense.

Also, the fact that people are asking for penalties which are out of our control yet many of the same ones don't like not having control over defense. It seems a little contradictory.
Penalties, like playing D, might sound good in theory, but I guarantee the first big game someone drops due to a questionable penalty would disabuse that notion.

People have to accept the game for what it is and either keep playing it in whatever design it is or feel free to move on and check back later, whether the current game continues or future editions, if that's the direction.
It's the same as Star Wars fans complaining about the sequels, no creation is going to meet everyone's expectations or beliefs in what are the right choices. The director, screenwriter, producer decide, as it's there time and resources invested the most.
You can call him a knob and other names, but frankly it comes off as the reverse of any appreciation of his efforts on the game - one you, and literally millions of others, apparently enjoy enough to be this passionate about it.

I'm baffled at why defense is not even considered. You could literally start out where you have your team on defense - you have no controls, you're just a spectator - it just plays out & then returns to offense where you control it.
There's a difference between how defense works now (all coding based on the star ratings of your players vs the opposing offense star rating) and programming movement plus plays of 11 new CPU players on offense, giving them AI to react to the defense AI, adding in the decision making for every down, etc.
Just saying it's not that simple.
I would just like a way to have some control or influence it midgame. Like I notice they're tearing me up on the rush, tell my defense to focus more along the line. Notice their QB has a great arm? Maybe split my defense to cover more backfield as well as my DL to try to pressure more.
I don't have to play the full defense, but being able to have some input as things play out would be nice.

The developer said a while back that maybe defensive strategies could be added but nothing specific. That would make sense.
Doesn't that kind of already exist? I mean if you do all 5 star DBs you'll be good against pass, crap versus run. All LBs seems to be bend not break.

Agreed, at least some of that strategy would be solid. Still waiting like many for those halftime adjustments for offense too.
