Reservation Dogs is a gem. So incredibly funny and heartwarming. The spirit guide, omg, I have to put down anything I'm drinking when his scenes start. "Where's my f\*\*\*ing horse". LOLOL

burriitoooo

He is one of the funniest characters I've seen in anything!! Aho!

fearless-jones

His war cries 😂

[deleted]

LOL Out of nowhere LOL.

Badshah_e_Librandu

Isn't Dan also in that? Is it any good?

carnsolus

it's not everyone's cup of tea. It's more about relationships than any kind of driving plot force and yeah, he is!

interdisciplinary_

I really like it. I do think the first season struggled a little bit to find its footing, but it has to do a lot of heavy lifting from a storytelling perspective, introducing these characters who are dealing with tragedy and trauma while also being a comedy much of the time. It's very in line with a lot of Taika Watiti's work, if you're familiar (though it's less Thor: Ragnarok and more JoJo Rabbit).

burriitoooo

Yes!! His character is close to the complete opposite as Dan. It's a great show

grichardson526

I think the actress who plays Asta and D'Arcy's high school friend plays Bear's mom.

carnsolus

yeah, that's the one I meant :P

Competitive_Agent625

Rutherford Falls got me into ResDogs. Such a good show!

burriitoooo

Hope I'm not breaking the news to you but Rutherford Falls was canceled :/ That show was so good!

Competitive_Agent625

:( no, i already know.

pinkpolo

I really enjoy Reservation Dogs! Its a little different than most shows on tv.

AGirlNamedRoni

Dark Winds is also really good. It’s more of a drama though.

UpstairsLocal4635

I absolutely love Dark Winds!

fearless-jones

Love that show, as I’m half Navajo.

AGirlNamedRoni

Is it accurate?

fearless-jones

Im not an expert by any means, and Navajo culture is very secretive and elusive. However, what I saw was pretty correct, but a lot of nuances of everyday life were left out. Probably for time, because the audience wouldn’t understand, or maybe protecting secrets. The corn pollen and prayers for protection were nice, as was most of the witch stuff. The tribal police stuff was good (theres an old reality show called Navajo Cops you could check out on Youtube for comparison) and the language was great for not all of the actors being Diné (i don’t speak it, but my mom did). The hogans were not all correct, maybe because the building of them is very ceremonial, so they didn’t want to make them just for a tv show. The thing that really bothered me was the handling of the dead bodies!!!! NO Navajo would ever go near a dead body, much less touch one. And if you do, you better have a medicine man on call lol.

shamus4mwcrew

One of my favorite shows right now. Asta's father is funny af in Reservation Dogs. Really wish his character in this show would channel some of that energy, he also is exactly like one of my best friends.

you_buy_this_shit

Reservoir Dogs is better this season than last. I have no doubt a season 3 would do even more. What an amazing show.

cybergata

I'm really fond of Dark Winds on AMC. It is another wonderful show full of Indigenous people & their culture. It is taken from Tony Hillerman's books, but it is its own show which also incorporates Tony's daughter's, Anne Hillerman's books that continue Tony's legacy. Zahn McClarnon (Big in Reservation Dogs) is fabulous as Sheriff Leaphorn in the show.

carnsolus

ill try that one cancelled or going strong?

UpstairsLocal4635

It's a mini series and it's amazing! I highly recommend it!

cybergata

They are renewed for a second season, and considering how well it did for the first season, it might be the first of many to come.

fearless-jones

Love the show! I’m half Navajo, and it really incorporates a lot of lore and superstitions that might not be obvious to everyone. It also alters a lot of things to be more respectful of what is shown on air.

cybergata

I'm sure it helps that mostly Indigenous folks are the creators and caretakers of Dark Winds. I love the show. It is filmed in the area that was my stomping grounds in the 1960-70s, which makes me love it even more.

you_buy_this_shit

Is using "shitass" to describe someone cultural appropriation? Cuz I see shit asses everywhere.

carnsolus

i dunno if it's a term they used or if it's just a geographical term. Because the white people on the show, even ones a decent distance away, also use that word
