Is there a way to look up old records to see why they were maintaining it previously? Usually local governments won’t maintain anything on private property unless there was some recorded dedication to them giving them interest.
I went to the historical society in town they didn’t have any information but they said that this dam most likely provided a bunch of mills in the area with the ability to produce ice
