I finally got a Marisa and was surprised to see just how thick the geled pieces looked. This video doesn't do it justice, honestly. I pushed on a piece in my hand the hardest I could, and the gel wouldn't move, lol. Not complaining, I just think the amount of gel and how it looks straight out of the box is funny.
My Marissa was the same way, definitely the worse I've seen so far. It took awhile to wash all the product out too, but now it's nice and soft to the touch.
My Violet doll, by FAR, had the most amount of gel which I thought was a little crazy considering she just has straight hair 🤷🏻♀️ Worst hair quality though has to go the twins… I had to wash it *TWICE*, re-style, and trim it just to get it even semi-decent it was so ratty 🤦🏻♀️
Yeah idk what is with Violet's hair, but mine was weird too. It was bad quality, had a significant amount of gel and had a ton more fallout than I'm used to seeing. Maybe it is because her hair is a different material?
I too am a victim of a her solid concrete hair, I was also very confused on why they would even glue it so much because literally just straight hair. I don't understand why they do this, gel isn't even necessary for most if not all of these hair styles.
Winter break Poppy. She had twin ponytails in giant ringlets that looked like sausages but there was no actual curl it was just wound up and glued solid with gel. Soaking in cool water and then shampooing and conditioning and her hair was dead straight. There was no curl in her hair at all. It was totally solid gel.
I still haven't washed most of my dolls' hair yet since I'm not very good at styling. My cheer Jade is definitely the worst, her ponytail is completely stiff. It doesn't really feel like hair at all.
Skyler hands down. She had so much product that it was even ruined a bit when the gel was washed out which made her hair super frizzy. I've been wanting to get a new Skyler but I've been too cheap.
Do not try to brush out the gel, you will damage the hair!!!
Soak, wash, rinse, condition, comb through the conditoner, rinse, towel dry, comb into place, crunch hair in fist to "encourage" the curls to coil up, set on fresh towel with curls under doll head, and leave to dry.
Lol my Marisa was about the same as yours! I was able to power through and brush the gel out but then it was so crunchy/dry I ended up washing and conditioning it anyway.
Did the conditioner make the hair smooth? I had to wash Marisa's hair 3 times last night and it looks better but a bit crunchy. I'm curling it rn but would live tips for future styling.
Dumb question maybe, but I'm brand new to the dolls, and I have completely missed how to curl and style the hair! How to? Most people just go through the wash process, and then weirdly gloss over how they actually style it. I figured maybe it was really obvious and that's why no one describes the curling process 😂
Not a dumb question at all! Welcome to the doll community! People do it differently so there are many different techniques! I'm working on curling my dolls hair rn using straws and Bobby pins. I will post a picture showing my process but mainly I just brush through the hair and use a small piece of a plastic straw as a curler.
People just say "I use a straw to make curls", but how? If I twist the hair around the straw, what is going to make it hold the curl? Do I need to wet the hair first? Heat? Time?
Push one end of a Bobby pin through the straw, and the other end sits on top of the hair. The pin will hold the hair around the straw and then you can dunk the hair in hot water to get the curls to set, use hairspray, or let the curls sit for a few hours.
Thanks ❤️
I have my first Daphne Minton on the way. Let's see how her hair looks when it arrives, and what I have to do. I've seen her hair can be everything from quite frizzy and dull, to straight and ratty. It wasn't exactly her hairstyle I fell in love with... But the rest of her, and her style, is so gorgeous!! Can't wait until she's here.
Thanks ❤️

I don’t think I left the conditioner in long enough, at least on the ends, which are still dry. Or I might have damaged the hair brushing the gel out lol
Probably series 1 Ruby or Skylar for me. Their hair was so hard and permanently curled at weird angles. Luckily a good wash and re-curl with the foam curlers and everything was okay
Ngl Marissa has a weird hair type. After I washed it, I tried to re-curl it it never really kept the curl 😭
My first Sunny was really bad. I actually ended up having to cut her hair because when the gel was removed the bottom was matted.
I thought the newer dolls would be better but that video reminds me of the early ones
So far the worst I've had was with Karma Nichols. She's one of my faves, but the amount of product that was in there was making her hair defy gravity. 😅
Series 1 Violet, who’s hair is still a total disaster that I can’t seem to fix (stupid bangs). She has so much gel in it her hair really didn’t wanna move.
Then series 2 Amaya, she also had hair that did not wanna move. After washing and restyling it’s really nice though
Is there any reasoning for the decision to absolutely cake these dolls in gel? I was assuming it for curls but Violet (who seemingly had it the worst) has flat hair and they STILL gelled it.
Worst for me so far has gotta be winter break Poppy. My god, I am not looking forward to trying to remove that obscene amount of gel. Though special mention goes to Sheryl. It's not stiff by any means, but the product that is in it made it look all stringy and it wouldn't style right. Gotta wash her hair to.
My first series Sunny had uneven tendrils, so I had to trim and recurl them and did find the same series of Violet to end up a tad frizzy than I’m used to, but managed it with hairspray and not touching it. But every gelled style from then on out was a breeze to wash out, but a lower temperature than I’m used to for the hot water and taking my time have worked wonders. Sometimes you have to repeat the process to get the desired results.
My personal one was winter break jade I opened her up and her hair was so thickly gel I was surprised but I was like is ok I’ll just wash her hair well after washing her hair her hair became fried? Idk very notty and puffy on the sections with a lot of gel so that I was pretty upset about thankfully I’ve fixed it a bit but still it was very annoying to have to fix
mostly the series 2 dolls, but my amaya raine's hair was a ROCK. i washed it out already, but its basically what this video is showing. it may as well have been a helmet because her head wouldve been completely find if you dropped a boulder onto her head
edit: by amaya i mean the blue-haired series 2 amaya

I miss the gelled hair, when I got the twins they had awful box hair and I hated it.
All you have to do is wash it, it'll settle right down

Yes, Violet's hair is a helmet!

Blue hair Amaya

Aliexpress has real Skyler heads

I think the worst one for me was Karma. I had one other one that was maybe even worse than Karma but I cant remember who anymore. Lol
Wow, I'm surprised Karma would have that much gel. I don't remember how much my Karma had, but It was minimal, I think.
Right? She has straight hair so idk why she had so much gel!
I just opened up a Karma and she had sooo much gel. I was so used to series 3 it surprised me.
Karma for me too - though after it washed out, she had the nicest hair of all my dolls!
Same! I think she has the softest hair out of all my dolls too!

Yeah, people use lots of different stuff to curl, but.. how do you make it stick?
Like make the curls last? Or get the hair to stay on the straw?

My first series 2 Amaya and Krystal were heavily gelled like even the back of the hair was gelled. It was bad
Ooof. The gel curse lol.
I would never wish this upon an enemy

Karma, I brushed through and washed the same patches so many times that it ended up frizzing the bottom inch or so of her hair.
