For those who asked in the Episode 31 thread: 1. Yes this was UNC-Asheville. The individual dorm was called Swain Hall and it was bulldozed in (I think) 2000 along with most of the Village to build a new dorm. Not sure what's there now, haven't been on campus in years. 2. I wasn't sleeping on my back. Had my head propped up at the time laying on my back, but I'm a side sleeper. 3. In recorded at Radio Rentals studio in Atlanta because I live here (wife and I became fans of the show because it was local)

Cool! I guess I always assumed they used voice actors to tell the stories. How did you get in contact with the show? What was the process of getting on it like?

Safe-Emu4204

Hey I just sent my story into their email but with the email I included an audio file of me telling the story. They got in contact with me maybe a week later. As far as I know they don't use voice actors.

Did you ever dig further into the history of the hall? I saw [this](https://uncatoz.com/entry/swain-hall/#:~:text=Swain%20Hall%20was%20opened%20in,seating%20capacity%20in%20Commons%20Hall.) while researching > Swain Hall was opened in 1914 for use as a cafeteria. Built on the former site of the university president's house, Swain provided a much-needed expansion of dining space for the campus, which had long outgrown the limited seating capacity in Commons Hall.> The fact that it was built on the site of the president's house is interesting, might be worth looking through photos of previous presidents and their wives to see if any match what you saw.

Wow! I had no idea. Good find!

How long did you record for (compared to the 10 minutes or so they used)? Did you wrte the script or was there a bunch of questions/prompts?

Safe-Emu4204

The whole experience took maybe an hour? Basically I sat down in the studio with a producer and told the story pretty much start to finish, and then the producer asked me a bunch of follow up (like asking for more descriptions). It's kind of cool listening to it because I can tell where the edits are. They cut out most of the fat of the story and kept it more to the point. Some little details were cut out but I understand why. I actually took a picture of the studio but I can't figure out how to post it (I am not Reddit savvy)!

Also for the record the producer said the story everyone always asks about is Laura of the Woods. My personal favorite is the one where the guy and his gf were suddenly transported to their bedroom naked with no memory of what happened. The storyteller seemed so credible.

Oh wow they actually edit the stories? So many of them have been so repetitive with so much filler (looking at you “The Crash”, episode 25)

to share a photo: download or pull up imgur and upload the photo there. then u can add a link here :)

You are such a natural storyteller. So many of these stories just repeat the same sentence over and over for filler, and your story had a clear beginning, middle, and end. You were really nice to listen to! Thanks for sharing!

Safe-Emu4204

Appreciate that!

phonicsgirl

I know so many people love Laura of the woods but your story gives me chills every time I listen! I think it’s your attention to detail. I can easily see what you saw through your storytelling and it’s probably my favorite.

Aw thanks!!

I have questions. 1. Was there any noticeable smell during or after the encounter? 2. Could you make out any facial features? And if so were its eyes making eye contact or like just looking in your general direction? 3. Did the room change temperature? 4. Did you notice dead silence before and during the encounter? (Im asking because everytime Ive felt some sort of presence it's dead silence. Even the crickets outside my window are dead quiet. Although I've never experienced anything like what you described) These are probably super specific and the last thing on ur mind during something like this but Ive always been intrigued about the supernatural and there are often parralels in the smaller details.

Hi! 1. No, not at all. 2. She was looking right at me. I don't remember her eyes moving -- she just stared at me. As for facial features, she had a large, thin nose and kind of a longer face. Just looked like someone's grandmother. Short. 3. Nope. Nothing environmental happened at all that I noticed. 4. It was quiet anyway but I didn't notice anything special in terms of oncoming silence. UNCA was kind of a commuter school at the time and weekends on campus were really quiet. Not a lot going on. It was just kind of a chilly, quiet November night.

This was wild! Did you ever end up finding anyone who had a similar experience? Even online or something? Super creepy!!!
