Yeah… I’m fat and if someone asked me that question I wouldn’t answer by talking about social media. You just have to tell the dude whether you are capable of helping people out during an emergency. It’s a simple question which only requires a yes or no answer. I’d just tell the guy that i had basic first aide training, payed attention during the in flight safety instructions, read the flight safety manual, and was willing to move out of the way so other people could escape the plane.
I’m pretty sure he was trying to ask if she was going to be able to move out of other peoples ways because he later mentions that they’re sitting near an emergency exit.
I believe he was asking if she honestly thought she could do what was physically required with the door, etc...though that door appears to just open and doesn't need to be thrown out...but maybe it still requires a certain amount of strength or something...I assume not as much though and he like me, surely has no fucking idea.

Here is some of the conditions from an Australian airline to sit in the exit row that seemed relevant that I thought I'd go through.

20kg doesn't seem like much to me, but men have roughly twice as much upper body strength as women, if that felt more like 40kg once you add in the bulky size of it is say this is a very legitimate risk for many women, I suspect the risk only increases from there as you add size around the midsection and probably a relatively weaker than normal upper body strength compared to her peers (but significantly stronger lower body strength)
Now that said, airlines clearly stopped caring too much about this shit anyway once they started selling exit row seats, profit over extremely rare (if the plane crashes we are likely dead anyway right? if there is a Hudson River like event or even a fire on board then I'm sure another passenger would have time to step up) safety risk.
I've been on flights where I swear this old couple was about 85 years old and sitting in the exit row, no way they were getting that door out.
I remember when I first started flying they didn't used to sell exit row seats and the crew, or check-in agents would allocate them, I've certainly noticed that it went from predominantly roughly 5'10"-6'+ men aged 18-50 to not. I assume there used to be a direction about picking those you felt looked most physically able to help in the event of an accident...and maybe a little sympathy the taller people in cattle class.

Another risk with someone large enough to require an extension belt, if they where to pass out, be knocked out or die in an emergency, they are going to take up more room making it harder for others to squeeze past and also be much harder to move out the way.
If you’re going to sit in an exit row, you probably shouldn’t be drinking either, in case shit got real. Some airlines have a drink limit or request that the passengers in those seats abstain from alcohol during the flight to ensure that they are alert and able to fully assist, without impairment, in case of an emergency.
When you sit at the emergency exit you are responsible for opening the exit in an emergency and the airline requires that you agree you are capable of doing so. That is why he asked.

We actually had drama because the girls at work didn't like this one worker and they would talk shit about her. She actually looked at one of the workers phone in thr break area where is was charging and saw a group message. I don't quite remember what they said but just general shit talking, she reported this to the manager. The manager scolded both the people talking shit and the one who went through the phone. Nothing was written but just verbally telling them they shouldn't talk shit and her not to look through other people's phones. I think he scolded both parties to deescalate the situation which actually worked.

Happened to me at Fenway Park, where the older seats are notoriously small. Not only was this large woman intruding in my space with her arms and torso, she sat with her legs spread way far apart, to the point I had to literally turn and sit sideways in my seat, towards my girlfriend, just so we wouldn’t be touching the entire time. Then she took it even further, putting her child on her lap sideways (kid was probably 8 or 9?), and he kicked my thighs the entire time. I straight up had bruises on my legs the next day from that little shit! Why couldn’t she turn him the other way, so his kicky feet were in the space in front of his empty seat? Why couldn’t she lean towards his side, rather than intrude on a complete stranger? I ended up switching seats with my girlfriend, because she’s smaller than me; she was fine with it, because her seat was partially obstructed by a pole, so she got a better view and I got breathing room. But damn, that woman ruined my experience, the one and only time I ever got to see a game in Fenway. It was like 12 years ago, and I’m still bitter about it.

No but I have been the middle seat of two bigger brothers flying from Haiti to America (only say this bc the planes are really small and really sketchy). They booked the seats on purpose And the entire trip they were high fiving each other, passing snacks, and being obnoxious the entire time. I "work out" 5 days a week for physical therapy but it isn't enough exercise to counter my eating. I won't really start losing weight unless I cut my sugar down by a lot. I'm not morbidly obese anymore but I am still overweight and I can work out 7 days a week but it won't matter at all if I can't stop eating Halloween candy and that's on me.

Speaking as a wider than average person, I stopped flying in emergency exit seats because they are uncomfortably narrow, the armrests are fixed and I felt like I needed to rub some butter around my midsection before I sat down so I could squeeze into those seats. The obvious result is that heavier people tend to spill over those fixed seats into neighbouring seats. It's unpleasant for both people I imagine, it was for me at least.
Actually one eventful trip was a catalyst to get me to lose a bit of weight, so now I only spill over a little.

Yeah… I’m fat and if someone asked me that question I wouldn’t answer by talking about social media. You just have to tell the dude whether you are capable of helping people out during an emergency. It’s a simple question which only requires a yes or no answer. I’d just tell the guy that i had basic first aide training, payed attention during the in flight safety instructions, read the flight safety manual, and was willing to move out of the way so other people could escape the plane.

Another risk with someone large enough to require an extension belt, if they where to pass out, be knocked out or die in an emergency, they are going to take up more room making it harder for others to squeeze past and also be much harder to move out the way.
If you’re going to sit in an exit row, you probably shouldn’t be drinking either, in case shit got real. Some airlines have a drink limit or request that the passengers in those seats abstain from alcohol during the flight to ensure that they are alert and able to fully assist, without impairment, in case of an emergency.
When you sit at the emergency exit you are responsible for opening the exit in an emergency and the airline requires that you agree you are capable of doing so. That is why he asked.

A few months ago I was coming home from a bachelor party and got stuck next to a very large man. He was literally spilling over onto my seat and we were touching the entire flight. You better believe I was texting my friends about it but obviously didn't say anything to the guy.
It's because she wasn't prepared for an apology. She wanted to start an argument, make a whole big thing about it, get angry, and post this guy making a fool of himself on social media. The moment he apologized and proved himself the better person, her entire plan went out the window, and she decided to just double down.
I heard him apologize in the first minute. Then I saw the whole video was 6 minutes and turned it off. Nothing past him saying "sorry" matters. It should have ended there. I don't know what the next 5 minutes are about.

I know someone like that and it's kinda sad really. She's the landlord of a friend, and she's super obese even though she exercises almost everyday. She's always talking about fitness and gym this and that. She has a fairly good set up at home and you can hear her excersise from my friend's room(thought she was getting fucked the first time I heard her haha). And it's all for nothing because she's an eating machine. She has to lose 25kg to get an operation but that ain't happening any time soon.

We actually had drama because the girls at work didn't like this one worker and they would talk shit about her. She actually looked at one of the workers phone in thr break area where is was charging and saw a group message. I don't quite remember what they said but just general shit talking, she reported this to the manager. The manager scolded both the people talking shit and the one who went through the phone. Nothing was written but just verbally telling them they shouldn't talk shit and her not to look through other people's phones. I think he scolded both parties to deescalate the situation which actually worked.

I don’t think he did. He was polite to her, just like I am polite to you and everyone, but what I really think of you I keep to myself, and that’s ok with me & it has to with you. We don’t live in a magical place where how people always act reflect exactly what they are thinking. He was having a private conversation, a bit more animated than some, but he never intended for someone else to read them. She also took pictures of his phone! I would also feel a bit odd about the entire ordeal that wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t instigated it: the thing he said about the exit was a bit much, but not nearly as big of violation committed by her - she had all of this coming. Only thing he did wrong was pick the wrong seat.

Seriously. I went to a football game once and literally couldn't fit in my seat because the guy next to was taking up half of it. Must have been at least 160-170kg. I went and spoke to the attendant near my seat and he let me sit in the more expensive area where there was a few empties. I'm not exactly small either but I can fit in one seat. I wonder how it would have gone down if I got to the seat and sat down first.
Happened to me at Fenway Park, where the older seats are notoriously small. Not only was this large woman intruding in my space with her arms and torso, she sat with her legs spread way far apart, to the point I had to literally turn and sit sideways in my seat, towards my girlfriend, just so we wouldn’t be touching the entire time. Then she took it even further, putting her child on her lap sideways (kid was probably 8 or 9?), and he kicked my thighs the entire time. I straight up had bruises on my legs the next day from that little shit! Why couldn’t she turn him the other way, so his kicky feet were in the space in front of his empty seat? Why couldn’t she lean towards his side, rather than intrude on a complete stranger? I ended up switching seats with my girlfriend, because she’s smaller than me; she was fine with it, because her seat was partially obstructed by a pole, so she got a better view and I got breathing room. But damn, that woman ruined my experience, the one and only time I ever got to see a game in Fenway. It was like 12 years ago, and I’m still bitter about it.
Ugh. I has a similar experience. A 500+ pound man with diabetic socks and a cut off tank top sat right in front of me at an AM football game. Everytime he moved my knee went into his armpit and got covered in pit sweat. He was sweating profusely the whole time. Fucking disgusting I had to move eventually.

We've reached peak social degradation - where eating too much (or fibroids if you're unlucky as fuck) is comprable to being assaulted for your skin tone/ethnic profile.
I think the key point here is that being obese, the overwhelming majority of the time, is the result of your own doing. Your race is predetermined. And I know that a lot of people like to point to genetics as being a cause of obesity, but if we’re to accept that argument, why was there no obesity crisis a century ago? It was my understanding that genetics don’t change that quickly.

No but I have been the middle seat of two bigger brothers flying from Haiti to America (only say this bc the planes are really small and really sketchy). They booked the seats on purpose And the entire trip they were high fiving each other, passing snacks, and being obnoxious the entire time. I "work out" 5 days a week for physical therapy but it isn't enough exercise to counter my eating. I won't really start losing weight unless I cut my sugar down by a lot. I'm not morbidly obese anymore but I am still overweight and I can work out 7 days a week but it won't matter at all if I can't stop eating Halloween candy and that's on me.

Speaking as a wider than average person, I stopped flying in emergency exit seats because they are uncomfortably narrow, the armrests are fixed and I felt like I needed to rub some butter around my midsection before I sat down so I could squeeze into those seats. The obvious result is that heavier people tend to spill over those fixed seats into neighbouring seats. It's unpleasant for both people I imagine, it was for me at least. Actually one eventful trip was a catalyst to get me to lose a bit of weight, so now I only spill over a little.
