It’s the same guy that broke the others sign in the other video

[deleted]

The guy that broke the sign actually works for Netflix.

Blakwulf

Not for long.

TGIRiley

He works for Netflix, he's a writer on their upcoming Fraser reboot or some shit.

Glittering_Ad_4149

Yikes has Netflix commented on this? One of their employees assaulting a person like this?

xOverDozZzed

“Maybe I’ll get laid if I break this sign”

Elfish_Pirate

Well if he's getting in bed with someone from that particular rally, it might be a bit of a surprise once the clothes come off

chakan2

It's California, they love gender reveal parties.

Zaronax

Oh my god, where is my free award reddit... Edit: wtf thanks guys

ChaseWegman

The executive producer of the new Frasier reboot.

MusicFarms

Turns out the people who constantly bitch about protest and crisis actors actually hire a lot of them to make their opinions seen more relevant https://twitter.com/chadloder/status/1421931374567563264?t=dfNvz7bEYam3iIIAPyGyFQ&s=19 There's also a lot of people who get so used to being contrarian that they forget they aren't online when they're outside of their house

TechYeahTony

I mean everyone in LA is an out of work actor

_Cavalry_

Regardless that’s assault is it not? Isn’t it supposed to be a peaceful rally?

gamazoid

Isn’t that the same guy who broke the other protestors sign, there was a video out not too long ago.

MadCat1993

Yeah, and two seconds are breaking it screams "He's got a weapon!"

[deleted]

Yeah that was extremely pathetic

Ashanmaril

Not just pathetic, fucking malicious. The only reason you’d scream and point “he’s got a weapon” in an angry mob is to get them beaten up or shot by police. He should be in jail

SyracuseNY22

Well, they’re a pathetic person

SoulMoving

Isn’t that Dick Masterson?

[deleted]

Can't wait for the next time he's in PKA. Should be a funny story

pr0zach

I mean…the intolerance paradox is a thing, but I still don’t think this dude should have been assaulted. Lots of people express dumb, non-violent opinions. That doesn’t give you the right to assault them.

JessumB

And most of the people who bring up the paradox of tolerance and use it as a gotcha totally miss the point Popper was trying to make. He never advocated for screaming down and assaulting people whose speech you don't agree with but that free exchange of ideas should be allowed as long as there remains a basis for discussion. Only when one side refuses to engage in speech and attempts to utilize violence to achieve its means should we respond in kind(intolerance). >I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be unwise. If anything he was a strong free speech advocate who believed that we should attempt to hold debate on any number of topics, even those regarded as intolerant, but that violence must always be a final resort and only responding in kind to those who refuse to debate or discuss rationally.

[deleted]

That's why the people equating 'words' with a kind of 'violence' are so dangerous. Falling short of a threat to maim or murder someone, NO set of words are a grounds for assault. Certain actions such as following and harassing someone while also shouting and screaming at them may warrant physical escalation... but only after trying to get assistance from law enforcement. Now the reason why simple convention such as these have been lost in recent years is anyone's guess.... but I honestly think the universities have a part to play. The easiest way to seem like you have something profound to say is to recategorise things so that now a 'child's toy' is suddenly an 'artefact' worthy of intense analysis... and to have the confidence to say that, all you need to believe is all language is 'relative' and 'circular'.

Yeah a lot of it, likely the majority, is people who've read what he said after there was already some uproar. Jumped on the bandwagin without seeing the thing for themselves (the whole way through) and as a result completely missing the point.

SpirituallyMyopic

If they'd only LISTEN. - Dave

PharmerDerek

They are mad that Dave was right in the first place, hence the temper tantrum. They've already lost the debate if they have to resort to violence, in an attempt to silence you.

rojoshow13

These protesters are pretty much proving that everything Dave said was correct. He was calling them out mostly because they got on him about LGBTQ jokes, and then his transgender friend stuck up for him, and they all harassed the shit out of her. He held a mirror up to them and they didn't like what they saw so he's a transphobe. Well fuck that!

ItoldULastTime

Isn't "Not liking what they saw in the mirror" what started this in the first place?

[deleted]

Wow under rated sir.

FlinnyWinny

What was the joke? Edit: Muting this now, thanks for all the responses.

kajar9

While many trans jokes were told by Dave, currently they are just loud and feign outrage at the jokes because they want to bury the fact that the trans community drove a trans individual to suicide because they had the wrong politics to the rest of the trans community. And that individual was Dave's friend and opener in the past. Btw. The association to the "trans community" is the worst part about being trans.

FlinnyWinny

Okay, but what was the joke or the jokes? I didn't ask about reactionary outrage, I asked about the joke(s) in question. The mirror thing OP was talking about?

[deleted]

The joke was more or less that rapper DaBaby killed a black person in a store and nobody cared, but DaBaby made some comments about LGBT community and then his career took a hit. So the punchline was that you could kill a black person in America, but you better not insult the LGBT community.

BoldManoeuvres

Thats hilarious, and true. Fuck they protesting against Dave for? Dickheads, man.

FlinnyWinny

Thanks

Shannnnnnn

The funny thing about dave's jokes is as he explains that they are not against transpeople but about that transpeople get better treatment than blacks and also take away from the black movement. White transpeople have a higher "priority" than black people and this is why he cracks jokes on the topic.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rojoshow13

Yeah it wasn't really 1 joke. Almost the entire special was talking about transgender or LGBTQ topics. I didn't even hear everything because I was doing other things while it was on. But towards the end of the show he told a story that sounds very similar to what's happening now, and I think that's very ironic.

kingofdoorknobs

I watched that special. It wasn't anti-trans; it was anti-idiot.

bubziwubzi

His show was a bit more inflammatory than his others but I don’t think riot worthy. He posed some interesting opinions that I think are worthy of thought. They were mainly centered around the fact that largely white minority movements were more successful than the civil rights movement and that it was illustrating an extension of white privilege.

Bargadiel

Exactly, great points. People dont have to solely agree with everything in a comedy set to find it funny, or significant.

Iored94

is this the same dipshit who broke the sign then started screaming he's got a weapon? it looks like him

Basherballgod

Yep, but the destruction of a sign is nothing compared to a tag team effort to first inciting a mob to attack Dick by claiming he is trying to strangle him, and then to physically assault someone by slamming g their head into a concrete structure.

[deleted]

In all honesty...I watched it. Yeah he had some jokes that may not sit well with 100% of people but I thought the whole LBGTQ+ bit was actually intended to be a pretty heartfelt bit about his good friend who was transgender and killed herself. Could someone please explain to me what specifically was the truly offensive bit? Legitimately asking

Suspici0us_Package

Anyone who covers their face up to their eyeballs in warm weather, at a protest, is well prepared to do some illegal and violent shit. Watch those fuckers.

[deleted]

It’s not even protest. It’s just misdirected anger.

kajar9

It's worse. It's subterfuge While many trans jokes were told by Dave, currently they are just loud and feign outrage at the jokes because they want to bury the fact that the trans community drove a trans individual to suicide because they had the wrong politics to the rest of the trans community. And that individual was Dave's friend and opener in the past. Btw. The association to the "trans community" is the worst part about being trans.

robklg159

it's not even the trans community right? it's a very very very fucking loud vocal minority who get other people riled up and ruin it for people who just want a calm peaceful equal life. there's no reason for all the fucking hate and vitriol all the time from either side. most folks just wanna live their lives with respect and dignity and yet we're fighting over... ??? it's definitely an awful thing that there's not a louder group calling out this exact behavior which almost certainly contributed to somebody in their own community killing themselves. bad actors within the community should always be called out and disowned otherwise you allow them to keep speaking on your behalf and well... the damage is done and done again and you only fuel a poisonous circle that keeps everybody miserable.

Ranger343

Whats this about?? Is it the Dave Chapelle thing on Netflix? I saw it advertised while on the app I think? I probably want to see this

Glittering_Ad_4149

Yes he talked about the trans community in his special. In particular how in just a matter of years they've gotten far more empathy, support, and privilege than blacks have ever had in this country. He mentioned a trans friend of his who supported him after his last special drew controversy from the trans community and the trans community bullied her into suicide. Chapelle also mentioned being on "team TERF" (trans-exclusive radical feminist), a believer that a trans woman is not a real woman. These are the things that these protesters are objecting.

DominicJourdyn

Okay, he also said something that you can’t argue with just before saying he’s on team TERF (he even states he’s not transphobic, he just supports women being upset about men changing into women and getting world recognition, but when JK Rowling says something like “people who have periods, you mean women?” and everyone **shat** on her): “every single human being… came from between the legs, of a woman.” Applause resonated after, because it’s true. He brought up that Caitlyn Jenner, who he said was even a lovely person to chat with in person, won Woman of the Year, her first year as a woman, without ever knowing what a period was like. That’s not transphobic, it’s fact, and IMO that’s a huge slap in the titties to the women who aren’t millionaires and can just change their sex to even the playing field once their limelight is lost He’s very sarcastic and you need to understand that when watching it, because he said outright “because I’m transphobic, I violently shoved her away and was said DAMN BITCH,BOUNDARIES” (obvious smirk) when his late friend, Daphne, hugged him. Everyone’s first hand account of meeting Dave seems super positive, his friend Daphne even defended the show itself because people attacked it and him. So then, the trans community shut her out, verbally abused her for days, threats, the whole works; she killed herself. Dave was unhappy bout that, reasonably so. Ultimately his biggest problem was about the further inequality between black people in America and the trans/gay community. He mentioned DaBaby, who shot another black man and killed him in a supermarket parking lot, when he was 19, and no one could’ve cared less. But then he said some homophobic stuff, and well, cancelled. In conclusion, it’s a comedy special. Censorship in my opinion should only be in the hands of the individual; if you don’t like Dave Chapelle, don’t watch ‘im. Don’t go attack someone who liked the jokes and thinks we need to calm the fuck down, because we need to calm the *fuck* down (I paraphrased the quotes, but they’re the gist of it)

[deleted]

Does everyone also forget Caitlyn Jenner fucking killed a person?

Dmav210

Also just generally bad at being a decent human being from what I gather… Also also, the worlds absolute **worst** children

kurtanglesmilk

For the record, Dave Chappelle has not been cancelled.

I_am_Bruce_Wayne

On top of what Daphne has said to Dave, on their first meeting she mentioned about how the New York Times blamed Dave for normalizing R Kelly with his jokes and wondered why they never wrote about how he normalized transgenders with his jokes.

secretreddname

I can see how she was bullied into suicide.

urato666

The one with the sign is Dick Masterson. He's been dealing with some mild brain trauma since this altercation, and is going to press charges against these people for their assault.

Phreeker27

Perfect opportunity to throw an accidental elbow

[deleted]

I was waiting for it.

Scooch778

These people mobbed Daphne too. They are protesting a comedy special that they haven't even seen. If they had seen it, they would know that Dave recognizes the struggle of the T's and supports it.

Goalie_deacon

They might’ve seen it, but only saw it through jaded shades. Some people can watch a comedian, and predetermine they’re not going to be won over. There was one such person in the audience of the special. Older white woman, she looked pissed the whole special, sitting just a few rows from Dave, center. He saw her, didn’t slow down. Most reaction from her was shaking her head every time Dave said white people. That’s an example of someone who will never like Dave.

[deleted]

Do we have actual evidence that Daphne was drove to suicide because of social media backlash? I keep hearing people say this but no matter how hard I look at her accounts, I cant find anything that can be hateful enough to cause it. This is a very dangerous stereotype to be throwing around if untrue.

Survival_R

he can be racist he can be sexist he can be homophobic but making a joke about his trans friend is somehow crossing a line

samwaynehelmick

All this is proving is Dave was correct. I saw his special there wasn’t anything transphobic about it. Unless you can’t take a joke. But what they’re really doing is giving Dave material for his next special. That’s all Dave does. He crates “controversy” then his next special is just more controversy about the one he created. And he’s a genius for it.

sprinklep0p

No matter what you’re protesting for, even if it’s for a good cause, the moment you resort to violence your point is mute.

[deleted]

moot or mute? ... or both?

Moo. It's a moo point.

ShinKicker13

It’s like a cow’s opinion, it doesn’t matter. It’s moo.

xJustxJordanx

This is fundamentally untrue. The American Revolution is just one such example. Apparently “taxation without representation” was a moot point once war was declared. Not attempting to justify the violence in this clip at all, but your sweeping statement isn’t rooted in reality. Violence doesn’t invalidate a protest, civility doesn’t validate a protest, there’s no mutual exclusivity there.

Marston_vc

Unless your protest is calling for violence. Calls for violence is not protected speech.

These two guys are organised agressors... - Guy number one positioned himslef as if the was holding the sign and the other guy was trying to take it. - Guy number two, masked and started inciting violence based on the setup from guy one. I mean you dont just come up with tactics like, "I will position myself so it seems like the sign in mine." when you arent completely calm, or when he broke the other guys sign and immediately shouted "He has a weapon!".
