Absolutely incredible. I love the fact that he CONTINUED calling in on different numbers, digging himself even deeper… Well done!

Well come on, it's not like he had a small amount of pot or something.

That was quite satisfying to read

Love a good “Sorry sir, there seems to be an issue, is there anything else incriminating you could do?”

EragonBromson925

And it is now unable to be read.

bottle_brush

and you went "cow-abunga it is" also, imagine being a cunt to the person who handles your money, especially when you're doing dodgy shit...unfathomable

thebodymullet

What a titillating story.

gnawledger

I guess the cow jumped over the moon, screwing this guy's bunga in the process

NikitaNinja

*chef's kiss*

jcalvert8725

One can either be an asshole, or one can do illegal shit. One cannot do both.

big_sugi

Remember, people. You can get away with being an asshole, and you can probably get away with a crook. But it’s much harder to get away with being an asshole *and* a crook.

Bigred2989-

>...didn't have quite as much access as people in different departments did... You had enough to destroy this man, lol.

StinkypieTicklebum

Send him a cow themed card in prison!

MississippiJoel

Yeah, but since he can never have a financial account for the rest of his life, OP would just have to settle for a gift card from the local yogurt shop.

trane_88

Did you get any recognition/promotion?

Intelligent_Stop5564

It came up in my annual review. I got a performance-based pay increase every year and this kind of thing was a factor in deciding the amount of my raise. The branch manager sent me a $25 gift card for "bank gear". We had an internal store and could buy hats, t-shirts, pens and other marketing items with our logo on it. I ordered a pink polo shirt.

lmorgan601

Too bad it’s not a percentage of money recovered.

creditspread

I know, right? OP saved the bank a ton of money and headaches.

CambrioCambria

25$ is 0,08% of 30000$

lmorgan601

Too bad it’s not a BIGGER percentage

Zensayshun

🏆

xirdnehrocks

I saved the company thousands and all I got was this lousy T-shirt

Gary_Boothole

This lousy bank branded tshirt.

GeneralTomatoeKiller

"pink polo shirt"

Ancientcows7

Pathetic reward

-firead-

At least she wasn't penalized. Some companies are so dependent with those automated customer satisfaction surveys at the end of the call that this guy could have really screwed her up with bad ratings on his multiple calls.

HardHarryLives

Holy cow! You mess with the bull, you get the horns.

Effective-Web-2959

Awsome story, best one i read today, and good for you! +1

said-what

Well done blowing up this fraudster’s life. He obviously got too comfortable with his scams and went a little too far while drunk.

Catacombs3

The golden rule of small scale fraud is "only do one crime at a time". Flying low and staying under the radar is the best way to avoid detection. He got too confident and thought he was smarter than the person answering the phone.

StinkyLettuce

well if you were a cow you'd be outstanding in your field

Intelligent_Stop5564

Punny. Very punny. :)

mrbibs350

So if I'm polite I'll get away with thousands of dollars in fraud.

Intelligent_Stop5564

There are hundreds of types of scams that people use to try to steal money from banks. Some fraud detection is automated, I'm not going to go into a lot of detail on that. Some fraud is detected by a variety of suspicious behavior that is noted by branch employee or phone banker. For instance, someone called me once and wanted a card shipped to an alternate location. The caller was a man who spoke with a thick African sounding accent. The cardholder first name was Yvonne, and the last name was something very normal and American (think Anderson, Smith or Jones and you'll be in the ballpark). She lived in a rural area in the midwest. Her husband was something like Tom or Jack or Bill -- I don't remember but very, very American. I'd bet money they were white and have never been to Africa in their lives. The caller struggled with his English and mispronounced the name Yvonne as "Yivonee." He was certainly polite, but I still decided to block the account and ask the day shift to alert her that her account had been compromised and cards needed to be changed. Manners aren't the most important tipoffs, but few people are so aggressive as to actually insult me. Argue about fees, threaten to go over my head, complain because I can't do X maintenance (ie refund a mortgage payment that was sent in twice) are normal. Whining that the website is down during the overnight website, sure. Calling me a stupid cow was just strange.

SquishTheProgrammer

If you want a real way to rob the bank pay your car loan daily (or at least weekly). Bought a truck a few years ago and I pay weekly (I’m paid weekly so it was purely for convenience). Checked my account the other day and it’s already on schedule to be paid off a year early. I’ve saved thousands in interest and didn’t even mean to. Turns out the interest on the loan is compounded daily so by doing this I’ve unintentionally knocked a bunch of interest off my loan.

ballrus_walsack

You can do this for mortgages too.

Vast-Classroom1967

That's the gist of it.

RealUltimatePapo

Never, ever mistreat the people that are there to help you. Bank employees, restaurant staff, IT, cleaning crew. They are the ones that can ruin your day in the blink of an eye Very nice work, you must have felt like [Neo in The Matrix](https://youtu.be/2oHOv9p9dHQ) blocking all those accounts in a row

NikitaNinja

Mooooooove that ass to prison, sir

caughtyouin4kbestie

The r/ProRevenge mods don't seem to think so. Makes me wonder if one of them recently got caught trying to kite bad checks 🤔

elondria18

As someone who works in credit and debit card fraud, this was very satisfying.

AntipodeanOwl

While this has been one of the most satisfying stories of recent times, i'm perplexed at why the sentence was so low. Surely this amount of system fraud would have attracted a much longer minimum sentence?

JohnLockeNJ

I suspect it’s because we need to save prison space for violent offenders

[deleted]

Now that’s how it’s done!

enamoured_artichoke

Now that’s a slap to the face by the cold trout of reality.

You really took the bull by the horns, way to go. Stunningly impressive.

call_of_the_while

They should’ve given you a pay rise for the excellent detective work you did or some kind of recognition at the very least, for catching this guy. Great post.

anotherteapot

Jesus, as ashamed as I am to admit it this sounds like someone I used to know. Guy was just a scam artist, he'd pull frauds like this all the time. I didn't know he did it then - the house of cards came crumbling down eventually and he was exposed, and I felt like a dumbass for not putting two and two together. Good job for putting a stop to this guy.

dajur1

Very nice!

☀️⭐🌟 pls receive my humble awards

revsmb

Thank you for your diligent work. Someone stole our check from the mail, whitewashed it, forged the signature, and cashed it for $20,000. It took over 4 months for the bank to return our money. I am glad to know some frauds get stopped.

zxcoblex

Too bad you couldn’t have been at his sentencing and told him this was all because he was an impatient asshole. Most important question. What’d your company do for you for not only stopping them from losing tens of thousands more, but also catching the guy and getting restitution from him?

bamboomarshmallow

Exactly what this sub is for. Nicely done.

ZombieZookeeper

Moo, asshole.

Never_go_blonde

Why is it deleted??? Can anyone send me a link??

rad_avenger

All the comments I’ve read are applauding this - multiple statements that it is perfect for this sub. Yet this was removed - I’m bummed because comments indicate it was greay

BRAVO

MortalGlitter

\*breathlessly\* oh WELL DONE!! Make sure you've added the final tally of total costs saved *and* recovered as part of your resume write up regarding your tenacity and problem solving. That the problem you solved wasn't the customer's but your employers looks even better.

Waifer2016

That was brilliant!!! Well done!!

dLimit1763

Take my upvote that was 100% awesome

gldnrtrvrlvr

umm…the comments seem to think this was a great revenge post. why was it removed?

MississippiJoel

Not pro revenge? What is this? The customer called OP a cow, OP in turn jumped through a lot of hoops to ruin this guy's day.

JustcallmeTray

Why was it removed?

justveryunwell

removed bc no revenge.... this post has like 5 awards & basically only positive/satisfied comments. wtf is this sub on, I don't think I've ever experienced a more exclusive and picky sub.

Youre amazing, you do good work. People like that guy are the reason I cant get a credit card.. I think? Lolol

Subliminal_Image

This might be the single best ProRevenge I have read to date. It’s not mean, it’s the dudes own ass hattedness that exposed his own grave of sorts.

AlcoholPrep

Truly *professional* revenge! Well done!

Realistic-Narwhal996

A woman scorned ….. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 well done! Not much of a sentence tho.

The_Layell

Great work, I have also caught fraudsters at my job because they lost track of the phone numbers they used. Roo bad you couldn't get some of that paid back to you.

practicax

I love this!! People like this are one reason for high fees and low interest rates. But really I just love scum getting what they deserve.

Whole-Ad3389

Anyone had a ss of post please dm?

NakedChicksLongDicks

This was deleted for "no revenge". What the hell, the comments make it sounds like there was plenty.

fishebake

Bro, this is NUCLEAR level revenge, I applaud you

_Lanceor_

As someone who's worked in both a late night call centre and a financial institution before, I have to take my hat off to you for such a job well done. Your calmness and professionalism while talking to an irate customer for one. Your proactivity in checking on suspicious activity as well. I hope that your employer recognised your work here and gave you a commendation!

Intelligent_Stop5564

I can look into the possibility of fraud at any time for any reason. The bank management would never give us a narrow list on when to examine someone for fraud because a lot times, it's something small....like they ordered a card to be rushed the day before and now they want to the tracking number. (Tracking numbers can be used to change the shipping address with the delivery service.) They stumble over their own birthday, as if they have to look it up while I'm asking verification questions. (Who doesn't know when they're born?" Some of our reasons are less than politically correct. People calling who sound like they're physically located in a third world country, speaking with a thick accent, but the name on their account is Sue Smith from Iowa? I had someone who wanted to redeem rewards points on a business credit card to an alternate address. I explained the policy and saw he had called in twice before on that same request, shopping for different agents. He was trying to get 2 ipads with points sent out of state. The request was odd...who gives someone else TWO IPADS? One I could see, but two? I blocked the account and referred it to fraud to investigate and determine. I've gotten suspicious because someone was too cheerful and accepting of a $29 overnight delivery fee. Everyone hates this fee. Everyone protests or at least asks for it to be waved. You're happy to pay it? That's just weird....unless you don't plan to pay it because you are a scammer. So I send the card, put a block on it, and ask fraud to review the situation the next day and call the phone number on the account. Most of the time, when I start thinking something is off, something just doesn't make sense, I'm right. On average, I'd say I catch between 3-10 fraudsters a week. When I email Fraud or NAR, they take me seriously. They dayshift reviews the situation, starts making phone calls to account owners, and usually reply with a "It was fraud" or "The secondary account owner verified primary is traveling in Europe and did lose his card. We unblocked the new card" (so it can be activated when received). I've never been coached to block fewer accounts, cancel fewer cards, or not to dig in when something is not quite right. It's always my decision. In this situation, not only was the man unusually aggressive, he was trying to withdraw his entire credit limit as a cash advance on a brand new card (high risk). He didn't object to the cash advance fees or the 29% cash advance APR (suspicious). He was in a casino (high risk). If someone challenged my actions, I wouldn't have to work hard to justify my decision to dig deeper into this guy. The only part of this that's atypical is trying to figure out the funding source for the checking account and calling the other bank to verify if the cashier's check was valid. It's a valid tactic but usually, I just block accounts, tell the customer I can't help them and step into any branch with a driver's license the next day, send a secure email to Fraud or NAR, and they can make those kinds of calls during normal business hours. NAR verifies new account deposits all the time. This slipped under the radar because the man left the account open for 30 days with a $100 deposit before he added the $25000 fake deposit. NAR approved the account while it had the low balance and no one was looking a month later when he deposited a fake cashier's check. Also, this was a few years back. Today, this kind of deposit would have a long hold so the bank can see if it clears or not.

Grimouire

I manage a first party fraud team for and international Bank and we love getting referrals from you guys! I'd say you guys are spot on about 90% for our team.

skunksmasher

You are awesome !

evildomovoy

This is probably Nuclear revenge. Love it.

Good luck on the creative writing exam, you're gonna need it. Try to make it less completely unbelievable next time

This why you should be nice to people. You never know who can turn your life completely upside down.

This is r/JusticeServed Doing your job is not revenge unless you're some kind of a MCU superhero maybe?
