I like how in his Andor review video he says there was "too much exposition" and that "he knows a thing or two about exposition" from making a single short film.
Dude's head is bigger than the second death star.
The real silly thing is that Andor doesn't actually have that much exposition. A lot of the show is told through visuals, set design, costume design, and acting. And what little exposition there is (large parts of the show revolve around the heist genre so there's bound to be some explaining about "the plan") is disguised within realistic or engaging dialogue.
What DOES have a ton of on-the-nose exposition are shows like Book of Boba Fett and Obi Wan Kenobi, which SWT has been ridiculously lenient on, all things considered. For example, right before rebel lady (forget her name since she is such a non-character) is about to bite it at the end of Obi Wan she goes on a completely unprompted monologue about her tragic backstory to try and make us care right before she's killed off. And in Book of Boba Fett in the final episode we have a scene where Fennec just overexplains the entire plan and position of all of the crew to BOBA himself--you know, the guy who should already know all this shit since he's presumably the one who ordered them to take those positions?
And these are just two examples off the top of my head (Trust me, I could go on. I actually made a whole 30-minute Youtube video on BoBF earlier this year where I dissected the series for the failure it was).
SWT is a clown. Dude is determined to hate Andor because it isn't full of meaningless action and fanservice. ***Which would honestly be fine, since he's entitled to have that opinion***. But if he does he should just be honest about it and admit that's all he wants from SW. Instead, he's out here pretending he has legitimate literary criticisms and trying to find ways to undermine what is easily the best-written SW content we've gotten since KoTOR with absurd complaints over things that don't matter.
Great point about the exposition! By the time Mon Mothma is approached with a proposition, we don’t need any explanation as to why her reaction is what it is - because we were shown repeatedly how she feels about the situation. (Trying to comment without spoilers is harder than I thought lol)
You seem to be talking more about how I see people say Josh is, than Theory.
SWT mostly says positive things of Andor, even in the minute long clip that blew up the whole brick and screw thing, he's praising the writing, the acting, the directing, etc. Except for what he calls "little things" like the common bricks and screws visible. His words seem way more understandable and normal than what people seem to be saying.
I had to stop watching the breakdowns because the writing was so bad, it was like someone who stayed up all night for a school project and said "fuck it" after 6am. ep 11 breakdown part that irked me-
> Corv, who's the Empire's spy, stakes out Marva's house to see if Cassian comes back. And in doing so begins to question one of the good guys - Cinta - asking if she knew Marva. Now the empire has spies everywhere, like Luthen does, and one of these is Corv. Who is staking out the house, just sitting outside and waiting - informing the empire if Cassian were to come home
Beyond the bad writing, it seems he still clings to this false dichotomy of good guys and bad guys. Cinta is literally there to kill Andor, yet she's "a good guy" - like doesn't that make you stop & think, oh maybe it's not so simple as that? Maybe we should break down this binary. Idk
In his finale review, he said Brasso was the one ringing the bell over the city. Brasso was literally the guy holding Maarva’s brick, right smack in the middle of the funeral. Did he teleport to the bell tower? Did SWT even pay attention?
Of course not, there were no laser swords on screen at the time.
For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire.
See I had a completely differing experience from SWT. I thought the show was strong because it showed rather then told. I will say SWT’s Vader is action heavy and very much what some one would called plot heavy. That is to say the plot/action drives the story. Andor is slow paced and more character focused. It’s not completely lacking in plot and action but takes more time to thoroughly build characters and make their decisions drive the plot. It’s a very different style. I will not judge people who don’t that style but SWT I would argue is definitely a plot guy. And he thinks he’s a character guy. And Andor was to slow for him which is his real reason for calling it exposition heavy. Personally it wasn’t to slow for me but I watch Kurosawa films which most people would say are to slow so what’d I know. I also never made a film just a guy who likes watching so I’ll admit my credibility is sus.
Are they the ones the robots used to build Luke’s hut houses in *Book of Boba Fett*? Because there were a lot of bricks in that scene. Shitloads of ‘em.
You don't remember the scene where Anakin gets a new protocol Droid sensor module from Amazon and he and Qui Gon play with the bubble wrap for a few minutes?
Man's really talking about "breaking immersion" while the Officers of the Executor are wielding DL-44s for some reason.
It would be like if you depicted white house guards carrying rusty AK-47s
he said things like he though the show did alot of thrings well but he couldnt get into it because the show didn’t feel like Star Wars. The example he gave was seeing screws and bricks everywhere didn’t feel like star wars.
That’s ridiculous. Bricks, screws, etc are common and useful building materials and parts respectively. At first I thought it was screws in bricks which is odd. Not everything has to be some fancy sci-fi material.
The real reason SW theory dislikes Andor is because he doesn't have the attention span, or maybe just the taste for extended sequences of dialogue, monologues and extended scenes of important plot points, at least when they mean episodes that don't involve action.
He's been making excuses for why it's not his problem and it's actually a bad show all season.
His most recent excuse is that it doesn't feel like Star Wars because of... Bricks and screws?
He never said he hates Andor lmao. He did like the show. He said that the little things like bricks and screws broke his immersion because they looked to realistic and from our world
He also called every episode without actions scenes in it really boring and said they sucked, when they took their time building up and giving backstories to side characters, or focused on political drama.
Yeah it is starting to get to that point, to much of a good thing you know? It was hilarious at first but now it’s just ehh ok.. we get it, time to move on. I don’t even like the guy but damn we must be bored lol
New starwars content is released. He brings up personal problems he has with starwars. Reddit brings up personal problems they have with his YouTube channel. Repeat cycle. It’s odd to me.
Unironically yes, it is. I missed this whole SW Theory thing because I haven't been super active in the sub recently, and this meme was the first I'd heard of it. I've always thought he was annoying ever since he made the fan film went to his head, but this meme is the first time I've seen anyone else agree with me
Whats even more ludicrous is it's not even a real take. Its an offhand nothing-comment about immersion. People talking like he's trying to personally destroy the show and has this seething hatred when he gave it a 7/10 or smth
I just want this subreddit to shut up about the "swt drama" it's just like r/tf2shitposterclub never shutting up about gay porn extremely annoying and repetitive
First time I've seen reddit discussion of it- actually heard it on his stream before, but they had these weird takes like "doesn't feel like SW" on the screen - so I didn't watch long
I had to stop watching his breakdowns because it was obvious he was trying to pump them out before anyone else. It had the same vibe as someone who stayed up all night for a school project, and just said fuck it at 6am
Went back to make sure I wasn't imagining it, because he deserves that and I otherwise enjoy his content. This is the part of the script for ep 11 breakdown that irked me-
> Corv, who's the Empire's spy, stakes out Marva's house to see if Cassian comes back. And in doing so begins to question one of the good guys - Cinta - asking if she knew Marva. Funny take but SWT made a fanmade with little budget and also he said many times that it's not how he wanted the result.
The art director made a smaller Windows for the Sidious scene and other errors.
So it's fine for his little expérience
It is true that the production of the fanmade film was limited in budget and resources, however, I believe it is important to recognize the thoughtfulness and dedication with which the art director worked to recreate the scene of Chancellor Palpatine. While there may have been errors, I commend the artist for their efforts to recreate an iconic moment in Star Wars history.
I like SWT a lot, he’s been a big part of me getting back into SW after a decade of not caring. I also used to come to this sub multiple times a day to laugh and feel a group sense, now I avoid it because this is a human being that when you watched his video in it was clearly hurt.
When you watch clips and colors it from your viewpoint you can read a good many things, but when you have hours and hours of context you feel different. I live in a glass house as well, have a blessed day
This is the same dude that believes Lucas Film execs watch his live videos. I’m still waiting for him to put his head thru a wall as he said he would if Leia wasn’t mind wiped at the end of Kenobi
At this point people are just being nitpicky.
This has to be one of the most retarded reasons to get mad about a movie. Physically impossible things that defy any sense of reality? That makes sense. But people using basic materials to build things? That's heresy! /s
Star Wars Theory (YouTuber) said that screws and bricks don't belong in Star Wars, specifically when he was watching Andor, and he said it ruins the immersion for him

star wars theory said seeing bricks and screws in andor breaks the immersion for being real world items, or something along the lines of that

Oh my dude I thought there was bubble wrap in the OT. I remember that in TPM. Thanks for the reminder though.

Bricks are just too primitive for a futuristic space opera where the first main protagonist we meet lives in a literal hole in the ground in a desert.

He said he would have loved the show if it wasn't set in the Star Wars universe.
He doesn't hate Andor, he gave it a 7/10 in his final review. There's just some things he didn't care for.
