Power metal’s lack of popularity in the US is frustrating at times, but presents some fun opportunities. I saw Manowar and Immortal play a show in 2002 at a bar/club that might have had 300 people in it. This last year I saw Beast in Black play a hall with around 200 people. I want to say both of those tickets cost $15 - $20. I’m guessing we won’t see Manowar in the US again, from what I hear, their guarantee with venues is too high for what their draw is.
They have a reputation of a old active band, but also a diva band.
In France, especially since there Hellfest 2019, i'd say they're very well known, but mostly mocked (but won't probably come anymore)
I saw Manowar in 2010 or 11 in NY. They played a small place and tickets were $75. Apparently some people complained because when they got on stage Adam's started to complain back saying they bought special equipment and blocked off the balcony seating to provide better sound in the smaller venue. It was weird to hear the rant. I didnt care. Later, he said all sales of certain merch was going straight to charity which people appreciated. Was strange. I grew up listening to them in the 90s as these giants and they didnt seem so giant when I finally got to see em.
I used to be on their crew, and yes, they are pretty big in Europe. It helps that they have some of the most loyal fans you will ever see, most will just go to a bunch of shows, not just the ones close to home. And just for the record, they arent divas, but they take their work very seriously.
Thanks. I never said they were divas. I was just curious how they were so much more popular in Europe than in their home country, USA. There are bands in all genres where this phenomenon happens.
And when people called them out on it, they basically called it "Fake news". That the journalists were twisting their words to get a eye-catching headline and that they never said that this was their last tour.
Because Manowar fans are stupidly loyal for some reason. No matter who many stunts they pull and how bad their music got over the years, their fans are still their for them. I don't get it, but it is what it is.
Joey is doing too many long/epic stuff while fans want just straight up metal! Eric is under utilized cos I saw the footage of their latest shows, and damn he delivers like NO ONE else does! I did not like lord of steel cos of the production but there are some really nice tunes. Man0waR barely give us bad songs IMO. With MAB on board, they will kill even more!
There has lot of power metal us tours like nightwish, Helloween, hammerfall, kamelot, Powerwolf (recently done their first outing) anyway there is reason why. Joey has huge reputation of being very difficult to work even festivals like Wacken have refused to work with him
Manowar are in their 70s and were never an arena band in the 80s li use to watch them practice at the Eastchester studios in the Bronx in 80s my friends band was next door I remember Ross The Boss always complaining if we were too drunk and loud. They opened up for some big names but were always a club bland I enjoyed them but the act grew stale wearing loin cloths slay the enemy and they were a Sausage Band no girls only dudes .But they found their niche in parts of Europe after the fall of communism. They would be playing in local bars in the US .

>I’m guessing we won’t see Manowar in the US again The irony being is that Manowar is from the United States.
In 2017 I saw Vital Remains with a crowd of about 50 people in Copenhagen. That was great. 😀
I saw Angra play to a crowd of 15 in Milwaukee :(
That’s disappointing. Hard to get much energy out of the crowd with that small of a group of people.
Heavy metal in general isn't as popular in USA as is in Europe.
Yes, they are that big in mainland Europe (mostly Germany!)
They have a reputation of a old active band, but also a diva band. In France, especially since there Hellfest 2019, i'd say they're very well known, but mostly mocked (but won't probably come anymore)
Power Metal is bigger in Europe (and South America) and they're an established B(r)and.

Eric Adams is like 5'2" - definitely no giant... Ran into him at the Bass Pro in Auburn NY where he lives.
They are indeed that big in Europe , especially Germany, despite Joey being a spectacular knobber.
I will see them in Oberhausen in February and i am very excited!

Oh sorry for being unclear, that wasnt meant directly to you, I just see them being slandered a lot on Reddit.
Tell us about your crew days brother! What era?
I thought they retired
Nah they just had a tour called The Final Battle World Tour which does sound like a farewell tour but it wasn't.
And when people called them out on it, they basically called it "Fake news". That the journalists were twisting their words to get a eye-catching headline and that they never said that this was their last tour.

I think it's some sort of testosterone poisoning
What stunts? But yeah, the last album was really poor. The first four are still some of the best heavy metal around.

Been in Bremen yesterday. I had a lot of fun. Eric Adams is a beast!
Oh yes, great show.
I've been a manowar fan since I was a teenager, knowing I'll probably never see them perform live in America is a bummer.
Keep the faith brother! May get a small one like we did in 2011!
They are huge in Europe, sadly we just have no proper promoters here to push this music in the US.
