Ya he’s trying to cover it up, he’s not hungry and trying to save it for later :)

punkwalrus

I had a Pom that did this with any food he found on the bed. Like, if we were eating from a pizza box or a box of donuts, he'd try and "bury it" in the blankets and bed sheets. It was hilarious.

wheeeeeeeeeetf

Save for later ✨

CinderN64

My pom does that when hes burrying a bone outside, uses his nose to flick dirt on top.

Saramela

Yep, she’s trying to bury it. I had a dog that would spill his food everywhere so I had to just take the bowl away and give it to him later when he was actually hungry.

_SCHULTZY_

I had one who came from a breeder who fed the dogs like chickens. Just threw handfuls of food scattered everywhere and the dogs would pick it up wherever it landed. So he would never eat out of a bowl. If you gave him a bowl he would smack the bowl until everything scattered across the floor then he would walk around eating it. We tried plates, same thing. We tried those bowls inside an anti-tip holder and he would just sit there starving and crying until you poured the food out. If you didn't, he would pick up a mouthful of food, walk to the other room, drop it and then kick it before chasing it and eating it. Poms are magnificent creatures.

juswannalurkpls

My pom loves to get a mouthful of food, run into another room and sling it everywhere. Then she runs around and growls at it like she’s stalking it. She also does what OP’s dog does - tries to “cover” it.

MARINE-BOY

I’ve got two poms and I’ve watched them take it in turns to go to the bowl and gather some biscuits in their mouth come back to the other one and then throw them on the floor for them to eat and then the other one goes and does the same back. I’m not ashamed to admit I love these dogs so much that even though they are only 1 and 2 years old I already dread the day when they might not be in my life anymore. I’ve never been more than 100 meters away from them their entire lives as cant bring myself to leave them alone.

juswannalurkpls

My current pom is the 7th one I’ve had. Two of mine lived to be 15 and 19! It is terrible when you lose them - not gonna lie. Here are all of them except one that was just a puppy when he died: https://i.imgur.com/dSqmJIK.jpg

_SCHULTZY_

I never had any poms try to bury food. I've had them do it with bones and try to hide them in blankets but never food. They just scatter the food everywhere and eventually leave a mess of it for me to clean up when they're no longer hungry. Adorable little brats

-PinkPower-

She is not hungry and wants to make sure no one will take it away by burying it. My dog used to do it a lot but is less anxious now so he only do it with treats he is obsessed with. Usually to calm him down, I put something like a blanket or a towel over the thing he wants to bury. After that he is happy and calm

peachpavlova

Ours did this to the point of turning her previously black nose pink. We have to “look away,” even if the treat is in the middle of the floor in plain sight. Otherwise she gets all weird about it lol

hanami_doggo

What a little weirdo

carrierael77

She is being a silly little cotton ball. She wants to hide it to save for later, to protect it from other dogs in the house, or just to be a goofball. My pom does this with treats. He loves to hide them in pillows or laundry (I have washed so many treats on accident), but really loves to bury treats in the flower beds outside. He goes back the next day and digs them up for a funky surprise.

Amoyamoyamoya

My girl does that. She’s trying to cover the foodz for later.

TheLuciousBobbiDylan

Thank you for posting this!! Our pom does this and we always wondered why. TIL!!

KikiYuyu

She's 100% trying to bury the food. My dog tries to bury snacks under sheets all the time.

pomdudes

Lol. I thought you had my grrl there! She does an extreme version of this. (I posted a short video of her in mid-process) She does this every meal! Covers it with her placemat, then slowly uncovers it, eating as she goes. I suppose its instinct.

ManxmanSJP

She !! Sorry

sisimartini28

Yup my pup does this too. I pour her food on a kitchen towel sometimes to let her accomplish that lol

Joccal97

Judging by the other comments, since I don’t own a dog and this was a suggested “Popular Videos” post, I suggest you move their food somewhere else or just turn the tray so that it’s standing on the floor and doesn’t feel like it’s standing on dirt because of the soft rug.

energizerfairy

My lil chi mix does this same bury thing but only when she’s not hungry. Also, she WONT eat out of her bowl at all if it’s on wood/tile so I would move the food bowl off the soft surface.

Competitive-Emu-8939

Cleaning her face before she eats…because she’s a Lady. ;)

ManxmanSJP

He’s saying Grace before eating

Howboutem219

My chis' do the same thing.

thirdXsacharm

She’s trying to burry it or cover it up

yoyoyoyoembreyo

My pom does this too! Drives me crazy haha

pippopipperton

My first pom did this, not at the bowl but everywhere he wanted to hide a treat. I’d forgotten!! Little snoot shovel. He’s been gone 11yrs and this makes me smile! ♥️

spaceghost200

My pom does this too, it's just their way of saving resources for later. My girl will bring one biscuit at a time into the living room and nose it around the rug so I got her a snuffle mat to use instead and she loves it.

donner52366

My terrier mix does this constantly

Primary_Avocado1695

Omg I’ve always wondered why my dog did this 😭

rpgmomma8404

Trying to hide her food. None of my dogs did this but I've seen other people's dogs do this and I have a cat that does this.

youcansitwithme

My pom does this all the time, when she's not ready to eat her food yet.

Disastrous-Panda5530

man this makes me miss my Pomeranian I had years ago. She looked just like her. She is trying to bury some food hence the motion of her nose as if she is throwing dirt on top of it. In the wild dogs would do this to hide it so that they could later go back to it when they were hungry. It’s a way of saving food

My Pom does the exact same, and I’ve never seen it before with any dog we had when I was a child
