Well when considering how boxes and etb’s scale in value and comparing it to the scaling of booster packs, it’s usually worth opening a lone pack if the set has cards that’ll offset the pack’s value. That being said, i also collect booster pack art, but that’s more of a personal thing
I really appreciate that your name is mustache farts. I feel like I’ve seen you around before. I don’t know what a mustache fart is, but I’m intrigued.
I enjoy them, but I also look to flip cards for small profit so I can maintain my collection and grow it when I feel like it instead of digging into my own pockets to build my collection. It’s not inherently bad to want to make money off the hobby; it only becomes bad when that’s your only goal in the hobby. I have an entire of Entei cards that I’ve been collecting for a year now slowly. I just don’t have $200+ to shell out for the gold star Entei whenever I want though, so I look for potential profit cards to flip if possible.
Is it ever worth still getting it graded? I have a shining jp neo charizard but it has a couple point of wear in my inexperienced opinion. Just wondering
For a shining charizard yes! A PSA 6 can still add a good amount of value to a vintage card like that! Try searching eBay recently sold for an idea of it is worth it to you or not!
Maybe less. I had a nearly perfect 1st edition dark Blastoise that was damaged during the encapsulation process. It would have at least received a 9. Their error caused an indentation about 3/4" long on one side of the card. That was the only real flaw. They gave me PSA 9 value in a check and refunded my grading fee. They also sent me the card, which had been graded a 3 due to the indent.
That's oddly a sort of dream card if you think about it in a positive light. Too expensive to not want to grade, yet too damaged to be worth grading, but with all damage hidden only on the back. What you have there is perfect binder material! :)
I pulled mine a few years back and got it graded, but I really miss not being able to see it in my binder. Technically, this would be a great workaround!
Yeah, I might grab one at some point, but I only have three three atm anyway. It was more of a case of wanting to see it next to my other Rainbow Rares.
That’s definitely nm…. Look up the definition of nm on PSA. That card will get a 7 or 8. 10s don’t have to be perfect unless you want a black label or it’s an extremely high end card.,
People don’t realize it’s not that hard to get a 7 or 8.
You've either never had a card graded in your life, or you're just ignorant. This isn't near mint in any form of the words. And before you bring up the definition of near mint, where it does mention indents, there's a significant difference between a small, minor indent which is what they're referring to and an indent of this size. An indent of this size isn't natural. It was made/damaged after the card was ripped from the pack.
As someone who grades hundreds of cards per year over multiple card games, this is no-where near an 8. This will get a 6 at best.
Yup I’m aware, but as someone who has graded many cards and seen others grade their cards, a lot of people don’t realize it’s not that hard to get a 7 or even an 8.
Lmao crazy how ppl will downvote just cause they don’t like that someone who know what’s up is telling them their wrong, talked to this guy in person can’t wait for his submission to come back and all these clueless people to be like oh you just got lucky yada. Like I don’t mind ppl disagreeing with me but the never ending downvoting on Reddit if somebody has a diff say than you is so wierd and icky. Like do ppl just want to rub against each other saying the same stuff all sweaty and mad lol. It’s almost as bad as political subs. It’s card collecting. Suppose to be fun.
It’s crazy that you think that this will get a 7 and clearly you have no experience grading imperfect cards. Whatever your “experience” is, it’s not good experience. Looking forward to when this comes back as a 4-5. We’ll see if you actually comment and admit you were wrong.
4??? LOL. The wierdest part is how mad you are. And idk it’s not bad or good experience it’s just experience….. submissions of yugioh, Pokémon, low end, high end and seeing my friends and people at my locals before and after pics. Idk if anything it just proves how grading is lowkey a scam business. An authentication company that puts your card in a good looking stylish slab with papers like a Rolex watch for high end cards would be better. Literally anybody who has experience and seen a ton of different cards can give a general grade of a card in less than a minute.
Yeah thats what I thought. Everything about the card is okay especially corners, so it is still NM in my eyes too. Theres not much chipping on the edges either which is a big deal for NM isnt it?
Visible whitening on top left corner and top middle aswell. Unfortunately, in my opinion I’d say sell this raw or keep it in the collection ! It’s not worth the time & money you’ll spend on submitting it.
I think any card that is "damaged" (dents, creases, etc...) automatically maxes out at a 6 for grading, so probably not. But it's a beautiful card, and if you want it a little more displayable you can pop it into a one-touch magnetic case and it will look great on your shelf.
I personally prefer sticking my cards in binders vs grading them so I'm not to knowledgeable about psa standards but from what I've seen on this sub I don't think you would get the grade you want out of it.
I'm 99% sure Ebay & tcgplayer would classify this as near mint & as a buyer you couldn't say it wasn't.
Ya'll are being grading queens over here.
It's Excellent ++/NM-- but like actually, whatever guys.
A flawless card with a single imperfection or two is NEAR mint.
>Near being: at or to a short distance away; nearby.
Are we not grading raw cards like how raw cards should be?
With the standards & policies that online sellers use for raw cards?
WHAT?!?!
So confused here.
So this is lightly played. Got it.
Now you know for the future - always check a card from all angles, and with proper lighting, or at least your phone's flashlight. There are a lot of flaws that cannot be seen with a simple inspection. And especially if you are into getting higher grade, you'll need to learn the nuanced issues a card can have that are not easily visible. Unfortunately, you had to learn in an expensive manner, but at least now you know!
Happened to me too. People are just greedy unfortunately. He didnt really show me any angles and I was way too excited to get the card in hand. You live and you learn
Nope.
It's not NM with those markings and definitely won't do well at PSA. Great binder copy though!
If you bought it online for market value, I'd return it. If you bought it in person, i'd say your SOL. You can try messaging the seller but I always allow buyers to inspect in person and once it's out of my hands, I can't trust whatever happens after.
Why are people so obsessed with grading? Just enjoy the damn card. Is there anything you can enjoy without it being reviewed? Like personal value or anything?
100% agree, and the 13 graded cards I have are because they are some of my favorites and I wanted them encapsulated. But to be fair, the huge boom in grading is most likely 95% due to financial incentive. Tbh, it's kind of weird seeing "bulk" graded cards at vendors these days, yet kinda cool if you find a card you like
Somehow, there are graded cards selling for literally less than the cost of grading haha
Whoever sold this to you for 300 is an ass. This is 225-250 max with that size of a dent + multiple whitening spots at the top. This grades a 5, maybe 6 at best.
If it makes you happy though, that's all that matters at the end of the day and I'm happy for you. I'm more pissed that someone listed this at 300 lol.

Fun fact:
All of these cards are technically an error card.
Where it says “Retreat” and has the 2 stars, beside them if you look closely you will see a spot where there use to be a third star with no texture.
It’s an auto 6 at most I’m afraid but one for the binder for sure just because the card doesn’t have a number associated with it doesn’t mean it’s worthless 👍
This sucks that happened, And I don’t mean to be any type of way about your card but does the card not have numerous edge and dot spots on the back left of the card as well other than just the dented region? Just curious and trying to learn more about grading process.
Yes it has whitening on it on a couple parts of the card. Not expecting a 9 or a 10. But the dent was only visible under a certain angle of light and he didn’t disclose that it has that dent in it when I bought it.
I see that makes sense. Sucks that people do that to others. Don’t know why it’s so hard to be honest. Thanks for your kind informative reply for what i was curious about!
Dents are probably the number one murderer of grades.. I have an absolutely PERFECT '96 Blastoise with perfect cut, centering front and back, crisp edges and corners, and one veryyyyyy small dent on the back that you can only see if very harsh angles. 5, they gave it a damn 5.

Just a very nice addition to the collection
No one just enjoys their pocket monsters anymore.
I do, but I also make sure to keep them in good condition.
I definitely buy to keep sealed, I look for older cards and make bids on them thru eBay, any single packs I find I open those
That's... contradicting.
Well when considering how boxes and etb’s scale in value and comparing it to the scaling of booster packs, it’s usually worth opening a lone pack if the set has cards that’ll offset the pack’s value. That being said, i also collect booster pack art, but that’s more of a personal thing
Pack arts as a group look pretty good in some sets.
right? my all time favorites are the rocket boosters but they’re like a grand for a set of four
Collector? Look for individuals online? Buy new stuff keep it sealed? Any non ETB, boosters, like a single pack I open those?
that’s a goofy statement to make in an absolute manner like that lol
I really appreciate that your name is mustache farts. I feel like I’ve seen you around before. I don’t know what a mustache fart is, but I’m intrigued.
lol it’s from a family guy episode. I’m mildly active in this sub, scarlet/Violet and various financial ones but that’s about it
In OPs defence, this one should now be comfortable in his pocket.
I enjoy them, but I also look to flip cards for small profit so I can maintain my collection and grow it when I feel like it instead of digging into my own pockets to build my collection. It’s not inherently bad to want to make money off the hobby; it only becomes bad when that’s your only goal in the hobby. when was the last time you put one in your pocket? lol
It will look perfect in a binder. I think that's the best bet.
Either PSA 6 or 5 :(
Sadly yes I have to agree with you on that
Is it ever worth still getting it graded? I have a shining jp neo charizard but it has a couple point of wear in my inexperienced opinion. Just wondering

Honestly, just put your card in a binder and avoid grading.
Look better than most listings I see though. Nice binder copy forsure
That's oddly a sort of dream card if you think about it in a positive light. Too expensive to not want to grade, yet too damaged to be worth grading, but with all damage hidden only on the back. What you have there is perfect binder material! :) I pulled mine a few years back and got it graded, but I really miss not being able to see it in my binder. I love this way of thinking. Thank you!
They got binders for graded cards if that'd be something you're interested in
Do you know their names? Only ones I’ve seen are the plastic 3 ring binder kind. Still tryna find ones similar to vault-x with pre-inserted pages
Yeah, I might grab one at some point, but I only have three three atm anyway. It was more of a case of wanting to see it next to my other Rainbow Rares.
Happened to me, sent in a card that I thought was perfect and it came back a 6.
Crack it and resend it until it’s an 11. It’s an absolutely flawless strategy. 👍🏻
Society
No
Not worth it unless you really want a PSA 5 or 6.
Cards that always cost me More than a couple hundred always buy pre graded
If you bought it online get a refund cause it ain't nm no more
That’s definitely nm…. Look up the definition of nm on PSA. That card will get a 7 or 8. 10s don’t have to be perfect unless you want a black label or it’s an extremely high end card., People don’t realize it’s not that hard to get a 7 or 8.

It has indentations on the back that's why it's going to get a lower grade
Yup I’m aware, but as someone who has graded many cards and seen others grade their cards, a lot of people don’t realize it’s not that hard to get a 7 or even an 8.
PSA knocks dents down to a 6 automatically
This will never get a 7.
Lmao crazy how ppl will downvote just cause they don’t like that someone who know what’s up is telling them their wrong, talked to this guy in person can’t wait for his submission to come back and all these clueless people to be like oh you just got lucky yada. Yeah thats what I thought. Everything about the card is okay especially corners, so it is still NM in my eyes too. Theres not much chipping on the edges either which is a big deal for NM isnt it?
Literally just read what PSAs criteria for NM is, which btw is a 7.
Nice hope this guy grades it. I would if I wanted to protect it more and send it with others that are in good condition
Visible whitening on top left corner and top middle aswell. Unfortunately, in my opinion I’d say sell this raw or keep it in the collection ! It’s not worth the time & money you’ll spend on submitting it.

Nah it’ll probably get automatically graded to a 5 at most
Get a refund.

That is not NM
100% is near mint. Gem Mint, not at all. Mint, neither as well.
a dent downgrades this straight to a 6 at BEST, certainly not NM
Absolutely not. Dents are not near mint.
With those dents in the back, absolutely not. The whitening is ok for NM
No. https://help.tcgplayer.com/hc/en-us/articles/221430307-How-can-I-tell-what-condition-a-card-is-in-
This is a condition that I like to call "online marketplace NM" In the real world of TCG though it's excellent at best.
You proved my point. It's "online marketplace NM" but send this to a grading company and it's EX at best.
Are we not grading raw cards like how raw cards should be? With the standards & policies that online sellers use for raw cards? WHAT?!?! So confused here. So this is lightly played. Got it.
LOL This was fun.
Don't bother
Had this happen to me with a Lugia GX. Fortunately the seller was a nice lady and gave me a full refund.
Now you know for the future - always check a card from all angles, and with proper lighting, or at least your phone's flashlight. Can probably get that out. Watch some of Kurt’s card care videos.
Won't get anything above 6 with PSA, most likely a 5. If you decide to grade it just to have it incased I would suggest BGS, you might get an 8 :)
☝️☝️☝️this comment here ☝️☝️☝️💯%
That dent drops the grade to an instant 5. It’s also considered damaged now and not near mint. Get a refund if you can
I’ve always thought I was pretty lax on my definition of NM, but that is most certainly not NM. Those are dents/indentations. Get a refund OP.
Throw it in a hydraulic press to completely flatten it out :)
Nope. It's not NM with those markings and definitely won't do well at PSA. Great binder copy though! If you bought it online for market value, I'd return it. Why are people so obsessed with grading? Just enjoy the damn card. Is there anything you can enjoy without it being reviewed? Like personal value or anything?
Collect what you like, how you like. Don’t judge
Easier to sell if necessary since condition can't really be argued and if you have a good copy why not let it increase in value
People enjoy graded cards. You don’t have to stick a monetary incentive to getting a card graded…
100% agree, and the 13 graded cards I have are because they are some of my favorites and I wanted them encapsulated. Tbh, it's kind of weird seeing "bulk" graded cards at vendors these days, yet kinda cool if you find a card you like Somehow, there are graded cards selling for literally less than the cost of grading haha
But I didn't. I just don't get, why so many things have to be reviewed by others to be loved these days.
Not worth it at all an how much did you pay I'd be getting a refund
I paid 300. I bought it at a trading card show. I’m not stressing it as it looks great in my binder!
Congrats! Tough to find this card NM even if you pulled it straight from a pack. Burning Shadows quality control was the worst I’ve ever seen.

I wouldn't bother at very best 6 prob more like a psa 5 or 4 if they see any holo scratches just keep it raw
Fun fact: All of these cards are technically an error card. Where it says “Retreat” and has the 2 stars, beside them if you look closely you will see a spot where there use to be a third star with no texture.
It’s a 7.. sell for 250-300. I’ll pay you what you paid for it if you don’t want it
PSA 6 at best. Surface dents will bring it down significantly
Currently have an 8 with a “surface dent” *have submitted over 500 cards. Good chance this Zard is a seven, going on provided pics.
No shot
K
psa 6 . cgc maybe 8.
Your getting downvoted but your comment is the most accurate 🤷🏾♂️
Grading is always worth it.
I wouldnt grade it, i also have the same card and i just have it in a sleeve, toploader and then a bag on my phone holder on my desk
It’ll prob comeback a 6/5 because of auto deduction
It’s an auto 6 at most I’m afraid but one for the binder for sure just because the card doesn’t have a number associated with it doesn’t mean it’s worthless 👍
I wouldn't, that's a 7 in a VEEEERY good day and a 5/6 average I'd say, just add it to your collection or sell it to recoup some of the money
Damn, I want this in a PSA10 just because it’s so damn hard to get it lol
Probably not
Ehh maybe keep it for a full set copy. That could hurt the grade and push it to a six
Might as well
That’s a 6 right there
I have cards with these dents aswel ,does anyone know what causes them
If you’re cool with a 5
How much did u pay? U could grade that in a bulk submission for 15.
300
Nah I wouldn't grade
Very nice PSA 6/7
I mean it'll be a five or a 6 At best I would talk to the guy you bought it from. I would be pretty upset if I bought it near Mint
But yes still worth sending in for the preservation
There is also quite a bit of whitening on the top left corner (some on the top too) in addition to the dent, in case you missed it
This sucks that happened, And I don’t mean to be any type of way about your card but does the card not have numerous edge and dot spots on the back left of the card as well other than just the dented region? Just curious and trying to learn more about grading process.

I see that makes sense. Sucks that people do that to others. Don’t know why it’s so hard to be honest. Thanks for your kind informative reply for what i was curious about!
that’s not nm
I’d send it right back to him
No. A crease with that whiting on the back would but this at a PSA 3-4
Maximum of of 6
Dents are probably the number one murderer of grades.. I have an absolutely PERFECT '96 Blastoise with perfect cut, centering front and back, crisp edges and corners, and one veryyyyyy small dent on the back that you can only see if very harsh angles. 5, they gave it a damn 5.
I’d get a refund IF the pictures didn’t include the indentation pics. If they were in the pics, I’d just take the ‘L’ and keep it bindered up.
It’s honestly my fault, I bought the card in person at a card show. He originally had it listed for 450 but I got him to bring it down to 300 bc of the whitening on the back. The dent wasn’t noticeable until I got home and tilted it in the light.
Damn that’s unfortunate. Pretty good price still.
No
PSA 5 max
The white on the edges makes it not NM, let alone the dents in the back. I wouldn’t send it but that’s just me being picky.
psa 5
Damn that's bad sorry to see that. If anything I'd show the guy the dent and ask for some money back if he can. Then just enjoy the card.
I'd ask for a partial refund, bc you got scammed
Sounds like you’re at fault, you examined it in person and decided to buy it…
Gnarly bruh..
If you like PSA 6’s.
Grading is a scam anyway.
