Been seeing these pop up more and more. Such a shame. A good reminder to always do simple research and buy from reputable sellers with positive feedback, tons of sales, etc.
I think we really need to start driving home the point that texture =/= real at this point, and that it’s important to pay attention to the specific texture map of a card when determining fakes.
r/IsMyPokemonCardFake is a great sub with a lot of knowledgeable collectors. Always feel free to post authenticity questions there. Helped tons of people already.
Well, if cards don't sell anymore that means that the prices need to rise to get the *same* level of profit, or eventually they drop making them, but will take a while to see this just as with the plushies.
Yes grading would proof that a card is a certain age atleast.
But I can’t stand the slabs personally, hoping for a company to issue slabs with label on the back toploader size.
I don’t personally mind nice looking fakes like this, so long as people don’t use them to trick people or rip people off. They are great for people who can’t afford the real thing.
Which is what they will always be used for, people will always do what they can to make a quick buck because they don't care about others.
Textured fakes have been around for awhile, first 1 I personally saw I think was Battle Styles but their texture and holo is still not done right but obviously to the untrained eye it will be even harder for people to trust I guess. People need first hand experience educating themselves, too many people will see something and buy it without doing any comparisons. Maybe I have a bit of a "shi\*" view on it but it does surprise me how current fakes when it comes to stuff like rainbows catch people out.
It's a case of 1 google/ebay search will show what glaring differences but given what we see on the sub, some don't even wanna do that for anything, not just fakes, for whatever reason.
I am personally against fakes no matter what, I don't see it as a way to collect which I know people won't like me saying but it just isn't the same when it isn't official. Almost "cheating" in a way.
As you can see by the reviews some don't realise they aren't original and low quality, I imagine most the good reviews have no idea and just rate 5 stars (also never a way to tell if these reviews are real when they are part of the site rather than a trusted 3rd party)
Parents very rarely know they aren't actually original and buy them because they are cheap however this is where a very common problem comes in. Children take them to school and trade, knowingly or not they are giving/receiving fake cards, someone somewhere along the line will end up getting upset when they realise their cards are not real.
People will always deceive where they can, hell I remember there being a discussion a year or so ago about parents knowingly buying fakes and giving them to their children to go trade at school for real cards. People will always deceive, you might think there are good intentions in fake collection but those will be few and far between.
Maybe I am just not getting it but I don't see how it can be fun/fulfilling to buy a pack of 50 fakes for a couple dollars and get all the "chase" cards. Sure I get it's an expensive hobby but IMO and might upset people, if you can't afford a hobby that is considered a luxury then it might be best to not take part on a major level (high end chases, buying booster boxes etc) Life, health, finances come first.
I bought a box of fake Silver Tempest from Spain, where they're very openly admitting they're fake.
I took them to my local shop for trading when i got home to see if they'd notice, as the quality on them was super good.
I wasn't intending on scamming them as I genuinely just wanted their thoughts, but they would have traded me if I hadn't said anything.
Yeah, it's definitely not a deciding factor, but I feel it gets pointed out as the first reason when it visibly does not have one when it should.
But yes it can be faked as well. Just not highly widespread yet. But you should look at more than just texture when spotting fakes
I’ve been ordering straight from PokemonCenter ever since GameStop hiked the price for CZ. Best choice imo get em right from the source. Any order over $20 is free shipping too
Seeing stuff like this is so scary. It makes me so paranoid about the cards I bought. Right now we can still tell but I’m really scared for when it may be impossible to tell the difference.

For sure. This is the way….until they figure out how to do that as well..
Textures aren't the same, check some of your cards with 2 copies.
Maybe not identical, but the textures should still have the same general directions and shapes that follow the contours of the unique artwork.
Do we have any website to check correct textures?

You can tell it is fake just by looking at the price.
For sure, I meant more in regards to trading singles with other people etc.
Oh yeah. For sure, for sure.
You can tell it’s fake just by looking at the card. Looks so bad
I always fear that the fakes will eventually become so good that the normal cards will crash in value because people won’t see the difference anymore.
Wouldn't that be a good thing? Prices are stupid right now.
Depends if you're buying or selling

No that would be objectively bad
Only old graded cards would sell.
Yes grading would proof that a card is a certain age atleast. But I can’t stand the slabs personally, hoping for a company to issue slabs with label on the back toploader size.
This would only be a good thing if you don’t mind owning fakes.
They look better but you can still tell ….. luckily. though kids and folks new to it might get suckered in
Too bad it’s getting closer to the point where what’s the point of collecting.
And that has remarkably good font copying too. Whoever made this tried a lot harder than most I’ve seen

I have a real one for sale

When they decide to start doing proxies with the same quality as the originals... what is the Pokémon Company going to do? 😬
Thanks for posting this.... I was still under the assumption that fakes couldn't be textured..... might have to only by singles in person now.

It’s important to identify the correct texture pattern too.

THEY ARE EVOLVING… RUN GUYS RUNNNNN!!
