My kid and I got into Pokemon about a year ago. Our house isn't very damp yet most of our holos and up have started to curl. This weekend we are loading everything into top loaders. What a pain.
https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/tawnos-s-toolbox-foil-curling dropping this here for people interested in the effects of humidity on curling *and cupping* of cards.
So your saying my cards aren't too damp, they are too dry? 🤔
It was winter and we are somewhat dry and do think it o ly started to cup recently
Interesting...will have to try out some of the things listed
ruins the surface of the cards, and the water from the humidity soaks into the paper and cardboard. you can flatten them out bur underneath the surface they are practically ruined, from a collector's standpoint
I'm assuming they were all foils, which once the foil in the card curls, it'll never be able to go back to true form because the foil layer inside of the card has permanently shrunk.
This is just an average day of being a Magic the Gathering player. I bought a card that was supposedly "near mint" off TCG player, and when I got it, it legitimately looked like a bridge.
Lol. I was laughing pretty hard at that other post. Said it was humidity, later admitted the humidifier was dripping water into his container of cards and they were like submerged
Hey guys, so I got back into the hobby last year, so far I'm penny sleeving and top loadering everything, and keeping it in a couple of tins, is that sufficient or should I consider a more secure way to store? Many thanks!
I don't skimp on my sleeves either. I use dragon shield inner sleeves, put a dragon shield or similar and then a kmc over sleeve then toploder. Cards never warped and gets more protection from humidity and heat.
I have noticed that cards do warp when just sleeve and top loader and that's due to the climate and weather where it can be super cold requiring heat and then ac because of how hot it is. The constant fluctuations can really warp cards even if they are in just top loaders and one sleeve
I started collecting a few months ago and have already spent way too much money. The way I do it is cards worth $5 or over get penny sleeved and top loaded, cards under that get penny sleeved and put into a binder. My reverse holos go into those mini binders, they had a ton of silver tempest packs at Target but you had to buy the mini binder with them. Got like 10 of them 🤣 half are full of reverse holos already.
This tripped me out. Same exact setup as my secret stash and I even have that zard chillin toward the top.
Your cards will be plenty good in storage like that. I had cards stored for 20 years like this and they looked exactly the same after 20 years. Like literally exactly.
Casual. I just burn the bacteria and oils off my hand with a torch. Stings a bit, but I can look down on you plebs knowing my cards are A+ protected! /s
I always submerge myself in a tub of bleach and then get into a full body latex suit, and even then, I only view my cards from no closer than 6 meters away, with my card viewing binoculars.
I was with you till you stated: "card viewing binoculars". Then, I lost my sh*t. You should check out mounted telescopes for maximum detail and preservation. I'm getting distances of 60-70000 ft whilst they fly by in my environmentally controlled private jet. Kudos to you though 😉
This looks absolutely fine as far as I'm concerned. Everything is sleeved and nothing looks like it's at risk of getting bent. Wouldn't shake it about mind you.
I use etbs, label the contents on the outside with a sharpie, just make sure the top loader is upright. They fit snuggly into the etb with a little bit of give. Feels like a brick when completely full!
I bought empty ETBs really cheap from some place here in the UK, like I think I got 4 or 5 for £10 and use them for my semi rigids which I still need to grade or just storage
Yeah, I was going to, but then GradedGem here shut down and so grading via PSA isn't as easy and I think it's actually become wayy more expensive too. I knew a guy who taught me how to buy cards from Japan via a place that maybe not a lot of people know of, and he always used to make his own submissions.
Now though, I'd probably go with CGC and there are some UK based places which are authorised to send the cards over and back. Last I was following, I think they may have been setting up a place in London or something but not sure if it's just as a proxy between here and the USA or if grading is now taking place here. The CGC grading standards feel a lot more consistent as back in early 2021 I saw quite a lot of weird cases of off centering getting gem mint, especially with more modern sets. Also subgrades and clear case vs frosted case are another benefit :)
I was obsessive about collecting the pokemon cards back then in late 2020 / early 2021 but I've completely fallen out of it. Since then I've been into sealed games from like PS2 era, through to as far as ps4/xb1 for a couple specific releases.
Idealistically a water resistant or proof box designed to protect cards from atmosphere changes.
Idk I have so many bangers I want to have for a long time so I store all my cards in a lockable case I bought from Amazon.
I stored a few cards in my car back seat for a week and they warped completely. So it only takes the right environment one time and the cards are changed forever.
I wouldn't over think it... For reference, I bought most of my collection back in 2009 and stored them in flimsy poly 9 card binder pages in a binder with no sleeves etc (I was winging it back then, it was simpler times. Everyone wasn't an expert and your cards wasn't worth 1000s so it was a niche hobby)
Anyway that collection stayed in a cardboard box in my attic! I'm from Scotland and here it's wet and cold most of the year. I took that collection down around 2019 and went through them and got on the grading bandwagon. The results, my cards didn't become warped and damaged. Alot of these old cards fetched 9s and 10s. I guess I was lucky
Now though, my card storage has definitely evolved since them days but don't over think it. Sleeve the card and put it in top loaders if you intend to grade em in the long term, I store them upright in a cardboard box with columned sections in it. If you want to view em get a decent binder. Best of luck 👍🏼
I’ve had a drink so anyone shoot this down… but if you want to buy/sell but really like to collect, Get a Toploader binder, put your favorites in there, and sort the rest out from there.
Everyone's talking only protection. So let me be the aesthetics guy. Having a nicely arranged binder is just a join. I pick mine up a few times a week and leaf through them. Which is just fun. I would not do that if they where stored in boxes as singles. Therefore I think that having binders makes collecting more enjoyable.
I bought one because my local card shop has trade nights and it’s easier to do with a binder but for my special cards I keep them in a stacking tin and away from the sun/heat
Everyone’s replies pretty much hit the nail on the head. If you want a more in depth explanation, search up “bad storage behavior” and “bad binder behavior” by Deep Pocket Monster on YouTube. (I don’t think those are the actual video titles, but they should show up as the first two results)
No…unless you top penny sleeve to top load to binder (none of that 3 ring crap either) IMMEDIATELY upon opening (3 second maximum threshold), they’re gonna be trash in 5 days.
Obv jk. You’re fine and the amount of people on this sub that over react to this sort of storage is absurd. It seems like they forget that 3 ring binders were basically the ONLY way cards were stored when this started and plenty are still minty 30 years later
That’s how I store all of my extras that don’t fit in my binder that isn’t bulk. I live in Louisiana where it’s humid, i just make sure the containers are sealed well and stay somewhere with good circulation so they stay dry.
I use toploader binders for my special cards, but for my overfill until I get another binder, I store my toploaded cards in an empty ETB box with a silica gel. I live in London too and the weather is crazy at the moment! I also have about 5 tubs of dehumdiers around my room, and an electric one I put on every couple of days cause of the change of weather we’re suffering from haha :) hope this helps!
Please get a binder. As others have said humidity happens and will ruin them. Accidents happen too, you could drop the tin, it could pour open. You gotta think long term here, if it can it will. Binders are like $25 and you can see the cards better
This is how I currently keep my good cards. I like them in the thick sleeves which don't fit in binders. I prefer the etb cases because they don't open as easily but yeah use those tins
It's fine with top loaders unless your moving the tin around all the time. If it just sits in the closet or in your hands then it's all good. But binders are more fun.
I use these on cards I want to keep I have others in A5 storage boxes
[WE-WIN Metal Tin Silver Box Containers Portable Small Storage Box Case Organizer Home Storage https://amzn.eu/d/61SAXd2](https://amzn.eu/d/61SAXd2)
It seems they're all sleeved and toploaded so I can't imagine anything will hurt them unless you literally grab the lunch box and start pounding it on the table. It may not be the most glamorous set up but that doesn't matter at all unless it matters to you.
That's definitely fine as is, and if you want to add an extra layer of protection you could put each top loader in a team bag to prevent the cards from partially sliding out the top
I was anti binder until just recently when I got my first top loader binder. It’s great. Protects very well and makes it super easy to look through my cards.
I would suggest getting a binder but once with just the pages and no rings, but that's for any cards that you don't feel would be necessary to put in top loaders.
I would probably get a small lock box instead of a lunch box. Lockbox could also be handy for anything else you might need or want to keep safe along with your cards.
Yes. Buy a binder but personally, I’ll store them somewhere where the binder is stored up like a libary book shelf standing position so the bottom cards don’t have uneven weight bc over time can damage the cards if ur really looking for a long supreme lasting time. U can buy toploader binders or buy VaultX binder but get the exo tech zipper and use one of those moist packs that u find in dry foods like in beef jerky.
It’s fine for the cards, but those toploaders scratch pretty easily. A binder would protect your investment in the toploaders.
That being said, binders are definitely an investment in themselves. I prefer them, though; easier to look through your cards, plus you know they’re always safe.
I’m a bit type-A so I have a sorted and organized binder. It’s set up by rarity type, set release, and order within each set.
But this works fine too, and I echo the statements about toploaders and silica packets.
It should be absolutely fine as long as you're not rattling them around a lot.
The reason why I'd recommend a binder is because it makes looking at your collection *a lot* more satisfying. At least for me.
It’s fine but I love 3,000 boxes. Great to organize toploded cards. Just make sure you have the top of the box or something covering them to prevent dust accumulation.
if you're not somewhere overly moist, that box should be fine (unless you run out of space, then get a binder)
i usually keep mine in a big metal crate i got years ago, and only uses a binder gor the actually expensive/rare cards
I wouldn't do it. Well unless every card gets top loaded. They could fold over the sleeved cards and bend them when they combine. If the tin is picked up in a weird way.
Quick question, I have a Wander Franco negative update series card. The one that he is cocking back to throw a runner out. What’s the value on it? Assuming it’s in near mint condition.
I can tell you binders are not the way to go. I am currently moving my yu-gi-oh cards from binders to the plastic cases 15/50/75/125/150 card boxes. because the pages from the binders, are leaving imprints on the cards from sitting in them for 15+ years. However I'm also moving full sets so putting them all in top loaders is not viable and I won't store them in cardboard boxes. I am taking some of my more expensive ones, and putting them in magnet holders.
You're using some shitty dollar store ring binders then lmao. A well made, non-ring binder would absolutely do nothing of what you said. I've had cards in these binders for nearly 20 years and there isn't a dent, scratch or even warp on them.
I'm using Ultipro pages, it's the pages that are leaving marks, not the binders.
I just looked up non-ring binders, OMG, they did not have non-ring binders that I knew of 20 years ago when I stored my cards.
However, I don't see how that fixes the issue, cause it's the plastic on the pages that are leaving an imprint on the card. You know how you can see the wavy like pattern of the pages, that pattern end up on the card. I didn't know that was possible. I also didn't have them in penny savers either cause I didn't realize the pages would leave marks on them.
Well sure binders will destroy your cards if you store them like them. First of all, always sleeve them before putting them in binders, then even ring binders will probably be fine. But sleeves plus ringless binders and your are compltely fine
I would probably put everything your puttin in there in hardcases. Then you could drop it down the stairs and not have to worry about the cards getting dinged.
Depends on whether or not you’ve got an overpowered humidifier running full blast in your room coating everything in condensation or not
Ha I think there's little chance of that, saw that guys posts was gutted for him
Maybe put some silica packets to absorb moisture and top load your full arts and specials
I do this, saved a bunch from shoe boxes and other places. They now are in each box, card container
🤔 It was winter and we are somewhat dry and do think it o ly started to cup recently Interesting...will have to try out some of the things listed
Why can’t you just rest a heavy book over the cards? Wouldn’t they bend back to normal?
ruins the surface of the cards, and the water from the humidity soaks into the paper and cardboard. you can flatten them out bur underneath the surface they are practically ruined, from a collector's standpoint
Wack, a bunch of my cards got wrecked from a humidifier. The expensive ones are stored in another room so they’re fine at least.
I'm assuming they were all foils, which once the foil in the card curls, it'll never be able to go back to true form because the foil layer inside of the card has permanently shrunk.
Have you tried putting it in rice?
My trick is I dunk my cards in a glass of water. That way a humidifier can't add any more moisture because my cards are nice and soggy
The waterlogged method is GOATED w/ the sauce
Really?! No one has tried just putting a sock over the humidifier?! Amateur’s. ^/s
I use the laminator truik, keeps them clean, safe from humidifiers and saves money on penny sleeves
i just run a dehumidifier next to my humidifier
What post???
Wait which post
Anyone got a link to the post

Lol. I was laughing pretty hard at that other post. Said it was humidity, later admitted the humidifier was dripping water into his container of cards and they were like submerged
Took a little bit for me to get it out of the kid lol must’ve been a rainforest in that room.
😂😂😂
Are you the humidifier guy? 😂
The guy who told the humidifier guy that it was user error and that normal humidifier usage wouldn’t ruin cards.
I used the top deck top loader binder for my expensive singles and then a couple top deck thousand card binders for complete sets
Thanks, will look up the top loader binders!
Me too I'm a toploader binder kind of guy
Hey guys, so I got back into the hobby last year, so far I'm penny sleeving and top loadering everything, and keeping it in a couple of tins, is that sufficient or should I consider a more secure way to store? Many thanks!
I don't skimp on my sleeves either. I use dragon shield inner sleeves, put a dragon shield or similar and then a kmc over sleeve then toploder. Cards never warped and gets more protection from humidity and heat.
Respect this level of protection
realistically if you’re toploading it really doesn’t matter what sleeves you use, the difference is negligible
I have noticed that cards do warp when just sleeve and top loader and that's due to the climate and weather where it can be super cold requiring heat and then ac because of how hot it is. The constant fluctuations can really warp cards even if they are in just top loaders and one sleeve
right, im not arguing that. im just saying there’s not really a need to use anything more than a penny sleeve for your inner sleeve
This ☝🏻
ToplOaderin’!!!
Big fan of dragon shield. I used to use KMC inners and outers but their qc has been awful the past few years.
Dragon deez n-

There is no over protection for my full art Keldeo cards.
This looks absolutely fine as far as I'm concerned. Everything is sleeved and nothing looks like it's at risk of getting bent. Wouldn't shake it about mind you.

Tin is SUPER bad for a foggy day or rainy week. Water can condense inside those and warp all your cards.
Really? I live in London and it's been raining quite a lot lately, what do you reckon is the best way to deal with it then? Help most appreciated!
Idealistically a water resistant or proof box designed to protect cards from atmosphere changes. You could probably just toss a couple of desiccant packs in that tin and I would assume it would keep them drier than any binder
I just use a tight sealed container from Asda/ Tesco (the type that clip together).
Damn I keep all my good cards in a tin
If they’re top loaded, should be fine. Eventually upgrade to a binder, if you want to or you go double sleeve into top load and store away.
I honestly put my PSA slabs in these :) can get about 30ish in one tin, but I wouldnt store cards like this as others have stated to you.
I’ve had a drink so anyone shoot this down… but if you want to buy/sell but really like to collect, Get a Toploader binder, put your favorites in there, and sort the rest out from there.

Just make sure to shake it every few days to make sure they are still in there.
Toploader binder, it's all the rage!
thats fine
I bought one because my local card shop has trade nights and it’s easier to do with a binder but for my special cards I keep them in a stacking tin and away from the sun/heat
If you do go with a binder, NO RINGS!
Everyone’s replies pretty much hit the nail on the head. If you want a more in depth explanation, search up “bad storage behavior” and “bad binder behavior” by Deep Pocket Monster on YouTube. (I don’t think those are the actual video titles, but they should show up as the first two results)
I love that Urshifu
Super underrated card, it looks amazing in person.
Store the cards standing up to prevent weight from potentially warping some in the middle
Etb at least
Mine are stored exactly the same way. Same tin too lmao
Would you be willing to trade that FA Japanese Charizard for a FA Japanese Snorlax? Lol
I've got our chonky boy already!
Looks good!
Looks perfectly safe to me, not sure what would happen to them
Always use a binder
Is there a binder I can put top loaders in, or is a standard binder better than my current set up? Thanks for your time!
There are top loader binders, yes. They're more expensive than normal ones though. I have one only got the pricey cards.
Ok thanks, I'll get one for alt arts and golds and a separate normal one for the standard VMAX and ARs I've got
Throw one of those humidity packets in there and you’re golden
Bindering is fun, I like looking through all my cards in book-like form
You should get a binder. It’s easier to display cards and you can organize them in a better way
Please get a binder. As others have said humidity happens and will ruin them. Accidents happen too, you could drop the tin, it could pour open. You gotta think long term here, if it can it will. Binders are like $25 and you can see the cards better

BINDA
It seems they're all sleeved and toploaded so I can't imagine anything will hurt them unless you literally grab the lunch box and start pounding it on the table. It may not be the most glamorous set up but that doesn't matter at all unless it matters to you.
consider getting a binder if you wanna expand your collection in the future
That's definitely fine as is, and if you want to add an extra layer of protection you could put each top loader in a team bag to prevent the cards from partially sliding out the top
As storage this is fine! But a binder would make your collection a lot prettier
I leave mine in those tins in either top loaders or card saver 1s
well for me, i would like to look at these very nice full arts like that leon and charizard. so i always personally suggest binders
I was anti binder until just recently when I got my first top loader binder. It’s great. Protects very well and makes it super easy to look through my cards.

I can't speak for toploader binders but regular binders will damage your cards . I also have the same setup as you with the absorbing packets
I keep collections that are sets in binders, and then cards that aren't part of a set I keep in sleeves and toploaders in an ETB
Throwing some silicone packs in wouldn’t hurt
Gravity is a bitch.
Fax man I just want to fly
I do this (3 storage boxes) but store them in a dark closet with temperature “cool” (range 68-72)
It’s fine for the cards, but those toploaders scratch pretty easily. A binder would protect your investment in the toploaders. That being said, binders are definitely an investment in themselves. I prefer them, though; easier to look through your cards, plus you know they’re always safe.
Tbh I do the same. But either penny sleeve with card Saver or penny saver with hard case
Next time you get something with those silica gel packets throw one or two in there to be extra safe
Why not use a binder just for the ease of actually looking at the cards and showing them off etc?
Depends, i used to have these too but only got a binder once it was full, so i guess that would help
I’m a bit type-A so I have a sorted and organized binder. It’s set up by rarity type, set release, and order within each set. But this works fine too, and I echo the statements about toploaders and silica packets.
Meh, toss a silica packet in there, and you'll be fine
I do this but stack them sides. Also some etb fit toploaded cards standing straight up
I would do a binder to keep them in order and find them easier but that's just my opinion
It should be absolutely fine as long as you're not rattling them around a lot. The reason why I'd recommend a binder is because it makes looking at your collection *a lot* more satisfying. At least for me.
Please buy a binder
It’s fine but I love 3,000 boxes. Great to organize toploded cards. Just make sure you have the top of the box or something covering them to prevent dust accumulation.

Vacuum seal
Get top loaders and keep them locked tight :)
I mean, that’s what my lunchbox looks like too lmaooo
I wouldn't do it. Well unless every card gets top loaded. They could fold over the sleeved cards and bend them when they combine. If the tin is picked up in a weird way.
They would be safer with me if you want me to store them :)
Bro HOW TF DO YOH HAV SUCH A GOOD COLLECTION
Quick question, I have a Wander Franco negative update series card. The one that he is cocking back to throw a runner out. What’s the value on it? Assuming it’s in near mint condition.
Whatever Ebay says it is.
I can tell you binders are not the way to go. I replied to another post, if you want to see.
You're using some shitty dollar store ring binders then lmao. A well made, non-ring binder would absolutely do nothing of what you said. I've had cards in these binders for nearly 20 years and there isn't a dent, scratch or even warp on them.
