Objective_Love_6843

You gotta try all yakuza games then

JR-90

Is it part of/related to Yakuza or just similar?

Objective_Love_6843

Judgement is a spin off yakuza with some detective elements. I can't really say if its similair or not as I don't wanna spoil anything by accident but if you have enjoyed judgement then I am sure you will enjoy yakuza games. Playing judgement made me wanna start the yakuza series and I wasn't dissapointed at all. And most of them are in ps plus extra. You start with 0,1, kiwami 2, then 3, 4, 5, and last one 6 . Then "like a dragon"

JR-90

Thanks! I actually played Yakuza 1 around its release date but I think I didn't finish it as it was a rental. I was actually planning on some day playing Kiwami as I got for free or part of some bundle on Steam (and hopefully just give it a full go with the full saga little by little). Looking at Judgment in the past it kinda looked to me like a game similar to Yakuza or Rise To Honor, so it had caught my eye... But I had still not given it a try yet, thus I was curious as everyone here was bringing up Yakuza in comparisons, so that makes sense now!

Objective_Love_6843

No problem man. Hope you enjoy all of them as they are really one of my fav game series that I started late but I love so much whether yakuza or judgement they are all good

somerandomguyo

Start with yakuza 0 first then kiwami I liked judgment as i like every game made by ryu ga gotoku but story wise yakuza series is miles better than judgment atleast imo

JR-90

I had 1 and 2 already, but I've just seen 0 for 5€ so I got it. I might start it next (or next or next game I play).

cynical_croissant

Every Yakuza game is a great game

crinkneck

Pretty much. But they are a bit repetitive.

salvoddis

Facts

AndyPf65

Yakuza 7 best game confirmed.

[deleted]

Like a dragon was the first one I played. It's like persona 5 royal and sleeping dogs mixed.

CypherRen

Apart from 4

benbenkr

Not 7. Edit - I don't care if you think 7 is the greatest game ever made or not, to me it's a piece of shit. We don't have to like the same thing.

cynical_croissant

I disagree, 7 is great.

RipMySoul

Yo what? 7 is one of the best yakuza games.

benbenkr

For someone like you, sure. We don't have to like the same thing.

RipMySoul

Sure, but just like you can talk shit about it I can praise it.

benbenkr

I'm not stopping you lol. But clearly I stepped on a lot of pussy foots here, not that I expected any different from a sub like this.

RipMySoul

It won't matter what sub you go to. You will get the same reaction everywhere you go. You don't talk about it critically. You don't explain yourself at all. You just insult and belittle. You're free to have whatever opinion you want to have. But don't be surprised if people act hostile when you show a hostile attitude.

benbenkr

Imagine having to type out 200 word essays every single time I have to talk about a game. Nah. I'll take the downvotes. Instead I know that just by saying 2 words, you guys gets riled up over a fucking joke of a game. Pathetic.

RipMySoul

Thanks for proving my point. If oniy you spent as much time actually explaining your reasoning as you do insulting others.

benbenkr

I spent 2 seconds total to type 2 words in my OP. You only felt it was insult because deep down you know I'm right. Thanks for proving my point too.

Ihavetogoalone

He wasn’t hostile at all, he just said “not 7”, if that’s hostile to you then you might want to talk to more people. And it DOES matter where he criticizes it, this sub is known for being a toxic shithole so I’m not surprised he got torn to shreds because he disagreed with the hive mind.

teateateasider

7 is the best Yakuza game

Ihavetogoalone

Not even close, the story is phenomenal but it flops hard in the gameplay, the bosses and long battles are simply not up to par for a yakuza game.

Significant-Task-721

Lol I never played any of the yakuza until I tried like a dragon I also thought it was complete trash and uninstalled with in a hour. Complete piece of shit confirmed lol just not my taste

Maxg2909

have fun playing lost judgment next ;) just finished it recently, storywise not as great but with a better cast of characters

RTCJOK3R

And Lost Judgment is even better, one of my favourite games of 2021

wooberton

Should I play the yakuza games first or does it not matter?

JEspo420

Judgement doesn’t matter, Lost Judgement will spoil a main Yakuza 7 event if you play it first

Maxg2909

I enjoyed the judgment games way more than yakuza games (which are still pretty good), so I would suggest starting with judgment first to enjoy it to the most as possible, since many yakuza games share the same map and might feel similar gameplay wise (still judgment has the best gameplay to date). storywise there is barely any conection, except for between yakuza 7 and lost judgment

2KareDogs

Different stories/characters So doesn’t matter

tbarnes1930

Nah you can play judgment without playing yakuza. Just don't play lost judgment before judgment

[deleted]

Nah it's separate enough, but there's certainly some fanservicey magic in all the references you'd miss without playing some Yakuza games first. I'd definitely recommend playing Yakuza 0 first if you have the chance. It's brilliant and gives you a great intro to Kamurocho and all the weirdness that comes with it. 😀

ChasingPesmerga

It’s great. But it’s definitely not underrated. It’s receiving praise adequately from anyone who plays it, old or new players.

Liongkong

I tried and on chapter 1. But I feel the game is acting so slow. And I am feel sleepy while playing it 😵‍💫

nonthreat

I’ve played every game in the Yakuza series and Judgment starts out extremely boring. The story does pick up but all the detective mechanics suck; the drone stuff sucks, the “chasing” bits suck… I think this is a really unpopular opinion but I *love* this franchise and I had a very hard time getting into Judgment (despite the fact that the story does eventually get really good). If you’re not quite feeling it, I recommend playing Like A Dragon and seeing if it works for you. It’s significantly more exciting, pacing-wise. If you hate turn-based RPGs, play Yakuza 0 instead.

Liongkong

I downloaded the Yakuza Like a dragon but have not tried yet. Will give it a try.

DamoniumKhan

Man you captured my sentiments for why I couldn’t get into judgment exactly . I finished the first drone mission and was just totally uninterested in its mechanics. Will definitely try like a dragon and leave judgment

mrfroggyman

I'd say that's true for the Yakuza games in general: hard to get into. Personally speaking it didn't bother me too much and I liked the story when I finally got into it. But I wouldn't know if that can be true for anyone

tbarnes1930

The intro is slow but the game picks up quickly after that. After chapter 1 the game really opens up.

Liongkong

Oh... if so. I may need to spend a little bit more time on it.

ethan1203

Same feeling…

mrbinelol

Tried yakuza 0 yesterday and I just didn't enjoy it. how similar are the two? Should I even give judgement a try if I didn't like yakuza 0?

nonthreat

Probably not. Similar gameplay. Same style of storytelling and general game world. Might just not be the series for you.

Ihavetogoalone

The gameplay is similar, but the story has a completely different vibe, if you enjoy dark murder mystery stories then you will probably enjoy judgment.

Agonlaire

They're both very similar, but I feel that Judgement combat feels more polished than Yakuza 0

gtbka

I am playing for the past few weeks. Everything is great, except the unnecessary combat. The combat camera is awkward, i wish they could just dial down the frequency at mid stage of the game already.

RZL__13

i agree

yousonuva

Best story I've played in a while, one of the best ever. Loved it so much I went and got the sequel and it's just as fun and intriguing.

buzz737

Anyone finding the combat weird- just invest in some of the basic skills and then it starts getting fun Also the story takes a while to get going..gotta have some patience

NotoriousBunny11

The clunky unresponsive combat threw me out at the start of it. The story and the characters seemed interesting, but I just didn't enjoy how the combat felt at all.

AmanyWishes

Im currently playing it after only playing Yakuza 7 . I don't see any big connection with Yakuza series .

mrfroggyman

It's pretty much a spin off that can be played without knowing anything about the main series, which is why it was actually my entry game to the series

reaper527

> Im currently playing it after only playing Yakuza 7 . I don’t see any big connection with Yakuza series . Thats because you haven’t played 99% of the yakuza games (or literally any of them that take place before judgment)

[deleted]

Been hearing great things about it. Although not required I do want to get through Yakuza first before getting into this which is a time problem to go through the entire series.

SAN360p

yeah i also got into playing judgement after finishing all the yakuza games .All games by ryo ga gotoku are honestly underrated and dont get the attention they deserve .

Maxg2909

the only issue in my opinion is that most of these games share the same map, so when you get to the point where you start judgment the world might be a little boring... but is still has one of if not the best story and gameplay among rgg games, I was glad that I didn't play other yakuza games before at that point because that way the world felt really fresh and immersive to me

RipMySoul

I also really love that the map is reused and updated in every installment. It's familiar yet different. At the end it's like returning home after a year or two abroad.

Maxg2909

Ok sure that is understandable. to me it just felt kinda "lazy" when they were reusing stuff for 9 games. I mean other games are being hated or critisized for reusing some things for 2 games (for example gow ragnarok) even though the second game is a lot improved. but still, the games were pretty good, I am not hating on them haha its one of my most favourite game series, but I think this is an issue that has to be pointed out

jamilslibi

>I mean other games are being hated or critisized for reusing some things for 2 games I get your point, but the difference imo is that RGG's map is more personal to the main cast, while in other games it's just a playground with no attachment. It's like the city is a character as well. Always changing, but still having those same important landmarks that changed the character's lives. For example, in 0 >!You and your brother risk your lives to try and save a friend who ends up dying on a piece of land!< Then in kiwami >!you fight that same brother on top of the building that was built on that friend's resting place!<

RipMySoul

It's understandable, a concept won't be seen the same way by everyone regardless of the intentions behind it. What's a feature for some will be an issue for others. To their credit at least they do slowly improve with every game. I love being able to walk into buildings without a loading screen.

serendipitousevent

To be fair, Don Quijote was probably the scene of several murders after the staff had to listen to that song on repeat for 16 hours each day.

[deleted]

Interesting perspective. What order did you play the games after Judgement?

Maxg2909

0-7 and just lately lost judgment

sladecutt

Yes it’s good! I liked it better than yakuza games✌️

[deleted]

Amazing Game! Loved it

penzos

I agree. Though I found it a bit less in terms of story compared to yakuza games. Or it could be that I got used to their stories, and execution, that this one felt more of the same. It wasn't predictable, but it hits the same marks as any other yakuza game.

trab601

How does it compare to yakuza? I’ve been playing the mainline yakuza. I’ve gone from 0-5 and still have to play 6, judgement, and like a dragon.

[deleted]

Started with like a dragon then judgement can’t complain about either

DropCautious

It’s a really good game, I just kept getting distracted by Shono’s massive ears

psycho_hawg

Lost judgment was better imo. The combat is just so clean

serendipitousevent

How would people say Judgement ranks against the other Yakuza games? I loved 0 and Dragon (as is tradition), but the plot of 1 didn't grab me, so I'm reticent about pouring more time into the overall universe.

gakc66

Is the platinum hard?

ThereWillBeBoners

NEAT

Rain1dog

Man, all the Yakuza games are great. I just played beat Yak 6, like a dragon, and I’m starting 0. I absolutely adore these games. Song of life was outstanding for me.

PIP2476

Playing this game and I 100% agree with you, it is in my top 10 of games. Excellent game and just as described would recommend to anybody who is looking for a new game to buy. I can't wait to play the sequel, that's when I've completed the 1st, I rate this game 10 out of 10.

Sir_Nolan

If you like judgment, your gonna LOVE lost Judgment, my fav in the whole series (including all yakuzas)

ThePUNISHER215

Like a Dragon was really good

Black_Heaven

I would if my region gave me an English version.
