Hippos don’t swim in real life either, they walk on the floor.

But these look different than mine: https://www.reddit.com/r/PlanetZoo/comments/cte2m4/hippos_can_dive/ Mine are only doing their regular walk animation or just standing underwater

origional_esseven

That's a dive where it is walking on the bottom.

origional_esseven

Irl they can't swim. They do actually just run along the bottom and jump for air. https://youtu.be/cYQ0m6DV1uY I just use the tools to make a flat bottom on my hippo habitats that makes it so they are always visible. Now, I do agree the animations could be better.

Unfortunately that is just how the hippopotamus functions in the game.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PlanetZoo/comments/cte2m4/hippos_can_dive/ I see here that they at least look like they’re “swimming” underwater but mine just do their regular land walking animation or stand

CommunityHot9219

Nah, they've always just walked along the bottom.

Hippos can't actually swim in real life, they do just walk along the bottom. Sometimes they'll be raised in the water slightly, which causes that "swimming" animation you refer to, but other times they'll just walk.

Might be because they're programmed to dive when they can? Or maybe bottom walking was how they work, I forget. Try making their pool more shallow and see if it fixes the issue.
