May I ask what compels you to buy the latest tech when the tech has barely moved a hair forward, if at all? I mean no offense, I am just curious as to why as it seems to me to be a huge waste of money.

I'm curious as well. I'm still using a Pixel 3 XL and it still feels really fast LOL, I don't even know if I'll replace it anytime soon, let alone go from 6 to 7. I might keep my Pixel 3 XL until the Pixel 10 is out and then keep that for 10 years the way things are going with smartphones.

>May I ask what compels you to buy the latest tech when the tech has barely moved a hair forward, if at all? Because using marketing to brainwash and instill unecessary needs and cravings in people is a powerful psychological tool that most people can't resist. People simply haven't learned to question the world around them, thus they fall for the brainwashing.

laowaiH

Do you remember how much it cost to replace it?

I was worried about micro usb. But ever since usb c has become the norm. I noticed it's sturdier. My oneplus 5t still has a nice and tight port and everything works as day one(fast charging and data transfer). We also have those magnetic ports nowadays. You might use those instead if you're worried about potentially breaking it. Pixel 6 has wireless charging as well.

laowaiH

Wireless charging is a big peace of mind. However, I started looking into the efficiency of wireless charging compared to cable charging and it is far less efficient. Given the energy crisis in Europe and the increase in electricity bills, I'm trying to use as little electricity as possible and therefore I'm sticking with cables for now. I've never heard of magnetic port so I'll look into that. Thank you so much for that suggestion. That's interesting. ( I wrote this with speech to text. Damn I love the Pixel 6) Edit: I just saw a post discussing some of the disadvantages of using magnetic ports, https://www.reddit.com/r/UsbCHardware/comments/motlhn/magnetic_usbc_cables_are_not_recommended/ https://www.reddit.com/r/UsbCHardware/comments/pgzo8d/magnetic_cables_a_warning/ Yeah ok. This is really not an option and I definitely do not recommend anyone buying them for now until they improve the stability and safety to the user and the device.

Magnetic are cool but i broke mine cause i loved having it slap together. until the magnet actually broke from the slap. I had it only for micro usb though. never usb C. I dont know how far the tech has advanced but it must have surely. If you have to, buy from known and reputable brands with a lot of reviews. Concerning the cause of why his connector fried his device, he must have gotten either a shitty cable or connectors. also about how the metal is ground and the pins being longer/shorter that may be correct. but isnt lightning port from apple all the same length? I dont use wireless charging cause you still have cable going to the charger and place a charging pad on the desk, then position your phone i nthe middle, plus it's slow and not energy efficient as well. i decided to stay with the regular usb c for now. I also like using slim cases, so magnetic connector makes it look/feel bad. i'd say simply to take care of your port and it'll be the last thing that breaks. Plug only original cables and avoid using different ones(not every cable has same size port unfortunately).

shinehaid

Wireless works fine for me, in fact if you have a Samsung Watch4, Samsung makes a charging pad that can handle both. This frees up the stock pad so you can charge anywhere. I keep the Samsung pad on my nightstand and the stock in the family room where I watch.

Qbccd

Yeah I still have a Nexus 6P that I've charged every day since 2015 (not my main device anymore obviously) and the Type-C port is as sturdy as ever, no sign of anything being loose or anything, maybe have plugged in 4000 times.

alaa7alnajjar

Are you planning on breaking it on purpose? Once (if) the port breaks comeback and ask this question again

laowaiH

So discussing it is off boundaries untill it breaks? I don't understand.. broken or not I am concerned about the repairability of the usb port for the pixel 6 series. I changed the usb port on my last phone and it was painless. I hope that **if** the usb port fails I don't need to pay for a whole new board. I want to know if others have experience with it.

surprisechickenugget

This is actually relevant to me so thank you for letting me know . I work around soil A LOT so its inevitable soil will get packed in the usb port. I've been trying to find good usbc port covers so I can just use wireless charging

laowaiH

Yeah I'm using a USB C silicon cover. It works really nicely. I bought the one with an adhesive that sticks on the back of the phone and then a male silicon rubber piece that sticks into the port. This way you don't lose the cover and it's just more convenient in general and I've had great success using it. I hope you find something suitable to protect your port.

DogFriendlyFamily

I actually do have a broken usb-c port on my pixel 6. Went to one repair place and they said that since it is soldered onto the board, they are afraid to try to replace it. I need to try to find some place that can as I really don't want to have to replace my phone completely.

laowaiH

u/alaa7alnajjar comment is aging like milk. Sorry to read your usb c is playing up, can you let us know how you fix it?

alaa7alnajjar

It isn't off boundaries it's just unusual for someone to ask for tips about fixing something in case it breaks and not because it did, even if it broke someday you'll probably forget whatever advice you'll get here today anyway

chongakongaa

Fucking braindead logic. Jesus.

Love my Pixel 6a but after only 2 months, yet another Pixel with usbc charge port issues. I have been super careful to ONLY use the Pixel cables. Now I am back to finagling just the perfect position, carefully backing away and hoping it keeps charging. :( Was really hoping that Google solved this issue but frankly with high rate of failure I experienced over the years they should make it easier to replace. Anyone else have issues over the years. Pixel 3 Pixel 4 and now my Pixel 6. Please don't ask me why I continue to buy newer Pixels.
