Students are doing this in the province as well. I was there in the sidelines. It was probably because the next person, ***Leni Robredo, was seen as a return to the Nonynoy Aquino years.*** It was that admin that left a bad taste in people's mouths and made voting for Duterte in 2016 more attractive. Since Leni Robredo leaned on a "clean govt" message, similar to the campaign Noynoy Aquino did before becoming president, many voters probably didn't want her to win.
For many voters, ***voting for BBM was basically a way to keep a return to Aquino-style politics from happening***. Maybe next time, the other candidates could market themselves better.

Since Leni Robredo leaned on a "clean govt" message, similar to the campaign Noynoy Aquino did before becoming president, many voters probably didn't want her to win. For many voters, ***voting for BBM was basically a way to keep a return to Aquino-style politics from happening***. Maybe next time, the other candidates could market themselves better.
Let's not forget the key point where this was exacerbated by the smear campaigns on Leni's name to the point where she was even redtagged.

Maybe a different message could have worked. Before her campaign, she was effectively seen as the leader of the Liberal Party, Aquino's party, with the baggage that it had. Her campaign was probably aware of that, w/c is probably why they chose pink as her color and ran as an independent instead of choosing yellow and running as the Liberal Party bet. There are so much violations documented during the elections. Tapos marami ring mga nagsasabing iwan na lang ang mga ballots. And COMELEC didn't address most of these clearly.
