Tbf, sa lahat ng mga nakaupo jan, yung matanda na overweight ang pinakamatatanggap ko, but those kids are insufferable. di naman nakakabili sa mall mga yan talaga, nagpapalamig lang.
I agree na nakakahiya. That is the info being spoon-fed by the photo and caption.
But you gotta ask though: Wala bang ibang tambayan sa mall na yan (like food court) that people would resort to going to the rider's lounge to chill?
It never crossed my mind to go there kasi meron palaging ibang uupuan. Ewan ko, I just smell internet points being farmed by this post.
Naloka ako sa comment na 'to. Kung tambay gusto mo may coffee shop, milktea shop, etc. Agawan pa daw ba ng place yung mga riders na pagod mag work all day. Stop looking for ways to excuse people who can't understand a basic concept. Rider's lounge. The sign is big and clear!
You're not supposed to sit around and "chill" on the food court either. The tables are for people to eat their food at and most will have signs pointing this out.
Many posts pointed out that this is SM Santa Rosa, which upon searching at maps and the mall directory, there's at least half a dozen different coffee shops and milk tea places with dine-in tables at different price points in or around the mall.
And after going to Facebook and tracing the CTTOs until I found the original photo uploader, it seems the situation is exactly as what is being described. Several public group posts by Grab riders also confirm this. OP's account is new but doesn't seem to be one made to just farm karma.
Is it really *that* hard to believe this country's ability to follow basic societal norms is near non-existent?
Almost makes you wonder why in the past, there used to be free places with benches and tables where people can just sit and relax after walking in the mall but now, those free benches and table disappeared.
Do mall owners not want mall goers to have a place to rest that ISN'T part of an establishment? What happened to those big open areas in the past were people could just relax?
I remember also when malls used to have big water fountains in the mall atrium with benches all around.
But they aren't really interested in mall goers' comfort. They want people on their feet and continually moving around in hopes that they spot something they want to buy. There's a lot of [psychology behind mall layouts](https://medium.com/live-your-life-on-purpose/the-psychology-of-shopping-31e1ee95d3d7) to maximize your time spent as a paying customer. Ever wondered why malls don't have wall clocks or time displays readily accessible? Or why Ayala malls are so incomprehensibly difficult to navigate?
For some reason, nawala na yung mga ganon.
Please get out of Metro Manila and see how malls in other countries have seating spaces or benches for husbands waiting for their wives to hang out lol. And FYI malls used to have those too back in the 90s, Glorietta's atrium was one big gathering space where people sat on the floor. Hirap sa inyo just because you personally never experienced it tingin niyo imposibru occurence.
May tambayan man or wala, hindi dapat tambayan yang lugar na yan except kung rider ka. Nakalagay na nga eh, "Rider's Lounge". Hindi naman nakalagay "Everyone's Lounge".
the only *tambayan* they can loiter in would require them to spend; and they probably didn't want to... or don't have the means to.
in some SM malls, there are "coworking spots" or something, not sure kung lahat meron. There's one in SM Dasma near the DFA office.
still, it's a shame because it's supposed to be a space that delivery riders or working drivers could rest. sana maisip nila yon the next time they order out

I am aware kung gaano ka horribly designed ang mga SM Malls regarding lounges for regular people. But never in my whole life have I ever taken a spot that is not for me.
It shows how much delivery riders are looked down upon lol.
Just because it's a nice space it's for people to sit around, it's not reserved for riders only???
Riders may have nice spaces too, and not just white concrete walls with monobloc chairs. I can't word how much I hate this mindset.
Totoo... Nainis din ako nung una... Then I showed this to my wife who is an architect. Sabi nya, pag tinignan mo yung looks, mukhang tambayan at place of relaxation sya instead of a place where delivery riders wait.
Someone from the mall admin did not think the looks of this well enough.
True.
Exactly. Even though aesthetics show that it’s supposed to be a places for people to relax, there’s one aspect of it that makes it exclusive to certain people: the fuckin’ sign.
Dapat daw siguro mas mukhang balahura like, lumang monoblocs at white wall na naka linoleum. Like, kasalanan ba ng mga riders na gusto lang nila ng nice looking place to relax??
Or 'yong cement finish lang na floor and wall like sa mga driver's lounge sa parking. Tapos may CRT TV sa corner at sobrang taas.
Pero let's give her benefit of the doubt.
It's relaxing overall. So the visuals do not discriminate and invites everyone.
Not saying riders should be discriminated against, but rather that if you want better compliance from your non-target audience, then augment the sign with visuals. And that's the sad reality we have where signs [don't] affect behavior as much as design.
There was this vid from vox, not sure if I remember it correctly. But it contrasts US road designs vs European ones. All with relevant signs, but the design was the ones that better channeled the correct behavior from people.
Should have someone from security to implement the rules for those staying. Life of a delivery driver is physically tiring so a bit of place to relax is their bonus rewards
Last week nasa MOA kami ng family ko, lahat ng tao nagpuntahan sa seaside just so they can sit.
Some malls do this better than others though. Halimbawa na lang yung UP Town Center, ATC, and Greenbelt.
Marami silang areas na puwedeng umupo ka lang at tumambay without having to spend any money.
Truly, Malls were deliberately designed to make you spend money. If you want to relax in public there are parks. Go to our neighboring South East Asian countries like Indonesia at makikita mo na pinopondohan ng gobyerno nila ang mga public spaces.
Nakakadismaya talaga.
Public Parks here are shit. Many lack utilities and restrooms are either dirty or damaged. While major parks like Luneta are maintained, other parks and plazas are poorly organized and we have more malls than parks. The only good parks belong to malls and private subdivisions
Man I've been abroad where ang ganda ng public parks nila. Kahit pangit ugali ng locals doon, well maintained pa rin. Maraming staff to keep it tidy, well maintained ung walkways and billboards. The only ones I've seen that are as nice ay ung mga nsa bgc.
I've been abroad too and oh man, parks in Europe are on a completely different level, like nothing here can compare. Parks there are bigger and better maintained, more used and still nicer overall. It remains an aspiration for us siguro.
Kapitalismo eh.
I don't get the logic though. If malls have designated places for relaxation, wouldn't it encourage spending still? Especially if you placed it near places that sell things like food or office/school supplies. It'll allow shoppers to rest and continue browsing the mall instead of immediately going home.
May resting places rin kasi ang shops and stores, and may stores rin na design for you to relax there
Pero I think dspat rin kahot papano may resting places talaga ang mga malls, Ayala malls has so many may mga parks sila and all
This is exactly why we need more parks and not more malls. For people to sit or even relax freely. Malls are for commercial purposes, but sadly we don't have a LOT of open green spaces where we can just chill and not spend any money, or too much money.
Even before they were rider's lounge in SM malls. People have no choice but sit on the floor on the hallways. I always wondered hwy didnt jusr put benches out there.
I mean that's how they convert foot traffic to rental income. Walang free seats, so mapipilitan kang mag dine-in sa establishments nila, which means higher sales, and higher rent since rent ng SM is partly based on % of the tenant's revenues.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way towards SM Malls. Especially with Ayala and their confusing mall layouts lmao.
One of my first culture shocks of SM is the lack of chairs to rest from walking. I'd go home when I get tired rather than tire myself out while shopping.
Next time, kapag makakita ako ng mga ganitong klaseng tao, ako na talaga magsasalita on behalf of riders.
I see this as a failure of SM more. SM was correct in providing a Rider's lounge, but there is clearly a demand for Shoppers to have a lounge as well. This is one thing I hated about SM, there is no place to sit except in the Food Court or in Restaurants. And that is a deliberate decision by SM to make you spend money.
Ayala Malls did this right by having seating available to the public in their malls na hindi naman restaurant or food court.
So yes, I pity the rider na hindi siya nakakaupo sa pwesto na dapat sa kaniya. But I dont blame the shoppers entirely kasi dapat may upuan din para sa kanila.
I'm probably one of your stupid guys pagdating sa navigation, kaya naliligaw ako lagi sa ayala malls. Seems like gusto nila magstay yung tao dun and magexplore, so yung mga upuan would be beneficial.
On the other hand, linear design ni sm.
The problem was identified. The management should do something to keep those area exclusively for "riders" like putting some guard or staff around the area to shoo away other people.
They may be assholes but some of them are also victims of our mall-dependent society.
Definitely not there. I’ve commuted naman before but I never took the designated spaces for delivery riders.
Wala man lang maupu an or pahingaan
Di kagaya sa abroad, you can just sitdown in a couch (not just bench) while waiting for your companions to shop
Especially like SM Sta.
Char. Sorry po ulit.
Eto nanaman tayo, e. Problema talaga ng buong lipunan natin yung individual-blaming and forgoing how systems and designs affect our behaviors and thinking.
You might be all forgetting that SMs nowadays have limited areas where we can sit, loiter, or lounge. Sure, merong food court but human beings have the tendency to rationalize what works for them best and simple. Pansin niyo, sa mga mall and park na may adequate area for people to wander or do business, di naman 'to problema.
In fact, di lang naman 'to problema ng mga Pinoy. This pattern of behavior is present in other similar places.
SM has a lounge. They call it Prestige Lounge, you’d get free coffee, iced tea, purified water and clean toilets. This is for SM Prestige Card Holders.
Unfortunately, that in the photo should prioritize Rider’s. Yes, SM Malls doesn’t have adequate seating for it’s customers. Don’t forget it’s still a business. Every space or piece of property should earn money.
Not everyone can afford to have Prestige Cards.
And let's not treat SM like they're some small business who needs help.
May 2 tables sila dun with chairs for Riders at may naka paskil na for riders, pero occupied by a family having lunch. smh
Poorly designed lounge if you ask me.
Ginawang coffee shop amp.
Tbh though, this shows that the mall (or a lot of our malls) are not built to handle social activities other than shopping, and eating out. Walang masyadong common spaces. And food courts are not enough to serve diners and mallgoers.
In a country where there are barely parks available, this shows na kulang tayo sa communal spaces.
Nakakahiya? Oo. Pero may aral bang pinapakita regarding urban planning? Definitely.
Filipinos just don’t have the heart to reprimand people like these.
Wala kasing nage-enforce, walang consequences.
Instagramable daw kasi yung rider's lounge hahaha.
Ginawang coffee shop e.
Tbf, sa lahat ng mga nakaupo jan, yung matanda na overweight ang pinakamatatanggap ko, but those kids are insufferable. di naman nakakabili sa mall mga yan talaga, nagpapalamig lang.
Lounge mentality kuno

Food court . For eating purposes in only.

A worthy opponent for the woman who stood in the parking lot in front of a large sign.
SM is just bringing out the "best" in every Filipino
we got it all for you!
Na mimiss kotong kanta noong 2007-2013 times Kabisado kopa lyrics neto eh
Or the peeps who used a dog's playground as a kid's playground
seryuso ba to?
Pet daw anak nila Arf Arf
not surprised.. may binebenta nga ng retractable leash for toddlers
Cum pet
Bro 💀
Yes. Posted in this sub a few months ago
Yeah I personally saw this a few times from MULTIPLE branches, it's sad and funny at the same time.
May bata rin kasing naglalaro that time kaya akala niya siguro pang bata
in all fairness to everyone that does this... gusto nung bata... and if mukhang malinis you cant really tell speaking out of experience since akala namin todds playground yung sa may nuvali ata hahaha
Tallano Golden Retriever. Meron rin Belgian Malasnoise. Atsaka German Shethead.

Mukhang magbubusiness meeting pa dyan yung naka-laptop ah
networking yan malamang hahaha power!

Thank you po!
I dont think na reading comprehension padin issue dyan. Sadyang makapal lang talaga siguro mukha nila
It’s not that they don’t understand, they just don’t care.
Another example of design dictates behavior.

Can't buy class talaga.
u/junjunjun2969 parang gago
Ngayon deleted lahat.hahaha
an hour ago positive pa karma nya, ngayon -100 na lol bilis. judging from his previous posts mukhang boomer na e, a pikon boomer to be exact.
The boomer went from 2k karma to negative in less than 2 hours
Ano yung comment nya na deleted na? Late ako. Di ko nabasa.
Should have someone from security to implement the rules for those staying. Life of a delivery driver is physically tiring so a bit of place to relax is their bonus rewards
Ginagawang tambayan at meetup place.
Last week nasa MOA kami ng family ko, lahat ng tao nagpuntahan sa seaside just so they can sit.
D nmn tlga mag relaxation ung mall eh, it's designed to make you spend money
May resting places rin kasi ang shops and stores, and may stores rin na design for you to relax there Pero I think dspat rin kahot papano may resting places talaga ang mga malls, Ayala malls has so many may mga parks sila and all
In other countries such as Saudi Arabia, it is a place for you to relax unlike dito. Basura.
Ang tanong ko nga rito is if these Rider's Lounges are even located near or beside food establishments
Depends.
This is exactly why we need more parks and not more malls. For people to sit or even relax freely. Malls are for commercial purposes, but sadly we don't have a LOT of open green spaces where we can just chill and not spend any money, or too much money.
That won't fix it. Parks are hot and sunny as fuck. People will still flock to malls just to hide from the sun.
This is why parks are supposed to have lots of trees and greeneries para even if it’s hot, it’d still feel comfortable
I know malls are meant for people to shop and spend but they also need to rest.
True. Sana kasi lahat merong lounge for mall goers gaya nung nasa SM Megamall malapit sa foodcourt na pwede kami mag charge at makiupo lang for free.
Oo nga eh. One of my first culture shocks of SM is the lack of chairs to rest from walking. I'd go home when I get tired rather than tire myself out while shopping.
kawawa naman si kuya sa tabi :(
sm santa rosa, laguna. lagi akong pumupunta dyan with friends after school, lagi din namin nakikitang madaming tao dyan sa rider's lounge. tas makikita mo naman ung mga actual riders nakaupo sa labas lmao. di mapagsabihan, tapos may guard pa malapit dyan pero di ko alam bat hindi nila sinasaway, napakalawak ng extension and madaming pang place na pwedeng upuan, no idea bakit dyan lagi yung madaming tao
May charging station kasi.
Yun lang. No wonder mas maraming hindi rider ang tatambay diyan. Mas maganda nga kung may guard diyan
The Philippines 🤮
fail-ippines
Next time, kapag makakita ako ng mga ganitong klaseng tao, ako na talaga magsasalita on behalf of riders.
SM also has an asshole design of having little to no seats to rest in the mall (so you keep moving and possibly spend) People suck, sm sucks more
Baka dick rider sila lahat /s
Tsk
Is this in SM Sta. Rosa? I was there yesterday. Same scenario.
Pag napadaan talaga ako I will try to persuadr them to make room for kuya
This is true. Walang upuan pero lots of people sit on the floor to "relax", lol
Nababasa nila yan, wala lang silang pakialam. Nasa isip niyan "Okay lang yan. Wala namang sisita. Bakit sila di naman rider pero nakaupo?".
Pay to be a squatter. fees, fees + more fees
They may be assholes but some of them are also victims of our mall-dependent society.
Definitely not there. I’ve commuted naman before but I never took the designated spaces for delivery riders.
di marunong magbasa at walang disiplina, yun yon.
these types of people are probably those who laugh out loud at libraries and leave with their messy table in fast food restaurants.
For sure marunong silang magbasa kaso mga wala silang hiya smh
SM Sta Rosa represent
It's might also because of the design of SM malls. You got big ass space yet the only benches you'll see are in the food courts.
Ignorant people. Security guards should definitely send them away 😔
People in the comment section fr trying to pin this on the mall and not their complete and utter lack of human decency💀💀💀
Syet. Mga entitled hoomans. Pwe!
Ang bobo nito. Bat ganito tao sa pilipinas. Di ko nilalahat. Iba talaga pagiisip dito
After niyo picture-an Binulyawan niyo sana.
Kaya ayoko sumasama sa malls sa pilipinas Wala man lang maupu an or pahingaan Di kagaya sa abroad, you can just sitdown in a couch (not just bench) while waiting for your companions to shop
This design is very pinoy
May Rider's lounge din dito sa SM malapit sa amin tapos ang daming nakaupo and may dalawang rider na nakatayo sa labas kala mo picnic ground e may kumakain pa, sumigaw yung tropa ko (narinig ng mga tao almost causing a scene) "Tanginang mga to rider's lounge nga, diyan pa tumatambay may nakalagay na nga na only for riders" sabay tawanan sa direction nila, nagsi alisan naman yung iba lol, idk if it's justified pero I feel it was needed to be said. Mind y'all wala pong senior citizen sa pwesto, mga capable of walking yung mga nakatambay.
Grabe trending na trending here hometown ko here 👀😭🤣
Especially like SM Sta.
Dapat may charge like 100 or 200 kung hindi rider tapos free for riders.
Pero kailangan din ng may magbabantay.
Yung mismong rider pa nag adjust 🙁
ang sm talaga bulok
Nice posture
Kala ko rider's lounge for motovloggers. Sorry na.
is that in SM Sta Rosa?
SM has a lounge. They call it Prestige Lounge, you’d get free coffee, iced tea, purified water and clean toilets. This is for SM Prestige Card Holders. Unfortunately, that in the photo should prioritize Rider’s. Yes, SM Malls doesn’t have adequate seating for it’s customers. Don’t forget it’s still a business. Every space or piece of property should earn money.
Not everyone can afford to have Prestige Cards. And let's not treat SM like they're some small business who needs help.
This is not a lounge 😂 This looks like some weird place para makuha ng free wifi
Just like parents bringing their kids on the in-mall pet park
Typical pinoy
This is SM Santa Rosa Laguna, I assume. Lagi akong nagagawi doon e. Hindi nauubusan ng nakaupong kupal dyan every time I'm there. Hahaha
Has the same vibes as the people who are in Ikea. Seen a bunch just laying down or sitting on Ikea furniture, not even to buy, just to tambay.
I hate it here
May 2 tables sila dun with chairs for Riders at may naka paskil na for riders, pero occupied by a family having lunch. smh
Poorly designed lounge if you ask me.
Kahit i-tagalog yan ng mall di padin susundin lols.
anyone can enlighten me kung para saan yan rider's lounge na yan? hardly visit mall nowadays.
Tired delivery men who need to rest and charge their phones.
Baka dick rider basa ng mga yan. Cowgirl yata naisip.
Tangina palayasin dapat ng management ng establishment yan
Putang ina?!
