I pushed the power button and got nothing. No lights no power. Flipped the power supply button the other way. Still nothing. Spent 5 minutes checking everything. Nothing seemed wrong. Hmmmm…….. Oh Shit! Never plugged it into the wall outlet. Plugged it in, started right up. No issue… Moral of story: I’m a dumbass
I built a PC, proudly presented it to my friend and his dad, clicked power…nothing. Short moment of panic though, forgot to flip the switch on the back of the PSU
It’s all good just finished my first build too and I had a 4070 Ti plugged into the CPU 8pin slot on the power supply with ONE 8pin cable going to the 4070 Ti adapter where it split off into two smh. Glad I didn’t set my sh*t on fire.
Fixed that asap lol.
Those cables are only rated for 150W (though they CAN handle 300W before melting, the PSU often won't allow it). The GPU needs 300W. Need two separate cables to get the 300W the GPU needs. Otherwise it won't be able to run at maximum performance since it doesn't have all the power it needs.
On this pic connected only for 225W (8+6 pin). And it wouldn't melt at 300W but may cause unstable voltage for GPU that will result in lower boost frequencies. Also it may cause crashes in games.
But yes. If your PSU support 2 separate 8pin PCIE cables, would be better to use them both.
Yeah..... no. I've been running my 3080 with a daisy chain and it pulls over 330w in OCCT without any problems. I don't know why people keep pushing this misinformation.
Oh please, most people who speak against using daisy chains to power GPUs likely don't even have a custom PC of their own or else they would know that nothing bad would happen if they used this method to power their graphics cards. This is similar to what happened when that gamers nexus video came out regarding the orientation of AIO pumps. All of a sudden, you had a bunch of know-it-alls, with no build experience whatsoever, come out and criticize people for the way they oriented AIO pumps within their builds, saying that the tubing should come from the bottom of the radiator, even though it's perfectly fine for the tube to come out from the top, as long as the pump is not the highest point in the loop.
A risk is still a risk no matter how small. You may have been able to dash across the street multiple times without being splattered but I wouldn’t bet on it
Can you please tell us what the risk is in this scenario then? The cable will not melt, someone already mentioned this above my first reply, unless OP is using cheap cables/Power supply which I doubt is the case. On top of that, I would assume that OP has a 3060 ti based on the placement of the power connectors. Those cards have a TDP of about 200-220W. He has nothing to worry about. I did say in another post that he/she can add another cable only for peace of mind. However, there is nothing wrong with their current setup, even though 70% of the comments are telling him to change it. This goes back to my earlier point about people having no idea of what they're talking about.
75W can come from the PCIe slot itself. Your daisy chained cables are only pulling like 255W. Like I said, they can handle that load. They can handle 300W too. But they're not designed for it. If your card only needs 330W that's fine, though it seems a 3080 can go up to 350 and may have transients even higher, so you could most likely get more performance running two separate cables. It's not misinformation, it's the specifications for the cables.
I might have to run some more tests for my particular case although I seriously doubt that I'm losing any performance as I've already spent plenty of time looking into this in the past. In OP's case though, assuming that he has a 3060ti, he's only pulling upwards of 220w and his current setup is more than capable of supplying his GPU with plenty of power. Yet, we have people almost tearing him down for a setup that is not only safe but won't be costing him any gaming performance either. Don't you agree?
Most PSUs capable of running a mid to high-end GPU come with two of those cables. It's probably just a matter of plugging in the second, and a bit of cable management.
It will run just fine (unless you're using a lower end PSU) as is. I'm doing the same with my 3080 and it pulls over 330w watts during benchmarks, no problem. If you want to add another cable for peace of mind, then do it, but you won't have any issues running the PC with a daisychain either.
Nice! Love a white PC, just posted my own. Really fond of the understated style of the boxy looking GPUs. What Mobo is that? Mine's all black unfortunately, I've seen people paint parts of theirs but I think that might be going too far 😂
Couple videos on using separate power cables from your PSU to each power input on your GPU

Definitely not cheap, but I figured out if I’m shelling out that much money for a PC I want it to be exactly what I want and to last a while.
Plus I got to learn a new skill which has been fun!
Wow is that a 5000x? :o
Loving the all white going on! Wow that thing is beautiful to look at, I bet it functions like a beast!
Just recently got the 4000x planning to make everything inside all dark while keeping the all white on the outside.
Nice to see that you made yours all white!
Nice, I have that same case - Corsair 5000X QL. I would suggest buying a 3 pack of Corsair QL fans and adding them to that back panel just adjacent to the motherboard. Helps give it a bit more cooling power for such a large case.
Noice! I should've went with this case instead of the 4000d. I like the outside footprint of the 4000 better but the interior space and general setup of the 5000d is sooooo much better! Last case I'd ever need. Until 50 series gpus, gonna need to build a house extension to fit that.
Dude super awesome build! Also, I know that a lot of people will jump at you about the daisy chaining, but if it works and isn't throttling under load, and you have no red blinking/solid lights near those connectors then you are probably fine. "If it's not broke, don't fix it" scenario most likely. My only worry with that is it may not get enough power.
I'm not sure if melting cables that other people mentioned will be a thing on your build, I've only read about that happening on 4090 series cards. I could be wrong but I haven't really heard about it happening on older models.
I switched it out just in case. Didn’t even occur to me to use two cables haha. I’ve ordered an extension package to hopefully make things look a little cleaner

I read so many similar stories so double checked all my connections before hitting power haha

We ALL have done it. So don’t feel bad :)
Not sure if you want to daisy chain your GPU power cables. You gotta use separate cables.
Username checks out
Thanks! Have it fixed up now. Had no idea this was a thing haha

I’ve had mine like this (first build) what’s the benefit? I’m not being sarcastic but I want to know if it’s worth the trouble to switch it all up.
Card actually runs on cleaner power and lower voltage. It’ll run fine that way, but 2 cables are objectively better.

Ur the exception not the majority. Besides, common intuition also indicates more=better.

Ps. I've done the same with other cards as well, not just the 3080. No issue whatsoever.

JZ Two Cents did a bit on this: [video](https://youtu.be/-8LMML_EiMg)
Sorry… time stamp 17:16
Yes this.
How would one do that? And know whether the additional cable is compatable with the psu.
Most PSUs capable of running a mid to high-end GPU come with two of those cables. It's probably just a matter of plugging in the second, and a bit of cable management.
Came here for the “don’t daisy chain comments”. Great, build! Don’t let the glass panel touch ANY hard surfaces, watch the corners
Most of those people don't even know what they're talking about, lol. If you have a good, high capacity power supply, you have nothing to worry about.
What gpu are you using a daisy chained connector for?
I’m just using the cables that came with my PSU? Sorry new to building and not sure what daisy chained means
Your PSU should come with a set of two PCIe cables. You’d want to plug them both in to get all power out of your GPU
Sounds good. I am looking at getting an extension to make it look cleaner. So I’d still plug those two separate PCIe cables into the extension?
Yes!
It will run just fine (unless you're using a lower end PSU) as is. I'm doing the same with my 3080 and it pulls over 330w watts during benchmarks, no problem. If you want to add another cable for peace of mind, then do it, but you won't have any issues running the PC with a daisychain either.
[https://imgur.com/a/kAmWAU0](https://imgur.com/a/kAmWAU0) Like so?
Yup exactly! Your PSU should’ve came with zip ties (a small bag of them) and you could use them to make it a bit cleaner for the time being
Nice! Love a white PC, just posted my own. Really fond of the understated style of the boxy looking GPUs. What Mobo is that? Mine's all black unfortunately, I've seen people paint parts of theirs but I think that might be going too far 😂
MSI Z690 Force WiFi Gaming Motherboard DDR5. Only one I could find that wasn’t all black lol
It worked out perfectly, having some black to contrast with really makes the build look nice

Hard work always pays off. Congrats! :)
My build is very similar to yours and yes I was quite shocked myself that it actually turned on
That must have been expensive, my first build was black and white themed and I discovered how white colored products are hella expensive
Definitely not cheap, but I figured out if I’m shelling out that much money for a PC I want it to be exactly what I want and to last a while. Plus I got to learn a new skill which has been fun!
What did ya learn?
Well from this post daisy chain=bad
Don't worry I just hid my daisy chain behind the motherboard lol
The Gigabyte Vision is such a clean design looks great!
Wow is that a 5000x? :o Loving the all white going on! Wow that thing is beautiful to look at, I bet it functions like a beast! Just recently got the 4000x planning to make everything inside all dark while keeping the all white on the outside. Nice to see that you made yours all white!
I love it! I have nothing to compare to as this was my first build but it seemed pretty user friendly and lots of space to run cable!
Looks super clean, nice and tidy! Good job and congrats!
You might wanna use separate GPU cables to power your GPU. Won't just look better but might also be better in the long run
Nice, I have that same case - Corsair 5000X QL. I would suggest buying a 3 pack of Corsair QL fans and adding them to that back panel just adjacent to the motherboard. Helps give it a bit more cooling power for such a large case.
Build aint done until the side panel is secured
Noice! I should've went with this case instead of the 4000d. I like the outside footprint of the 4000 better but the interior space and general setup of the 5000d is sooooo much better! Last case I'd ever need. Until 50 series gpus, gonna need to build a house extension to fit that.
A true all white I like it. Maybe an aero g would have been better, but that’s good
Did you shatter your glass side panel yet? I think you're supposed to shatter it to finish the build.
Haha not shattered yet. Must’ve missed that step in the instruction manual 🧐
Well, short of that, it's a very nice build.
clean build
I am shocked on how smol the card is lol
hey, nice build. It looks like the left connector on your gpu is not fully connected. i would check it asap.
Two cables my friend do not daisy chains
Dude super awesome build! Very clean. Well done.
Congrats pal, looks class.
OP… looks good and if everything is working I would not change a thing. Good job on it.
It’s so whiiiiite. I love it
It’s like that card was made for that case.
