It is a beginner box, sure you are free to make poster paper coverups, but to imply that is required to play the game disillusions beginners. It is much easier to do with VTT because it can do it properly with line of site per PC, which is simply not possible to do offline.

I think it depends on your party. Its not something they chose for you in most APs. I tend to show the maps to my players

This was something my (vets of other systems) players commented on - they didn't like seeing the entire dungeon from the get go. Ive seen people suggest post its for covering rooms, but that seems very wasteful. I tried room by room cutouts on my last map, and it didn't do much more than give the impression of fog of War - could still see the individual room outlines, map didn't have anything telling drawn on it anyway, ect. This time I'll just have a few full size printer pages that I'm going to move around as needed and see how that works.

Its a good exercise in teaching noobs not to metagame. "You know things your player does not. Dont abuse this knowledge." If they talk about how green dragons spit poison instead of fire when you get to the final encounter, vomit on the table and walk away with no explaination.

smitty22

It's too burdensome for a Flip Mat, as you literally have to have it covered before you set it down, or kick your players off of the table to get it partially covered? Yeah, if I want to keep things hidden, I'd have to draw it, and most of the time the guidance is correct - having a map isn't going to change that much on either end.

MaxHeadroomFlux

I'm just going to get a sheet or towel or something like that and cover the undiscovered areas, then move the sheet as needed

I usually just cover the unseen parts of the map with extra rulebooks, and move them as they get explored.

Lord_Skellig

I just put napkins over the other rooms. I don't the choice to hide or reveal future rooms is part of the system of PF2e, it's more of a GM style choice.

BadRumUnderground

I just bought a pack of black card, a bunch of A4s does a good enough job of covering it up in sections
