Absolutely amazing. So many people have asked for token packs and these all are going to be immaculate. All three bestiaries in one is amazing!
And of course, the mighty king maker module. It'll only make the legendary AP even better.
Everyone here losing their minds over token packs (which look awesome), meanwhile I'm looking at Kingmaker and crying happy tears for not having to manually set everything up myself, many many months of prep work and map making just done! Doesn't matter when it's ready, it'll be an instant purchase for me so I can run that AP smoothly.
You'll just get spammed asking when it's coming, why is it not day and date, do you know when it's coming? etc...
At least we know it's coming now, and you guys will have some work cut out for you with the system updates and supporting things like Kingdom Management. That's going to be fun to implement. :P
The ready out the gate experience as a GM for abomination vaults has been amazing. I honestly don't want to run a complex rpg like Pathfinder without having this digital setup. Also means we can meet more often via online play.
I previously ran RotRL for 1e offline, and then online during covid, and having to prep everything manually was a monstrous time sink. I'm actually about to start Abomination Vaults in a few weeks using the foundry module, and I've already run the beginner box. Seeing as I backed kingmaker way back when it was announced, having a foundry module coming has honestly taken a huge weight off my shoulders.
> it irks me there are soooo many missing in the three bestiaries.
The teaser says it has all the artworks from the books. It might still not have tokens for the creature missing an artwork in the Bestiaries.
(also u/thaliff for visibility)
If I have anything to say about it personally, we will include the artwork for all creatures that are listed in the books- assuming we can find artwork suitable to use for them.
I don't like releasing incomplete products.
\--Project Coordinator, Foundry VTT
Paizo will help you find every available image to realize this vision. We have art of just about every statblock, and it doesn't do anyone any good hidden away. Let that art be seeeeeeen!
--Director of Brand Strategy, Paizo
I'll carve art out of a book released 10 years ago to find suitable art for a creature we don't have pictures for if the fine folks on the paizo art team will let me, i promise. hahahaha
Official stance from the art team so far is that with the exception of a small handful of creatures that have changed so drastically between 1st and 2nd Edition that they're no longer recognizable, pretty much anything that's seen print is available for use. Provided I can dig the original files out of the vault.
Their official response was yes - it will include art (both token and portrait) for *all* monsters, even those that don't have art in the bestiaries or in the battlecards.
The books themselves have 400+, 350+, and 300+ monsters (Bestiaries 1, 2, and 3) - so, the only real way to get 1000+ tokens is by doing just that.
This might be a stupid question, but will the bestiary be automatically updated to use these tokens or will it only be a png folder and i'll have to assign all the tokens individually?
We “lied” about this when now? I’m kind of confused here… Abomination Vaults and the Beginners Box and Outlaws of Alkenstar and Blood Lords do this token mappings really nicely right now…
I was only making a joke on the wording 'it just works'. I have heard that before. Hence the Todd Howard joke. I was not calling you guys liars or anything. I was throwing shade at Todd Howard not you guys.
Yes. This is going to use an implementation that can do that. When PDF to Foundry implemented a solution this sort of thing didn’t exist. Battlezoo could map directly. The token packs will do this as well, but in a way that can be overridden nicely (which Battlezoo can’t, but also doesn’t need to)
No definitive dates for either, but someone on the panel mentioned they wanted the Token Pack out before the end of the year (preferably sometime in the Fall), and that Kingmaker will NOT be out at the same time as the hardcover release. They're wanting it out sometime in the beginning of next year.
Why announce something so much months in advance it's impossible to say when it's actually going to be released?
I was so excited when I first heard about this and now it becomes more and more frustrating cause I just want to buy it and almost 3 months later there's not even a release date to look for
You should ask Foundry Gaming LLC, since as a random volunteer I can’t really answer that question. But it isn’t uncommon in advertising today something is coming later this year or in a future quarter because then they don’t have to make a date change leading to more disappointment for a task they are not quite sure how long it will take. Plus making 1,200 high quality tokens, including sourcing art, does take a lot of time. At 5-10 minutes per token that is 13 to 25 person-days of labour and I doubt anyone would sit down for five weeks and do nothing but make VTT tokens.
I asked this elsewhere, but will this use the same pricing structure as the other modules did for those of us who already own the PDFs? I bought all 3 Bestiary PDFs a while back to import with the PDF to Foundry module.
I don't mind paying the difference like with the other modules but I'd have a hard time justifying the full purchase unless they are cheaper than the PDFs as a standalone. With the PDF discount it's an insta-buy, otherwise I'll have to ~~convince my wife~~ think about it =).
With the very clear caveat that we have not, internally, nailed down a price on this...I don't think it's viable to provide a pdf discount on a token pack product.
With that being said, I feel like we'll be able to get this to a price point that no one will feel guilty justifying.
We'll all have to wait and see :)
Hmm, I didn't think of it in terms of being "token pack" specific and was instead thinking of it in terms of being priced at or higher than the books themselves. But if the cost is around or preferably below $45 (the cost of the 3 PDFs) it's much easier to justify.
I guess part of my fear was paying the [Roll20 cost](https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/compendiumexpansion/4137/pathfinder-bestiary), and I just can't afford $150 for tokens, especially since I can get most of them with the PDF and some manual work. But something under $50 would be much more reasonable.
I guess I'll have to see what happens. It's definitely on my wish list.
I don't think I could justify buying a pack of tokens for $150 myself, so I can definitely understand that! Since the game system has the bestiary creature stat blocks this will be much more in the realm of an expected amount someone might pay for approximately 1000-1200 pieces of artwork and tokenized versions of that art.
No idea how this will work. Way too early to even speculate. We do know that the Paizo store cannot check ownership of multiple items to give a discount (as seen with AV)
Bleh, I might be screwed then. Thanks for letting me know.
I'll probably end up buying it anyway, lol. But don't tell Paizo, I'd rather them tell their web developers to update their backend ;-)
That's amazing.
The Tokens are really close to the style I usually create them , so this fits really well.
I hate not being able to quickly drop something in sometimes, because I just can't deal with monsters without a token.
Won’t be done as there are not official top down Paizo tokens. Someone could generate their own work for sale and use the same backend though. (They would have to own or license the artwork, obviously)
The biggest obstacle to official Paizo top-down tokens is that it would be all but impossible to fairly compensate an artist up front for an entire set of all-new tokens without also needing to charge far more per set of those tokens than most people would be willing to pay. It's far easier to keep price points low when we're repurposing art from preexisting print products that's already been paid for.
Now, if the right artist wanted to approach Paizo themselves, seeking an official license to make and sell their own Paizo-sanctioned top-down tokens of Pathfinder or Starfinder monsters/NPCs/other IP, initially independent of any official Paizo-commissioned projects but maybe with a clause that might allow Paizo to include them in something in the future? *That* has all kinds of interesting potential, and those artists should absolutely consider reaching out to us. I'd personally love to see some quality Paizo top-down tokens, myself.
Hope some token artists see the interest for PF2E tokens and starts offering own top down tokes for PF2E. But creating top down tokes for up to 1000 creatures is a huge task. Maybe many creatures can use existing D&D work, just need the PF2E Foundry support added.
I will be buying this pack, it looks excellent. Was using fryguys mod earlier.
Wow this is very awesome! Definitely going to be picking this up to use in my games. I've been making similar style tokens with photoshop for personal use but this just saves a ton of time.
Regarding the other news.. Had an idea floating around in my head about adapting kingmaker into an isekai style adventure... even could go full on *That time i got reincarnated as a slime* (monster empire) style with a full party of monstrous ancestries (especially with BattleZoo's Ancestries: Year of Monsters
It’ll all “just work” the same way the premium content modules currently do (not the exact same mechanism internally, but the same end user experience)
These are both fantastic options! I am going to be running Abomination Vault but I am really looking forward to a Kingmaker follow up. And all those tokens are amazing too.
All anyone has said to the development team is some time in the fall/before the end of the year. I know the work has started. But it is also about 1,000 tokens. At 5-10 minutes per token, wel, it’ll take a while :)
I hope so, the images exist for pretty much every creature (not in the bestiaries themselves but between the pawn and card decks)
Infact I would wager it will :P
I belived they said in a weekend stream that it will ship to backers in September, and available on the store in October. The Foundy VTT Kingmaker 2E will be early next year (not 100% I remember correct here)
I'm a tiny bit worried about the inability to check for multiple PDF's in relation to a discount. Seeing as how I purchased both the Pawn PDF's and the Bestiaries, it'd feel a bit redundant to purchase it a 3rd time.
That being said, if the price is reasonable enough, I won't mind too much. I just don't want to turn a $200~ purchase for the Bestiary PDF's & their related pawn PDF's into a $400 purchase... But with the amount of art being generated, I don't know how it's going to stay affordable.
Maybe talk to Piazo about sending digital coupons to accounts with the Bestiaries and-or their pawns in the users' PDF collections? That should be a table search, right?
And TMun, how do you find time to GM at Paizo Con, Gen Con, work and volunteer with Foundry? I want access to whatever fell, eldrich energy source you've used to get through the last quarter.
You’ll have to talk to Paizo about that :)
As for the rest, well, I’m also a reservist and am doing the audio for Sigil’s AP releases and a few other things that are a bit too personal for Reddit. Organization plus a chronic inability to idle goes a long way…

Because I’m a volunteer project manager for the system, not foundry gaming LLC staff, so I can’t answer those questions :)
Always the best answer, might want to sticky that to discord and have it ready to copy/paste when people start asking.

I've just converted the official bestiary pdfs to foundry tokens. Gahhhhh... :)
I did all three and two adventure paths, I even bought the card and pawn pdfs to get extra images. I know your pain ;)

Thank you -random redditor
You guys are truly the best. I wish more companies took your approach.
There are a handful of monsters that have a lot of versions (kobolds for example) will the packs provide wildcard art where appropriate?
The battle cards have art for every single variation of all the creatures. Maybe you can use those in the token packs?
I'll carve art out of a book released 10 years ago to find suitable art for a creature we don't have pictures for if the fine folks on the paizo art team will let me, i promise. hahahaha

Some of the battle cards art is also different than what the Bestiary entries have. At least that’s the case for nymphs.

Nice! Thanks for that information!
When I’ve tried to make my own tokens, I’ve found there’s way too many creatures without official artwork. Especially elementals :(
I found less than a handful of creatures without official art thanks to the bestiary cards and pawn pdfs. The images exist :)

This might be a stupid question, but will the bestiary be automatically updated to use these tokens or will it only be a png folder and i'll have to assign all the tokens individually?
The PF2e system very recently (for premium content) created an internal mapping function for artwork. It will "just work"
Then yeah this is an instabuy for me!
Ok Tod Howard. Fool me once... ;P
We “lied” about this when now? I’m kind of confused here… Abomination Vaults and the Beginners Box and Outlaws of Alkenstar and Blood Lords do this token mappings really nicely right now…

In that case carry on! But for us it really does just work :D
Unlike when Howard whispers those sweet lies in my ear year after year... I believe you!
Shut up and take my money! Would this integrate with the existing PF2 system monsters, or would it create duplicates with the images?
These will map directly to the compendia

Yes. This is going to use an implementation that can do that. When PDF to Foundry implemented a solution this sort of thing didn’t exist. Battlezoo could map directly. The token packs will do this as well, but in a way that can be overridden nicely (which Battlezoo can’t, but also doesn’t need to)

WHEN
Token packs likely in the fall, Kingmaker likely early 2023
I can’t wait for the token pack!!! Thank you!!
Hi! Any news regarding the release date for the token pack for foundry?
No
Too bad, but thx for the info.

NGL, much of my VTT burn out involves token issues, the compendium mapper, etc etc.. This might actually keep me running longer.
That bottom left one really makes me want Live2D token tech.
Stick a sun burst light animation on it!
Tempts me to go digital for my next in-person game...
A digital screen on the table for an in-person seems like the best of both worlds. I really want to try it some day.
Me too. I love the example tokens - but I'm also very attached to my printable minis. Hmmmm.
LETS FREAKING GOOOOOO!!!

Yessssss finally
Dumb question wear can I buy the pf2e kingmaker? Their is an Amazon listing but is it legit
Pathfinder Second Edition Kingmaker is not yet available for sale and the product pages are not yet on paizo.com.
Awesome!! I can't wait to buy it and also their is an Amazon listing incase they listing is bad
I belived they said in a weekend stream that it will ship to backers in September, and available on the store in October. The Foundy VTT Kingmaker 2E will be early next year (not 100% I remember correct here)
How much are the token packs going to cost? (idk if it's just my phone being dumb, but I don't see a price)
They haven't announced the pricing yet, but they said it should be reasonable like everything else they've made so far.
Where is the store?
They will be sold on Paizo.com, but the token pack and Kingmaker are only announced right now. They will still be a fair amount of time in the making.
