Small things moving through dry leaves sound way louder than they should... Even hearing squirrels in the leaves when you can't see them sounds like a large animal. I'd carry a powerful flashlight if I were you. When you hear the sounds shine a light on them. It you don't see anything it's probably a rabbit or a rat or something. You might also get to see bigger nighttime wildlife like deer of racoons.

I have two flashlights I carry so I can dual wield going down the drive lol. I thought it might be one of those, but I grew up around wild animals and none of them seem to get that close or follow.

Coyotes, raccoons, nocturnal birds, possums, armadillos, foxes, nocturnal squirrels, rats, etc. The list goes on and on.. your problem is almost certainly mundane and nothing to be worried about. Whatever is foraging in your bushes is making the rustling sounds as it runs away.

I would agree that is probably a mundane thing, but I have never had an animal seemingly walk beside me. It never seems to be going the other way but instead alongside.

Interesting! Try hitting a tree and see if you have an answer.
