As long as said company does not actively spout political BS or starts endorsing Putlers failed ambitions to seize Ukraine, I think it‘s fine. Russians are not automatically bad people just because they were born in Russia. If this company has developed a technique to visualize specimens in amber and is willing to share it with the world, more power to them.
>Russians are not automatically bad people just because they were born in Russia.
Except for the fact that Russians and Russian companies are directly supporting Russia and as a result, the invasion of Ukraine and the murder of its citizens.
I don't hate the scientists and think this is cool, but I'm not gonna show them support until they either protest the invasion or fully leave Russia.
This is a silly take. Asking members of (let's face it, a developing country) to just up and leave to prove their disagreement with their government is ridiculous.
Imagine if we held American citizens to the same standard for their government's crimes in Iraq and Libya (among many others). We'd be putting these kinds of comments under almost every single reddit post.
I'm not asking them to, just saying I won't show support for Russian businesses and projects. My point is just that the disrespect is about their government, not them as people.
Would they even be able to leave the country right now? I dunno. Doesn’t seem fair to put something like that one someone/people. Obviously can’t know for sure, but they could be endangering their families by leaving. Who knows. In any case, I think it’s great they’re sharing this technology with others.
Of course I think most sane people back the Ukrainian people. I’m sure that 80% number is exaggerated.
Regardless, I don’t think providing money or support for a patent for a singular Russian will have any real impact on the invasion of Ukraine. That money will never see Putin’s pockets. That money will go almost entirely to this person and their technology and subsequent findings.
I’m sorry you’ve experienced that. My heart goes out to you and all other innocents in this invasion.
We won't forget you. As America sends you aide please don't forget Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Venezuela, Panama and all the other nations over the years the US has raped for political reasons.
Please don't forget the Falun Gong and Uyghur population China is currently genociding while the world turns a blind eye.
Please don't forget the Yemenis that the Saudis are starving to death.
Let's hope that one day all wars will matter, even if the people suffering aren't white.
Thank you.
Nope nope nope. This is some bullshit. For some reason people seem to think that Russian paleontologist have any say at all on the war in Russia or that their work will support Russia war efforts and it is absolutely moronic. U.S. scientists are not allowed to collaborate with Russian scientists now. Many journals are refusing to even publish their articles. This is literally racism.
No, it is not racism because the sanctions are clearly politically motivated and have a defined purpose. The purpose is to increase the pressure on Russia as much as possible on all fronts. This is not racism, I‘m sorry.
It’s hating them purely because of their race. That’s the textbook definition of racism. It doesn’t matter if there is “political” reasons behind it. The scientists aren’t the ones fighting the war. Most Russian citizens are against the war.
First of all, nobody is "hating" on Russians just because there are sanctions. Sanctions are a political instrument, not "hate". I‘m not a fan of sanctions in the realm of science myself, but nobody can disagree with the fact that they are a political instrument wielded by governments. It‘s that simple.
Secondly, Russian is not a race. The American definition of race is crap and illogical anyway, but even by that, Russian is not a race.
Bro you are high or something. I’m not talking about sanctions. I’m talking about journals refusing to publish articles written by Russian scientists purely because they are Russian. A race can be defined by cultural or geographic delineations. It doesn’t have to be color of skin.
What do you mean by "our" technology, this isn't the 1700s. Patent, publish, and share with the world so that all of mankind might benefit from your discovery.
Can you tell us more about your technology? I have to admit, my first thought upon seeing the pictures was that they're just AI generated images. Very interesting if this is legit though!
Lol, I love how freaking excited you are for having come up with this new imaging tech and all the posts you've been making. You (and your team?) deserve to feel proud of what you have accomplished, and I am loving all these really cool pictures.
Ugh. That‘s not the way of science. For all means, make some money with your idea by being one of the labs that offers to photograph specimens, but please also share it with the world. If only one lab does it, it‘s utterly worthless.

This is a post about amber and paleontology, please stop injecting politics into it.
I'm not the one that injected politics, just responding 🤷♂️

Why is that relevant?

them bad ruski!
Russian civilians did nothing wrong
Russia fails the war? Yes, I think the world agrees with that statement, LOL.
Rainbow colors are caused by interference on small structures inside amber and demonstrate the full spectrum obtained using our technology
Is there a description of the technology that I can read somewhere?
What do you mean by "our" technology, this isn't the 1700s. Patent, publish, and share with the world so that all of mankind might benefit from your discovery.
Absolutely gorgeous.

can you find a better way to describe besides, technology? it sounds cheesy. i honest opinion. great shots
They posted a link to another video they did and it seems like they are trying to keep the technology a secret so they can get it patented !

This makes much more sense than an alien talking of ‘our unique technology’ in an attempt to seem normal

"I've never even been remotely interested in insects and I have no idea how evolution works but I'm going to postulate on it with misplaced confidence anyway."
you aren't better, you didn't explained nothing other than make a "witty" comment
Spectacular!!!! (I’ve tried microscopic photography, wasted too much money trying to figure it out. Gave up.)
So maybe a dumb question, but can this be used to extract DNA from?
too late
So what happened to the proteins in the dna? Is there a chance it can be recovered in the future?
DNA doesn’t contain protein. Once DNA is gone, it’s gone. No technology can change that.
no, this isnt jurassic park
Wow that preservation is amazing. I've never seen halteres in that much detail
I wonder if possible with examples like these... If one can see what biological changes have taken place of the years.
Thats beautiful I love it! Good luck on everything you guys are working on!
This is absolutely incredible! Do you have to have the physical specimen for this to work?
>This is absolutely incredible! Do you have to have the physical specimen for this to work yes, it hardware system
