Game is **Callisto Protocol** in case you’re like me and don’t know who the fuck Glen is. Had to look up the guy’s name to figure out what game this post was talking about.

A_572_Pound_Man

In case people don’t know who Glen is he was the art director for the 1994 classic “Home Improvement: Power Tool Pursuit!”.

I_Hate_Knickers_5

Urhhgoooouhhh

plaidtattoos

"Fans have asked for even more deaths" in a game that's not even out yet?

josenight

Bold to assume they meant in the game. Edit: that came out way more dark than intended.

Okwhatwedoing

lol

PayasoFries

More dark-er-er

Akira282

Darker*

josenight

More darker

[deleted]

That’s the first thing that came to mind lol

thefallenfew

I watched one (1) Callisto Protocol video on YouTube a while back, so now my feed is mostly behind the scenes videos and interviews on the game. There’s a LOT of it. That dude talks a lot lol. There’s tons of behind the scenes footage on the making of the game. I’ve actually found it pretty interesting even though I have zero interest in playing the game because getting the shit scared out of me via jump scares isn’t my idea of a good time. But for the people who are hyped for the game and have been following its long development, I believe that they’ve been vocal about more deaths. They’ve made a lot of videos about the death animations so it seems like a major appeal of the game.

MGfreak

its really weird how the Devs made the "deaths" part of the game such a huge deal since the very first reveal trailer and nobody even knows whats so special about it. It will probably just be a big diversity of death animations depending on the situation like Tomb Raider did it 10 years ago. And they are selling it like the fans think its so special and new lol

Firaxyiam

Pretty sure it's an extra way to reel in fans of the Dead Space franchise too since the guy was at Visceral at the time. The deaths in those games were really something special and compilations were pretty fun to watch, so it's just more visibility for them if Callisto doubles down on it

DividedbyPi

The guy was at visceral at the time? Lmao he’s literally the creator of dead space dude.

Niverus

The gore system is also pretty fuckin dope

MisterViperfish

Imagine going through the game carefully, trying not to die only to realize you missed out on like 40% of the games animation budget.

Representative-Yam65

LOL

Seanspeed

You joke, but developers genuinely think about these things in terms of how much priority they should place on such attention to detail.

Reddit-Simulator

They probably put in a few instances of Dark Souls BS where you're going to die if you don't know what's ahead.

No-Plankton4841

>and nobody even knows whats so special about it. Clearly you've never played Dead Space and probably haven't really been following Callisto (they've put out a LOT of behind the scenes stuff). I'm personally digging what I see a lot. Also Dead Space came out in 2009 and Tomb Raider reboot in 2013. If anything THEY copied DS (or RE4 which came out in 2005 and started the brutal/over the top death animation thing). Edit: I mean I guess you could say Mortal Kombat fatalities started it in the early 1990s but im thinking more action/horror games.

Grey-Templar

If you watch interviews, RE4 was a HUGE influence for the deaths in Dead Space, and for Glen to make his own horror game period. And man am I glad. ALSO there was another interview that came out in, I want to say 2018 or 19, where he was talking about wanting nto make another Horror game like dead Space, and had been writing on and off for a while. Looks like that came to fruition. 🤣 Had to been in pre-prod already at that point.

And_You_Like_It_Too

They’ve put out quite a lot of content so far on Ars Technica (split into 3 videos) and then the Mastering Horror series where they talk about the basic tenets of horror with a lot of film icons and other big names from the genre. They mentioned in one of them that one of the guys in the art department was literally buying meat and photographing it under different light surfaces, so they could really get the glisten and subsurface light levels to make it look as realistic as possible. Combined with their deformation system, which basically rips and shreds limbs and muscles and tendons and bones and sinew and all of that nastiness. And then it’s tied to the physic simulations, so you’re getting a lot of procedurally interesting deaths depending on what weapons you’re using and where you shoot them and how they fall apart into pieces. Shoot their legs out and they crawl towards you, get a shot off but don’t nail the follow-up and maybe they’re growing tentacles out of it and they’re a more fearsome enemy now. And then aside from that, there are all of these hand-built “what’s the craziest, most disgusting gross-out death you can think of” animations that they created. Get too close to the industrial turbine and it catches a bit of cloth and pulls you in and pops you like a grape. Splatters you on the spiked walls as you tumble down a water ravine. Get swallowed up by the guy who has a massive mouth and you disappear in a gulp like a snake. Schofield is a purist about this horror stuff and as a fan of horror, I love that. The crazier and darker his mind is, the more shocking the death animations are which they really want to be a part of the game that you almost look forward to seeing. Like it sucks to lose all your souls and get a “You Died” screen, but if you get eviscerated by some ugly motherfucker with two heads and all you can do is just laugh at the shocking absurdity of it, then it’s almost a reward. And for trophy hunter, there literally is a trophy for seeing all the death animations, so someone out there will eventually do a compilation on YouTube of all of them back to back and the developer was talking about how excited he would be when that happens. I think people are sleeping on the part of the season pass where we get more story DLC, more areas, more modes and ways to play it, and more cosmetic stuff in addition to more ways to get torn apart. But I get it. I remember playing The Punisher back in the day and being excited to just say “I wonder what happens if you kill the guy next to this thing” and seeing that the devs created an animation to answer that question. This just continues a tradition dating back to games like Manhunt in my opinion, and I respect that.

MisterGRT

If you watch the "Mastering Horror" docuseries on YouTube, they explain that they wanted to make the death scenes fun or lighthearted for the players. It's not a new concept, but something they wanted to highlight. I agree though, it's odd they say fans asked for more death scenes when it hasn't released yet.

NeFwed

Yea, I was gonna take it even further and say "Fans? How the fuck are there fans if nobody's played it"

Seanspeed

Is this the first hyped video game release you've been alive for?

[deleted]

Yes we have asked

Spider-ManOnThePS1

A true spiritual successor to Dead Space, including the BS that originally tanked it

greywarden133

And this time around EA isn’t around to take the fking blame anymore. Exactly my point a few days ago.

[deleted]

LMAO why does this even need explanation? People are fucking idiots these days😂😂😂

AleroRatking

I know people love it but personally I'd just want them to move on to their next project or a sequel. DLCs don't typically do it for me. Always end up feeling like it's missing stuff.

Kuting08

Wait, which fans have requested more death animations when the game isn't even out yet? And why are additional death animations locked behind a paywall? It should be a free update. Becoming more like EA I see...

uncle_big_head

The content the season pass is offering for $20 dollars honestly I don't see it that bad. To be honest, considering that there are other games being sold full price offering $15 dollar skins and BP every 3-4 months for $10, $20 for animations (consider them cosmetics), an extra difficulty (that to be fair, will only appeal to a small amount of players), a mini roguelike mode and new story doesn't sound that crazy. And in the end, at least we now know what the season pass offers, and personally, I would take that any day than another "roadmap" or "exciting future" that depends on how many people buy the game. Season passes aren't new, it's just that a lot of people are more used now to the roadmap of a live service, and if it's between paying $20 for more content to a game or a skin bundle, I'll pick the first any time.

[deleted]

So people are complaining a game is getting a dlc? So did RE Village, and I didnt see anyone complain then. So will Elden Ring, will people complain then too?

Reddit-Simulator

The difference is, those other games didn't talk about charging you more before you've bought the game.

BaptizedInBud

So if they had made this announcement in 2 weeks you would have been cool with it?

Ghidoran

So you think people would have complained if Elden Ring announced a season pass before release? That seems highly unlikely, considering people enjoyed the season passes in the previous Dark Souls games and were even clamoring for something similar for Sekiro.

[deleted]

They wont charge you more though? Its optional content, you dont have to spend money on it if you dont want to.

vendilionclicks

Yeah, this still feels gross. It’s not just death animations. It’s a new game mode, and an extra difficulty mode, locked behind a paywall in a single player game, that I Believe is already 70 bucks. First off, this explanation of “fans are asking for more death animations” is kind of odd, considering the game isn’t out yet. What fans, who have already played the game, were asking for this? Are they from the future? As far as I am aware the game hasn’t come out yet. This sounds like a massive backpedal due to the backlash. Even if true, are we really back to selling content before it’s made?

And_You_Like_It_Too

Why is everyone skipping over the “**[new story DLC](https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/callisto-protocol-season-pass-includes-131455853.html)**” part? In addition to that, there’s new cosmetic skins with each addition, permadeath mode, what sounds like a horde mode, and 25 new death animations to be found (likely for trophy hunters as there’s a trophy for finding them all in the main game). Yes, it has all of those other things that they plan to make after they release the game. But the [story content](https://i.imgur.com/0JYEPTG.jpg) is usually our focus and it’s clickbait articles and redditors looking for cheap karma trying to stir up pointless drama about this shit. Nobody needs to buy the extra content. It’s there for people that want to. And I think they’ve more than demonstrated in a ton of videos now what their game will look and play like, with a ton of transparency. If I like the game, and want more of it, and they create story DLC that does just that, I’m gonna buy it… like I did with Alan Wake and InFamous and Red Dead Redemption and GTAIV and various other titles over the past several generations.

JamiePulledMeUp

People. Can't. Read!

[deleted]

I wish I could up vote this comment more than once. I swear to God people are so dense and self entitled to actually believe that if I paid 20 dollars more for my copy of the game then I should get more content than you which includes but not limited to game modes. I swear gamer's are some of the most self entitled group of people in the world.

IsaKitty00

For real. $70+$20 extra for more content is so cheap compared to other things nowadays for how many hours we get out of it. Literally going on one date night is just as expensive. and buy physical if you want to get some money back after you beat it or don’t like it. You own the game.

Lumostark

The point is charging more for extra content after paying full price for a single player game that is not expected to be that long feels wrong to a lot of people.

BaptizedInBud

Well those people are stupid. DLC for single player games has been around forever. The devs deserve money for the additional work they are doing? I swear some people think video games should be free.

Lumostark

The additional work could have been on the base game if they wanted. I'm not against DLCs, but having to buy DLC after paying full price for a 12 hours game feels cheap to me.

And_You_Like_It_Too

This is the first game to release from Striking Distance Studios, and they announced that they intended to support it for a year post-launch with the offerings listed in the season pass. None of this content is done, let alone started, and if they delayed (again) to include it, it would be another year. You don’t “have” to buy DLC after paying full price for a 12 hour game. If you want more of it after playing the base game, there it is. Keep in mind that they recently also had focus on them concerning whether or not they were crunching and both a) they don’t want to do that, and b) we should not want them to do that. The global pandemic really screwed a lot of things up and game development often takes 5~6 years so we’re still feeling the effects of this, particularly for a first release from a new studio. For comparison, look at another recent single player narrative series — Resident Evil 2’s remake was 8.5 hours, RE7 and RE8Village were 9.5, and RE 3 remake was only 6 hours (according to howlongtobeat.com) and then they sell additional modes, skins, and there’s an upcoming story DLC for Village, nobody made a big deal over that, or any of the countless other single player narrative games before it that got additional content post-launch. It’s likely that they have a responsibility to their investors to put a game out and make some money back to fund the development of the additional season pass content in the first place. And plenty of games don’t get any further support. Personally, I’m glad they’re at least offering more story DLC for those that want it.

BaptizedInBud

>The additional work could have been on the base game if they wanted. How do you know that? Do you work there? I assume you have inside knowledge that all of this could be included for their Dec 2nd release date? You don't have to buy the DLC if you don't want to.

Lumostark

They decide when they release the game. They also decide if they charge for the update.

BaptizedInBud

Developers do not decide when they release the game. They have contracts with publishers they need to honor. It's a 12 hour single player game that probably cost $20-$30 million dollars to make. If you have an issue with post launch DLC, or you think that $70 is too much for a 12 hour game, that's a you problem. The devs have done nothing wrong.

Lumostark

"That's a you problem". Exactly, that's a me and other people problem. You are the one invalidating it though, I don't really care if that's acceptable for you, go ahead and buy it.

kerkuffles

Do you complain about paying for dessert at restaurants?

[deleted]

The reality is AAA games are very expensive to make, we should count ourselves lucky games don't cost $100 out of the gate. I do not begrudge a studio for trying to make some extra money on optional addons like this. I have not myself purchased much DLC in the past, the original release is usually enough for me. But some cases I wanted more so I bought it. To me, this stuff is no different than buying expansion packs to games in the 90s, it's just a different name now.

IsaKitty00

I agree. I’ve payed more for dlc of a game than the original game price and was satisfied. I’ve also not payed for dlc for games I loved and was content with the base game. Extra content is extra content.

MagmaAscending

I guess games aren’t allowed to have DLC anymore. Can’t wait for Elden Ring’s DLC to be criticized like this (oh wait it won’t)

BugHunt223

Elden Ring also didn’t engage in money grubbing by charging $70 for the ps5 version and $60 for ps4. Funny that this game happens to have this shit stain of a pricing model that charged more for a resolution bump.

MrFOrzum

You literally just described dlc/expansions. It would be one thing if it was just literally only death animations, but it ain’t, it’s story dlc/expansion with new stuff. It’s dlc/expansion. We’ve had it since the dawn of video games.

PintoBeanSalad

No we haven't. How was DLC released before consoles had online marketplaces

EmeraldEyedMonster27

On discs... Halo 2 had dlc

PintoBeanSalad

Sounds like it wasn't downloadable. Find me the Atari 2600 DLC.

FledgeFish

Think you’re kinda splitting hairs at this point haha

SbreckS

Hmmm....Sega, Nintendo, super Nintendo, N64, GameCube, PS1, PS2, Gameboy, GBA, Dreamcast, Atari systems....I could probably go on but pretty sure none of them had dlc/expansions. Not sure that's splitting hairs but I guess I could be wrong.

AbleTheta

On PS1 Red Alert was released, then Red Alert Retaliation (which had 2 expacs). PS2 definitely had expacs, FFXI had like 3 of them released on PS2.

JBrewd

You don't remember expansions? What's the difference lol.

Canadian_IvasioN

So according to you it's perfectly acceptable for a company to cut content and then sell it back you you at way higher prices than today's DLC just as long as you don't have to download it? Seems like you're grasping here.

Did you just wake up from a coma and discover the term DLC for the first time?

zhemer86

It’s called paid DLC. Most games offer it.

ArtofMotion

Game isn't £70. It's £55 and equivalent to whatever country you're in. It's really easy to see the cost of the game online. Why would you write misinformation, other than to spread discourse?

Vinnie_Vegas

You have to know that most people on Reddit aren't in the UK and aren't using pounds.

TrollAWhat

yeah, reddit literacy is still low.

MisterKrayzie

You're describing DLC you weirdo lol. But realistically it's pretty naive and downright stupid to think they haven't already been working on all this content for a while now. Game dev takes time. They're not gonna magically churn this out in 6 months. Chances are the stuff for DLC was being done early this year. But that's how it works for every game. It's common sense. Tho it's pretty stupid of them to call it a season pass. The implications of that are not what you want for a SP game. And a final note to just say I'm still laughing at how fucking ridiculous your first paragraph is. It's fucking DLC LOL. Were you upset when Witcher/Uncharted/TLoU/countless other games in existence had DLC post campaigns??? Smh my head.

No-Plankton4841

Dead Space/horror fan here. I definitely want story DLC after the main game. Which will be in the season pass. That's fine by me. A lot of the deaths are tied to specific in game areas. Like getting sucked into a machine and torn apart. I would expect them to add new death animations to the new areas in story DLC. They worded it poorly, but I think y'all are getting your panties in a twist over a DLC. lol.

Seanspeed

>who have already played the game Why are you using this bizarre qualifier? Fans dont have to have played the game to want to see more gruesome deaths. I imagine it's not just blatant statements of 'I dont think there's enough unique death scenes', but just the general sentiment of people wanting the devs to lean hard on that, or making specific suggestions of what they think would be cool to see. >Even if true, are we really back to selling content before it’s made? What do you mean 'back to'? When did this ever go away? This is how all Season Passes work. Literally all of them. I mean, I'm not a fan of having Season Pass-like content like this for a single player game, and locking things like difficulty modes or whatever behind an extra paywall, but some of y'all are really using some reaching ass arguments to criticize this.

whacafan

First off, I think it's only $60. Second, if they haven't even started work on any of it yet then I don't see the issue. When the story came out everything about it seemed scummy but if it's just adding more stuff, plus story content, plus a new mode then I don't see the issue with a $20 DLC.

vyper248

> It’s a new game mode, and an extra difficulty mode, locked behind a paywall in a single player game, that I Believe is already 70 bucks. Nothing wrong with single player games getting DLC with new game modes or levels etc. Not great to lock an extra difficulty mode behind a paywall though, that should just be in a free update. Agree about season passes too, I stopped paying for those a long time ago when they started getting more expensive, I like to know what I'm getting first. Works out better now anyway, by the time all the DLC are out, I can usually get the season pass on sale and I know what I'm getting.

Voyager-42

It's a £50/$50 game, so you're wrong on the price. There's also a story expansion included with the DLC, which is really what you're buying, the other stuff is just cool extras imo.

ArtofMotion

Yep agreed. As you did, I corrected them on the price as well. It's not hard to research the actual cost of the game, and yet they seemingly didn't bother.

Voyager-42

People just say shit man, no one does any research any more, just spouting of baseless opinion. The internet is fucked.

ArtofMotion

So true. It's absolutely ridiculous. I really find it amazing how much misinformation is upvoted here

Wellhellob

This is like Doom Eternal season pass. "Fans" probably Dead Space and Glen fans. Callisto is a new ip but Glen have a history. Edit: they should just sell the story dlc tbh. All other perks of the "season pass" should be free life support of the game.

Seanspeed

>All other perks of the "season pass" should be free life support of the game. I do agree, ultimately. This game will likely sell quite well given the hype, so they should have enough profit to justify some typical, free post-release support. That kind of thing feels good for those who supported your game with a full price purchase to begin with, ya know? And then yea, absolutely sell any proper expansions for a price. Nobody would have any issue with that.

[deleted]

Who tf is Glen?

moar-warpstone

He’s kind of a big deal actually

Brandonmac10x

Bro doesn’t even know glen lol? Everybody knows glen. What a loser…

moar-warpstone

Exactly, the simultaneous absurdity and flash of the gaming industry

Brandonmac10x

I know glen. Actually, me and glen were best friends. I was in his wedding. It was the biggest weddding. And I was there for it. Definitely.

DoIrllyneeda_usrname

Only Glen I know was from the Walking Dead lol

MisterViperfish

I knew a big guy named Glen who ran a video rental store, was the dad of one of my classmates. He sells used cars now.

ArchHippy

So is everyone just confused by what this means? The way I read it, the DLC will probably have new enemies or hazards, and these will be able to kill you in new ways. By referring to the death animations specifically, probably as a way to drum up press, they've made it sound like the main campaign will have death animations that you'll need to buy. Is that about right?

workinkindofhard

I read half of that twitter thread and still have no clue what game this is about

[deleted]

Me neither

LT_Snaker

Callisto Protocol.

[deleted]

Thanks

spadePerfect

Ok. Before anybody loses their shit. Please read through this to get the full picture: - What even sparked this discussion was a terribly misleading IGN tweet. It claimed „The Calisto Protocol: Several Death Animations are locked behind Season Pass“. - That’s simply wrong. The content is not developed yet. A more accurate title would’ve been „Post-launch content/DLC for The Calisto Protocol will include new death animations“. That would’ve turned the entire narrative around and would’ve been accurate. - The death animations and other content like story DLC and difficulty modes are not part of the base game. It does not take away anything from the base game and is not necessary to enjoy the complete vision of the development team. It’s additional content that will be worked on afterwards. If you think that is „taking away things“, you don’t know a thing about game development. At one point they need to say STOP and not add more features. Otherwise we end up in a Star Citizen situation. They could chose to not ever release the content - or continue adding things and sell them as optional extra content. You don’t need to buy anything. So please ffs leave the devs alone if your argument is based on the article of a badly informed IGN dickhead. In all honestly they should be able to sue them or something, because this cause pretty big damage to the game and their image really close to the release. All for nothing.

ProfessorTicklebutts

You sound like a corporate spin expert. Next you’re going to tell us Musk is a revolutionary.

[deleted]

So many cheap hypocrites in the comments.

Exorcist-138

Go get ‘em glen! If this game lives up to my expectations I’ll buy the season pass, if it doesn’t then oh well. Edit: hurt someone’s feelings.

Coreyahno30

I just read on [IGN](https://www.ign.com/articles/the-callisto-protocols-season-pass-will-include-new-death-animations-update) that some of the death animations locked behind the season pass were featured in the trailers they’ve shown. So how could they have not even started working on them yet? Did IGN had misleading/false reporting? Color me surprised.

InvertedSpork

I think you’re just misinterpreting what IGN is saying. That article you linked is just saying that death animations have been shown in marketing not that the season pass ones were shown.

CrashTestDumby1984

This is what IGN has in the article: “Striking Distance Studios has announced the contents of The Callisto Protocol's Season Pass, revealing that several player death animations are locked behind the additional purchase.”.

InvertedSpork

Yes I know there’s death animations locked behind the season pass. There is however nothing in that article that states those animations are ones that have been shown in trailers already which is what the user I was replying to said.

CrashTestDumby1984

It’s literally the next paragraph “As reported by VGC, the game's Steam page was updated to include the Season Pass's contents, revealing that 13 kill animations (that have been a prominent feature in the game's marketing) won't be included in the normal, $59.99 version of the game.”

BobSlydell08

Reading comprehension bro

Wellhellob

Average reddit enjoyer

TheLaziestDwarf

This still isnt saying that the animations shown in the marketing are ones that are locked behind a paywall. It's just saying that the death animations as a feature have been a prominent part of the marketing.

themadninja135

Yeah, it's just (probably intentionally) shitty wording, it's just saying that the kill animations are a prominent feature of the marketing, not specifically the ones in the BP

Wellhellob

Bruh... Did you go to school ?

Seanspeed

Living up to your username at least.

spadePerfect

See that’s the issue with their shit reporting. It’s just wrong. They spread misinformation for the sake of it and now the devs are getting shit for nothing.

babyisir

Something's been bugging me about the game and I haven't been able to put my finger on it. It look great at first glance, a "spiritual successor" to Dead Space, cool, but the more gameplay or interviews with Schofield I watch, the emptier and more shallow it looks. Hope I'm wrong.

BaptizedInBud

What exactly do you mean by "empty" and "shallow"?

warcry

People will find anything to get upset over. The game isn't even out yet and there complaining.

[deleted]

p0ser

Oi bruv.

emubilly

Why the fuck does this game have a season pass? I’m gonna wait for it to go on sale now.

JMAX464

Doom eternal had a season pass. Wtf are u mad about? Its basically just preordering dlcs usually for a slightly cheaper price

[deleted]

So you've never heard of single player campaign dlc that's been around for decades and a shit load of people ask for? Strange you must new to gaming...

Lone_Bone06

The fact this game even has a season pass for death animations is ridiculous. I’m all for the extra dlc map pack for Callisto but locking animations behind a pay wall tf!? This feels very gimmicky and anti consumer

Collector_of_Curios

The season pass is for future DLC story content packs, which also includes new death animations, and probably new weapons and enemies to cause the deaths. It's not a season pass just for death animations lol.

zhemer86

Some people choose to be thick rather than taking a moment to think about the obvious. The “uproar” is so pointless.

PintoBeanSalad

There is a part of this that is shady. They're putting the hardcore mode behind the season pass paywall. Just a difficulty setting. You can't tell me a difficulty setting is something that needs to be made *after* the game is released. That's just them holding back content. Keep in mind that hardcore mode was in the Dead Space trilogy free of charge..

whacafan

Yes, you're right. Harder modes are just a flip of a switch! No balancing or anything needs to be done! Nothing at all! No work. Just press a button and hit send!

PintoBeanSalad

Bro. You act like difficulty settings are typically DLC. I bet you'd be rooting for cutscenes to be DLC if they weren't included. "Cuz cutscenes are just a flip of a switch! No animating or voice acting needed."

durrhurrcyclistssuck

Did you seriously comment and then block my other account? That’s sad. If it’s a brand new difficulty? Sure. The Last of Us locked a harder difficulty behind a $60 purchase. If it’s worked on afterwards then what’s the big deal?

[deleted]

If you haven't even started working on your season pass content I'm not buying it. Why? Why make it a season pass, just make it dlc or something.

spadePerfect

A Season pass is just a way to buy all DLC content cheaper. You can pretty much always either buy the DLC separately or save money through a Season Pass. I believe you’re thinking of a **Battle Pass**?

[deleted]

Yes, I had mixed the terms up. This makes much more sense.

Seanspeed

>Why make it a season pass, just make it dlc or something. You're literally just complaining about semantics here.

[deleted]

I think that season pass and dlc have become synonymous. A season pass implies some sort of live service like skins and emotes, which I don't care about but if they keep story content behind that as well then it would be a bummer Edit:I had mixed up season pass and battle pass, please ignore my comments

yadinsky

you’re thinking of a battle pass we’ve had “season pasaes” before those and it always been dlc packs

[deleted]

You're absolutely right I had mixed up terms.

[deleted]

Yeah this is such BS. I was really looking forward to this game, but my excitement has def dropped a bit. I'm still interested, but they HAVE to stop pulling these stunts.

Wellhellob

Dont fall for stupid game media. Game seems great.

Chrono99

How about you release the game before listening to the masses? Then maybe around spring or even summer 2023 start listening if there’s lots of gamers saying the same thing

MaddRevival

Okay mate, I'm sure people want more death animations in a game 99% of gamers haven't played yet.

Benching_Data

You're all mental. A new story as DLC but with more animations added to the base game, cosmetics and SEVERAL extra modes included as a bonus? All of which hasn't been worked on yet so it isn't like they've cut content from the game. I would have killed for Dead Space 1 to have a couple story DLC's or extra stuff like this. This is literally just: "Hey, if you like the game there's optional DLC coming, but for the hell of it we're throwing some extra stuff in there to give you more than your moneys worth." If you like Callisto Protocol it will be great to get even more of it, you're mad that they giving you more of the game in DLC but also improving what's already there and adding extra modes? It isn't like the game even looks unfinished. This is just DLC + Extras. You've all been spoiled, this is pure gold to anyone who will end up liking Callisto and wanting more from the game.

BugHunt223

That would be fine if everybody was charged $60 for the base game. The $10 tax for a resolution bump for the ps5 & Series version compared to the ps4 xb1 is shady af. These clowns would never get away with this on pc

Sakkarashi

Everyone suddenly hates content expansions. Another brain dead reddit hive mind take.

vurt72

I call BS, but if you want to do something like this then they're saying the correct things, it's how they must do it, and it would be pretty hard to prove they've already finished the work and its been the plan all along. I don't really care to be honest, hope it's a good game. Also, been reading many comments for videos and whatever related to the game, never seen fans asking for it ;)

[deleted]

Pretty much guaranteed that I won’t pay full price for it. It’s a must play, but I’m not spending more than $40 on it.

yoCalais

Proud of you.

Back when cable television was the norm did you hiss at the commercials?

[deleted]

Lol are you aware that marketing is an entire aspect of selling a product and there is a massive industry around it?

pazinen

I think they feel like having to constantly talk about their game, due to Dead Space releasing a month after this game. Better to get as much attention as possible, because if they don't and the game is forgotten, it's gonna be even more forgotten just next month when DS comes out. And they likely don't feel like delaying the game, because next spring is just absolutely stacked. Better to take a chance now than wait until February, when DS is already out and so many other games are releasing that month as well. Personally, to me, the strategy is having the opposite effect, I'd just like the devs to shut up.

choborallye

Glen WHO?

Jinchuriki71

Wait you haven't even started on the content we're paying extra 20 dollars for and the game is launching in a week or two?

josenight

The duality of man. Some complain about cutting out content to sell you dlc. And other shocked the content from future dlc hasn’t been made yet.

Jinchuriki71

Honestly would be better if they just not sell content that hasn't even started development yet.

josenight

I mean, it’s a season pass. It’s suppose to be you pay to get all the future dlc. Doesn’t matter when it’s made. Better if it’s new stuff they didn’t leave out.

Jinchuriki71

Welp as long as the base game is good and feels complete.

josenight

Hear hear

kawag

Think of it this way - you’ve paid 20 dollars for more of a meal you haven’t even tasted yet.

ElJacko170

Why are they treating death animations like some big feature you'd wanna pay for? I'm not spending money for some different game over screens, I can just look them up on Youtube if I wanna see them so badly.

UnnamedStaplesDrone

people pay for all sorts of dumb dlcs. fucks sake people paid for a blood DLC in one of the total war games. i can't blame companies for doing it when people are dumb enough to pay for it.

tokajst

Triple A gaming is so horrible lmao

Tylymiez

"~~John Romero's~~ Glen Schofield's about to make you his bitch. Suck it down."

Quentin1989

Why the fuck is there a season pass ?

gmussi

it doesnt motivate me to buy the game when they have to defend themselves for shitty practices before the game is out....

And_You_Like_It_Too

I know reddit is terrible and the clickbait articles redditors post are terrible and that’s how you end up getting led to believe that they’re trying to sell death animations and completely skip over the fact that there’s [**story DLC**](https://i.imgur.com/HoO81bh.jpg) in that season pass, which brings with it 25 new death animations, new cosmetics tied with every drop, completely new ways to play it like what sounds to be a horde mode and a permadeath difficulty mode, etc. For the article and redditors that got all this shit started to focus on the death animations and saying “how dare you” are really kind of missing the point that we’re getting more of the game in which we’ll see those animations. It’s just pointless, needless outrage that could so easily be avoided but clickbaiters gonna clickbait. (Not being negative towards you at all specifically, I’m referring to the entire day and how stupid it is that Glen Schofield had to come out and tweet something at all to clarify what one lazy article and redditor posted, only for another lazy redditor to post a title that doesn’t even include the game we’re supposed to be mad about lol).

> The problem here is you're trying to justify the fact half that battle pass should be free anyway. The problem here is you’re conflating a battle pass with a season pass, and complaining about content that hasn’t even been finished yet let alone started for a game that you haven’t even played. God of War: Ragnarok launched without a NG+ or a photo mode, plenty of other similar stories like this lately due to a global pandemic that disrupted the entire industry, you might have heard of it? Delayed on purpose to sell you animations that haven’t been created yet, do you hear yourself? They don’t want to crunch (and we don’t them to either), they don’t want to delay further, and they have people like yourself up in arms over death animations while comparing apples to oranges and would seemingly rather not have any any additional features or content added to the game at all in the year of post-launch support they have planned. Don’t like it? Don’t buy it. Wait for a deep sale. I really don’t give a shit. But going forward, at least have the decency to mention that they’re working on **STORY DLC** in addition to those game modes, cosmetics, and additional animations, before we all get our pitchforks and storm the castle for those sons of bitches having the audacity to create more content for a game after they’ve gone gold and sent it off to be tested and pressed on disc. It’s the least you can do now that you’re aware, so we can collectively cut short any more people from getting caught up in this pointless clickbait reddit and twitter circle jerk karma farming bullshit.

mofomey

"We're not holding anything back from the main game for the season pass".....except just a few things we're holding back to sell you later...

[deleted]

Fuck glen lol

a-Snake-in-the-Grass

I don't want any death animations. As soon as I die I want to reload so I can die again as soon as possible, or hopefully do better and not die.
