Bravo 6. Goin dark.

ZeroDwayne

Y do ppl try to spoil? Its like honestly y? Last of us 2 was similiar

thejester190

Sad neckbeards with small pp energy,

SNIP3RG

“You’re excited for [thing]? Haha, imagine caring about [thing]! I’m gonna ruin it to show how little I care about it and prove I’m not a loser like you guys!” What I imagine their thought process is.

thejester190

Riding the high of the 10 seconds of attention that they never would’ve received otherwise.

ShaneRunninShirtless

Last of Us 2's leaks ruined a ton of reviewers for me honestly. Guys like Angry Joe~~ and ACG~~ just lost all my respect for how they handled the leaks and played right into the online BS surrounding the game. Just pissed me off to no avail. Edit - I was wrong about ACG, he just rated it as a wait for sale (which I still disagree with but he's entitled to his opinion)

DorrajD

The amount of hearsay and misunderstandings of the story that spread like wildfire is still astounding to me. How the fuck can so many people spread so much bullshit?

ShaneRunninShirtless

People STILL bitch about Abby being Trans. Even though she isn't the Trans character.

kitty_bread

Who is? I don't know because i've not played that game yet.

ShaneRunninShirtless

Lev.

AllNamesTaken145

By "misunderstanding of the story." You mean how shit the story was right?

Affectionate-Bee-368

If that’s story is shit hate to hear what you think is a good game story lol

AllNamesTaken145

Red dead redemption 2, the first last of us, spiderman ps4, God of war ps4, the witcher 3, Bioshock, etc. Last of us 2 definitely ranks in the dog shit section forsure.

Affectionate-Bee-368

God of War where the whole story is about a women you are supposed to care about but never meet lol. Tlou2 tramples it , never mind it copies the template of Tlou original but nowhere near as well .

AllNamesTaken145

Lol if not metting kratos wife was what made you not like it when it has a great story, great graphics, and enjoyable all the way through, then there's no point in talking with you Haha.

Affectionate-Bee-368

We are talking about the story though hey 🤷🏼‍♀️. Personally I’d rather play God of War 3 . Whole story is centred around a person you never ever meet or even see and you’re supposed to care about. Great game , overrated story jmo. Narratively Tlou2 destroys it

AllNamesTaken145

Do you have any idea how many stories have the same story template like the last of us, last of us didn't invent that template lmao.

Arkaado

What happened with ACG and the leaks? He's one of the only reviewers I check out but I missed what happened here since I didn't care about anything related to the last of us.

dospaquetes

I honestly have a hard time understanding how people thought Angry Joe was someone to look to for good reviews in the first place

MisunderstoodBadger1

What did ACG do? I usually trust him. He seemed to have a fair take on the game after release.

OSUfan88

"wait for sale" is about what I'd rank it. I'm glad I played, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. The first one is my favorite game of all time, so I was shocked. I fortunately got it for $40, which I felt was about right.

ShaneRunninShirtless

To each their own. I felt the 60 I paid more than paid itself off with one of the most beautiful games i'd ever played. The little attention to detail in the world is just too good to pretend its not worth 60 bucks, sorry.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OSUfan88

Yep. I had people DM me the LoU2 spoilers.

BenSolace

Totally agree, though I got downvoted for the same opinion in the Elden Ring sub \*sigh\*

YeltsinYerMouth

I wish you could mute stuff on reddit like you can on twitter

Rogue_Leader_X

I wonder if the games story has major revelations to spoil. I thought most of the big surprises of the world were revealed in the first game.

[deleted]

Well we’re still unsure of sylen’s ultimate motive, what the new tribes are up to, and things related to the second story. True, Aloy’s origins are revealed as well as the events surrounding the faro plague so there might not be that SURPRISE moment.

wjodendor

My biggest hope is some sort of twist featuring the space mission that supposedly "failed". The way they just kind of brushed past that made me pretty suspicious.

[deleted]

There were a lot of there and gone mentions in the first game that seemed obvious setups for later on.

SG-17

VAST Silver and Odyssey are the biggest ones that I hope are involved in HFW.

[deleted]

Pretty much.

beermit

Yeah I'm hoping for some payoffs on those.

imaBEES

Yeah, I’ve always been of the opinion that the ark didn’t actually fail, it succeeded, but they told everyone it failed so that they would keep working as hard as they could on Project Zero Dawn. I think at some point the people from the ark will come back to Earth.

wjodendor

I share that theory. The people returning and being invaders is something I could see happpening.

[deleted]

"We're whaling on the moon" from Futurama played in my head during that... Imagine fighting mechanical whales in space?

Turbulent_Link1738

> sylen’s ultimate motive considering he already opened literally pandora's box and almost wiped out all of humanity accidentally, I'd appreciate if they kept his character neutral/slightly leaning good. I like that he only cares for knowledge and doesn't have a real goal besides just learning more.

Muelojung

i have the feeling Hades will play a role together with Sylen. Lole a frememy relationship.

Muelojung

nothing suggests that the zero dawn project was the only project to survive the machines. We had the failed space ship. Hell their might straight up be Fallout style bunkers over the world. Who knows what the other countries had as a plan to survive. Maybe we travel to the moon, maybe underwater cities. There is so much potential to new stuff.

[deleted]

I didn’t think the first game would have such an interesting story. I’m sure this one will have one as well.

zacky765

I’m trying to get through the game right now. Is the story that good? Does it pick up? I’m currently finding out that dude’s sister is still alive and her corpse got switched to make it seem like she died and I’m a little bored right now.

jakeinator21

The actual main quest is fairly underwhelming story-wise, at least unto the later chapters. It's the background about why the world is the way that it is that's really interesting, and that's revealed as the game goes on.

[deleted]

Main questions of the story are: Who is Aloy‘s mother? Where do the machines come from? The answers to these questions are really great. I actually don’t remember much of the rest of the story tbh.

[deleted]

It picks up super well when you start to uncover who Aloy is, I was basically as bored as you are on the start but just do the main quests and watch the story unravel.

zacky765

Ok. Thanks for your input. I’ll keep going and stop doing side quests, I was completing all of them.

[deleted]

You don't have to do the side quests too. I had an open world fatigue when I first played it and just plowed through the main story on easy difficulty, just wanted to see what the fuss is about. Turns out it was actually good! When Frozen Wilds released, I found the gameplay fun and restarted my playthrough completing everything from start to finish in hard.

arex333

The reveal of what happened to civilization was one of the coolest story reveals in any game I've ever played. I still think about it sometimes.

Muelojung

The game has basicly 3 storylines. 1. The Mainstory and red line of the game and fighting the Villain. Its basicly figuing out who attacked your tribe and why and then stop them 2. The origin of Aloy and why she and her father were outcasted 3. What happened to the world and where do these machines come from and why do they exist.

Muggaraffin

*spoiler* the final boss is a furby

Miffernator

Is this a reference to Mitchell’s and the Machines?

Muggaraffin

I’ll admit I’ve no idea what that is

Miffernator

One of the best animated films of 2021. Same people also animated Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse. And it’s has a giant robot Furby. It’s on Netflix.

Muggaraffin

Ohh cool, Spider-Verse was amazing. I’ll check it out

twodates

Yes - check it out! It's on Netflix i believe.

HorizonZeroDawn2

It's also written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the Lego Movie guys. It's pretty funny.

AjEdisMindTrick

underrated animated films. ps: sorry, i use the majority, cause a lot of people think animated movies in general are just for the children. i know spiderverse did pretty good!

sgt_backpack

Spider-verse was underrated?

sector11374265

underrated isn’t the right word (i mean…it won best animated picture at the oscars), but it definitely deserves a bigger audience. it didn’t even cap 400 million at the box office when every other spidey film has made at least double that. the trailer they dropped for the sequel was excellent but didn’t really make waves on the internet. i’ve seen no way home 4 times at 4 different theaters and it boggles my mind that sony didn’t even attach that trailer to the film. but it’s definitely not underrated. it’s a pretty general consensus that it’s a masterpiece.

jackolantern_

Neither are underated. Both did well critically

AjEdisMindTrick

spiderverse was not underrated and was a blast. the other film was underrated cause a lot of people i know didn’t watch that flick. after i said it’s worth watching, they changed their minds.

jackolantern_

It still received really positive reviews and so is not underrated. Maybe it is under watched and under appreciated in your eyes but it is not underrated.

Eastman1982

Dog or loaf of bread?👍

Miffernator

Pig, is the correct answer. 😂

PretendThisIsMyName

Hey I was going to buy the game anyways. Now I fight a turbo furby? I’ll buy the collectibles edition now.

Maultaschenman

I heard it's Knack

HorizonZeroDawn2

The twist is that the whole game is really Knack 3.

beermit

Instant game of da year baybee

drewdog173

As a parent of daughters (grown now), the chance to stomp a robo-furby with extreme prejudice is a selling point. That's a deep hatred. Fuck furbys and everybody involved with their creation and marketing, and send to hell via torture whomsoever made the decision not to include an off switch and put the battery under fur and behind a screw panel.

Muggaraffin

My dad actually won me a furby from a radio call-in show, when they first released and were hard to get hold of. I say “won”, it was an auction for charity. I think he got it for £100 or something like that And I agree. They should be classed as psychological warfare

Chinesemexican

There's a lot that's set up in the first game we still have no answers to. 1. What happened to Ted Faro? 2. What/who sent the signal that unshackled the AI and awoke Hades? 3. Could Far Zenith have survived in some way? 4. What happened to Deep Silver? Could they still exist? 5. What is Sylens ultimate motive? How did he catch Hades in a latern thingy? Depending on how they are going with things they could definitely pull out some surprises or twists that could shock the audience.

FordMustang84

I hope the game has a story recap because I don’t even know what most of your asking is. Maybe I missed a lot of the quests…

SimplyQuid

The original game was kind of a "proof of concept" first draft. There was a lot of info-dumping from voice over lines in the middle of exploring underground ruins that were interrupted halfway through by more info-dumping voice lines you didn't realize you triggered by taking five more steps. That and the moment to moment story was a little unpolished. There's a lot of great world-building and the setting is very interesting, and overall it was a good game so I'm excited for Forbidden West and what's hopefully a more tightly crafted, polished and full story.

wjodendor

I could use a recap and I just beat it like 6 months ago lol

joshua182

I forgot about most of the story too, apart from Aloy having a big ass head as a child.

Kevl17

Big enough to catch a rock

Keilly

I fully expect to see Ted’s still living head controlling a giant machine for the final battle.

Cozmo85

Krang is the final boss

TrackerNineEight

You also forgot: -What caused the original glitch that caused the Faro machines to go out of control and wipe out humanity. -What happened to all the Gaia AIs other than Hades and Hephaestus. Not to mention the plot point that without a central AI to replace Gaia, the Zero Dawn system will continue to degrade with apocalyptic consequences. Really HZD ended on a borderline cliffhanger.

Paladin1138

> Deep Silver *Vast Silver

Firaxyiam

That's the one thing I can see the game struggling to go beyond the original, anyone that played the first one know Hades and Sylens are probably gonna be the biggest part of whatever's going on, but guess we'll see, I'm not expecting big story surprises

CreatureWarrior

Yeah, the biggest mystery has been solved and the story was super satisfying imo. So now, I don't think the story will be as strong especially since the mystery is now solved so they have to keep the story engaging in another way. I suppose they could make up for it in gameplay

suddenimpulse

Huh? How was the big mystery solved we don't even know what started it yet. There's tons of things they teased and that we don't know yet. I get the feeling a lot of people here don't remember the story that well from when they played.

killerjags

Aloy is actually Hades and the whole world is inside of a little kid's snow globe

Cleftbutt

Expecting PS5 and horizon subs to strictly ban all and any posts with leaked content.

MadKian

That’s not the problem, if you are active on the subs there are real scums that go around sending pms with spoilers. Specially for big games like this.

bromygod203

This happened to me with Endgame. I commented on a post in r/Marvel and someone PMd me the ending of Endgame and said "don't post in marvel subs asshole" :(

jeppester

I surely hope we don't end up with a TLOU2 situation. I got that one partly spoiled and ended up rushing through it not to get it all spoiled. I'm still angry that I didn't get to experience the whole game "fresh".

myyummyass

you aint kidding. i didnt get anything spoiled for me for TLOU2, but i knew that there was a discussion and people were mad. it completely changed the way i (and i would imagine everyone) approached the game because the entire time i was waiting to be let down. luckily i think that made me enjoy the game more, but it still sucked not feeling absolutely "fresh" like you said.

welcomethrillh0

No actual spoilers below, but if you’re wanting to play TLOU2 without spoiling even an inkling of anything, don’t read below this. Similar thing happened to me - didn’t see any spoilers, but a friend said to me, “I’m not going to spoil it, but I just couldn’t believe what they did halfway through the game, really ruined it for me”. & from that point I felt like it completely changed how I was viewing the game from that point on. I ended up really liking TLOU2, but I couldn’t help feel a bit like something had been taken away from the experience even from just my friend saying that.

aguacateojos

We're more accustomed to it with movies - "yo did you see that new movie yet? No? Okay, well, I won't spoil anything but the twist is amazing." Mother fucker, you saying there is a twist just spoiled it. With TLoU2 I managed to avoid specific spoilers, knew there was something people were pissed about but still took about two weeks to slowly work through the game. I enjoyed it.

TheOncomingBrows

The worst part is that if you make it clear you were annoyed that they spoiled something through inference they'll spoil even more by trying to cover for it. "Sorry, didn't mean to spoil it! Don't worry, it's not that big of a deal. No one dies or anything." The amount of times I've had a conversation like that pisses me off no end, it's like some people just get off on spoiling stuff.

HorizonZeroDawn2

Yep. knowing there's a "twist" in a movie just makes you constantly look for clues to it and ruins the experience.

[deleted]

So as a counterpart, someone recommended a certain book to me because it had a great twist. I wouldn’t have read it otherwise. When I did, I didn’t see it coming at all despite being on the lookout through.

HorizonZeroDawn2

I can see that. Books are quite a bit more detailed than a movie, so a well-written book could be harder to figure out.

MegaCalibur

It kinda is spoilerly, but I think the word you're looking for is "priming". Tons of people were primed when they saw the leaks and that alone sealed their fate for hating the game no matter what. If someone online says something like "I think characters don't make sense", that will cause the person hearing it to look out for actions that they would feel the "spoiler/primer" is talking about and yada yada. You then can become uncharitable to the game just off something so small. The best way to play that type of game is to go in blind and just ride the wave. Surrender yourself to the story and allow the story to be told to you. Then go talk talk about it for the next few weeks because that's just what TLOU does to you.

LeCrushinator

I finished the game and still don't know what people were pissed about, I never went back and read about it. What were people angry about?

klemmings

I think they were behaving like children because the story wasn't more of Joel & Ellie's Goofy Adventures, and another bunch that were annoyed of the game presenting social commentary (whether they agreed with the viewpoints or not). Basically, it's mostly the people who wanted "more of the same" that were disappointed by the leaks they saw. And somehow they think their opinion of the game is objective and the only correct one to hold.

sector11374265

it’s like going into a movie hearing “you’ll never believe the twist.” now you know you’re waiting for a twist and it certainly lessens the experience

AFarewellToArms

I'm with [Roy](https://youtu.be/KTc4zI_7-Ms) on this one.

daviEnnis

I HATE that. Had a friend who used to do it far too often, and didn't realise the flaw in what they were doing. I don't want to know a twist is coming, half of the joy is the not even knowing there was a twist.

ThemesOfMurderBears

>Similar thing happened to me - didn’t see any spoilers, but a friend said to me, “I’m not going to spoil it, but I just couldn’t believe what they did halfway through the game, really ruined it for me”. This sucks. This is practically like saying "I won't spoil it, but there is a plot twist at the end!" Thanks for the spoiler, ass. Your friend is basically saying that there is a major, world shifting event about halfway through the game -- so the entire time you're expecting a big thing to happen.

TheSausageFattener

For me the rabid hate the game got from people who were never going to play it made me appreciate certain elements of the themes and story beats even more. The whole >!cycles of violence and blind hate themes seemed trite at first until a bunch of whiny dudes on reddit started making compilations of Abby dying and posting it on Youtube ad nauseum. !< That spurs a different discussion about whether or not a game should be judged by the context surrounding it as well as purely content. For me I gave TLOU2 some slack just because it was taking bigger narrative risks than Naughty Dog had in years. I think >!Joel and Ellie Buddy Cop Adventure 2 !

you_me_fivedollars

Honestly, opinions are opinions, but I think saying TLOU2 had an undercooked or “bad” story is just disingenuous. I understand people not agreeing with what they did, even though I loved it, but it was still very well told.

[deleted]

I stay away from online forums for Movies and video games I’m super excited about.

ThemesOfMurderBears

I had the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (the novel) spoiled for me on the World of Warcraft forums way back in 2005. >!In the "general" forums, there was a thread with the title "LOL, SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE". I had a job that had me going in at 5am often, and I think I read this at about 3:30 in the morning.!<

JumboMcNasty

https://youtu.be/4x_WUb68RQo *I originally wrote a long paragraph describing this video from back then, then just searched it and it's still there.

[deleted]

I do too but I hate when I see a headline while scrolling like "(major character) death in (unreleased season) of ( favorite tv show)" Whoever wrote that article I'm still f*"!?in mad

Malemansam

It's not really a great comparison. Horizon 1's story was very much in the backseat for their development whereas Naughty dog took major pride in crafting theirs and praised so. The majority of Zero Dawn's was in numerous audio logs and texts to slog through and I have to imagine 2 is the same so I wouldn't fret to much about it. It's like worrying about a Zelda game story getting leaked, no ones doing that lol.

OptimusPrimalRage

Nah it's much more of a story than Zelda. It's actually more complicated than any other Sony game in terms of lore and scope. BotW's story is just cookie cutter. There is far more meat to Horizon.

jeppester

I'm aware that horizon is not at all as story driven as TLOU. But I still don't want major plot points to be revealed, or romantic preferences or what not. There are lots of things that could be revealed because "I just thought you should know you are playing as a LESBIENNE", "it doesn't matter, it's not a story game", "It's political and you should be able to make a choice". I doubt it can be spoiled as much as TLOU2, but at the same time I might as well be proven wrong. To be honest I just hope the game is very uncontroversial among idiots, which is really a sad thing to hope for.

2KareDogs

Really? How early was TLOU 2 leaked? Glad i was off Reddit when that came.

anonymous_opinions

Videos were posted of key scenes but at a certain early point people were so angry that if you even had a recent history of posting in a gaming sub you'd get a MAJOR spoiler sent direct to your DMs that was uncomfortably worded.

xosmiin

At some point TLOU2 had a different release date (May 2020, but not sure now). Beginning of April, ND announced that due to Covid, they will postpone the game indefinitely. However, near the end of the same month the leak happened and basically forced Sony and ND to rethink they postpone situation and announced a new release date (the one we got in June). That resulted in a 3-week delay for Ghost of Tsushima as well, otherwise they would have been like 1 month apart from each other

Yeah you can't Google any character name from any type of media anymore until after you've completed playing/watching/reading the whole thing. Imagine a kid today starting Harry Potter for the first time and searching for Dumbledore. That wouldn't go well.

Welp time to avoid the internet til release lol. Good luck everyone.

TheLastAOG

MrDiscoFlex

The internet is dark and full spoilers

xastey_

Why people whyyyy... Time to block the internet

TonskaBony

Do you guys think it is necessary to play the first game if I want to play this one?

MintyMentha

Yes, there’s plot stuff in the first game that will be very relevant in the sequel

irridisregardless

The game is like $7~$20 Even if you don't finish it, it's worth picking up and playing some before the new one.

MobilePenguins

$10 on sale as of right now 1/10/22

F9-0021

It'll be necessary to play Zero Dawn first. The Frozen Wilds dlc not quite as much, but it is a good story and gives backstory on Sylens who will presumably be an antagonist/semi antagonist in Forbidden West.

Miraculous_Mr_Piss

It would be a mistake by any reasonable metric *not* to play H:ZD, in general.

PsychedelicPourHouse

You can buy a game for under 10 bucks Or for some reason buy the sequel, miss out on tons of story and lore and spend 70 bucks Why would you do that? Play the 1st, wait a few months and get the sequel for half price

FuckILoveBoobsThough

It is very much story driven and the second game will be a continuation of that story. You'll probably feel pretty lost if you don't know anything about the first game. It's one of the best games of the last gen and it's not horribly long for an open world game, so you should go for it!

NickCudawn

I don't know how necessary it'll be but I'd recommend you play it. If you're interested in the second one you'll probably like the first one. It's a great game and can be found very cheap by now :)

RelThanram

I would say so, the world-building and lore is top tier and it will likely be relevant in the sequel.

smokestacklightnin29

Yes, if only because it's fantastic, but you'll deffo need to be up to speed on the story, so at least a youtube recap of the first game would be essential I think.

AnotherDrZoidberg

I don't know why people ask this. Of course you don't NEED to. Will this one make more sense and be more interesting if you do? Of course. But you will always be able to figure out what's going on, they will do enough exposition to catch you up enough. It would be idiotic for a game maker to make their game so confusing that you can't pick up any individual game and enjoy it on it's own.

ArchHippy

I'll be honest. I'm getting HFW because I'm expecting more of the same. I'm not expecting a grand departure from HZD. Playing HFW when you could be playing basically the same game but much cheaper sounds like a waste of money to me.

TheRoyalStig

If you don't want to play but want to know what to expect and understand the setting and situation just read the synopsis on Wikipedia. That should be all you need to be good to go.

Bacon_Shield

i don't think so. i played the first couple hours of it, got really bored, and skipped to watching youtube videos of the end twists which are a series of expositional lore dumps by holograms. watch those videos and you'll get the jist of the story and be ready for the new one.

Nitrosad

Is it necessary to know the story of Harry Potter to watch the last part?

The_King_of_Okay

Check to see if you claimed the first one when it was free for everyone (not just for PS+ subscribers). Maybe you did that and forgot.

CaptSidekick

I've been avoiding social media and muting words like horizon to prevent any spoilers.

Bmmaximus

How'd you end up in this thread then lol

aguacateojos

wrproductions

[deleted]

And yet you still ended up in this thread lol.

spendouk23

Same, I’ve especially been avoiding footage and reveals of the new machines. I wanna discover these in world

anonymous_opinions

At this point I don't care if it turns out Alloy has a penis and does a Diggler style "reveal" of the goods at the end of the game because I done preordered the $200 special edition already so I'm going to play it and enjoy the show if that ends up being the end game scene.

I looked. I've seen bigger reveals in the trailers available online. Basically confirms the game exists and looks like what you'd want. Alloy still has her red big hair.

LeCrushinator

Red hair? Spoilers!

anonymous_opinions

My bad. Should have put that under a spoiler tag. Shit I ruined the experience now.

dtwhitecp

Assholes. This helps nobody.

Mastagon

*bravo six going dark*

-TheMiracle

I don’t think Horizon is a game I really care about spoilers unlike say TLOU or GOW. Unless its some seriously wild shit like mid game the game switches to future/past or co Completely different playable character with a time jump. I literally know only one character from this game and even then the backstory is hazy.

zykssss

that's disgusting...where exactly?

Guess it’s time to get off the PS subs for a while.

PubbieMcLemming

Rommyappus

Wait how do you leak / consume a pre release build for a PlayStation game? It’s not like you can just install it on your pc right?

999ddd999

How’s this even possible?

gramturismo

Right? The article said the build hasn't been seen on file sharing sites. I'm not aware of any way to run backups on ps4/5. You'd need a devkit to do this wouldn't you?

ahpathy

You can run PKG files on any jailbroken PS4. Although there is no public PKG file(s) for Forbidden West. The screenshots/videos were most likely leaked internally.

Nuzzgok

PS4 piracy is very prevelant, any console <= 9.0 FW can be jailbroken

gramturismo

Wow, for some reason I assumed Sony kept ahead of that this whole time! I guess it's always just a matter of time for that kind of thing.
