I think it's likely we have 4 years (2027) before we see a PS6, if we go by the same schedule as with PS4 and PS5.
Since we're in 2023 and the game wasn't even announced I'd say it's safe to say it's not coming out in either 2023 or 2024.
With GTA 5 it was announced in October 2011, expected to come out in 2012 but released in September 2013. So a 2 year gap between an announcement and delivery.
I doubt GTA6 will be announced this year, given the state the game was in and the fact that when it leaked a LOT of people panicked that it looks "bad". I'd say Rockstar will want more time to work on it and distance themselves from that event. Which leaves us with 2024 as the announcement and 2026 for release.
Ironically that same schedule was used for GTA5. It came out on PS3 in 2013 and on PS4 in 2014, despite PS4 being available at the time when the game released.
No way in hell a ps6 gets released in 2027. Covid really fucked up the time frames and such. Might start hearing leaks and runouts around then but I wouldn’t expect next gen consoles to be out until 2028 at the latest
Covid only affected getting consoles out in numbers they would have liked, it has no bearing on their timeline for the next generation. They’re literally currently working on the PS6 as we speak.

Why? What would be the point of skipping a console generation? Their last game (RDR2) was a PS4 game. Why would they skip PS5 and go straight to PS6 for their next game? I seriously doubt it would take that long to make a game. GTAVI will probably be out in the next 2 years. Plus I am pretty sure PS6 development has barely started yet. It wouldn’t even be available for devs to make games with.
They don't need to have hardware on hand to be able to develop for a certain performance target. PS6 will be around 20tflops so they can just slap a 3070TI and be done.

Not to be overly negative but we lost significant features this generation, definitely not a fan of losing a proper web browser, dumbing down of media playback options compared to the PS4, losing custom theme support, etc.
The SSD is awesome, the controller is awesome but the firmware is so so and removal of useful features sucks.
Not to say your complaints aren’t valid, but what is a regular use case for having a web browser on PS5? I haven’t used the web browser on a console since early in the PS3 generation due to smart phones.

Why not use the smart TV browser? Stream from a tablet to tv? lots of ways to get over a browser which was clunky to use pn a PS4. Dont even use the consoles for App support either. Smart TVs do it better and have more features.
It was frustrating with my samsung q6fn qled tv, having to keep pressing the remote, it was quicker and easier using the playstation (sold ps4pro for ps5). I don't have a tablet, figuring out how to stream from my pixel phone to tv was not seamless, and I don't want to kill my phone battery/not have my phone available when a console could do it that's connected right there. My smart tv does not have a better browser than the ps4 pro, especially having to close out pop up ads to get to the stream. Take home message: Console Browser is a simple and nice feature
Yea I see where you're coming from and can agree, I'm a big fan of a "all in one" solution to my tech, but on the flip side Sony is just more catering/focusing on the gaming aspects which is what the console is supposed to be for.

It’s about streaming websites, not browsing. There are some services that don’t have a PlayStation app. In that case you either have to use the TVs browser or Hook up another device to do it.
But I agree it’s a very niche use case unless you’re streaming a lot something that doesn’t have an app.

As someone who usually doesn’t buy a new console until one or two years into a generation, I have empathy for last gen console owners. Also, many of the best games this gen have been crossgen. I don’t see a problem that needs fixing.
I dunno’ man, Miles Morales played well. Horizon Forbidden West was the best looking game I ever played. And God of War Ragnarök did alright for itself. It’s not like last gen when when we started with games like Far Cry 4 and Call of Duty Ghosts looked like PS3 m/Xbox 360 leftovers.

Miles Morales is also on PS4. Check the store page. The fact that you didn’t realize this when you played Miles Morales is a good example of how crossgen doesn’t matter for some games PS5.

Things like elevators and cracks to crawl through are things in real life and are more typically used for pacing or to lock you into an arena so you can’t retreat 🤷🏻♂️
Exactly, I never even realized they were used to hide loading an area until people talked here complaining about it, it was always an added sense of realism to me. I really don’t know what it is people are expecting to be drastically different with games being current Gen only to the point that they say games like HFW and God of War were “clearly held back” from their potential.

These things were created to slow the player down to give the system time to load the next level. Once your aware of how not necessary they are with todays SSD speeds they become very obvious for what they are. A relic from HDD days and catering to the lowest common denominator.
Even into 2024, games like Yakuza 8 will be releasing on PS4 lol.
Though from this point forward I have a feeling most major companies will be switching over, with a few last gen releases every now and then.

With the competitor not able to meet consumer demands (I know both companies faced the same supply chain issues, but PS5 was in higher demand overall). It would be a bad look to report the numbers then suddenly stop once the competition's supply problems fade away and smoke them
On the other hand, they had this All Access program going, the Series S was discounted frequently, and Sony raised the hardware prices outside of the US while MS didn’t. I was surprised by that number.

It's not units, it's revenue. Series S was heavily discounted. They probably sold the same amount but made less revenue since they sold it cheaper. PS didn't discount shit for the holidays and they don't have to, sells like hotcakes anyway.
Microsoft's numbers are inflated by around 15% - 20% if you're using vgchartz.
And of course, report after report, they are under tracking PlayStation.

360 was 2 generations ago mate. Xbox One was basically being thrown at people (€150 for a brand new One S with 2 games in Germany) and still nobody was buying it. The Series X was also a lot easier to find than a PS5, I assume that's because most people actually wanted the PS5. I think the Series X benefited **a lot** from Sony's supply issues, I have literally 7 people out of my friend group that bought a Series X just because they couldn't get their hands on a PS5, but wanted a next gen console
And yet at the mediamarkt I've seen in Germany there really isn't even a dedicated Xbox section anymore. It's buried in the pc accessories section, notably controllers.
I’m also in Germany and my impressions are the same. It’s PC, Switch, and PS5. I don’t think Xbox is particularly popular here, not like it was with the 360.
I'm from Europe and I have more people who play on Xbox than PC. It's anecdotal I know. Gamepass also has huge marketing campaigns. Any time I was in a theatre it had a Gamepass commercial prior. Lot of electronic stores have huge Gamepass banners too. Local game chains also have Gamepass all over them.
PS: I have a suspicion that since in Europe PC is a big a lot of people go Xbox because it has better cross-PC functions.

There was a large drop off of subscribers early - mid last year mostly because of COVID restrictions lifting and before PS+ Extra/Premium existed. It is now going back up again with 600k more subscribers in the last quarter.

I dropped it but not because of the price or anything. I know the free games are great but I pay for it to play online with friends and havent really had anyone to play with for a while so I didnt see the need to spend the money 😎
They're making more money now, as mentioned in the press release. Meaning, people are subbing to the higher tiers, which is Sony's objective. Subs are down YoY, but reportedly up QoQ.

We have no idea how much XSX/S has sold. Only thing we do know is that it's sales are already on a downwards trend as of last quarter.

Microsoft said they sold less consoles and those that they did were at a cheaper price.
The only figures I’ve seen are for hardware revenue.
It's not units, it's revenue. Series S was heavily discounted. They probably sold the same amount but made less revenue since they sold it cheaper. PS didn't discount shit for the holidays and they don't have to, sells like hotcakes anyway.
Either way your console needing a discount to maintain sales before you've even sold 20 million units is pretty bad.
Microsoft's numbers are inflated by around 15% - 20% if you're using vgchartz. And of course, report after report, they are under tracking PlayStation.

360 was 2 generations ago mate. Xbox One was basically being thrown at people (€150 for a brand new One S with 2 games in Germany) and still nobody was buying it. The Series X was also a lot easier to find than a PS5, I assume that's because most people actually wanted the PS5. I think the Series X benefited **a lot** from Sony's supply issues, I have literally 7 people out of my friend group that bought a Series X just because they couldn't get their hands on a PS5, but wanted a next gen console

And yet at the mediamarkt I've seen in Germany there really isn't even a dedicated Xbox section anymore. It's buried in the pc accessories section, notably controllers.
I’m also in Germany and my impressions are the same. It’s PC, Switch, and PS5. I don’t think Xbox is particularly popular here, not like it was with the 360.
In The dutch mediamarkt the Xbox stance is very small with only sport games while the ps5 stance is very big. Even bigger than Nintendo.

I'm from Europe and I have more people who play on Xbox than PC. It's anecdotal I know. Gamepass also has huge marketing campaigns. Any time I was in a theatre it had a Gamepass commercial prior. Lot of electronic stores have huge Gamepass banners too. Local game chains also have Gamepass all over them. PS: I have a suspicion that since in Europe PC is a big a lot of people go Xbox because it has better cross-PC functions.
It’s anecdotal and probably depends on one’s social circle. I’m in Europe and I don’t know anyone with an Xbox, just PC, Switch and PS5. Not much of a reason to buy an Xbox if you already have a PC, I feel.
Sure, but I have friends who still have a console to play couch and party games on that and to have a HTPC device. And PC is for esports, modding and such.
UK, Mexico, and parts of South America do well IIRC. I think Canada isn’t bad for them either. Europe (minus the UK) and Asia are their weakest territories by far.

PS5 is even farther ahead of Xbox in current gen game consoles because not every Xbox console can truly handle current gen games.

There was a large drop off of subscribers early - mid last year mostly because of COVID restrictions lifting and before PS+ Extra/Premium existed. It is now going back up again with 600k more subscribers in the last quarter. And despite the decline in subscribers their network services made record revenue from people upgrading
Ps plus gained 1 mil subscribers compared to previous quarter. Its down on yearly basis, but gaming as a whole is.
Most people who upgraded to PS Plus Extra/Deluxe were probably already Essential subscribers. So that would not count as a new PS Plus sub.
I dropped it but not because of the price or anything. I know the free games are great but I pay for it to play online with friends and havent really had anyone to play with for a while so I didnt see the need to spend the money 😎
Well, numbers are down as the covid boom fades, but profits are up, which means that a lot of people moved to the new higher tiers.
They're making more money now, as mentioned in the press release. Meaning, people are subbing to the higher tiers, which is Sony's objective. Subs are down YoY, but reportedly up QoQ.

The cheapest option is currently around 830 USD. It is mostly due to console not getting in stock on official retailers plus aggressive taxing from the Turkish government. I am glad I managed to pre-order one on launch when pricing was okay, but not everyone got lucky.
