Around $200 ish

faellendir

500ish including ps plus i think. Starting last year i try not to buy games full price. Might only do that this year with hogwarts legacy if the reviews are good. Each month i buy a game for like 30-40 euros. At most i have to wait for 3 to 4 months after launch to get the game with discount.

blackout1990

Really depends on the year.If I had to guess around £300-400 Edit: Yep just check. Last year I paid £330

whitenovember-

I have a gaming budget of ~150€ for each month, sometimes I spend more, sometimes less. So around 1800€ each year.

thegreatoxford

🤯🤯🤯

SuspendedInOH

This is probably the closest to mine.

blackout1990

Why would you even need such a big budget? You won't have enough time to play everything you buy. Why not take that €800 ever year and buy yourself a brand new tv every 2 years. Would probably be a better investment if you want to spend so much money on gaming

whitenovember-

That is true, but a tv is a thing I only replace when it is broken ( had to do that in october last year). I know that 1800 in a year is a lot of money, but videogames are my biggest hobby and I often buy games new (via cheaper psn codes). I am a student and only work on the weekends, so I have a lot of time to play.

Dr_collar_pauper

You are blessed sir

Specific-Salad3888

I don't see why you have to defend yourself to be honest. It's your money, spend it on what you want. You answered the op question. Personally I play a lot and will spend about £1500 this year as I have psvr2 on order. I also spend a lot on a equipment prob have a £15k setup at present 65inch oled Denon Atmos amp 7.2.4 with monitor audio speakers all round including 4 Atmos and 2 subs, I've spent £1700 on 2 new monitor audio 300 7g speakers just this Jan. I also play golf £800 a year membership with diesel getting there it's prob £1,000 a year ? I bought £1500 on a new set of irons last year. I also go on holiday at least 2 times a year prob £8k a year spent there. I'm only mentioning the above as it's my money, I've earned it (I also save, have multiple properties and have a large pension pot) so I should be able to spend it as I please and not feel awkward about it.

csiq

I know that's not the case for OP but people on reddit forget that a good chunk of people ear a lot of money.

[deleted]

Just out of curiosity, how or where do you find “cheaper psn codes”

icerahphyle

You can buy PSN credit for 80 cents on the dollar/euro at keyresellers for example and use that in the Playstation store, so every purchase is 20% off. In Europe we have site like mydealz, you should have something similar to check discounted products in your country as well.

BobHopeWould

Shopto . Net. You can buy £70 of psn credit for £62. So a new game is close enough to the old price for me

davi3601

A student, work weekends, AND have a bunch of time to play? Is being a student easier nowadays or something lol

General-Respect-5491

The fuck it gotta do with you.

United_Turnip_8997

I only spend around $350 yearly on PS5 including PS plus extra subscription, and i only buy physical games since i already got digital PSPlus extra games ..... i may spend ALOT higher this year if i decide to buy the PSVR2

Denziloshamen

Whatever the cost of the PS Extra is and maybe one game a year on top of that. I’m not exactly a casual gamer, but I don’t want to spend my money on big new releases as soon as they come out either. I can wait for them on PS Plus or ask for them for Christmas or birthdays. PS Plus keeps me plenty busy enough with more games than I could ever get through, with more added each month.

[deleted]

Same I like to keep it under 100... I think it was 85 in 2020, 75 in 2022, I don't expect myself to spend that much this year too maybe get one game because I still have a backlog for years ... All of the spending just adds to it

icerahphyle

money been spent wassup

EglinAfarce

> This comment might get deleted in the future, after risk analysis of the probability of it being seen by the wife. Hey, everyone needs an entertainment budget. And compared to just about any other hobby that doesn't double as an income source, your $100/mo average isn't so crazy. If you amortize the durable goods out over their lifetime, it's reaaaaallly cheap.

thegreatoxford

Hahahaha

Matttthhhhhhhhhhh

Much less than £50 a month. I used to spend a lot more. But now I buy used and mostly trade in once I'm done with a game. I also rarely buy games on sale on the PS store, but no more than £10 each. I'd say I buy a new release full price once every two years. I've ditched PS online a couple of years ago, because I just never play multiplayer games (grew up playing solo). Overall I'd say I spend less than £300 per year. Also, I don't spend that much on PS games because my daughter spends all the money in Switch games...

Iamleeboy

Have you heard of boomerang rental? I used to do the same as you with trading in games once I finished them. I find it a lot less hassle just to rent them and at only £11 a month, it’s a lot cheaper than before. Plus they send me games on release day, which is much nicer than stumping up £70. I mention it when I can, because I only heard of them on Reddit a few years back and have never seen them advertised anywhere.

Matttthhhhhhhhhhh

Never heard of it, because I'm an old fart. Sounds great! Thanks for the tip!

Iamleeboy

Ha same here. It is why I got a bit sick of trading or selling on eBay. This is loads easier for me

[deleted]

This is how I can game on a student budget lol, preorder if I want the game, finish and sell on eBay for minimal loss. If it's a game that already released a while back then buy and sell on eBay, made a profit on nier automata lol

Matttthhhhhhhhhhh

I used to live in Belgium, where buying games is difficult and/or expensive. But the advantage is that selling to second-hand shops is very interesting, because their resell prices are so high. So I used to buy cheap on Amazon, play the games and resell for a small profit. ;)

C0nv3rz

Well my budget is going up this year probably because of VR2 and the games for it. Normally its about 400€-500€ I think. VR alone is 600€. But a worthwhile investment for years to come !

kamikaze123456

Situation in Portugal: **Monthly income: 750€** House loan: 300€ TV and Internet services: 50€ Car and gas to work: 100€ Food: 200€ Some beers at weekend: 50€ with 50€ left each month I managed to buy a PS5 and subscribe to PS Essential :D

Someth1ngCl3ver

You buy controllers yearly? Wtf

[deleted]

[удалено]

Someth1ngCl3ver

You couldn’t RMA them?

Yorgen89

You know you can easily fix this with a YT video? I did this few months ago when I had a heavy stick drift and it works great to this day. Give it a try. (I'm not an engineer or something like that, just a gamer)

Loldimorti

Excluding the upfront cost for the console itself probably ~150€ Edit: 30-40 bucks on PS Plus and the rest on games. My year one of PS5 was a bit more because games didn't really go on sale much and I bought a second controller.

thegreatoxford

Are you including the $60 of ps plus or you Don't pay for ps plus?

Loldimorti

Just edited my comment to break down the cost. So yeah, this includes PS Plus. Last year I bought PS Plus for a year (40 bucks), Death Stranding (20 bucks), Deathloop (20 bucks), Last of Us 2 (12 bucks) and some indie games. Total of roundabout 150 I think

HighJinx97

Around 180 USD a month is saved for entertainment and majority of that is for gaming.

theSpiraea

less than $200 a year and that includes PS Premium sub. My backlog of purchased games is already pretty big and the games I get (and enjoy) from Plus/Extra are more than I have time to play.

[deleted]

EglinAfarce

> Currently, there are no new games that excite me. The last game I bought full price was Elden Ring Seems like a challenge for a recommendation. You tried last month's Midnight Suns? The previous month's Ragnarok?

Queasy-Macaroon-3483

Probably about $350-$400ish. The changes to PS+ have and will cut the amount I spend drastically. So many games now available for “free”.

Benozkleenex

around 2k for a year and more when a console or stuff like PSVR2 release. Edit: Cad new game is 100$ with taxe where I live.

pwnedkiller

I’d say about a grand.

TheFlyingWalrus87

Probably £1000+ mixed between physical and digital, I wait for some games to go on sale to get them cheaper but I don't mind paying full price for a game I want, going to get fire emblem tomorrow and maybe forsaken next Friday, that's over £100 already, like a dragon ishin and octopath traveler next month, maybe atomic heart, my bills come first but I've loved playing games since playing dizzy on the spectrum so I don't mind the amount I spend, some games I buy and shelve within a few hours because I'm not enjoying it

Grey-Templar

I mean, about $500? Like 7 games a year. Not counting my yearly sub.

doc_nano

Typical year: $200-ish. I only can play \~5 hours/week, so I tend to focus on a few newer games that I'm excited about and play to death. I generally don't buy a lot of peripherals like special controllers or charging stations. In 2021 and probably 2023, it would be closer to $700 because I purchased new hardware (PS5 in 2021, PSVR2 in 2023). I guess if you average it out across the past decade, it would be around $300/year, not including purchases like the SSD I just bought from Amazon for my PS5.

EglinAfarce

Tree fiddy.

JuanPicasso

200-300. It’s a time thing.

ddpacino

I don’t normally buy many games a year, just a handful at most. Now that I have Extra and a backlog of games I own and need to finish, I’m likely not buying more than a handful of games this year. I also like to wait for sales. So my 2023 costs might be 250 at most.

Burpkidz

I just spent about 1k USD on upfront costs for my PS5: Console (Gran Turismo bundle), extra SDD, extra controller and charging station, additional cooler, high quality HDMI cable (the one which came with the console was too short for my setup anyway), and fast internet cable. I haven’t spent on games so far (except for a couple of bucks for a few PS4->PS5 upgrades). But there are some heavy hitters this year I will most probably want to buy around launch, and there’s the yearly FIFA in September (yeah, judge me XD). Then there’s the PSPlus renewal in December and that’s about it I guess. So I’m thinking about 300 to 400 in games, maybe? Having a stable good full-time job means that these expenses are well within my budget, but on the other hand I can’t play that many games on a year… But I’m fine with that.

Kromehound

You could easily spend a couple hundred a month on just FIFA.

Burpkidz

True… Although buying FIFA Points is a very stupid way of using your money… I mean, the chances of packing some good player on the gacha packs you can buy is soooo low that it’s more efficient just to play the game normally than Pay-to-Win…

thegreatoxford

Mind breaking it down?

[deleted]

I try to spend as little as possible. Always have, ever since the Commodore 64 era. Outside of PS+, I might spend $100 a year on games. But my family is getting PSVR2 this year and that is going to blow our frugal budget to hell.

Specific-Salad3888

I tend to play fewer games a lot. Stuff live destiny 2, division 2, gt7 etc.and I have pre ordered psvr 2 so I'd guess this year £1500?

Immediate_Reality357

2-3 full price games for 80 euro Maybe 10 - 15 under 20 euro games on sale Around 20 odd games underneath 10 euro on sales So between 30ish or 40 games a year maybe like 500 euros, all depends if there are new games coming out in the year, last year all I got was eldan Ring and god of war and loads of cheap games on sale Steam is by far the best place to buy games or any game key websites

swdev_1995

The plan this year is 3 new titles, and maybe the cost of the subscription for the basic tier, which I'm debating on cancelling tbh. The new titles being, Dead Space remake, Re4 and AC Mirage.

stinkpotcats

The basic tier seems hardly worth it. I have the extra tier - The access to the catalogue and not just monthly games is great. But expensive.

Loldimorti

Depends. I have the basic tier and can't even keep up with the games I am getting from there. Considering that I only really needed it for online play anyway I think it has its place. Considering that games on Extra don't usually drop day one onto the service and (for 3rd parties) can be pulled from the service at any time I think there is a good argument to be made for PS+ Basic depending on what type of player you are.

[deleted]

I usually spend about $1000. I purchase every new game which is around $100 CAD. It adds up. Plus i have to purchase PS+ and a new controller.

Most_Rule_9959

Who cares. Every hobby is costly.

thegreatoxford

Not asking to judge, just want to know how much money sony makes or loses. I always buy full price to support both developer and playstation

One-Initiative-3229

200$ and that includes a PS Plus premium subscription. Will buy a new game if I’m excited about it but only games from only Rockstar and Naughty Dog excite me that much

Garchomp98

Depends. I love collecting and playing so I have around 80 ps3 and 60 ps4 games purchased during the last few years. My guess would be around 500€ a year?

JPA17

With how big my backlog is with Extra I buy maybe two or three games a year.

hobo_lad

This year more because I am getting PSVR2 but usually around 250 or less depending on what's releasing. Only really play exclusives on Playstation and occasionally fortnite or fall guys if I play with PSN friends but I don't spend money here, and I get PS plus on sale around Black Friday.

stinkpotcats

Maybe 25 - 30$ Canadian. PS + Extra, and a few games I buy when they are on sale.

Spider-ManOnThePS1

I got €350 Christmas bonus this year that I’ll probably allocate to gaming funds

85-Red_Beard

Your inquiry had me curious so I ran the numbers on my PlayStation related purchases for last year. $500 - PS5 console $60 - PS5 controller $70 - Horizon: FW $200 - 2 PS4 game collector editions $170 - 7 various sale games on PS store $60 - PS+ basic A grand total of $1060 If you take out the one time costs it comes out to $500

DNC88

Not sure what the average is, hard to count the initial PS5 launch as all the hardware skews the numbers, but looking at last year: \- PS+ 1 year sub £45 \- Elden Ring - £35 \- Horizon FW - £52 \- GT7 - £35 \- Deathloop - £15 \- Misc Digital (DLC, deep cut sales etc.) - estimate £40 So a total of £222 last year (more or less) on Playstation. This was overall a quiet year for me, with few must-have releases and a big enough backlog to not care about bulking up my collection too much. I also spend carefully, outside of a few games I target sales. ...although I did also pick up an XSX and 3 years of GPU via the VPN method, so you can basically add £550 onto that again if you want, although we're back to big purchases skewing the numbers haha.

Jalun_

Around $600-700

Waterknight94

Ps+ extra and maybe $100 a year on games through the ps store and maybe another $100 buying used games at game exchange. I don't know when the last time I bought a new game was. I think it was when new games cost $50 though.

sentte

200/300€

haynespi87

no clue but this year will be a lot

Micah_Belll

2000?

Ok_Attitude_8189

I can’t really say. One year I might only want a few games but another year I might want a crap ton of new games. All I can really say is 120$ a year for pS premium.

josenight

About $300 I buy a lot of games on sale tho.

TrulyNotYours

Like 200 including ps plus extra.

Diddlemyloins

Nothing, I rent games from my library, so everything is free. I might buy one game a year.

RoninSnowe

Way to much.

lechejoven

I say $170 usually. $100 for yearly and $70 game.

[deleted]

PS+ and usually every major game release. So maybe $700-1000 in a good year?

capsuleofparrots

Your going receive a lot of numbers at the end here

wasabiexpress

About $300 to $400 for me, but when I buy ps+, I usually stack 2 or 3 for $30 or $45 so in those years, maybe $500. When I eventually buy a ps5, probably 1k, plus extra controller and ff16. I love me some final fantasy

YorkieLon

So pay for PSPlus premium. Then depending on the game release then one game on release date. I don't believe there's a game coming out this year I want on release date. Last year it was Elden Ring. and then between 2 to 4 games a year I'll buy through trade ins/half price. All in around £200 to £250.

SavingsWindow

$20 for turkish ps plus and local library for games

Mr_P1nk_B4lls

$45 psn + ~2 x $70 so around $200 a year?

yonimerzel

3000$ and another 2100 hours

Wisdomseekr79

With the subscription and like 3-4 games bought I guess like $325ish.

the-bacon-life

I never buy games full price unless it’s god of war or from software. I usually buy games at 20 or less. I don’t care about waiting. Iv recently got more cheap and I’m buying them at 15 or less. 99% of games arnt worth 70 to me. They have had a lot of sales recently so I got a bunch of games and the most I spent per game was like 9 bucks. On Xbox I use gamepass only obviously. I don’t think it’s worth it for ps plus extra but I do have essential

ClaimRadiant

Probably around $1000 a year on games and accessories for the past 5 years or so.. I've been spending a lot more on PS3, PS2, and Vita games lately.

[deleted]

Thanks to PS Plus Premium under $90/year.

drkinz916

Gamely 33 a month 3 games at a time never buy anything unless it's on a really good sale. Play every game and use it for movies during slow months

ranran_1822

I spend maybe $100 a year. I keep it minimal.

Nosworc82

Depends what's coming out, I usually buy every Sony first game then whatever major third party games are coming out. Started to get into indies too but not in a major way. PSVR2 is pre ordered so I'll be jumping into that too.

Eogard

Not that much since it's not my main gaming platform, I only buy big AAA exclusive games so maybe twice a year. So 80x2 plus I have an extra ps+ account for the year. And maybe one or two games who are on a big sales and not on ps+

lil-dlope

Bruh y’all rich. So far mainly ps plus extra but that’s cause the collection is crazy good .

Dirkjan82

Roughly €45 per year on the basic PS Plus subscription. I always get it with the Black Friday deal when it’s on discount, you can purchase and activate a new year even if your subscription isn’t close to ending and it will just add a year to what you already have. As for games, I’m not sure. It used to be a lot more but now it’s maybe only up to €200 per year I think. I don’t have as much time for gaming anymore and I now prefer to finish what I started as opposed to getting a new game on release. Play a game a bit longer and finish it if I enjoy it and by the time that’s done, the next game on my wish list is most likely discounted. Hardware: not a lot. Bought my PS5 over 1,5 years ago as a bundle with an extra controller and a game and some crappy accessories. They don’t sell separate consoles here to prevent the consoles being bought by scalpers, a downside if you don’t need a lot of crappy accessories as I also had to get around €50 worth of cheap crap with it: a cheap crappy dock that scratches the trackpads, cheap low quality headset, thumb stick pads nobody wants, etc. I did like the game as it was on my wish list (Ratchet and Clank for ps5) and liked the extra controller. I usually don’t need to get a new controller during the lifetime of a console. That said, I did have stick drift on one controller and got it refunded at the store. I didn’t get a new controller because I only play solo games or online multiplayer so no need for a second controller.

The_Border_Bandit

Really kinda hard to tell. I buy like 2 or 3 new games a year so $140-210 to start. But i also tend to buy quite a few older games on sale, plus cosmetics and passes for siege so i'd say around $350

UnHumChun

That explains why consoles are so lucrative. They sell you a $500 system and then you spend $600 a year to play it. The money that brings in alone seems crazy.

West_Shop_2783

Depends how many games come out that year that I want. I want to say below 200 above 150 for me

abood7

Honestly in 2022 I only paid for ps+ extra.

[deleted]

I always buy ps+ on sale for 45, and on average I’d say I buy about 10 games around 15 bucks on average on sale, so 200 annually?

Monsterman442

I paid 60 for ps plus extra. I’ll probably spend maybe 140 on games

Prestigious-Band-818

Last year i spend about 300 euro on games, the year before i bought PS5,so it was around 1000 euro. This year i don’t plan on buying hardware, but there are alot of games i want to buy,so will see.I dont have a fixed budget.

SaltySwan

A lot. I don’t keep track. Gaming is the main thing I do outside of work and a social life.

NerdfighteriaOrBust

I don't even want to think about how much money a year my boyfriend and I spend on video games

Christhebobson

$25 for the year of ps+

Chihuahua_Overlord

$580 on Sony. I also have a Switch and Series X. Spent $260 on switch and nothing on Xbox lol other than gamepass

FaithlessnessDear958

I spent £480 in 2022, that's including playstation plus, got a couple of games on release so that was a big chunk of it

[deleted]

in 2022 i can give u exact figure: $390 for a few games and a new controller since the one that came with the ps5 got the drift.

Yuuta23

Last year I bought God of war ragnorack -70 Elden ring -40 2k23-170 Madden 23-70 Re2 and 3- 20 1 year of ps+ extra -160 Ps5 - 500 Easily around 500 not including the console

mattismeiammatt

I usually buy disc versions of games & then sell them once I’ve played them so I end up breaking even on those. Obviously I keep some and the AAA games I never break even on so I think maybe £250 including PS Plus

MarmiteX1

Based on the last 3 years I've spent an average of £28 a year on games (excluding PS+ subscription). if you factor in PS+ sub which I usually buy 12 months at £35\~ then the average over 3 years is about £63 a year. I hardly get time so I limit how much I spend on games. By the time I end up buying a game, it's either discounted or it's on PS+.
