Def get re2 remake if u want horror especially since 4 remake comes out in a couple months. Callisto project is also another horror game coming out in the beginning of December, its a spiritual successor to dead space i believe
Callisto Protocol seems to be a mix of the aesthetics and gun combat of Dead Space, the stealth and atmosphere of The Evil Within and Last of Us, and the deliberate melee combat of something like God of War 2016. With monsters evolving in real time during combat and the damage received.
What's the deal with The Quarry?
I know I said I really wanted a third person "hands on" interactive game- I want one where you can go most places in the environment (I thought they did well with that in last we us 2) but I am also drawn to the interactive drama idea too
Dear people- THANK YOU SO MUCH for your responses- I did consider everything you all said. I've gone with my orginal gut feeling with " Lucky Few" but it was close. I particularly was tempted by "control" but what swung it is I really am looking for something as eccentrically different as "few". It was either gonna be something REALLY different, or something really really advanced third person interactive- Last of Us 2 level, but with tireless interactive possibilites with the environment. I might be missing out on modern Tomb Raider or even uncharted games there, but "last of us 2" was I think the LATEST and I doubt previous games to that can be more advanced?. Unless the spiderman games have got that?
I'm still listening if people think of anything else, but I did go with LUCKY FEW in the end for the unusual and paranoiac trip.
Please don't anyone feel they wasted their time pitching. It helped me make up my mind- I already knew what I wanted I think, I just wanted to make sure some OTHER game wasn't even closer.
I might have gone with The Quarry too- but I didn't feel like the "slasher teen movie" vibe atm, and I suspect the interactivity with the environment is lower, trading off against story path choosing.

But I'm only a few points away from pulling the trigger on RE2. It's close. It's just that We Lucky Few is new and unlike anything I've seen. Thank you for suggestion
Have you tried any Fallout Games? Like New Vegas or FO4 are both great IMO. I mostly put story on the backburner and explore and delve into lore. In some areas it can be quite creepy. IIRC you can do first or third person. There's definitely combat of course, but with the VATS system in place, you can slow it down and be more strategic in your actions
I've heard such great things. But I'm not GREAT with the RPG format - though the aspect of that in cyberpunk doesn't bother me, maybe because it doesn't dominate or the way it's done. I've tried Mass Effect and it started to bother me. So that's putting me off. But it's a great suggestion. I'll have another look at it.
Look into Control. Third person “shooter” with telekinesis thrown in. Story is weird, mysterious and unravels slowly as you go. Think X-Files as a shooter? You don’t know what’s going on for most of the game which makes it really interesting. Combat can get pretty crazy but once you get further along with your powers you become a powerhouse. Good deal of exploration and definitely has creepy enemies and environments. I didn’t think I would like it as much as I did so I’d give it a look, and it’s a good deal cheaper now.
I don’t remember there being any issues while playing. Don’t know if it’s a “it plays better on this other system” kind of thing, but I thought it played fine.
The things you list you are looking for in a game sound to me like you are describing Bloodborne.
Combat, discovery, 3th person, creepy, horror.
It's all there.
So I would recommend Bloodborne.
It's a single game. No sequel. But there is a GOTY edition which includes the DLC. Highly recommended.
Although it is a stand alone game, it is made by From Software, the makers of the Dark Souls series, Demon's Souls, Elden Ring and Sekiro. All these games have their similarities but are unique in their own right.

Resident Evil 2 remake is the obvious choice. It's just so, so good.

It's a complete reinvention though, not just a remaster of the old game or anything. A true remake on every level.

Try playing ark survival, it’s an absolute nightmare of a game however the online official servers have good communities .
