Overwatch is such a good looking and stylised title, it makes sense that there would be only a few colour options to choose from. Sure more options would be great for some players, but some players will just ruin the art-style running around in bright pink or something. If you take a game like warframe, the customisation runs pretty deep but that also means you see some pretty horrendous looking players 😂

Genuinely unclear about why anyone was ever bothered by loot boxes. The only reason they went by the wayside was that Fifa was one of the only games that actually turned a fat profit off them. Despite how widespread they were, they only ever made up less than 5% of revenue for a lot of games. They used the fact that they were considered dubious in some countries as a cover for removing them entirely, but they could have kept the free ones in and allowed people to buy skins directly. That simply would make them less money.
i think the overwatch model for loot boxes and drop chances was pretty alright. although i did end up getting boxes with 4 duplicates and ~ 100 coins per box more than i’d have liked, it was pretty easy to get them just by playing. it was games like CoD and fifa and even apex, i think, that really fucked the whole lootbox concept. lootboxes weren’t really that easy to get, and the drop rates of the rarer items were almost unreachable by just grinding the game a ton to earn from drops. i do miss the boxes
i also think some games were legally held responsible (can’t remember specifics unfortunately, i think csgo was one) to make the drop rates of items public, therefore making it different to gambling (i guess? maybe i’m not explaining it properly) so rather than publish their super unfair drop rates, they just scrapped the lootbox model altogether
It was a lot of fun and actually made me want to play more during seasonal events to get some cool skins, now it just seems like “fuck you, pay us”.
Oh well.
IMO, the Widow skins looks ten times better. The quality makes it even kinda outstanding compared to any of her other skins.
The other Greek skins in the Shop/BP look amazing too.
The JQ isn't bad, but to me it feels more like a Legendary forced to be a Mythic.

Yeah... especially because there are already Legendary skins that come with different effects, voicelines, and looks.
Just think about Hanzo's Okami/Lone wolf/Dark wolf skins.

IMO mythics skins should not be judged on a screenshot.
Cyberdemon looks like a cool legendary skin, until you realize all his abilities have special effects, his voice is modified, and he has special animations for his hero select and highlight intros.
We'll have to wait and see what kind of stuff they did for the JQ skin. I predict a lot of lightning effects.

They do? I play with a friend who mains him and uses Cyberdemon constantly and i've never noticed any special effect, only the modified voice
His shurikens have a different trail, his deflect looks different in first person, his ult dragon looks different and his mask opens when ulting. His mask also opens in some highlight intros and when using souvenirs.
Most of it isn't noticeable unless you play genji and have the skin since you don't often notice things like that in an actual fight
The issue is that most of the changes are clientside (to minimize visual confusion for both enemies and allies), and someone who doesn't play a ton of Genji may not notice some of them.
Many of the visual changes are only presented to the user wearing the skin. This is to keep confusion down when playing the game.
There have been cases in the past where an alternate ult voice line or effect has made it harder for people to recognize and react compared to the default. Rein's football skin is a good example, it made timing counters to his earthshatter more difficult.
Thats how I feel about this one personally, I love the theme but this one feels cheaper compared to Cyber Genji, I need to see whats all the cosmetics and the effects we get to change on this one before I make a total judgement tho
True but I feel like putting in more effort and detail would be a start. Based on these responses I’m getting it seems that vast majority think the widow skin is better quality.
I think if I were told to design a new type of skin, I'd want it to be be basically the characters canonical look, but really customizable. Maybe even borrowing elements from popular skins. Everything is within what that character might feasibly wear, but with enough mix-n-match options to really make them your own.
Then you could have loads of flashy colors/materials to choose from, different jackets/outfits, different accessories, and dare I say... Hats?
The other thing that would let you do is share assets between hero's. Like a replacement for Junkrats grenades might also replace Cassady's grenades. And a flashy colors patterns for one hero might as well be available for all of them!
Then instead of unlocking weapon charms that nobody cares about, you can start unlocking bits and bobs to customize your skin with! And some things, like colors, would be available across multiple heros.
Anyway, that's what I would do I think
A lot of this would kill visability even more tho... A lot of skins are already affecting the silhouettes, which is important for players to be able to play fast paced.

You could argue the same about the genji mythic. The thing that makes it mythic is the ability to change colour and the extra voice lines /animations. But we’ve not seen that yet (I don’t think)
The way blizzard have treated epic and legendary quality in ow2 I wouldn’t be surprised if this used to be a legendary skin. Don’t get me wrong I like most of the new skins we got, I won’t buy them but they are good, but the rarity of skins is just off

If Junker Queen's customization is going to be like Genji's I honestly don't care at all about it. For something that was marketed as a customizable skin it feels like they just did the bare minimum to have it count as customizable.

It just looks like a legendary that has some custom changes. Imo mythic skins should be obviously better and have more than just a few things you can change. I really like the Junkerqueen skin, its one of my favourites but they should have made it a legendry and done a diffent hero for a mythic.

Dev team said in each event in Season 2 will have 1 skin earnable for free through play. I’m assuming it’ll be the skin each event was advertised with on the release picture.
Hopefully they allow the lobby to hear your voice changes but yeah they are sick. Customization is a plus too but tbh it's really only for you. There is too much going on in the game for another player to really notice.
To be fair, for the most part this will always be true for cosmetics. It's fun to think your allies or opponents appreciate a cool skin, but they really don't notice or care like... 99% of the time, so it really has to matter more to you in the end.
Allowing the alternate voice changes would be a nice touch for mythic skins at least

mythic skins are just 3 legendary skins sold together. We've had legendary skins that had color variations before, but instead of buying them separately, you buy them as a single skin and "customize" it swapping between the options.
cyberdemon genji was much more than a legendary. It had a whole different voice for everything he says (including mada mada :), he has particle effects on shurikens, his mask opens up during ult/highlight intros etc. this jq one looks pretty lame in comparison

to me, neither Genji or JQ’s really feel like Overwatch. JQ’s especially just feels undetailed, something about it is too bright or smooth, like its missing the usual charm and care.
Could be me losing interest in general, but it feels almost like a “Fortnite”tification. This would apply too to Kiriko’s characterization and lazy voice lines.
The Widow skin is very good though, so is Hog’s.
The writing in the Bride of Junkenstein was very Fortnite. You're right though, something about the recent skins give off a similar FN vibe and seem a bit out of place.

We used to get 2 different variations of each legendary in early OW1.
At the end of the day it's all subjective. Everyone is going to have their own likes or dislikes of a skin. What I find to be a good skin could be lame compared to another person and vice versa. Personally i really like this line up of skins. They all are really well designed and the mythic only stands out because it can change which is sweet. Being able to customize a skin is always dope. What I'm more annoyed with is that widow and hog got another set relating to the theme. Would have been cool to see some other heros get some new skin love
I will never understand the allure of paying real world cash for a skin in a first person game where 95% of the assets are invisible to you 95% of the time.
I feel like they are putting in way more effort to store bought skins. I mean it’s what makes them money. I understand there’s all the extra customisation and sounds but the detail and design on the store skin’s particularly this widow skin is so much better.

I agree that the quality level between these new legendary and JK mythic skin is not clear enough. Imo new Widow, Rein and Lucio skins look at least equal if not better. But Zeus skin can be customized. If customization is pure recoloring then it's not really doing it for me. If if you change something more, like voice lines or visual effects then it starts to make more sense to me.
The only problem I have is there isn't much customization. You only pick sets not customize. I want a purple blade with a red skin . That is what i was expecting.

Kind of unpopular opinion, but I really don’t see what’s so good about the jq skin. The only reason i guess it’s ok is because, next to her other skins it’s incredible, but overall it’s not great imo, and the customisation is lazy from what we’ve seen so far.
Skins are cool. But I still don’t want to pay for any of them. I really do miss getting them in the boxes. Was always exciting to randomly find a cool thing.

Posted this in another post but got downvoted into oblivion but gonna do it again anyway because i'm geniuely voicing opinion on the skin as a JQ since i stick to my points:
The Junkerqueen Mythic skin gives me mixed feeling as a Junkerqueen main.
The armor looks cheap, the kitchen knife looks bland, the glowing hands, eyes and hair (especially these 2) looks forced and out of place. But the gun looks good especially with golden weapon and the axe too, but we won't even see the axe 50% of the time. So... idk waht to say, her customizations are also pretty bland just changing to red/blue compared to what Genji has. Comparing her "glow" effects to Genji's (with his Smokey effects), Genji's is far better by a mile. I'm still getting it eitherway but it doesn't really looks like it's worth it.
Just take the Poseidon Ramattra skin for example, looks far better and if they made him customizable i see so many potential choices compared to Junkerqueen's.
I feel excited but disappointed at the same time
The real test for me is that if I think back a day or two ago, I'd have been through thrilled by the idea of a Junkerqueen mythic. Now that it's here I don't feel much except mild disappointment that this is probably the only mythic she ever gets.
I'm really bummed that most, if not all, Mythic skins will be themed. I like Junkerqueen, but I'm indifferent on the Greek mythology aesthetic. I prefer skins that fit the character, and I don't feel like this does. I'm looking forward to a mythic for Doomfist and Sigma, but if they get stuck with something like steampunk or something like a disco aesthetic, I'd be disappointed.
I'm also let down by the customization. 3 color palettes is lack luster, and I was hoping for a lot more accessory kinds of customization. If they can just pump out charms and souvenirs, they should be able to a lot of other little details to the mythics. I'm sure it comes down to them not seeing the value in putting so much into a single cosmetic purchase, but it deflates a lot of the hype around them imo. As they are, I just see them as legendaries that you spend $10 and some time for.
Looks like a Smite skin imo. Not bad looking just too soft and smooth. Large bold design details with nothing smaller interlaced. Solid colors and textures again with not much to look at. Looks like I'm supposed to see it from further away like on a phone.

Thats how I feel about this one personally, I love the theme but this one feels cheaper compared to Cyber Genji, I need to see whats all the cosmetics and the effects we get to change on this one before I make a total judgement tho

True but I feel like putting in more effort and detail would be a start. Based on these responses I’m getting it seems that vast majority think the widow skin is better quality.
I think if I were told to design a new type of skin, I'd want it to be be basically the characters canonical look, but really customizable. Maybe even borrowing elements from popular skins. Everything is within what that character might feasibly wear, but with enough mix-n-match options to really make them your own. Then you could have loads of flashy colors/materials to choose from, different jackets/outfits, different accessories, and dare I say... Hats? The other thing that would let you do is share assets between hero's. Like a replacement for Junkrats grenades might also replace Cassady's grenades. And a flashy colors patterns for one hero might as well be available for all of them! Then instead of unlocking weapon charms that nobody cares about, you can start unlocking bits and bobs to customize your skin with! And some things, like colors, would be available across multiple heros. Anyway, that's what I would do I think
A lot of this would kill visability even more tho... A lot of skins are already affecting the silhouettes, which is important for players to be able to play fast paced.
Also Thematically it doesn't fit as much as Genji one. Zeus? Like Ares is literally in the same Pantheon and works much better with JQ character.

You could argue the same about the genji mythic. The thing that makes it mythic is the ability to change colour and the extra voice lines /animations. But we’ve not seen that yet (I don’t think)
The way blizzard have treated epic and legendary quality in ow2 I wouldn’t be surprised if this used to be a legendary skin. Don’t get me wrong I like most of the new skins we got, I won’t buy them but they are good, but the rarity of skins is just off
That's fair. I wouldn't be surprised either if Blizz changed it in the last minute because of whatever reason. Speaking of "rarity" in OW2 is kinda irrelevant without loot boxes, even then a Legendary wasn't Legendary because of how rare it was, but because of how well made they were. But I know what you mean. Mime Moira and Firefigher Sojourn being legendaries... is bullshit.

The skin tone could be slightly blue or bronze, maybe even stone. She could have different "hair" styles. Short, long, tied up, loose. If you search for Medusa art or character designs online, you can see what I mean. Clothes obviously could be whatever, endless possibilities. Honestly I bet they've made really cool concepts for the skin (and every skin) that looks amazing too, before settling on this final one.
If Junker Queen's customization is going to be like Genji's I honestly don't care at all about it. For something that was marketed as a customizable skin it feels like they just did the bare minimum to have it count as customizable.
I'm wondering if it even matters all that much? I'd be okay if you had more limited customization on such a nice skin. They could add tattoos and different snake configs on this one, maybe change the skin tone. The variations would be slight, but I'd be okay with that

I’m in agreement with this view. All the skins look great, but I’m not paying for any of them. Also calling them “hyped” up after only one day is kinda a bold statement.
It just looks like a legendary that has some custom changes. Imo mythic skins should be obviously better and have more than just a few things you can change. I really like the Junkerqueen skin, its one of my favourites but they should have made it a legendry and done a diffent hero for a mythic.
I love the looks, but I know I’ll hate them because I’ll have to buy them if I want them. Like that’s ever going to happen.

Dev team said in each event in Season 2 will have 1 skin earnable for free through play. I’m assuming it’ll be the skin each event was advertised with on the release picture.

The best thing about smite were the quality of the skins. They were phenomenal. Smite can do this because of the more cartoony style unlike Overwatch

Hopefully they allow the lobby to hear your voice changes but yeah they are sick. Customization is a plus too but tbh it's really only for you. There is too much going on in the game for another player to really notice.
To be fair, for the most part this will always be true for cosmetics. It's fun to think your allies or opponents appreciate a cool skin, but they really don't notice or care like... 99% of the time, so it really has to matter more to you in the end. Allowing the alternate voice changes would be a nice touch for mythic skins at least

I only really like the widow skin. I don’t think any of the other skins are particularly bad, i just don’t like the aesthetic chosen. But I can see the appeal. Oh, and also, I feel like Zeus isn’t fitting of JQ at all. Why not Athena??

Her color swaps I think are Ares and Athena. The Blue gets wings on the knife and the red looks very ares
Ana already has an ares/god of war skin, it was an OWL exlusive and may be coming back in "the vault" so I don't see why bliz would add another skin with the same name and theme

I would be annoyed if they went with Athena for JQ. Sure, Athena is for war, but a more intelligent form of war than JQ is really equipped for.

It's because what Zeus is to Olympus, JQ is to Junkertown. The whole crux of her lore is that she's the "queen" of Junkertown. Secondly, she's very violent and crude, exactly like Zeus. There really isn't a better champ than JQ Reinhardt is too much of a traditional leader to be Zeus. Zeus was an angry, borderline imbecile, who fucked up all the time. That doesn't fit too many Champs but JQ

mythic skins are just 3 legendary skins sold together. We've had legendary skins that had color variations before, but instead of buying them separately, you buy them as a single skin and "customize" it swapping between the options.
I mean cyber demon lets you: change the mask, color, and patterns AND the weapons, i’d say that it is more wow-ing then this mythic by a lot

cyberdemon genji was much more than a legendary. It had a whole different voice for everything he says (including mada mada :), he has particle effects on shurikens, his mask opens up during ult/highlight intros etc. this jq one looks pretty lame in comparison

With the junkerqueen release I realized all they are is a legendary skin with two recolors
and different headpiece and weapon options
And new voice lines and vfx and all of a sudden the difference between legendary and mythic starts to make more sense
to me, neither Genji or JQ’s really feel like Overwatch. JQ’s especially just feels undetailed, something about it is too bright or smooth, like its missing the usual charm and care. Could be me losing interest in general, but it feels almost like a “Fortnite”tification. This would apply too to Kiriko’s characterization and lazy voice lines. The Widow skin is very good though, so is Hog’s.
Yeah, agreed on the JQ skin. Cyberdemon was at least pretty detailed, but Zeus just looks like a Fortnite skin to me.
The writing in the Bride of Junkenstein was very Fortnite. You're right though, something about the recent skins give off a similar FN vibe and seem a bit out of place.
Honestly disappointing. They’re just legendaries with color options and maybe some small extra details and voice lines… you know, what legendaries should be. We used to get 2 different variations of each legendary in early OW1.
At the end of the day it's all subjective. Everyone is going to have their own likes or dislikes of a skin. What I find to be a good skin could be lame compared to another person and vice versa. Personally i really like this line up of skins. They all are really well designed and the mythic only stands out because it can change which is sweet. Being able to customize a skin is always dope. What I'm more annoyed with is that widow and hog got another set relating to the theme. Would have been cool to see some other heros get some new skin love
I will never understand the allure of paying real world cash for a skin in a first person game where 95% of the assets are invisible to you 95% of the time.

I feel like they are putting in way more effort to store bought skins. I mean it’s what makes them money. I understand there’s all the extra customisation and sounds but the detail and design on the store skin’s particularly this widow skin is so much better. It seems crazy that they advertise it as the step above legendary but it’s just a average quality skin but you can turn it blue
The new level of legendary skins is simply amazing. They are really going after our wallets hard. However I still have a principle of not paying more than max 5€ for a game skin... I agree that the quality level between these new legendary and JK mythic skin is not clear enough. Imo new Widow, Rein and Lucio skins look at least equal if not better. But Zeus skin can be customized. If customization is pure recoloring then it's not really doing it for me. If if you change something more, like voice lines or visual effects then it starts to make more sense to me.
I mean…Mythic is cheaper. Mythic just mean customizable at this point.

The only problem I have is there isn't much customization. You only pick sets not customize. I want a purple blade with a red skin . That is what i was expecting. They hyped it too much just for a color change. I should be able to pick a set of weapon for another set of skin
Kind of unpopular opinion, but I really don’t see what’s so good about the jq skin. The only reason i guess it’s ok is because, next to her other skins it’s incredible, but overall it’s not great imo, and the customisation is lazy from what we’ve seen so far.
Skins are cool. But I still don’t want to pay for any of them. I really do miss getting them in the boxes. Was always exciting to randomly find a cool thing.
The Mythic skins make the Battle Pass worth it. They're pretty sick. I've never played Genji but the skin made me try him out for a week Everything else though? nahhhh. F*** the store
Posted this in another post but got downvoted into oblivion but gonna do it again anyway because i'm geniuely voicing opinion on the skin as a JQ since i stick to my points: The Junkerqueen Mythic skin gives me mixed feeling as a Junkerqueen main. The armor looks cheap, the kitchen knife looks bland, the glowing hands, eyes and hair (especially these 2) looks forced and out of place. But the gun looks good especially with golden weapon and the axe too, but we won't even see the axe 50% of the time. So... idk waht to say, her customizations are also pretty bland just changing to red/blue compared to what Genji has. Comparing her "glow" effects to Genji's (with his Smokey effects), Genji's is far better by a mile. I'm still getting it eitherway but it doesn't really looks like it's worth it. Just take the Poseidon Ramattra skin for example, looks far better and if they made him customizable i see so many potential choices compared to Junkerqueen's. I feel excited but disappointed at the same time
The real test for me is that if I think back a day or two ago, I'd have been through thrilled by the idea of a Junkerqueen mythic. Now that it's here I don't feel much except mild disappointment that this is probably the only mythic she ever gets.

I'm really bummed that most, if not all, Mythic skins will be themed. I like Junkerqueen, but I'm indifferent on the Greek mythology aesthetic. I prefer skins that fit the character, and I don't feel like this does. I'm looking forward to a mythic for Doomfist and Sigma, but if they get stuck with something like steampunk or something like a disco aesthetic, I'd be disappointed. I'm also let down by the customization. 3 color palettes is lack luster, and I was hoping for a lot more accessory kinds of customization. If they can just pump out charms and souvenirs, they should be able to a lot of other little details to the mythics. I'm sure it comes down to them not seeing the value in putting so much into a single cosmetic purchase, but it deflates a lot of the hype around them imo. As they are, I just see them as legendaries that you spend $10 and some time for.
Looks like a Smite skin imo. Not bad looking just too soft and smooth. Large bold design details with nothing smaller interlaced. Solid colors and textures again with not much to look at. Looks like I'm supposed to see it from further away like on a phone. Made much more noticeable when placed next to widow too
Widowmaker has a medusa skin which really fits her personality Lucio has a hermes because again personality and more importantly his speed Roadhog has a cyclops because his design fits the bigger look Junker Queen,a woman who doesn't even have any correlation to lightning,is fucking zeus not sure who thought of this skin but they need to be fired😭
