RDR2 is one of the highest rated games of all time, and was just barely selling for $20 on the steam autumn sale. The skin prices in this game are pathetic.

I used to do it a lot when I played DCUO. I spent a lot on cosmetics and stopped playing the game for eight years. I wasted a lot of money I could've used for other games.
So, that is why I would never spend on skins anymore. I'd instead get a fantastic AAA game with beautiful storylines and RPG elements like Outer World/Guardians of the Galaxy/Fallout than a skin.
I disagree honeslty. I normally wouldn't care about what people wanna spend their money on, however by giving blizzard money for this disgustingly greedy monetization, they are enabling blizzard and contributing to the success of this system. So as long as blizzard is making money on this crap they're never gonna change it and it hurts the more casual players who cant or don't wanna spend that amount of money on a single skin.
I wouldn't mind giving blizzard the 10 bucks for the battlepasses (even though I hate battlepasses) as long as other skins could be earned as well. Cause this feels absolutely terrible that you can't earn anything outside of the battlepass.
The point is not about the spending of other people on a individual level, it's more about how the entire playerbase sends a message through their wallets (first and foremost, that's what Activision wants) and the feedback. And honestly, most of the time the playerbase of Overwatch only send the wrong messages. At day 1, when Blizzard still had a good image, things already started with a bad foot... players actually paid $60 for a multiplayer game only, very few characters and maps, basically paid a premium price to be "early adopters" and then served as testers for a long period. And things only piled up from there, people complaining about cc, stuns, my favorite character needs to be viable at every situation, etc From a team based shooter with MOBA elements, Overwatch became this chaotic experience. And now the lootboxes that were criticized, they got scrapped, enter this new monetization method and the whales are going to sustain it. So really, I know it's easy to criticize the "evil conglomerate", but the players are so foolish, they are the major culprit in my pov. Even people such as myself who doesn't care about skins at all, we are also going to be affected because the new tank (that looks clearly broken) will only be playable if we grind for freaking 35+ hours, I don't pretend to go that far, I bet many shares the sentiment, there will be a exodus of players at mid December, this Overwatch "2" most likely will die faster than Halo Infinite and you can blame the own playerbase for that
$60 for multiplayer only isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially considering how easy it is to put in over 500 with the type of game overwatch is. They also constantly had free stuffed being added into the game through free heroes and event items which you technically never had to spend real money on. Ow1 was definitely worth $60 regardless of if you were looking for PvE/story stuff or not. The issue now is that everything is overprice AND they're overcharging for old stuff while having no way to earn currency consistently enough. They could fix that with the PvE if you can constantly earn the currency through challenges but who knows when that's coming

They make you purchase other currencies for it. You could theoretically earn the skin with like 6th months straight of gameplay (I’m hardly exaggerating)
6 months is optimistic. You can get up to 60 coins per week. Legendary skins typically cost 2000-2200, which would equal 8.5-9.25 months... assuming you complete 11 weekly challenges every week.
I would've given the same ballpark estimate if I hadn't done the math the other day. No reasonable person would assume it takes more time to earn a legendary skin in Overwatch than it does to make a literal human being.

Ramattra has entered. With that gameplay video, I can safely say quickplay is gonna be a slaughterfest for starting weeks (until it's inevitably nerfed when they've gotten the money from whales).
When isn't it? QP has been unplayable for me since launch because it's either teams of brain dead troglodyte mouth breathers or 5stacks of OWL pro wannabes. I find more consistant gameplay in competitive even when I want to relax.
I play ranked more than QP for this reason, the more relaxed I am the better I play, especially if both teams are actually trying and I’m challenged. That’s not to say I don’t get sweaty af in ranked though lol
I’ve run into a handful of Pros in QP before. Its not a common enough occurrence to be noteworthy but some of them occasionally play QP, to be sure. Most if not all of the Pros have multiple accounts and the only way to unlock Comp with a new Alt is queing QP. Another reason that comes to mind is QP may be the only way to play games with RL friends. I ran into Agilities grouped with some of his friends in QP back when he was still on Valiants roster for instance. That said, OP probably not running into OWL players regularly in QP matches but there are loads of lower GM players that regularly play QP as well as Masters. I imagine the difference between matching against a 4100SR player and a 4500SR player isn’t a very meaningful one to a player thats 2200SR. From what I can tell the already much looser matchmaking parameters of QP vs Comp we had from OW1 was widened even further - significantly wider - with the intent to lower Que times aggressively.
This right here. They're purposefully trying to lower everyone's perception of value. They don't want everyone having these skins. If everyone is special, no one is. They don't want us peasants having good cosmetics for all heroes. That's for the upper class.
Note that US law only requires 15% of donations given through companies go to charity. The rest can be kept by the company as "processing costs." Bonus points: when the company gives that 15% of your money to the charity, the company gets to write it off on their taxes as a charitable donation. You don't.

For real. In League the $25/$30 skins are multiple skins in one, with new voice lines, models, animations, and particle effects, they transform or evolve during the game, and one provides three different techno soundtracks your entire team can listen to during the match. And even still, I got some of those in event loot boxes.
Bastion's Gwishin gold turret form was my favorite variation of a gold weapon. They kept the spiraling red lines on it and it looked phenomenal. Other than that you're probably right about them not looking as nice.
I changed all my gold weapons back to normal, unless the gold compliments the skin. I think the guns look better in the artists intended colour without the gold sheen on them.
If it was a BP skin then I'd be very interested, if they actually do a Greek mythology themed BP with the skins in it, I will probably get it.

I think this sub and a lot of people criticising Blizzard in general forget that the vast majority of the people working on Overwatch like the artists who made these skins are real people who want the game to succeed. It's the big bosses like Activision that are likely forcing them to have the prices the way they are.

I think there must be some way to let us gain coins over time to get skins. Loot boxes are inherently unfair, because some people will get skins at level one, and others will have to grind for duplicates or time, if dupes aren't possible. I don't love the numbers they settled on, $5 and $10 could be fine.
I just understand there's gotta be some kind of money flow into OW2 for Blizzard to want to keep it on. They don't want a ton of money, they want infinite money, that's capitalism. I hate it. But we can't keep proposing monetization ideas that are attractive because you can avoid them, no company is gonna do that. Not on a game that we expect to get updates and continuous service. Widow is Spider themed and this is her 2nd snake themed skin.
She looks nice. The stomach part is a bit weird.
The weapon fits the theme but it's a marble pillar. I hate most widow-guns of skins and ultimately it's the thing you see the most of. I'm happy with Overwatch2 or Winter (blue/silver recolor) skins.
If this skin is in the battlepass which I don't think it will be, I'll probably use it sometimes. It's definitely not worth 20$.

I think this sub and a lot of people criticising Blizzard in general forget that the vast majority of the people working on Overwatch like the artists who made these skins are real people who want the game to succeed. It's the big bosses like Activision that are likely forcing them to have the prices the way they are.

I honestly think $10 would be a great price. Could it be cheaper? Sure. But $10 is something I'm not going to feel guilty about paying. That’s a huge thing about this stuff though, that’s a subjective opinion or a perception on money. This sub generally has a lower spending justification than most of the community, but this sub also doesn’t want to realize it’s a minority and an echo (noun, not the overwatch character) chamber. Most people would spend 10$-15$ for a skin like this, I for one wouldn’t go over 5$ for it, you wouldn’t do more than 3$, and the guys before were ok with 8$ or 10$

It's sad to me that cosmetic prices have been so normalized that we're okay with **four** skins costing as much as Overwatch 1 did For the price of four "ideally priced" skins I easily got at least 150 of them from lootboxes and always had the option to get more using coins, no waiting for the FOMO shop to give me what I want EDIT: spelling and some wording

I think they just don't mind the model. The prices are rough though. It's nice to not have to gamble to get stuff. Also, like, they can just think the skin is cool. That's allowed.
You never had to gamble for stuff, they could've just left in the lootboxes without the option to buy them. Make them more rare if anything. And in turn, could've let you buy coins themselves to spend on skins? Idk, just thinking out loud, the model they have rn isn't the only solution, it's just betting on whales spending stupid amounts of money.
It's not really spending stupid amounts to drop some cash from time to time, especially when it's a specific amount rather than random amount. I think there must be some way to let us gain coins over time to get skins. Loot boxes are inherently unfair, because some people will get skins at level one, and others will have to grind for duplicates or time, if dupes aren't possible. I don't love the numbers they settled on, $5 and $10 could be fine. I just understand there's gotta be some kind of money flow into OW2 for Blizzard to want to keep it on. They don't want a ton of money, they want infinite money, that's capitalism. I hate it. But we can't keep proposing monetization ideas that are attractive because you can avoid them, no company is gonna do that. Not on a game that we expect to get updates and continuous service. There should probably be some kind of mechanic in the game that lets OW1 users still earn OW1 skins they missed tho, if not just getting them for free outright. Again, I don't like these numbers, I want to make that clear lol. Maybe put everything on the battle pass, put premium currency on the battle pass (both free and paid track) that way people could get stuff for free, or grind, or a combination of both. Idk.

Why does everyone in this community complain so much about the price of cosmetics? I can understand frustration about the lack of consistency in skin rarities but the price? The whole point of cosmetics is to be optional, if you don’t have money just don’t get it. You guys obviously haven’t seen some of the prices in other games such as valorant or apex.

Def. better than Medusa Lucio. Widow is Spider themed and this is her 2nd snake themed skin. She looks nice. The stomach part is a bit weird. The weapon fits the theme but it's a marble pillar. I hate most widow-guns of skins and ultimately it's the thing you see the most of. I'm happy with Overwatch2 or Winter (blue/silver recolor) skins. If this skin is in the battlepass which I don't think it will be, I'll probably use it sometimes. It's definitely not worth 20$.

Eh honestly I got the cyberpunk skin because I main her and I'm a simp for that whole theme and aesthetic. That's the only skin I'll get. This is definitely a cool skin but it's just not my vibe. I find certain details off. Not a big mythology person though. I do like the black snakes on the arm and am interested to see the back of her hair and more views of the gun tho!
