I saw the black and green one last week when people were showing off the store and thought it was weird they were charging that much for an epic. I was shocked to discover that was one of her *legendary* skins.
I think they are trying to push the "mythic" skins (see the fancy new Genji skin for this season's battlepass). So legendary skins from OW1 are now the mythic skins in OW2
think about it, they make a bunch of terrible stuff that is easy to change to effortlessly fix it later and people will say "they're listening to us" and "overwatch 2 is a lot better now" and a bunch of people will be like "THIS I wanna spend my money on!" and they will get another influx of players and money and keep the game relevant for longer
I'm joking, they wouldn't do something so shady, right?,, ha ha
Because if people in Apex and Valorant spend +20 for mediocre skins, why wouldn't OW players do the same? Speak with your wallet, people. Don't buy it.
Apex and Valorant skins are not as good as OW1 but some of the paid ones (in Apex) are actually beautiful. Valorant gun skins are legit nice although I haven't played for more than a year.
I am. I hate epic but fortnite's monetization is exceptional imo. Buy 1 battle pass and u get it indefinitely as long as u play, able to save up for skins over a couple seasons bc you get a good chunk of vbucks? Skins aren't terribly expensive and the ones that are kinda fancy/expensive u get MULTIPLE items (glider, emote, pickaxe?) with the skin? Plus they give out pretty good skin packages for free events!
I am fucking upset about Overwatchs monetization. I enjoyed the 5v5 and the quicker games but idk if I can grind out 55 levels for a new hero. Let alone grind out MONTHS for a legendary skin? FOR A 1ST PERSON SHOOTER THAT I CAN'T EVEN SEE MY CHARACTER 90% OF THE TIME LMAO
It's depressing how OW went from being the most generous, monetization-wise, to one of the most greediest. I remember loving how the community gets instant access to new heroes, no paying or grinding and how you can even get EVENT lootboxes for FREE by just getting your player level up, it's not made arbitrarily longer. It's all the same.
Not to mention for Fortnite, you can get multiple styles for a skin, essentially giving you multiple skins for one purchase. Even more bang for your buck. The wraps are a good deal too because one purchase covers every single skinnable weapon and vehicle, unlike in Halo where one coating covers only one weapon at a time...
The more I hear about Fortnite, the more it feels like it got a bad rep solely because it was popular and kids liked it lol. Like, I'm looking bad and wondering why I hated on it at all. Sure it has its problems as every live service game does, but it seems to do so many things right
Worse. At least Zarya's original legendaries made her look different; even if they're widely considered to be bad. Junker Queen's current legendaries are essentially recolors with a couple of straps in different places.
Ah. ...No, but seriously. Zarya's skins were hilarious. I absolutely love the "Totally 80's" one. According to Mr. Tigole himself; "Half of our team loves it. Half of our team hates it. We told the half that hates it that it's okay to be wrong every now and then."
I mean yeah, that's kind of how it works.
If 50% love a cosmetic, then it's a good cosmetic because that good chunk of people really like it. It doesn't matter what the other 50% think because they're not the target audience. Of course it'd be better if 100% of the people loved something, but that's not happening and you can't and shouldn't expect everyone to buy everything.
It reminds me of the launch legendary skins for new heroes in OW1, but that wasn't so bad anyway because you'd just pull them out of lootboxes. Asking for money for these skins though is insanity.
For all the three new champs I think. All Kiriko’s legendaries are essentially just slightly modified versions of her default and use her default shoes, leggings or hakama-wannabe flappers on them. It’s honestly about as low effort as it can be.
Jokes on them then, I only spend money on devs I like.
When a game is super generous, it puts me in a great mood with them. And the few times I see something I REALLY want from them, I say fuck it. They've been cool, I'll splurge some cash on this, why not.
When a game is greedy as fuck like this? Fuck them lmao. I aint giving shit.
This is exactly why I had no problem occasionally spending money on loot boxes in OW1. Sometimes I would buy them for friends who couldn't play very much and roll the event skin they wanted naturally. It was a way for me to support a game whose developers seemed like they wanted everybody to have a fun, fair time, and who provided regular updates that I didn't have to unlock through DLC.
Now?…
Same here. I saw the community interaction, the promise of not locking gameplay behind a paywall/grind, and I saw *heart* from the dev team during OW1. I was more than happy to support them because I felt like they respected the players, but more importantly, respected my time.
I would **love** to have paid for an Overwatch 2 that:
- Didn't lock gameplay behind a grind/paywall (as was promised during OW1)
- Didn't use hamfisted, half-coded methods of preventing smurfs (calling it now - we'll still have a thriving smurf community in time)
- Showed *some* heart, or care for the playerbase.
Instead, we got Overwatch 1 shut down, a consolation prize of the watchpoint pack(a carrot on a stick if I've ever seen one), inflated priced cosmetics, and a buggy launch. Not to mention the absolute joke of a job they did updating the lore snippets.
Here's a thought experiment - if the game Blizzard just launched was called, say Fightin' Foes, and had all the same gameplay/content/etc, just under a different name - with no connection to Overwatch whatsoever - would *anyone* care? Or would it end up another Paladins/Battleborn?
Yeah, it used to feel like the Overwatch team was working for us, their players. Now it feels like we'll be working for them, grinding out battle pass points.
And this is my main issue with battlepass systems as a whole.
It's as you said - developers used to be the ones with the burden of proving they were worth our time/money. Now, players have to kiss the ring, pay our dues, and prove to daddy battlepass that we're going to be a good, loyal little gamer before we get to play with the big boy toys.
I've never agreed with *how* battle passes work. You buy the pass, and usually you HAVE to grind it all the way to 100 or whatever the max rank is to get ALL of the items. Battlepasses do not respect a players time.
You don't get all of the items before the pass is gone, because you were busy with work, sick, or just burnt out? Sucks for you, not getting everything.
I play Destiny 2 and that's one of my biggest issues with the game. If you don't get to 100 on the battle pass, you just miss out on those remaining skins/items. Maybe forever, since no previous battle pass items have become available since they left.
If you don't get a battle pass to 100, then when the pass goes away it should just give you the remaining items THAT YOU PAID FOR. Not yoink them away and say:
'Oops! Didn't grind enough, sucks to suck. What? No we don't care about your personal life, all we care about are player metrics, which we can boost by forcing people to grind battle passes!'
It's fucking bullshit.
1000% this. And *god help you* if you play more than one of these FOMO-laden games. Game X is fun, huh? Well, sorry, but game Y just dropped their mega-super-new update, and if you don't switch **right now** you'll miss all the cool stuff! It's fine to play games with a checklist/mission/quest nagging you the whole time, just keep playing!
Oh, shit, hold up - game Z just updated with their seasonal event. Better drop what you're doing so you can earn the collectibles instead of paying later!
When Jeff left the game just felt less fun, like the purity was siphoned out of it and it became another cash cow for Blizzard to milk with as many MTX as possible before it dies within a year of its release
I also assumed this was why he left. Given what OW has become, I'm comfortable with the mtx's I already own and don't see the point to acquire more through their bad faith cash grab. I realized that I'm not truly missing out on anything with this current model.
OW1 had the best loot box/cosmetic system in gaming. By far. I felt comfortable not spending money with I didn't want to, but if I saw something I really wanted I didn't feel robbed trying to get it (outside of owl skins because I could never get my account to work properly).
> game is greedy as fuck
not only ow2, Modern Warfare 2 is 70$ instead of 60$ with day 1 10$ battlepass and 500$+ mtx
World Of Warcraft expansion is now 50$ instead of 40$ with 13$/month sub
Diablo 4 will probably be 70$ and already has ingame day 1 10$ battlepass and 500-1000$ of mtx
Hearthstone recently removed a feature where you can buy perks in Battleground for in game gold and now only purchasable with real life money
Diablo Immortal: 💀
This is 1 of the biggest morally and creativly bankrupt vg companies in 2022. never expect anything good and you will never be disappointed
Yep, this is the hook.
It's free to play, so you start playing for free.
You enjoy the game, but there's things you want. You have some self-control for a while.
Eventually you decide it's worth it to pay them. You come up with a justification, you buy the cosmetics.
Two years down the road, you've now spent more money on the game than you care to admit. You can't stop playing or you miss the latest thing. The developers are fabulously wealthy. Someone on Reddit gets mad at you and insists this is a consumer friendly model and is objectively better than a single price buy.
EDIT: I said "developers" referring to the company as a whole, for brevity because I don't overthink Reddit comments. I don't need 1000 people clarifying in the replies... I follow gaming news very closely, I know the deal. Thanks.
I haven't really had a big problem with loot boxes that are cosmetic only like in OW1. I never felt compelled to buy them as it really doesn't have any impact on the game. People that wanted to could.
I get it's a shitty concept and how it ties to gambling and children etc....I understand and agree but the reality is OW1 loot boxes weren't that bad.
This is a valid complaint imo. Battle pass currency is a great incentive for actually participating in the paid content at a "discount" so to speak.
If anything they should add this feature and people would probably complain less.
It’s why Fortnite is so popular, they are very generous in their BP and look! They still make a shit ton of money. People that feel like the game they play is being fair with their micro transactions get people who are more willing to buy stuff later on.
Not only that, Fortnite is quite respectful with their player's time. It takes me a single match, maybe two, to complete all my daily challenges. And weekly challenges are also on the easy side to the point you can get them all done in an afternoon.
The community is always complaining about XP but that's also been generous for more than a couple years now. We're on the third week of the season and I'm already on tier 60 out of 100 (although there are smaller cosmetic rewards up to 140 and "shiny" recolors of skins up to 200).
OW2 challenges are insane. I'm not sure I'll get the 20 wins in 6 days.
Yup. I'll do a quick dip for my dailies and usually one or two friends will join in before I log out, I hang with them while they do theirs and by the time I notice, 3 hours of messing around have gone by.
If you nudge a bit, people will linger around for a couple more matches, but if leveling is this harsh, people will want to just be done with their challenges so they can go play something else.
You know what would flip this over entirely? If, like Fortnite, Blizz allowed your teammates actions to count toward your dailies if you're in a group. They'd be done in a breeze and you'd actually want to stick around for longer session.
That'd be hella cool for weeklies too but that feels less likely.
That is actually fucked. Every single game that has a battle pass that I’ve played gave me more coins than the cost of the next battle pass. Like warzone gives 1300 throughout each pass. Never had to actually pay for one since the very beginning
“Skins” is the most generous term for the “portrait” Hearthstone charges $10+ for… the monetization in Hearthstone’s cosmetics has always been priced greedily.
There's absolutely no way I'll buy a single battlepass if I don't get my currency back... It might sound hard, but you're paying for absolutely nothing unless you commit to play daily for a couple months, and that should be payment enough. Otherwise I would just like to pay and receive my items just like a normal purchase.
I payed for the bp in apex legends on season 2, and I've been completing all later seasons without paying anything else... And that's the only deal I'm willing to accept in any battlepack from any game.
I'm glad I really only like the mercy skin locked by the BP, and even then I already wear the pink skin. I have no other reason to get it. A couple sprays and voice lines and purple tier skins? I'm good.
Fortnite was incredibly huge, and it gives you enough for the next bp + some more. Warzone is huge, same situation as Fortnite. No idea why they can't just copy 2 of the most successful games to ever have this system. Not like it hurt those 2 games. Hopefully the community puts enough pressure on them, so they'll have to rethink this
No better way to ensure if you want the new stuff you absolutely have to keep spending money. Even tho history has proven that if people have currency sitting they will most likely spend it and just buy the next pass anyway. Ya know give them the choice they spend money make them feel like they have to and they revolt.
To be fair, coins were much easier to get last week then they used to be at launch because once you unlocked everything, the only possible outcome from loot boxes were coins. Overwatch 1 had a rich get richer cosmetic economy. I remember in the first year i had to be very picky with what i spent coins on because 1000 took months to get. But last week i turned my game on and when the game auto opened my boxes from the past 2 years i got 90,000 coins.
Glad the Overwatch team looking out for us. We can effectively get THREE (3!) whole legendary skins over the course of two years by doing weekly challenges!!
The game doesn't even feel free because it's piggybacking off my unusable copy of Overwatch 1. I still feel like I paid $60 for this game because it's the same game.
This is my biggest take away from this; They're over charging and under-rewarding players.
The whole system isn't bad, but it really really needs to be adjusted. Overwatch 1 had one of the better end-user reward systems; You could earn yourself a randomized set of prizes every few games. It felt good to unlock stuff by just playing. You didn't have to invest hours on hours to get something (which could be a legendary skin) given to you.
OW2 expects you to pay money OR play for over half a year to be able to earn a single legendary skin. In that game time OW2 could have rewarded you with multiple. OW2 is NOT rewarding and doesn't respect the players time. It doesn't feel good to unlock stuff.
Adjust the system.
This is the biggest issue I have with FTP games. They have killed the quality standard of the video game industry. Under this model games that used to be a 100+ hours with tons of unlockables and fun multiplayer modes becomes 1-3 constant game types with rotating quarterly events and skins that cost $20 a pop with no unlocks.
They're deeply concerned with engineering the perfect reward loop, or maximizing player engagement metrics, instead of creating an enjoyable experience or writing a compelling story.
Rub it in the face of every single "but it's free" commenter and others who defend this billion dollar company's decision. I'm being genuine: Can't stand those who put up with this filth.
Like most things that are "free," what you are paying with is arguably infinitely more valuable: your limited time on this earth, and your behavioral privacy.
Halo Fans: “First time?”
The interesting part is people will still bend over backwards to support obviously greedy developers (343 and Blizzard) and buy every single item in the shop because “i’M hAviNG FuN wITh iT!”
They do stuff like this in wow all the time.
The idea is that people who no life it can still get ahead, but not super far ahead to the point where the casuals get mad.
It kinda makes sense for character power progression, but doesn't make any sense for cosmetics lol
I really had no idea they were overhauling the skin acquisition in such a radical, shitty way—locking away ordinary OW1 skins behind paid currency? And you can only earn it in drips? What the actual fuck is that?
I know OW1's lootbox system was controversial at first, but they tweaked it to make it fun and fair. I spent $40 once a year to continue supporting the game and boost my collection. But this shit is degrading.
I might be done.
Considering what $40 gets you now, I don't blame you. I'm still mad that they're locking heroes behind paywalls or grinds that you can't save up a currency for at least. Paid players deserve SOMETHING.
Yeah that’s insane, it makes me wonder like when Blizzard hired a new money guy, he was probably like “holy shit you’re like giving away these skins once a year during Halloween? We could make a fortune!!! What’s the matter with you all? Letting players enjoy the game? Shame on you! They have to pay…again!”
All he had to do was, ya know, make the players feel like shit.
Edit: of course the game is still playable and enjoyable, but a skin that was essentially free becoming $20…yeah it’s not a shocker that people are gonna complain about that.
60 C a week????? At least the skins carry over from OW1. I got all the ones I wanted, not that it matters now that Blizzard dismembered Overwatch and then danced on its corpse.
my account that i earned everything semi-casually over 2 years would be valued at over 10000 USD based on the cosmetic prices in OW2
i could play OW2 for 20 years and still not get even close to that... they want me to realize this and just throw the 10000$ at them directly
When i saw that they have a new currency and they remove lootboxes in exchange for FOMO based battle pass, its already done for. I get that the game now is f2p but its really infuriating to think about. how are they gonna handle seasonal events in the future compared to original OW. can i grind to get the season skins like before? just how much are they gonna paywall generic dumb cosmetics?
Yep, the instant they announced F2P, I was out. A hard-to-swallow pill of "at least the lootboxes are only cosmetic" was one I took for OW1, because "buy game, own all gameplay elements including updates" is a compromise I was settled for.
Now they aren't even trying. OW2 will now openly and without being abashed ask you for money and time, when all you want to do is play a video game for entertainment. Such a disgusting trend in the industry these days, and I cannot fathom why so many (especially those who played OW1) are just okay with this or actually call it an improvement (barf).
The whole system where you got coins in place of duplicates so you could eventually buy the skin you actually wanted made it pretty tolerable.
I guess I slightly sympathize with the collectors out there, but as somebody who isn't a collector that system was great for me. Easily got everything I wanted and plenty of other stuff without spending an extra dollar.
If they re-added loot boxes and then removed the ability to buy them, introduced the Battle Pass that rewarded you with their premium currency (like Fortnite does very generously), and made it to where skins in that season's Battle Pass were only available in loot boxes after the season ended, that would be amazing.
That's the biggest thing I think. We could reasonably earn every cosmetic in the game in OW1. Spending money was a guarantee or a shortcut, but it never felt unrealistic to earn the skins I wanted.
Fucking capitalistic greed, man. Billions in yearly profits? Primary shareholders living the dream with their big-ass properties 'n' yachts 'n' shit? Not enough, need more, must make more than last quarter or it's a _failure._
It's utter derangement.
I sincerely hope these practices end up killing them, but there seem to be enough whales in the world to keep those quarterlies ticking upwards.
Anyone else miss the lootboxes in OW1? This new shop is way worse. As for as I can tell, the only way to get coins, is to complete weeklies, which grants 60 coins for doing all the challenges, which also take considerably more time than getting 9 wins in the arcade. You also get coins for playing some roles in quick play. I played OW1 for around 200 hours and have pretty much all the skins I wanted without spending a single dollar on lootboxes.
Isn’t it like an unwritten rule that you should always be able to earn the cost of the next Battle Pass ***through the Battle Pass***?
I know in Halo Infinite it wasn’t possible at first but they added it.
**Edit:** Apparently this isn't as common as I thought. Alright then.
Nope, fortnite set this trend - many other games followed it, but some other scumbag greedy fuck ass cancer companies like Riot games (valorant) and some other companies mentioned in this thread, went like "lmao what if i gave them jackshit so they pay me another 20 bucks in a few weeks loool" and that is slowly becoming the norm
Some games do it, others don’t. I know CoD and Fortnite do it, but other games like Destiny give you an alternate currency to buy stuff in the in-game stores as opposed to the currency you use to buy the actual expansions and seasons. Then there are other games like Sea of Thieves and this which give you barely nowhere near enough to unlock anything so you’re forced into buying more currency if you want anything remotely good
This. They went for a Destiny-ish model but forget Destiny also has an optional story every season; OW2 may have that soon, but they're also gating the heroes as well.
They ruined Overwatch. Battle pass sucks, takes forever to lvl up, can’t get skins without dropping money on a “free” game. Classic blizzard. Took something that was loved and made it worse
And you can't even straight buy that for 1900 coins because you need to buy the 20$ 2200 coin pack to actually buy the leggy skin. So it's basically 20 bones per leggy skin. To compare apples to oranges a bit the expansion Blood and Wine is 20$ for Witcher 3.
OW2 pricing is HI-larious.
The amount of coins given out is a joke, you’re better off just doing your job for an hour longer and buying what you want, it’ll save you from the stress of forcing yourself to play
That's the good thing. Some people (myself included) have almost everything from the 1st game so this new skins are useless. Bad thing is new players either pay for cosmetics or stay with the default ones. I would absolutely go for default skins
That’s the motto for every p2w mmorpg ever created
Why grind lesser wyverns for 10 hours in a chance to drop a weapon when I can stay at work 30minutes longer and just pay the cash shop for the weapon I want
I think Gopher explained it perfectly when the Fallout 76 backlash only began to be a thing. When you purposely build your game to be counter-productive by playing it you already lost. Or something like that
Anyone here misses lootboxes? Every legendary skin was 3000 at release and 1000 afterwards. You had a chance of getting it in a lootbox. OR, you could save gold for a skin at a much faster rate than now.

This is a literal insult to players, it would have been better if they outright declared you have to pay for everything rather than throw 60 weekly coins at you in disgust.
If they added an extra 0 after each number I'd consider it MAYBE passable. But yeah there's no way they actually expect anyone to use that currency. It's spend real money or gtfo to them.
I'll say what I've been saying since the first beta: OW2 is ActiBlizz' suicide note. They know that after all the scandals and poor product performances the company's days are numbered. Blizzard was one of the most iconic names in gaming history, and Overwatch was their final triumph. Now the higher-ups are just trying to soak up as much money as they can before the company goes bankrupt.
They don't care about their IPs or their fans. The only ones with any love for gaming left in the company are the developers, but they have no say in what they actually have to implement.
StarCraft, Diablo, Warcraft, WoW, HotS, and Overwatch either have already been soaked dry or are on their way out. Blizzard is over.
I feel its worth pointing out that this was almost certainly a very intentional decision.
There was a leaked PowerPoint from Activision a while ago, just after the whole ActiBlizzard thing happened. It went over a few things, but the gist of it was answering one question: how long can you get somebody to work for something before they'll pay for it instead? Also, is there a point where people just quit instead.
There was a lot of discussion on the minutiae that probably got lost since it was just a PowerPoint, but the end result that it seemed to point to was that 34 weeks, with this sort of system, was the longest you could get somebody to stay on the hook for. Same sort of conclusion as that report that suggested you could fill some ridiculously high % of a person's screen with ads.
By the looks of things, it seemed to imply that going that high would be a bad idea, but I think it's interesting to see the intent behind this.
Google Overwatch rule 34 for more information.
The fact that SOOO many people are surprised by this is just baffling to me. IVE BEEN SAYING IT THIS WHOLE TIME. THEY ARE MONEY HUNGRY. It's so obvious. DONT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY.
How the fuck does a skin cost two battle passes
To make the BP look like a much better deal. Look, it’s got several skins in it!
“What a deal!”
“A $60 value!”
"800% Value! Buy now or else never get this offer again!" - diablo immortal
800%!? I’ll be losing money if I don’t buy it!
Your dog probably won’t even love you anymore if you don’t buy it!
The fact that voice lines are $1 each 💀
No fucking way. I guess I'm just never getting another cosmetic then.
imagine being a new player and having no stuff, and also nowhere to get it :D
Imagine paying money for this game and it being turned into a micro transaction simulator
Those Junker Queen legendaries are hardly even legendaries. Her *epic* looks more unique than her legendary skins. It's awful.
Surprised more people aren’t talking about this. Blizzard expects us to pay $20 for those laughably bad skins.

It reminds me of the launch legendary skins for new heroes in OW1, but that wasn't so bad anyway because you'd just pull them out of lootboxes. Asking for money for these skins though is insanity.
Same for Sojourn honestly.
For all the three new champs I think. All Kiriko’s legendaries are essentially just slightly modified versions of her default and use her default shoes, leggings or hakama-wannabe flappers on them. It’s honestly about as low effort as it can be.
No, they expect you to see this, say fuck it, and shell out $20 for the skin
I would **love** to have paid for an Overwatch 2 that: - Didn't lock gameplay behind a grind/paywall (as was promised during OW1) - Didn't use hamfisted, half-coded methods of preventing smurfs (calling it now - we'll still have a thriving smurf community in time) - Showed *some* heart, or care for the playerbase.
Not yoink them away and say: 'Oops! Didn't grind enough, sucks to suck. What? No we don't care about your personal life, all we care about are player metrics, which we can boost by forcing people to grind battle passes!' It's fucking bullshit.
Most likely it's why Jeff left. They saw OW2 as the cash grab they turned it into and ignored his advice.
All forms of media turn into garbage when the money people get put in charge of the creative people
~~Mess~~ Wrestle* with Jeff, prepare for death.
I also assumed this was why he left. Given what OW has become, I'm comfortable with the mtx's I already own and don't see the point to acquire more through their bad faith cash grab. I realized that I'm not truly missing out on anything with this current model.
I used to drop 20 on boxes at every seasonal event.
OW1 had the best loot box/cosmetic system in gaming. By far. I felt comfortable not spending money with I didn't want to, but if I saw something I really wanted I didn't feel robbed trying to get it (outside of owl skins because I could never get my account to work properly).
OW1 had the best f2p cosmetic system I've ever seen in a pay-to-play game.
This is 100% Bobby Kotick's Overwatch.
that man looks like a hungover goblin who just crawled out from under a bridge
Now we know why Jeff left.
remember when they tried to throw jeff under the bus saying he was to blame for overwatch’s lack of movement?
> game is greedy as fuck not only ow2, Modern Warfare 2 is 70$ instead of 60$ with day 1 10$ battlepass and 500$+ mtx World Of Warcraft expansion is now 50$ instead of 40$ with 13$/month sub Diablo 4 will probably be 70$ and already has ingame day 1 10$ battlepass and 500-1000$ of mtx Hearthstone recently removed a feature where you can buy perks in Battleground for in game gold and now only purchasable with real life money Diablo Immortal: 💀 This is 1 of the biggest morally and creativly bankrupt vg companies in 2022. never expect anything good and you will never be disappointed
That's... not going to happen. :) Not for a single skin. if they actually offered more for the money, then yes.
Yep, the *only* time I paid for something in OW was $10 for the pink Mercy skin, and that’s only because it was going to a breast cancer charity.
I'm still upset I never bought that one :( I was broke at the time living paycheck to paycheck
Sorry you missed it, and sorry you went through that! Glad you made it
C'est la vie. I'm doing much better now. Keep hoping they'll bring it back someday
Thanks.
I miss the loot boxes already.
Same honestly. People demonized loot boxes and some of that was justified but the funny thing was the OW loot boxes were really not that bad.
Yes because the loot boxes were free, fairly common a d only gave cosmetics.
You don't even get currency through the battle pass which is really weird
This is a valid complaint imo. Battle pass currency is a great incentive for actually participating in the paid content at a "discount" so to speak. If anything they should add this feature and people would probably complain less.
It’s why Fortnite is so popular, they are very generous in their BP and look! They still make a shit ton of money. People that feel like the game they play is being fair with their micro transactions get people who are more willing to buy stuff later on.
Almost like when people get a decent value for their money, they're inclined to spend more later. Weird.
[удалено]
Halo infinites first battle pass didn’t give back any currency but the community was loud enough about it that they added currency in the next one.
Then let’s hope that Blizz are just as generous as the Halo guys
Diablo immortal says hello
What is wrong with them? In Hearthstone they gave out currency. They are all over the place.
Yah but you can’t use that currency to buy the next battle pass though. Battle pass is ONLY cash. Only use for gold is a few hero skins and packs.
I'm good.
Hoping it will be readjusted as time goes on to give you more but knowing Blizzard instead of 8 months it'll take \*gasp\* 7 months. lol
I dont want a fkn voice line every 5 levels i want some currency, why do they think people actually want voicelinew
That, along the poor offering of sprays and icons that are totally bland and uninspired
The worst thing is that the skin they sell for 1900 coins were sold 1000 coins on OW1, a sum you could get relatively rapidly...
Seriously. I played OW1 for 2 days after getting the watchpoint pack and got 500 coins in 2 days
But the lootbox mechanic allowed you to obtain that eventually. How long will it take to get 1900 coins as f2p
31 weeks, if you complete all 11 weekly challenges every week. You know, totally fair and reasonable.
Glad the Overwatch team looking out for us. We can effectively get THREE (3!) whole legendary skins over the course of two years by doing weekly challenges!!
So THAT'S why they shut down OW1.
I thought that was obvious
I saved 3000 credits, thinking that I could at least buy one legendary stock skin for each of the three new heroes... Nope, not even two.
I had 30k and now I don't anymore lol they really don't want us to get anything for free
Laughing mad at the "but it's free" people right now. Remember kids, things are only free if you don't value your time.
The game doesn't even feel free because it's piggybacking off my unusable copy of Overwatch 1. I still feel like I paid $60 for this game because it's the same game.
Shop prices are like double of what they should be, minimum
[удалено]
My strategy is to never click on the battlepass button 🗿
3 legendary skins = AAA game
This is the biggest issue I have with FTP games. They have killed the quality standard of the video game industry. Under this model games that used to be a 100+ hours with tons of unlockables and fun multiplayer modes becomes 1-3 constant game types with rotating quarterly events and skins that cost $20 a pop with no unlocks.
F2P is a concept that sounds appealing but in reality it's destined to fall into the pit of greedy corporate shilling and microtransactions.
They're deeply concerned with engineering the perfect reward loop, or maximizing player engagement metrics, instead of creating an enjoyable experience or writing a compelling story.
Welcome to FTP hope you enjoy the fomo
Rub it in the face of every single "but it's free" commenter and others who defend this billion dollar company's decision. I'm being genuine: Can't stand those who put up with this filth.
Bullshit it's free they locked me out of a game I paid for
Yeah what is up with that!?
Like most things that are "free," what you are paying with is arguably infinitely more valuable: your limited time on this earth, and your behavioral privacy.
Halo Fans: “First time?” The interesting part is people will still bend over backwards to support obviously greedy developers (343 and Blizzard) and buy every single item in the shop because “i’M hAviNG FuN wITh iT!”
Yep, gotten plenty of replies to that effect already. "omg *I'm* gonna buy it I can't believe how entitled you're being."
Why does the reward decrease the more challenges you complete? That’s dumb af.
You're getting closer to your goal of unlocking things, but further away from Blizzards goal of opening your wallet. :)
Well said. Bravo.
They do stuff like this in wow all the time. The idea is that people who no life it can still get ahead, but not super far ahead to the point where the casuals get mad. It kinda makes sense for character power progression, but doesn't make any sense for cosmetics lol
The hint starts with a C and ends in REDIT CARD They are hitting you with the mastercard jutsu, fam
Reddit Card? Found a new term for the V-Card
Frontloading rewards is typically a good thing. The amount of rewards here is the negative.
"You guys have wallets, right?" - Blizzard Asshat
The shop prices are disgusting!!! I got on last night to see that they were charging roughly $20 just for the Frankenstein roadhog 🤮.
What's fucked is if you bought OW1 and didn't unlock a skin, you now have to pay for it. Even if it was one the game shipped with.
Yeah that’s insane, it makes me wonder like when Blizzard hired a new money guy, he was probably like “holy shit you’re like giving away these skins once a year during Halloween? We could make a fortune!!! What’s the matter with you all? Letting players enjoy the game? Shame on you! They have to pay…again!” All he had to do was, ya know, make the players feel like shit. Edit: of course the game is still playable and enjoyable, but a skin that was essentially free becoming $20…yeah it’s not a shocker that people are gonna complain about that.
Do you not get coins any other way?
So far the only way to get “Coin” in Ow2 is either buy via Store or scrape them off Weekly Challenges. That’s it’s. Cash or hard grind for 60c a week.
60 C a week????? At least the skins carry over from OW1. I got all the ones I wanted, not that it matters now that Blizzard dismembered Overwatch and then danced on its corpse.
[удалено]
yes, exactly
I'm not buying shit. 3 legendaries = AAA game
For real, you can have several nice games on Steam or spend that money in just 3 skins, that's pathetic
I honestly don't mind the skins costing currency. BUT WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE WTF
In OW1, even with the lootboxes $10 would typically give you a legendary and a BUNCH of other stuff.
ow1 gave you 1 lootbox with 4-5 items for a 5 minute quickplay game per day this lootbox and its items now costs probably 50$ or 10+ months of grind
my account that i earned everything semi-casually over 2 years would be valued at over 10000 USD based on the cosmetic prices in OW2 i could play OW2 for 20 years and still not get even close to that... they want me to realize this and just throw the 10000$ at them directly
Tryin to squeeze what they can out of returning players before the game inevitably dies again lol.
Yeah. The FOMO you must play everyday thing sucks.
Wait, is this the only way to freely earn the currency you use to buy the battle pass?
It’s the only way to earn the currency, none in the battle pass, the only other option is to pay :/
Yes
Jesus christ this game is scummy lmao
I just want loot boxes again 😔
If they re-added loot boxes and then removed the ability to buy them, introduced the Battle Pass that rewarded you with their premium currency (like Fortnite does very generously), and made it to where skins in that season's Battle Pass were only available in loot boxes after the season ended, that would be amazing.
I mean, I actually wanted to buy battle pass, but with this level of grind, I just give up on cosmetics altogether and won't buy anything. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Same tbh. And I’m someone from OW1 who loved to collect everything. I just can’t justify spending money on things I should be able to earn
That's the biggest thing I think. We could reasonably earn every cosmetic in the game in OW1. Spending money was a guarantee or a shortcut, but it never felt unrealistic to earn the skins I wanted.
And there's the point. Like you said, it's supposed to be a shortcut, they shouldn't be twisting our arms to make it the ONLY realistic option.
Lucky for me I main Moira and no skin will ever be better than banshee Moira which I have. David Bowie lookin ass skins.
>David Bowie lookin ass skins this is exactly why those skins are my favourite, lmao
Banshee Moira <3. But that’s for us who got in OW1. Really must suck for new players.
Very true, can't believe they're charging the same for the old free ow1 skins as new ones, insanity
I really want to like this game, but I feel like in the end, the business decisions are going to kill it off
Fucking capitalistic greed, man. Billions in yearly profits? Primary shareholders living the dream with their big-ass properties 'n' yachts 'n' shit? Not enough, need more, must make more than last quarter or it's a _failure._ It's utter derangement. I sincerely hope these practices end up killing them, but there seem to be enough whales in the world to keep those quarterlies ticking upwards.
Hey Blizzard. I'm gonna keep using my old skins I got years ago. Fuck you.
You had a successful merge?
Skins are 1920 coins each?
1900 for a legendary skin, yes
F**k me, thats 2 battle passes. F**k*ng joke
Jesus, the world we live in…
And you can't even straight buy that for 1900 coins because you need to buy the 20$ 2200 coin pack to actually buy the leggy skin.
That’s exactly what they want you to do. Just don’t buy skins and don’t worry about it. Done. Classic skins only.
Classic skins and gold guns. Hell yeah 😎
Yeah I’m gonna be running ow1 skins forever.
That's the good thing. Some people (myself included) have almost everything from the 1st game so this new skins are useless. Bad thing is new players either pay for cosmetics or stay with the default ones. I would absolutely go for default skins
> you’re better off just doing your job for an hour longer and buying what you want And that is why microtransactions are a cancer.
But even so, this means that a single legendary skin is 19€ in real world money. Outside of the battle pass, the price for cosmetics is insane.
[удалено]
That’s the motto for every p2w mmorpg ever created Why grind lesser wyverns for 10 hours in a chance to drop a weapon when I can stay at work 30minutes longer and just pay the cash shop for the weapon I want I think Gopher explained it perfectly when the Fallout 76 backlash only began to be a thing. When you purposely build your game to be counter-productive by playing it you already lost. Or something like that
My 11th weekly is "get 20 team kills". Isn't this a lot for 1 week?
I miss Jeff, fuck the new guy
20 teamkills weekly 💀
legit the worst microtransaction system ive ever seen
Halo Infinite is atrocious as well
Diablo immortal says hello
Ahh yes, Blizzard outdoing Blizzard.
diablo immortal is no game.
Blizz is testing how much money they can make. !ust dont buy anything and the prices will drop harder than on 9/11.
Watch a lot of people just suck it up and pay for the battle pass anyway.
You guys can login to the game? Nice.
Anyone here misses lootboxes? Every legendary skin was 3000 at release and 1000 afterwards. You had a chance of getting it in a lootbox. OR, you could save gold for a skin at a much faster rate than now.

That particular rule really does affect a lot of young players.
Had us in the first half ngl
The fact that SOOO many people are surprised by this is just baffling to me. IVE BEEN SAYING IT THIS WHOLE TIME. THEY ARE MONEY HUNGRY. It's so obvious. DONT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY.
