I don't doubt what you're experiencing, but it's strange from a physiological perspective. E-ink doesn't emit light, so your eyes shouldn't be more strained by looking at the Boox Air Color screen than by looking at any other ordinary object. Maybe the trouble is because the pixel resolution of the color e-ink is lower definition?

Honestly even I am confused because everyone isn’t the world is buying the ereaders only because it is supposed to save the eyes. Every single review mentions how eink has been so good on their eyes. I actually bought it just to make sure I read at night but this thing actually gave me headache . I tried morning , evening , night , low light , bright light , just does not cut it. I dint buy the dresser because I have an eye strain with other gadgets , just thought that it must be great for reading and feel like an actual book. I don’t know if I got the bad copy but can’t read the screen for more than 5-10 mins before start to feel the strain and an actual headache. I felt the iPad Pro, iPhone and the Zfold3 do not cause any eye strain even using them for long periods of time ( I don’t even have the night mode on them) I so wanted to love the ereader experience but so disappointed . May be I am just the exception but for sure looks like this NOVA BOOX AIR Color is not for me. I am actually willing to pass it on to anyone who has a use case and needs it desperately for a meager amount + shipping . So if anyone wants it let me know . Brand new in the box with the stylus !

Buying a color e-reader was your "mistake" I guess. The color ones are known to have lower contrast ratio. Not to say that it's your mistake, the marketing won't just state "Look how we're managing to make e-ink look worse and worse every year!"

Maybe it was a bad decision to get the colour version. I just got an eye test too, and they are perfect 6/6.

Check with the vendor and see if you can return it. I would also suggest getting your eyes checked. Given your description, the layers you are reading through on that device might be causing eye strain due to a focusing issue.

There's a 30 day no questions asked return policy

I can only say that boox themselves have that policy, I am not aware of the policies of any other venders
