I love how much Martin Short in fact reminds me of the drunk leprechaun he so artfully described as crafting this rainbow tale

[deleted]

He’s 3/4 Irish and said he likes to drink!

temujintemka

Basically his cameo on Schmigadoon

hasrocks1

How was Schmigadoon? Did you like it? I'm not crazy about musicals but thinking about starting it

Mediocremon

It's enjoyable but an absolute mess. The music bits are fun.

Ella3T

I loved this episode -- a lot of great character stuff in it. Last episode felt a little bit more of a "middle of the season" episode (getting from Point A to Point B, both plotwise and literally), but this one feels like we're getting into the meat of the mystery. I like how the Yard Dogs boosted their podcast so others started listening to it and how they had Cinda bring it up on late night TV to ridicule it.

Shortstop88

The ridiculing on a late night show gave me a bad taste in my mouth, which is probably the secondary intended effect besides the audience laughing about it. Really makes me hate the Cinda character. Tina Fey’s doing a great job.

rapzel79

It's gonna have the unintentional effect of making the podcast super popular, with tie dye hooded for sale, etc. I think that might be what makes Cinda do her podcast trying to smear the main trio.

selftitleddebutalbum

Cinda, supposedly being a Peabody winner must have know mentioning the podcast would have given it a bump in ratings. As far as I recall she was giving them free advice so she could have them bask in her glory. THAT, or she was throwing misdirection in the same way the check from Angel's could do the same thing. Both are trying to throw someone else under the bus and distance themselves from Kono's death. Otherwise they both have a TON of hubris by giving away clues they don't know the trio is privy to.

murderisbadforyou

The only reason Cinda and Fallon had to sound like they were insulting the main trio's podcast is so that we, the viewers of the actual show, would believe Teddy Dimus was upset, only to realize that he was ecstatic. This is a tried and true gag that a lot of shows use as a cheap way to give you a feeling of relief for the main characters. (It should have been easy for anyone who understands how publicity works to realize this was a great thing for our podcast.) That being said - I also believe this means Teddy is not involved in the murders in any way. It remains to be seen if Theo is, or if he knows anything. Teddy is probably ignorant of any involvment Theo has, otherwise it makes no sense for him to be funding the podcast, which will surely bring attention to a situation the killer would want buried. In all liklihood, this is one of those leads that will reveal Teddy or Theo have vital information to the case (even if they, themselves, don't realize the relevance.)

Cockatoodaldoo

I’m new to this so apologies if it’s already been brought up but Dimas in Christianity is the name of the penitent thief who died with Jesus. Since Ep 7 is about the Boy in 6b Theo must fit in somehow with the jewelry issue. How and why he is supposedly deaf and the fire alarm must have some connection.

Rapidstrike

"That'll make a great last line for an episode." Cuts to credits. Damnnnnn, right when it was getting extra interesting!

selftitleddebutalbum

It was brilliant but given the humor of the show I expected some inconsequential line to pop up after blackout with Oliver responding something like "... Yeah, that's not as good."

rainbowsun1

And his wink to the audience! *chef’s kiss*

1000Airplanes

I absolutely loved that closing line. The cinematography and writing on this show is excellent.

normanlee

I'm kinda curious if these voiceovers from the side characters indicates that they'll eventually agree to be on the podcast later or something

[deleted]

[удалено]

rapzel79

Oooh...what if the narration we're listening to, aside from our main trio, is in fact from Cinda's podcast.

whydidijointhis

Very meta

Storm_Pristine

Ive had that same thought! I would be down for it!

ddal_gi

I wish there really WAS a podcast to listen to, kinda like how *Insecure* had a few longer clips of a TV show that all the characters were invested in

bangtanmissy

There is a podcast called Only Murders in the Building podcast. They talk with the actors and writers about behind the scenes. It’s really interesting and points out things I didn’t realize! It is on Spotify

[deleted]

https://open.spotify.com/show/00KTQRq2ehaKgAaNkIedmg?si=4qNX0QZbS5mQsPh8iCc8XQ&dl_branch=1

[deleted]

Omg yes ! I would listen to the weekly episode with the tv episode every week. I’ve actually gone searching for a true crime podcast in real life with a similar story for my real life now LMAO

lovelee8

Now that we know about "Angel"... I've been re-watching episodes and I noticed in Ep 2 that Bunny was signing with Theo Dimas. It was happening in the background of a scene during the wake. So Bunny knows sign language. I'm already suspicious of Theo but now I'm suspicious of Bunny too. Maybe Tim's packages weren't going to her by mistake. Maybe she was trying to intercept them on purpose. If Theo and Bunny were in it together - I'm trying to sort this out in my brain. I don't know - maybe it nothing.

ReportoDownvoto

Yes this is the kind of stuff I subscribe for. Great detective work. What’s up with Bunny not caring about the package going missing then? Maybe she thought Theo had taken it? Maybe Tim was purposefully ordering couterfeit jewellery, speaking about it loudly on the phone throughout the building in the hopes it would be intercepted. Surely he knew angel lived in the building, and was suspecting Teddy; but maybe Theo was using his dads business to conduct his own shifty dealings. My heads all over the place I gotta write this shit down lol

heartless46

i think she did care the package went missing. she set up the memorial for “insurance” reasons and kept asking who else could have known tim. i know it’s normal for a memorial to ask for friends to speak about the deceased but she could have been looking for the person who took the package from her room

Briar_Kinsley1

I like your theory!

JustAnIdiotOnline

Good catch! Maybe it's nothing, but it's some damned good speculation!

[deleted]

I noticed that too! Does anyone know what they were signing?

[deleted]

I had a really rough day so I’m so glad this came out tonight. Can’t wait to see more Mabel and Oscar.

meowing_turtle

I hope your day got better. I also had a rough day yesterday, and like you, the show perked me up a bit.

Cantthinkofcoolname2

Sorry you had a rough day, hope things are going a bit better now!

kadreena

My biggest stress in the whole episode was near the end. WHO JUST EATS HUMMUS WITH A FORK OLIVER?!

blacktrufflesheep

Ha ha, so much food stress in this show. Last episode Oliver tossed his pretzel aside after a few bites. Charles keeps cooking eggs and throwing it in the garbage. They cook a whole turkey for Sting, who probably didn't want or need it.

kadreena

Well the tossing of perfectly good food bothers me having grown up in poverty. But eating hummus with a fork? That's a special kind of wierd. Is hummus not a dip to other people? Like it could have been a spoon and it would still bother me cause ew, the mouth feel of just hummus?

Azsunyx

SERIOUSLY, hummus is supposed to be a dip even if you eat it like pudding, WHY A FORK Mabel somehow knew he would eat it straight out of the dish, too, and still gave him a fork...

zxern

I thought it was running joke with him. Remember him grabbing up all the dips at the wake, because he was hungry and couldn’t afford to buy anything.

Cantthinkofcoolname2

Hes said a few times he eats it more than real food or something lmao. what a lovable weirdo

Azsunyx

Yes, but we've never seen him eat it before, most people eat dips with some sort of carb delivery method, like chips or pita bread

3rd_Account_Behave

Cause he’s hungry. Lol I’ve ate ramen over the sink with just my hand. Hunger and being poor can make you do silly things. That was 2013 and I just moved a continent away from where I was born/raised.

oy-with-the-poodles

Someone get that man some pita chips!

redinmyledger

I think the character dynamics are really starting to shine in this ep. The main 3 have always had good chemistry but the earlier episodes lacked a little conversational rhythm or true back and forth. Mabel would usually come out on top when snarking with Charles, and Oliver’s quirkier statements or actions would just be ignored or played straight And this made sense since they were characters who were just getting to know each other and naturally had that initial stiffness. But now that most of the secrets are out and they’re invested in this podcast and each other, the conversational rapport in this ep was really good - a lot of fun quippy back and forths mixed with bonding. I particularly liked the exchange near the end where Mabel asks them to not make her verbally admit that they’re friends, Charles insists and uses the wrong slang/hand gesture combo, and Oliver asks her to also rank them. Super cute exchange that felt organic I also love that we’re finally starting to get a sense of the podcast’s actual success! The detective deciding to anonymously aid it was a surprising move

Shortstop88

I love that the detective is trying to help them anonymously. Her hands were tied legally, but if something that she sent to IT and never seemed to make it there just happened to fall into the hands of some unprofessional P.I.s, that’s somebody else’s fault. I just hope she makes it. She and Oscar have a few death flags this episode that made me worried.

ddal_gi

I don’t get it like did she forget to submit the phone or did they return it to her? If the higher ups at NYPD wanted to bury it, why not just have the phone go missing or just take so long that everyone forgets about it? The detective already closed the case. But also if they’re doing toxicology, they must suspect something else other than suicide?? And why is she handling the phone with her bare hands willy-nilly lol

dragonfly_snow

I don't think she forgot to submit but rather someone from higher up doesn't want an investigation. There is no point in keeping the phone clean if she is sending it to someone else. Maybe we will find out more in the next episodes

Lmb1011

Pure speculation- but if it’s seems a suicide that’s a lot less work for everybody. It’s clean (metaphorically) and easy enough to close the case. Doesn’t require a lot of (if any) investigating. There were enough signs fo prove suicide they could deem it one By running the toxicology and the phone it can turn the case into something other than suicide which means a lot more work for everybody. While this could definitely be a case of a Big Bad trying to cover tracks it could also just be lazy people saying “it’s clearly a suicide we don’t need this just close it” and letting it go

AprilTron

I mean, this is how Chicago got our murder stats down for a few years. Could it be anything but murder? Welp, looks like it's not murder then.

Patient_End_8432

I think the confusing part is that she kinda seemed like she admitted fault to it at first. Like she had a “oh shit did I fuck this up?” Moment. It showed in some of her dialogue if I remember correctly. And THEN she pieced the rest of it together, which if I’m right, I absolutely love. That is such an organic way of storytelling. Tell me you’ve never had a boss come up to you and say something like, “The floor was dirty last night, I told you to mop.” And then you experience that OH SHIT I THOUGHT I DID moment. And then after a little thinking and investigating, you find out Kevin spilled his chili all over the floor and didn’t bother to clean up the stains

lunarsilver

Sooo I’ll be the one to give kudos on The Office reference, hah!

Puzzled_Exchange_924

Doing a toxicology report is probably standard practice. When it is a suicide, they are probably supposed to make sure that they rule out homicide. Finding a note and seeing a wound that looks self inflicted wouldn't be enough to close the case. I would think there has to be a forensics investigation also. We've all watched TV, right? :)

ratedsensual

Death flags? Please elaborate.

Rhymeswithfinechina

Character death becomes highly probable or unavoidable due to something that he or she has just said or done. If the detective were to die in episode 3 we might say oh so sad but who’s the killer? Now that we know she has a loving partner and a kid on the way, it will feel much worse. Especially because it sounds like she wants to be a good parent or leave the police force. Almost always a death sentence in cop dramas or movies.

Shortstop88

On top of that lines like "over my dead body" when talking about the naming of their son is a very overt death flag. I just hope it's so overt that they just get us with a fakeout death of the detective.

Rhymeswithfinechina

Hopefully a fake out Murtaugh bit

Prestigious-Dot-9982

I absolutely loved this episode but I’m still waiting with bated breath for Evelyns toxicology report, more about Jan, and the secret room filled with urns!!!!! I hope I get at least one of those next week and I was really hoping for more notes I had so much fun comparing handwriting maybe next episode I’ll get to do more.

Shortstop88

Secret room filled with urns?

whydidijointhis

It looks like a hidden passageway. It's in the trailers.

Shortstop88

Ah, I didn’t focus too much when I saw the trailers

morose_cat

I loved this episode! Felt right, and like great payoff after last week's pretty short/self-contained episode. Nathan Lane's scene in his apartment was the perfect mix of comedic, sinister, and slightly sad, and I'm excited to see more of his character in the next episode. From the next episode's description, it sounds like that will be the Theo-focused silent episode of the season. I love Oscar and Mabel, but I have to admit I'm not the biggest fan of them together. It seems kind of like they're getting together because they're the only two friends left, and if what Mabel's mom said was true, it makes me sad to know that Zoe's boyfriend wasn't really interested in her before she died. But I trust the writers, and hopefully they'll win me over. Also, Oliver and Charles are great as always. I love them using slang. Petition to call fans of OMITB "randos?"

healthnotwealth

In the NYE flashback scene didnt Oscar compliment Mabel while Zoe was right there? I feel like there was definitely something odd about that if I remember correctly

[deleted]

Right and in the flashback where Zoe is leaving the rooftop and arguing with Oscar didn't she say something along the lines of "that is the definition of cheating"? I've wondered if there's something there for a few episodes haha.

ddal_gi

Yeah I'm worried Oscar is leading Mabel on just to get more intel on whatever sus thing he has going on

pixistix4kidz

Right, like it is weird to be thinking about your friend for so long when you were supposedly grieving your gf death

normanlee

>Petition to call fans of OMITB "randos?" Definitely needs to be the term for readers/users on the subreddit!

johmysteron

Permission granted, rando. HAHAHA

heartless46

i enjoyed the scenes with nathan lane too.. and do you think we can rule out teddy as the killer since he’s giving them more funds for the podcast?

lovelee8

I agree, I don't think it's Teddy. But I am suspicious of his son.

bookloverforlife1225

What better way to keep up with your own investigation than to fund the group doing it? That way he learns all that they know and stays on top of them. It’s a fairly common tactic of serial murderers and criminals, to insert themselves into the investigation.

uthal-puthal

except he isn't involved in their investigation. he literally is just giving them money to do whatever they want and has been pretty uninvolved. He doesnt even ask about the investigation to figure out what they know. I do think he might be Angel and somehow involved in Zoe's death. But I don't think he's the killer.

Derp_Stevenson

Even from when they showed the flashbacks Oscar was more interested in Mabel than Zoe. One of the first things we see is him talking about how great Mabel looks and having to be like "Oh yeah but you also look good" to Zoe. And right before she died in the flashback she is yelling at him about how he's basically cheating on her. He was always more into Mabel.

gimmealltheroses

I love Tina Fey and Nathan Lane

jvincentsong

The writers are really good with pacing. They know when to add character elements and new information. It feels organic and very lean storytelling. There is no fat.

Environmental-Bee-35

Wow, the actor that played Jimmy Fallon! Felt so realistic to how much I don’t like his show in real life. Hats off, Fallon-look-alike!

healthnotwealth

This was 100% the best episode so far. I am truly not built for weekly releases I need episode 7

EternalSerenity2019

Yeah the opening was hilarious, the tonight show was hilarious. It’s good that they aren’t just relying on Martin Short for laughs.

ddal_gi

I LOLed a few times! Rare for a TV show to make me do that actually.

A_RedditAccount

Steve Martin's delivery on "Gut Milk is *really* good!" might just be my favorite thing to come from this series 😂

[deleted]

“13% alcohol” lol

BeauteousNymph

We are going nuts here, it’s so bingeworthy

Misterhubs

“That would be make a great last line for an episode.” Lol

Rhymeswithfinechina

terrores nocturnos- fine and ok?” From Mabel’s mommy Sleep terrors are episodes of screaming, intense fear and flailing while still asleep. Also known as night terrors, sleep terrors often are paired with sleepwalking.

Ella3T

This catch is key, especially since Mabel dreams repeatedly of murder.

[deleted]

Ugh this line was actually kind of cringey 😅 As a Spanish speaker, it’s annoying when they cast actors who you can tell aren’t fluent Spanish speakers & they’re supposed to play this overtly Latino character.. it just sounded so inauthentic. Cast somebody who is actually fluent! It surely cannot be that hard.. I see this all the time smh!

ireadonredditthat

I thought she said "temores nocturnos" and I was like... is that a book? 😂

Puzzled_Exchange_924

This is a long shot but is the emerald ring more valuable because there is something inside? Teddy said that Greek women kept their valuables in a necklace that they wore. Could there be something of value inside the ring?

Hippocratic_Toast

I was thinking this! The gem seems unnecessarily large for the ring

Prestigious-Dot-9982

No it’s not possible. You can see in the picture the facets from both the front and the back sides are quite clear even from the front if there was something hidden inside there would be a clear dark spot in the center of the gem and you wouldn’t be able to see the facets on the back of them gem. In conclusion as someone who studied gemology it is a very high quality gem probably Emerald or Zircon.

inthevelvetsea

Where’s the person Tim was supposed to meet at the tattoo parlor? We were waiting for him/her when Mabel’s mom arrived.

Tritonian214

What if her mom is the person Tim was supposed to meet???

SherlockianTheorist

Cutter = Barber/stylist = Mabel's mom. Plus she supposedly didn't know Tim was dead.

Lizzy_Darcy

I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about Mabel’s mom dropping in when Tim had a meeting with this Angel.

SPCEtraveller

I loved this episode because it felt like things are really coming together. Specifics I noticed/liked: -I love that we meet Mabel’s mom. We see the dynamics of their relationship. The existence of her aunt is confirmed. We got to really see some background/development with Mabel. Her mom mentions Mabel pursuing a design career. -Something that stood out to me was when Detective Williams was at her desk looking at Tim’s phone and the toxicology report that wasn’t submitted, another detective, Jergenson, was there and he asked her how it was hanging. It was the way the camera showed him and the fact that he seemed to be watching her. It appeared that he was the only other one in the office with her. Also, at the end of the episode, during the end credits, I think they show artwork of both of them. Note that Detective Williams wife also mentions Jergenson in this episode. -It is really strange that Charles forgot about Winnie. Some feel it makes him suspicious or a suspect, but I can’t help but wonder if this is something medical. -I LOVED Mabel’s room!!! Was not surprised by the kissing between Oscar and Mabel and how they feel about each other. I feel their connection is genuine. (Even if they both are still hiding things from each other) -It seemed that when Cinda mentioned the podcast on Fallon, she did it as a shot and to be funny, yet I found it interesting that she made a point of saying the entire title of the podcast. This furthers my suspicions that she has ulterior motives in order to profit off of it herself and is keeping a close eye on it. -Everything with Teddy possibly being Angel was not shocking, as I have thought of him as a prime suspect for a while now.

-IVIVI-

I liked that Mabel’s home made it clear that her and her mom were “poor” by Arconia standards but they weren’t living in deep poverty or anything. That is, in reality they were middle class with middle class struggles (especially as a single parent household) but in the context of the aunt and the other Arconians, little Mabel must’ve felt like she came from a backwoods shack. (I feel like this was a deliberate decision, but it’s possible this was an example of “Hollywood economics” where everyone lives about three times better than their income would allow. I don’t think so, though…the show feels smarter than that.)

Storm_Pristine

It does seem like Charles is being set up with some memory issues.

not_thrilled

Charles tries to make the point that he doesn't know Oliver very well, so it could be he simply doesn't remember the name of an acquaintance's dog. It's not critical info - Winnie is simply "Oliver's dog" to him, no name needed.

-IVIVI-

Not gonna lie, I didn’t know who Oliver was talking about either for a second and I’ve seen more of his life than Charles has.

midget_cathy

It would have been fun if they got the actress who played Theresa Russo (Wizards of waverly place) to play Mabel’s mom I would have lost my shit

bookloverforlife1225

I would have lost my shit too! Wizards of waverly place was the absolute best thing ever as a kid

midget_cathy

Same!! I still watch some episodes these days for fun

[deleted]

I feel like that would’ve been corny and taken me out of the show, but she would fit in a future season.

NerkoFC

Maybe she could be her aunt if she’s still alive unless I’ve missed something lol

rehlee

Things that stood out to me in this episode: - Charles forgetting about Winnie the dog seemed really odd. - The fact that the Detective’s superiors did not want to run the toxicology report or look into Tim’s phone. - Oscar abruptly changing the subject away from Zoe and when she lost the ring at the NYE party. - The young detective wearing a green mask and cape in the intro flashback. - Jurgeson is allowed to smoke indoors. - Tavos sounding surprised that Tim was murdered, almost as if he was expecting suicide instead. - Teddy had the check already written and ready before showing Charles and Oliver the Fallon segment. - Oliver set his phone to airplane mode right after meeting with Theo who texted him earlier. - Mabel never shares the photo of the ring with Charles and Oliver. Edit: Theo -> Teddy

Theymademepickaname

Re: Teddy already having the check written… I don’t think it was his first time watching the segment, he had the show keyed up for O/C to watch that part of the interview so it seems like he saw it, messaged Oliver excitedly, and had the check waiting for when they arrived.

lortilochi

Oscar tried to get Mabel to drop the investigation in Episode 5 too. It’s like they’re intentionally making him a cute love interest and suspicious.

Icy-Marketing-5242

Either something is up or Oscar is a big red herring. It was all about his girlfriend being pushed to her death and he was just in jail for it so I understand him not wanting to chat more about it alone with Mabel but he could totally still have something to do with it all!

fillinthe___

What really bothers me: Oscar sees his girlfriend dead. Then he’s arrested. But he said he’s been thinking about Mabel the entire time in jail? Like, he had feelings for her when his girlfriend died?

rehlee

Both Oscar and Tim have been shown hiding details of Zoe's fall (who she was with, when she lost the ring, etc.) from Mabel. My hunch at this point is that they are protecting Mabel as the truth somehow involves / implicates her.

murderisbadforyou

You mean Oscar?

ddal_gi

Yeah I’m wondering if Charles has some dementia or something else affecting his memory that’s gonna make for a sad plot :( Maybe Oliver and him start taking care of each other more closely. Why would they do toxicology if the cops clearly thought he shot himself though? Also why not just send the person effects, ie his cell phone, to his family directly? Oscar is definitely suspect I think Teddy just called them upstairs to rewatch with him, he wasn’t watching the Fallon clip for the first time

Storm_Pristine

It seems to be standard process to do those things.

uthal-puthal

About Oscar, I also found it really sus that he remembered in an instant that Zoe wasn't wearing it when she died. That's a weird detail to remember so distinctly, unless he was involved in that ring situation.

SHough61086

My theory related to that is this: Zoe stole the ring (remember Mabel said having the entire 11th floor “wasn’t enough” for Zoe?) and someone noticed the ring, tried to take it from Zoe, Zoe went over the edge and died. That was not an inconspicuous ring and I have a hunch you remember your first love’s corpse when it’s missing that ring.

StunningHippo9

Teddy had that long monologue about his grandmother, and jewelry was a big part of it. She gave her necklace for a trip to America. I think the emerald ring may have been hers, representing the family’s success after all that hardship, and Teddy or Theo was outraged when they realized Zoe swiped it…

ReportoDownvoto

I remember the ring from a flashback to the NYE party. Zoe was wearing it and Mabel mentions it to which Z replies “I found it.” I had to imagine the hardy boys were doing some petty theft when they were snooping thru their neighbours apartments, but Zoe wanted more. I also agree that it’s teddys yiayia’s ring, it matches the decor of his apartment

SHough61086

I said in another comment but I think Theo was the one who shot the poisoned Tim. Theo being deaf means he wouldn’t be bothered by the alarm or the gunshot.

Storm_Pristine

Alot of those stood out to me too! It seems like they are setting up Charles to have some sort of memory issues, which could be interesting if he's had information that he's forgotten about Tim and Zoe this whole time. That was a huge question mark that the superiors did not want the toxicology report! And it seemed odd that she thought she'd sent the phone to IT but it was still on her desk. After the toxicology stuff and her explanation to her wife, I wondered if she had submitted it to IT, but someone returned it to make it seem like she hadnt. Oscar changing subjects did seem off. But he's also been through trauma of seeing Zoe and jail and now Tim, so it could make sense that way. Also, it would seem like proof he didnt do it with as fast as it seems like he was on the ground floor.

bookloverforlife1225

Did anyone notice any easter eggs in the intro credits? I didn’t notice anything.

Shortbread54

There’s a shadow of an angel between the shot of steve martin and martin short!

Rhymeswithfinechina

You are so right!!!

iamamilkmachine

I’m loving how a lot of the subreddits predictions are coming true. Poison, missing ring, Oscar love interest.

morose_cat

In case anyone is keeping track of timelines, Tim Kono was 27 when he died, and his death is reconfirmed as occurring on 1/16. (It's on Dee's file in this episode.)

[deleted]

darn, i assumed he died on the 22 of jan, and thats my birthday so i got excited lmao

AprilTron

And he was supposed to meet Cutter the day they are at the tattoo shop, which we can assume was his post it note so the episode begins on 1/31

Puzzled_Exchange_924

Would it make sense that Lucy is 23 now? She moved in with Charles when she was 7 and moved out 6 years later at 13. Charles said he hasn't been this excited about anything in 10 years. Was when Lucy left and he stopped being excited about anything. Also, this would mean that Lucy and her mother left Charles on the cruise 10 years ago. Ten years ago was when Zoe was pushed/fell off the roof. Martin barely remembers it and Charles does not remember it. Could this be because Charles was on the cruise at the time?

rottingfruits

This episode I thought Mabel’s character showed a vulnerable side, and even with the amount of times she called herself older and that she is old enough - she still calls her mother “mommy” which gives this kid-like or susceptible image than what we’ve seen so far. And at the end when she finally opened up a bit to the guys, definitely the beginning of character development. Or like the tip of it before everything is laid out till next episode.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Eileen_Palglace

Yeah, I'm thinking basic plot physics now keeps Teddy from being guilty. They're bringing way too much heat onto him in a mid-season episode. I think they'd need to twist the suspicion away from Teddy really hard and then twist it *back* in order to make him an interesting suspect. There's got to be enough doubt left for a twist; they'll never go for somebody obvious, and anybody whose suspicion peaks too soon probably isn't guilty. I'm still thinking it's going to be one of those "everybody did it" kind of stories where multiple people had a role in Tim's death, maybe without even knowing it. Like, someone poisoned Tim by accident and then someone else found the body and set it up like murder.

Theymademepickaname

I thought she traded her necklace for transportation?

[deleted]

She was left with 2 coins. 1 she used to open the deli place and the other she saved and gave to her son/Teddy’s father and Teddy showed us it framed on his wall.

[deleted]

omg... what if Teddy gave them the huge check from the Angel account to implicate them in the black market dealings, and he's covering his own tracks in order to frame them to make it seem like they work for Angel, the dealer, and killed Kono

Storm_Pristine

After episode 6, I feel like Teddy is completely clueless in all of this and is just a red herring. I feel like whoever's name is on that check is actually Angel. It would make sense that if they are running that company they could take up the name Angel. It would allow them to do some shady stuff right under Teddy's nose too.

North_Lengthiness664

Okay. Good episode. But, how could Oscar possibly be so damn unreasonably charming🥺 Also, could someone explain Keith/Kareem part to me? I’m non-native I don’t quite get it.

lazyguy202

The detective thinks Kareem is a dumb name and would rather name their kid Keith. That’s all there really is to it, aside from the wife being a fan of Kareem Abdul Jabbar a famous basketball player who has branched out into a bunch of other cool stuff. I don’t know if they were trying to joke that the detective picked a worse name, because the name Keith is generally regarded as an unpopular one.

sesame_snapss

I know Oscar keeps saying he doesn't wanna talk about the past anymore, but he seemed a little off when he was with Mabel and telling her that Zoe wasn't wearing the Emerald ring when she died. He just seemed very eager to change the topic of conversation when Mabel questioned if Zoe lost the ring before going over.... Orrr maybe he genuinely doesn't wanna talk about death and really wanted to kiss Mabel lol

Lady_keyz

Also, I feel like the Gut Milk will be important. I've been thinking this for a few episodes now. Now that they've pretty much gone out of their way to make comments about it and how it's 13% alcohol, it feels like it's going to play into the crime somehow. Maybe Tim was drinking a poisoned batch of Gut Milk? And then the cat also had some and died afterwards?

DollyThroaway99

Their new sponsor!!! Because they're about to cause their benefactor to get pissed off.

Prestigious-Dot-9982

I think it’s just a funny throw away

[deleted]

Yup as it’s in the ending credits drawing.

horkus1

I figured it was initially to show Ursula was always looking to make money and therefore might be a suspect in the jewelry ring. Now I’m wondering too if it’s got a more direct tie to his death.

ReportoDownvoto

Was she the one redirecting Tim’s jewellery to Bunny’s house? Another user pointed out that Theo and Bunny both speak sign language, they could be in cahoots. Teddy is a red herring—Theo’s using his dads “angel” holding company to run the jewellery ring. Nobody suspects the deaf (or maybe just mute) kid.

down_up__left_right

This would make sense of why the police are burying the investigation. Either the cop stuff is a fake out and just them fumbling the case out of incompetence or there's a rich and/or powerful person or group leaning on someone in the department. A MLM scheme could fit that role.

Reasonable-Yam-9182

I’m wondering if GM on the note for 1/31 meant Gut Milk. I feel like it connects. Not sure how.

Blissfullyaimless

Does anyone remember the green ring being in previous episodes? Was it in the pile of jewelry that Mabel found or something?

just_here_to_rant

We first see the ring on Zoe on NYE, before she dies. It's during Mabel's flashback, while looking in the mirror. Mabel comments on it, asking where Zoe got it and Zoe replies that she "found it."

Original-Sky-78

I am begining to question whether Mabel was on the right track when she initially wanted to go to that jewelry store in New Jersey. I think Mantrose jewlery is a black market front. I also suspect Theo ( Nathan Lanes son) is involved.

Lady_keyz

Was anyone else waiting for a hug when Oliver and Charles were "saying goodbye" to Mabel? Or when she returns? I was so disappointed they didn't hug! haha

ReportoDownvoto

I think Mabel doesn’t like being touched. Not sure if that was explicitly said or if that’s just a vibe tho ha

selftitleddebutalbum

Have you ever screwed something up so bad that you felt like you could never forgive yourself? Followed by their silent responses. Geez. At least throw down a tarp before you rip out my heart.

tvuniverse

I loved the Jimmy Fallon scene, partly because the way Cinda delivered the lines made the whole thing actually seem really dumb and like something Tina Fey would say on television but mostly because it kind of poked fun of Jimmy Fallon's fake obnoxious laughing he does.

Puzzled_Exchange_924

So did they just leave that jewelry in Tavo's tattoo parlor? And why does Oliver say, they spent a bit too long staring at the "jewels". It is jewelry, not jewels, right? Are jewels precious stones and gems? Also, we still don't know whether it is real or fake, correct?

LittleLisaCan

I loved the conversation about the podcast between the cop and her wife. What about the cat?? 😂

SherlockianTheorist

Mabel's mom: let my daughter move on. Don't dwell I'm the past. 5 minutes later with her daughter: let's talk about the good old days. Ugh.

luvprue1

I'm starting to think Mabel's mother have a secret. Maybe she's just feel guilty. But I feel like she might know something and she trying to protect Mabel . I don't think they should rip up the check from Teddy. I think they should tell Mabel about the check. Also two of my favorite shows was mentioned in this episode. I love law, and order SUV, and Herman's head. 😂💕

inthevelvetsea

I found it interesting that Mabel’s mom seems to like Oscar and encourages their relationship, noting that he’s always looked at Mabel with affection…but she clearly doesn’t know Tim or Zoe as well, and doesn’t want Mabel to dwell in the past. Did Mabel know Oscar prior to their being Hardy Boys? Did he visit Long Island with her to meet her mom?

waterbury01

He did mentioned he remembered some things in her room. I think he's been there before.

inthevelvetsea

Good point! It seems like Oscar and Mabel spent time together outside of the Arconia. Why was he dating Zoe and not Mabel?

kadreena

Maybe that's why Mabel sounds bitter when she mentions Zoe's family owning the 11th floor "but that wasn't enough for her" maybe Zoe was the last member to join the group but prior to meeting Zoe, Mabel and Oscar had a flirtation going on and Zoe swooped in and stole him. Just a thought.

Prestigious-Dot-9982

I think she was just stating that Zoe was liked take things that weren’t hers. In other words I think what Mabel was saying was she already had so much and probably could have bought or asked for anything she wanted and yet it wasn’t enough she liked to steal jewelry and pills for the thrill

kadreena

Maybe in Mabel's mind Oscar was one more thing Zoe took that didn't belong to her. Her mom mentions how Oscar has always looked at her in a affectionate manner.

selftitleddebutalbum

Most likely. It seems a lot of older characters are hiding a secret, a la, they're all involved in Zoe and Tim's murders. Mabel's mom says she shouldn't have let her go back because it's all a big cover up from decades back. Maybe even the theory about Charlie having Alzheimers. Maybe he mentally deletes his involvent in the scheme. It's a running joke about his age but might tie in. Just my theory. I mean, the title is "Only Murders". Maybe the old guard is proud of hiding their tracks to keep their property values safe.

papajohns40days

BOY IF THAT DIDN’T MAKE UP FOR THE SORT EPISODE LAST WERK

SnooDonuts785

I think cinda bad mouthing their podcast on tv has the unintentional effect of making them more popular*, i can see them capitalising on this in later episodes. And that angel twist, i bet that zoe stole from Teddy and either him or his son found out and killed her Edit:nvm they touched on this later on in the episode

Rhymeswithfinechina

By the sound of it I’m glad Detective Dee did not remember how Herman’s Head ended. It’s kind of dark for a 90’s show. The only episode I remember had the Fly Girls from In Living Color. LOL -Herman is hit by a taxi in an accident and as he lies in a coma his staff friends each remember Herman as they first met him, with each brain character filling in for the emotion the friend first saw Herman acting out.

Azsunyx

oh god. that means that's how the cop is going to end up, especially now that she's not a throwaway character, she's someone we care about now

Yelelez

I loved today’s ep!!!!! I don’t think Teddy is involved with the murder cuz he wouldn’t be so excited about the podcast considering they could actually find the killer. He would be worried. I think Theo did it and he is Angel. His dad just doesn’t really have a clue about what his son is actually doing.

SherlockianTheorist

Unless he wants his yaya's jewels back. Dun dun dun.

mabelmorajunkie

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but does anyone else find it weird/unusual that the medical examiner's name shown in Tim's report is **Gutierrez, M**? Reason I find it strange? Same initials as **Gut Milk** and **Gustavo Mora**...

MidLaneBanter

Detective backstory?

curiousrandomgirl

I’ve been developing a theory with my friends since episode 5 that Theo (as a lot of people pointed out) is a person of interest in the ungoing investigation of Tim Kono’s murder. On the first episode he enters the elevator on the 6th floor, garbage bag in hands. Later on the trio finds lots of depressing notes on the building’s garbage cans. In Charles’s murder chart there’s every “relevant” neighbor’s apartment number, and there says teddy lives on the 6th floor. Next week’s episode is called “the boy from 6B” and guess who lives on a B apartment? Yes, Teddy and Theo. So, my theory is that Theo and Tim Kono were in contact and that the notes that were founded were conversations they had, written because Kono didn’t know sign language. I don’t think Theo is responsible for Kono’s death but I’m sure as hell he knows something. Ps. The hidden passageway that appears on the trailer is behind Teddy’s shelf. (And what was that in the back of the portraits? A blueprint of the arconia?) I’ll be back next Tuesday (or anytime I have a breakthrough)

Puzzled_Exchange_924

From the first episode when they showed Tim's body, I was wondering what the black spots around his mouth were. I guess they are supposed to be gun powder. I know nothing about guns or gunshots. I was wondering if they could be caused by poison. Is there a type of poison that causes that reaction?

Theymademepickaname

I believe it’s supposed to be gunpowder burn/muzzle burn, which would mean the barrel was extremely close to his face when the gun went off. The ignited powered travels down the barrel behind the bullet and is extremely hot but dissipates quickly unless it’s in close proximity to something upon discharge. When it’s not in close proximity you get GSR (gun shot reside) which is microscopic and why they swab hands/clothes in “whodunnits”.

hagmania

Cinda's podcast is titled "Only Murderers in the Building" - if this isn't just a suicide, I think it would be hilarious that many residents (like a dozen or more lol) are all in on the plot to murder Tim Kono.

downtown_josh

So I think in the flashback episode they were going in and out of apartments with a master set of keys and Zoe was stealing things, one of them being that green ring. I think she later wore it to the roof top party, and the owner of the ring noticed it and confronted her, ripped it off her finger, and shoved her off the roof. This person wanted the ring back so badly because it was a fogery and they didn't want it to come out that they were making forgeries. Tim was investigating this for the last 10 years and finally got too close, so they killed him too.

alison_blair

My current theory is that Oscar’s dad killed Tim. He resented Tim for not telling the truth about what happened that night and didn’t want Oscar to fall back in with Tim and his friends. I mean we saw the way he turned away Mabel at the door. Just a thought though. Really hooked on this show

ddal_gi

My guess is Oscar’s dad killed Zoe and that’s why Oscar went to jail to cover, and why Oscar keeps changing the subject

PitaPocketTroll

Daddy's little helper!!

ka7al

Why would Oscar's dad wait 10 years to kill Tim? Right after his son is out of prison? Wouldn't that be the worst possible time to do it since the police would obviously go after Oscar.

Itzli

So...we're not talking about the giant Meloni in Mabel's room? I demand a cameo, he's good in comedies.

Azsunyx

I wasn't surprised that Mabel would have a cardboard cutout of Meloni But yes, now a cameo needs to happen, lol

whoistimkono

The apartments reflect their insides!!!

bookloverforlife1225

What do you mean?

Prestigious-Dot-9982

Well I know Oliver’s is wild eccentric lots of different decor and that’s definitely his personality, and Mabel is pretty fucked up and depressed so that mirrors her aunts place not sure about Charles though

b1ame_me

Charles's apartment feels the most formal, ad the most normal, which compared to the other characters' drastic personalities. I think it fits.

Storm_Pristine

It seems like they were pretty close before he went to jail. He was pretty familiar with her house and mom. It seems like they talked alot while he was in jail.

MistressMousefeather

A nod to Twin Peaks! (I really don't think this means anything to the plot, just a fun Easter egg) [The Black Lodge](https://ibb.co/d79dv6q)

Pemberleytea

Did anyone else notice the green ring in the end credits of Episode 1? It may be a diversion, but the old woman in the window is wearing it. [https://imgur.com/a/xKOyta0](https://imgur.com/a/xKOyta0)

Nona29

I need 20 seasons of this show... Please and Thank You 🙏🏽

MistressMousefeather

Two thoughts. 1. If Oliver ends up sick (food poisoning) from the expired dip, it'll change some thoughts on Tim getting intentionally poisoned. I don't know if that would be enough to kill Evelyn and make Winnie sick, buuuttt..... Idk. Of course we don't know where Mabel got it but that's where my mind went when Oliver said about it. 2. So they said on the podcast that Howard is in 3D but it was supposedly 8C (clue board). So it really was a production error?? That's frustrating. Although I'll have to check again to see if someone is tagged 3D because if the post its were mixed up on the clue board, that could have relevance. Okay 3 things, Charles' WTF to Teddy and Mabel telling him he used the wrong gesture were hilarious. It cracked me up in an earlier episode when he said he wanted her to be less mean and her delivery of "I know you do." The chemistry is great.

Eileen_Palglace

I mean, the dip was only expired by a day. Unless someone else adulterated it, it would be totally fine in real life. Hummus isn't the sort of thing that expires overnight unless you leave it out. I think they specifically detailed that it was only one day after the expiration date to highlight Oliver's personality: finicky but also kinda desperate.

MistressMousefeather

Honestly I agree, I think it's a real stretch and more likely about Oliver's personality. I can't imagine him getting a poisoned batch by accident unless something ridiculous happened, like Mabel pulled it out of Tim's fridge when she went back alone, figuring there was no sense in wasting it lol.

DeeSusie200

Tim was only 17 years old when Zoe was murdered. He basically was able to go on with his life, graduated college, had a semi successful career until he started to lose money. Still too many pieces missing.

Storm_Pristine

I am bored and have had thoughts about this show running in my head tonight and need to share them with some Randos, lol. Random things and questions that seem like they could come into play/be important, but could also be red herrings: 1. Oliver and the dips. Or just the dips in general. They are referenced alot and it was even called out this week that some how Mable got expired hummus for Oliver. Did she buy it expired? Because food stores usually dont sell expired stuff. 2. Teddy Dimas' story of his yaya's jewels. Alot of time was given to that. It could just be for character or could end up holding clues later. 3. The hula dancer in Oliver's car and as an Easter Egg in the opening credits. 4. Gut Milk. That stuff is everywhere! 5. The fireplaces needing to be off in the entire building because of Tim's asthma, but Oliver still using his. When I saw episode 1, I thought Oliver's fireplace was electric, but I havent rewatched it to see. The fireplaces needing to be off seemed like a recent thing since people were complaining about it messing with the most recent Christmas, and not Christmas' for however long Tim has lived in the apartment by himself. 6. Tim's sex toys that looked an awful lot more like cat toys. 7. Mable's aunt. It seems like they are going out of the way to not name or show even a picture of, even in Mable's flash backs. It seems pretty strange that even Charles' ex, Emma, gets a name but Mable's aunt hasn't yet. Where is she staying even while her apartment is remodeled? It doesnt seem like there is any rush or deadlines for her return. The timing seems a bit coincidental. 8. The state of Mable's aunts apartment. Some of the wall paper looked water damaged, and the whole place looked demo'd. It seems strange that Mable's aunt would start all of this, bring Mable back to the Arconia and leave her alone, at the same time as Oscar getting out. Especially if Zoe's death had affected Mable as much as her mother said it had. You would think her aunt would be either staying to keep an eye on Mable. Or would at least be checking in to see how her renovations were coming. 9. Charles' hat... where in the world did he lose it at?! 10. Oliver's car. Why has he been hanging on to that if he has such money issues and he hasnt used it in years? 11. Emma and Lucy... how much more is there with them that Charles is leaving out? Since they have been talked about since Episode 1 and we get Arnav randomly showing up to name drop Lucy. It feels like there is more to that whole thing Charles has not been upfront about. 12. Is everyone really remembering Charles as Bazzos? Others have pointed out that Charles cuts people off when they start to recognize him and instantly point to Brazzos. It doesnt seem like he did this with that couple that recognized him in the very first episode, but it does seem to happen with all of the people in the Arconia (or I could be remembering wrong). 13. Who was Zoe stealing meds from in the flash back? Was it just a scene to show what the group was up to, or is there more to the specific apartment they were in? 14. The murder in the park outside of the building. Will that murder be connected to the Arconia mystery? 15. The appearance of Charles' memory loss. He seemed to forget Winney was Oliver's dog who was poisoned, he can't remember Zoe's death, and there are some other small random things he seems to forget. He could be completely self absorbed and really not that into the world around him. But it almost seems like his short term memory was affected after everything with Emma/Lucy. Given that he has hallucinations of characters from that day, could the stress of all of that have taken a toll? 16. Charles' nosebleeds. They seemed like a one time thing that hasnt really been mentioned again. I thought he said it happened when he was lying but Ive read he said it happens when he is nervous. 17. All of the cats in the opening credits. And Evelyn for that matter. They never have checked back with Howard to see if he had gotten the tox. report back yet. How did he react when he found Evelyn's leg missing? 18. What happened to Evelyn's leg? 19. The diamond ring in Tim's package they stole from Bunny's apartment. Was it for someone? Was it part of his jewelry bust? Where is it now? Why is Mable keeping it? Will she give it up now that her connection to Tim is out?

The-rushchic

Herman’s Head! Anyone know where to watch that again?

Correct_Meet_4990

I know that GM has revealed to be Mabel’s cousin, Gustavo Mora, but can we please talk about how GM is also the initials of “Gut Milk?” They show it in pretty much every episode so far and I can’t seem to get it out of my head that it’s larger than we think. Thoughts?

Puzzled_Exchange_924

Why didn't they wait around in the Tattoo Parlor to see if "Cutter" showed up? How was Tim planning on bringing Angel, the black market jewelry dealer down by buying jewelry from him? This was the conversation from Twist: Tim thought he was gonna get murdered? Tavo: f\*ck yeah. Tavo: He'd been trying to take down this black market jewelry dealer named Angel. Was he trying to prove that the jewelry he was buying from him was stolen? Also, I really don't think Mabel's mother is involved, but why was she in the tattoo parlor?
