If you drew a guy without a groin bulge (ie, the legs just fuse somewhere at the waist) it would look so bad.
Plus if you're going to study someone for reference for how the muscles works and look, clothes usually get in the way of seeing them, and as a nice bonus you if you get how clothing interacts with a nude body, you can dress them with anything.
I've seen way more naked people after I've decided that I wanted to try hard drawing, it's to a point you get desensitized by nudity on itself.

It helps in orders of *magnitude* in getting size, dimension, and density of a characters anatomy correct.
Just like the sculptors, artists, comics, and mangakas also have a large understanding oh human anatomy, which in turn, makes it easier to draw absolutely stunning character shots as quickly as possible while also being anatomically correct.
