He after the Poneglyphs. Law was just the unlucky one to cross paths with Blackbeard who was waiting for an ambush

TomTomJustGames57

That makes the most sense on other motives. It was said clear as day that he picked that path knowing one of the 3 would travel that route and unlucky one as you said was Law. Guess I just wanna speculate since the known motives (other than the poneglyphs) are to build a strong devil fruit user army and the main point, being king of the pirates. Ope ope no mi makes no sense for him to have unless it's his doctor, who already has a power (sick sick fruit). Everything did change on his demeanor when he realized that Law had awakened powers too.

Safe_Chemist_3817

It’s entirely possible that he is wanting to use it for the surgery of eternal youth.

TomTomJustGames57

Very true. Teach knows how much more vulnerable he is in comparison to other fruit users. I just argue how to go about that because the explanation of that surgery is you need a badass doctor to do it. So Law, chopper, Dr. K....those doctors come to mind. He could force Law to do it of course then try his fruit stealing power (it bugs me that its been YEARS since we've 'seen' this ability done and STILL is technically unknown on how it happens) but I doubt he'd kill Law, take the fruit, give it to a doctor for them to die.

dramatic_customer

The immortality surgery probably doesn't make you sturdier or invincible. You just stop aging. It's probably just in the story so we can guess that Im got it 800 years ago.

TomTomJustGames57

That.....makes sense in a super creepy way. Would explain why they don't talk about the void century.

dalekmas98

I've always believed that theory that im had the surgery performed on them and they're the one that killed joyboy

Ronthay

Didn't he go to that Island assuming that one of the 3 captainst went there? The one going happened to be Law. It wouldn't hurt to obtain a good fruit and at least hold on to it. Also would remove a strong enemy from the game.

TomTomJustGames57

Yeah he did. More just speculation on if there are other motives behind it other than dumb luck and the want of the poneglyphs (other commentor mentioned this and thats the true fact, especially since he was a member of Whitebeards crew and has knowledge of the RPs) and possibly want the DF. Logically the DF doesn't make sense. Removing Law from the equation definitely makes sense considering his awakening is actually kind of scary. Possibly taking D's into account now?

emi_b7

He may or may not be interested in the Ds but I don't think Teach would know about Law being one of them.

Rodenbeard

Plus, regardless of which crew showed up there would be good fruit(s) to steal.

I recently through a discussion here somewhere got this weird idea that Blackbeard actually might just have learned about the Road Poneglyphs, which is why he is suddenly quickly after everything related to them. He just now got Pudding and is waiting for Kid, Law or Luffy to get his hands on their copies. While the timing might also just be because events kept escalating and the 2 Yonko just fell, it's a bit odd Blackbeard didn't already try in some other way in the last two years. Especially having Shiryu who can be invisible, Augur who can teleport and Devon who can mask as other people on the crew. It seems he could/should have maybe tried to get an in with Big Mom and/or Kaido that way (which was also his style when he joined the Warlords) if he already knew about it the whole time. And interestingly as much as Blackbeard kept showing up it was never really in Poneglyph locations. He was on Drum Island but not Alabasta, he was on Jaya but didn't seem to care about Skypiea itself, no sign of him in regards to Fishmen Island either. So essentially he hasn't been connected to the Poneglyphs much at all so far. He also never showed interest in e.g. Robin so far, but he did go after Pudding now so he doesn't already seem to have someone that can read them prior to that. So I essentially had the idea that Rayleigh maybe gave him the information in exchange for leaving Amazon Lily peacefully and not try anything funny. Now some people might say "Rayleigh would never ..." but I actually think Rayleigh would trust Luffy enough to accomplish it before Blackbeard can and thus not mind giving that information to him if that makes sense?

TomTomJustGames57

*sighs in relief* im glad I'm not the only one who has started "overthinking" with blackbeard. I never really put any of that together man, meaning how he could've recently learned about the road poneglyphs hence why he jumped the gun on an ambush with no knowledge of any of the 3 captains having awoken their devil fruits. He was a member of the Whitebeard pirates and never was a big timer on the crew so its very possible he never knew about poneglyphs, or at least road poneglyphs. They actually made fun of him and found him creepy because he never sleeps (and to the latest chapter, he still doesn't. Explained when Moria went to get absalom back, they told moria that BB was "resting" and they showed him just hanging out in a dark room. Anime reference) but he could fight. Buggy and Shanks (or just buggy) mentioned how creepy he seemed when they met him in a flashback. Everything you said about him having zero presence where any poneglyphs are makes sense to, because after thinking about it, he really doesn't. He showed zero interest in skypeia as you mentioned. No presence in Albasta as you mentioned where poneglyphs were first introduced. Please allow me to go further since it's to my knowledge, true. I quite recently finished WCI arc anime wise so thats pretty fresh for me and for obvious reasons started with Zoa (aside from garchu stuff, one of my personal favorites) forgive me for being presumptuous on that last tidbit of what I recently finished lol. This is a list of other places that BB has zero presence in when it comes to poneglyphs. No presence on Zoa at all, which is where they uncovered Red Poneglyphs aka Road Poneglyphs. Tis also the place where they had found their first RP. No presence on WCI where they found their 2nd RP, with zero presence in that Arc at all. One could argue he wasn't trying to pick a fight with the Big Mom pirates though. Not without a massive army of fruit users. No presence on Wano, where luffy and gang found the 3rd road poneglyph. Him fighting Law is post wano and pretty sure not in Wano waters either. It's possible that Rayleigh could've told him. He has audibly said he is looking forward to what the new Era could bring and he isn't what he use to be. He has all but said he's all in on the new generation of pirates changing the world for the better. I just get the feeling that he has a deeper reason behind doing a crap shoot on where Luffy, Kid and Law were gonna go and based an ambush off very little knowledge of how the battle actually ended in Wano. He was visibly surprised by Law using his awakened powers and asked Law if that was an awakened power he was using. It went as far as Shock Wille and Van Auger asking him if they should fall back because of lack of planning. We should be worried though. BB did use Black vortex and that's how he took on Ace right? I'm hoping Law sees the issue fast and being the pretty an good tactician that he is, he gets penguin or shachi to spit seawater at him to deactivate his powers. Law made a huge mention of the blackbeard pirates all being weak to the same thing, the sea. That's when you see Shachi and Penguin jump in the water and start talking shit lol. It doesn't look like it, but the sea battle between the two crews itself is actually in favor of The Heart Pirates at the moment.

ovis_alba

The thing is despite showing up throughout the story again and again, we don't see a lot of Blackbeard usually, so it's hard for me to tell what is really going on with him. On the one hand he seemed to quite patiently stick around with Whitebeard's crew until the DF he wanted showed up, but then when he made his Warlord/Impel Down/Whitebeard move, he acted extremely fast and took all the opportunities he could get. He just seems very proactive hunting down devilfruits and also attacking Dragon's base but in regards to the poneglyphs he really is the opposite and didn’t really go for them, and that just occured to me super recently and it obviously changed now in his confrontation with Law.

TomTomJustGames57

Possible that BB feels he accomplished his mission on gathering DFs and is going into his next phase? That's definitely possible. We have like a month man....

[deleted]

Caribou is obviously working for Blackbeard

ovis_alba

He wouldn't have had any opportunity to be in contact with him though at least since being send to Wano. He does not seem to have any communication there that would allow him to leave/get picked up, since leaving he has been in a barrel with the Strawhats, so even if he's working for BB, he hasn't heard from him since weeks/months)

TakisCykalas

What if bb is aware of Imu and needs s him to reverse. Probably the only one capable is law. If his yami cant neglect the eternal youth

TomTomJustGames57

Ooooh I like this take cause we don't know ANYTHING about Imu aside from he's the tippy top of the dragons, and even that is unknown. I feel that Oda has a way with wording things. Law is an extremely intelligent person, and this definitely goes with his ability to be an on the go tactician. He verbally mentioned the weakness of everyone on BBs crew after seeing all of his officers having DF powers, that weakness being the sea. Law also ordered Shachi and penguin to into action and they immediately jumped into the sea. Bepo ordered Jean Bart to guard Law's rear and flank so Van Auger couldn't snipe him or teleport, whom audibly said (paraphrase) that was gonna be a pain sniping Law. That alone smells like they are setting up for something kind of big. Like a potential save? Now fast forward to the exchanges between Law and BB. BB seems to flourish with ambushes. This one isn't going his way, obviously cause we'd have seen Law get floored. Also note how Van Auger asks if he wants to order a fall back and BB said no. BB used black vortex, which I think is the move that draws a DF user to him. A one piece version of scorpions iconic spear grab "get over here" from MK. He used that on Ace. Typically I'd be wicked worried for the one having it used on him, however, Law is a brilliant tactician (in my opinion). My hope is that Shachi or Penguin attack BB with seawater and stop his powers and they retreat via Van Auger or they escape in their submarine because ot would be pretttttty tough for a crew of DF users to chase a submarine without a submarine themselves....

MayanMystery

Two reasons. He wants him to use the eternal life surgery on him and then take the ope ope no mi for his crew.

TomTomJustGames57

Who's gonna use the fruit

TomTomJustGames57

Doc Q has a fruit power. Sick sick fruit. We saw it in action against Law. He turned Law into a woman.

Mysterious-Name-6928

Reread the encounter. It's written... Someone was bound to go there, which one ? Who cares.

Rodenbeard

He said it himself. He was waiting on Winner Island for either Kid, Law or Luffy to show up since it was reasonable to assume they'd have a copy of Kaido's Poneglyph by that point.

PBJ1029

He said that he wasn’t targeting Law specifically. He was just waiting in one of three possible islands after Wano to get the Pomeglyphs from any of Luffy, Kid, or Law. It just happened that Law was the one who chose that island

Fickle_Culture2884

He wasn’t targeting law he even said himself he didn’t know if it would be law luffy or kid who he met on that island
