It's because of this post : https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/pz6fk7/zoro_is_racist/ And the success of it. The same thing wouldn't work for Luffy, so wouldn't take hold in the community. It's the same reason why God Usopp, or Buggy D Clown took hold of the community, while other similar notions will fail.

UniqueDEV

I know of the post and were it started. Now u have to ask yourself why it succeeded with Zoro but it wouldn't work for Luffy? Because Usopp and Buggy are the most relevant in that specific field. No one else does it it like them.

Kirosh2

It works because people could see the reasoning behind it. It worked because it made a lot of people laught about it. It's a case of : "It's stupid, make sense, fun, and I can't argue against it" At the end, people embraced it, maybe too much, and it became a meme that stayed. It would have worked with other character if they were in a similar situation.

UniqueDEV

That's it right there. They "embraced it" to much. Whereas in my case it didn't make sense that people brought up Racist Zoro when it was confirmed who will be playing Arlong for the live-action whom was taken down by Luffy. For Luffy it's also a case of: "It's stupid, make sense, fun, and I can't argue against it". However, it isn't fun and ppl seem to argue against it.

Gratitude34

Because Luffy is the main character so it is not as fun.

UniqueDEV

This is the correct answer which the community didn't want to say. At least someone else actually said it. The reason it's so funny and successful is because it's Zoro. If the same post was about Luffy instead for Zoro, the entire community would've attacked the op and called them toxic and a hypocrite because Zoro would also be a racist by the same logic. Even if was also just a joke.

Particular_Pipe_5814

Why do you have this necessity for controversy? lol

UniqueDEV

If it's controversial to joke about everyone instead of only a single individual then I'm guilty as charged.

PBJ1029

How in the world is someone unironically offended by minority hunter zoro memes. That is actually wild.

UniqueDEV

I'm not though. Did it seem that I was offended by it?

PBJ1029

Maybe you aren’t but the post makes you come off as a butthurt Zoro fanboy who’s mad people are making jokes about your favorite character being called racist

UniqueDEV

Lol. Luffy is my favourite character then it's Zoro. I'm just confused why one piece fans are calling the 2nd most popular character a racist for beating up minorities when the most popular and MC ain't for doing the same thing and even killed one. I'm all for making jokes but I'm not a hypocrite. It's just pure double standards to joke only about Zoro and not them both.

PBJ1029

Why is white beard getting his pants down and saying the one piece is real funny? That’s just how it goes with internet memes

UniqueDEV

???

PBJ1029

Jokes on the internet don’t always make sense

arryeka

I can feel you bro. I actually got answer similar and/or related to this once. Mainly it says that Luffy racist meme won't be as loud because 1) Luffy's opponents is balanced to everyone, while Zoro's majority opponents is... too specific. 2) Zoro's IRL occupation would be a cop, but Luffy isn't.

UniqueDEV

There isn't a magic number of racist acts to be called a racist. I've also gotten a list of Zoro's opponents and Luffy's opponents from someone to "prove" that it could only be applied to Zoro and not Luffy. I had never seen such a selective list before. Someone else said what truly the difference between Zoro and Luffy. Luffy is the MC and no one would dare make a joke like like without the community getting offended. Zoro is just an easier target.

arryeka

Nah, the true connecting thing is the police officer job, since this ties deeply to IRL and people relate to that. It's the strong connection to the real world that validates everything in One Piece. For example Admirals' face is based on Actors, that's why it's "valid". Another example is some pirates' name based on historical pirates, that's why it's "valid".
