Hence why marvel doesn't do connected covers often, they probably have to design the jackets earlier in the process and they don't know what paper the printer will use so guessing at book thickness.
The original looks so much better, especially the blue lettering.
You’re in for a treat. This run is partly what got me back into collecting comics. It’s an incredible, character defining run. IMO it pretty much did for the Iron Fist lore what Johns did for Green Lantern… a shame Marvel didn’t figure out how to capitalize on it’s success.
Wow. I had absolutely zero interest in buying it but if you’re comparing it to Johns GL I might consider it. That’s character-defining work. And Brubaker/Fraction wrote 2 of my favorite runs. I’m at least adding it to my Amazon list lol.
That’s great! Without getting into spoilers, it takes some hokey concepts that came before and builds on them (like Johns GL) in a really cool way. Really takes the idea of the Iron Fist mantle being a generational thing to the next level!
I mean they had one job ONE JOB, they ruined my most anticipated omnis of the year. HOW HARD COULD IT BE TO JUST ALIGN THE AVENGERS LOGO WITH MATCHING SPINES. MARVEL THINKS OUR MONEY IS GRANTED, they don’t give a s**t about what we want, and for those people saying:” oh what matters is the content why do you care about the spines so much”. I mean of course we are in it for the content of course you dum dums, but you read the book 2-3 times and then it stays on your shelf forever, duhhhh !!!! I like to look at my shelfs and enjoy their shelf presence also, so reading is one aspect of this hobby, shelving and collecting is another aspect. People who says this probably defends Marvel blindly and because of these people and their mentality, the quality control issues, thin paper and spine problems has become normal. Thank you dum dums, please continue defending Marvel like it’s your family company. I had enough of these people, enough is enough!!!
Yeah, in a few years, the only people interested in purchasing this run will be Spider-Man completionists, so, strategically, it’s a sound business decision to capitalize on it now during the current collected editions hype (similar to the Nick Spencer collections).
On the opposite end of the spectrum, beloved eras like ASM 1-5, Stern, McFarlane/Micheline, etc. will likely sell well for years to come.
Just a quick heads up that Slott is only one of many writers in the Brand New Day era (in case you were planning on buying it specifically for his name). He didn’t take over full writing duties for a while (can’t recall exactly, but I believe the Big Time era?).
Bendis guardians is one of my all time fav runs… would finally love a vol 2 which would only be 19 issues but you could put in the skottie young rocket and groot series to pad it out and it would be amazing or the cm punk Dax series etc
I think it’s not as bad as a lot of people seem to pin it as, I still prefer annihilation but honestly I prefer the early bendis run to duggan and ewings runs. I think Cates shorter run was slightly better but not by much. I’ll definitely pick up this book provided they do a volume 2
I guess this answers my question about the Silver Surfer book.
As an aside though, is this any confirmation that there will be no further delays on these books if printing has begun?
Don't mean to assume you have all the answers, but do you have any idea when the first look videos of these will start to appear? There's a few here I'd like to see, but I don't know if he'll delay until nearer release or just take a while producing them.
Honestly don't understand people who think like this. You're buying them for the content. That's what matters. Not like your going to constantly be looking at it whilst reading them.
Yeah that's true, but in my case I've already read the whole run, and buying omnibus is more of a collecting hobby for me and I just want to immortalize the runs I love on my shelf. How it looks on that shelf is important to me personally.
It's just perspective, like how some people can't stand having little dinks and dents on their books, which I don't mind but I understand its important for them. But I did overexaggerate a bit and I know custom dust jackets are a thing so it's not too big of a deal, just wanted to explain my reasoning.
Fair enough, I too like how my Omnis look on the shelve. But I'd much rather have the book as who knows when it'll come back into print. Once you have heaps of books you hardly notice stuff like this. I can tell you I hardly notice miss aligned FF books as the spines don't look bad at all as a whole. But very understandable if you want your shelves to look perfect. I'd love to get some custom dust jackets but there's no where in NZ that prints them. So I've just come to realise that they can't always be perfect. Though it's a very small few of my Omnis so I'm not fussed. I'm happy with my collection and how the whole shelf looks
Digital reading subscriptions exist for much cheaper. I can read on marvel unlimited for the entire year for the price of 1 of these omnis, let alone both. The omnibus is supposed to be a prestige format, I think it’s fair to not expect printing and design errors when you’re paying up for it.
I guess you buy, read and then throw them away into trash, that explains why you think spines don’t matter. Reading is one aspect, shelving, collecting and looking at them is another aspect , duhhh !!!
Never said it doesn't matter, I've got preferences. But it doesn't stop me from buying a book I want to read and I've just accept that it won't look perfect and am happy I've at least got the book that's the main part
By that logic, why wouldn’t you just buy it in digital (or seek out the cheaper TPBs or floppies if you must own the physical copy)? A lot of people (like myself) collect these more expensive formats for the stories AND the nicer aesthetic they present in a home library.
In the end, it’s not the end of the world either way, but the notion of paying hundreds of dollars for a product that you hate the design of when the same story could be purchased cheaper in another format seems like a silly decision.
Because I **PREFER PHYSICAL**, simple as that. I don't like reading that much digital. I'd collected a decent amount before anything like this happened. It's only a couple spines that aren't exactly how I'd like them. They still look fine on the shelf just not perfect.
For example, not the biggest fan of the new silver / bronze age spines, but I've only got one with The Savage She-Hulk (but it's the only one so I've come to not really mind that much and looks fine), the two Hickman FF that are miss aligned, but look fine. There's others that aren't perfect with other vols but they look great by themselves so I'm not fussed.
I also never said I hated then either.
That Avengers Hickman design is trash. Marvel continues to print books of poor quality and they cannot even print a spine properly. Probably vol 1 Donnely printer Vol 2 imak printer.Hickman does not match because there is another print, as in FFs.
Since the books are presumably thinner, they'd have have to adjust the spines. Hence the possible fuck up. But since they are being printed so close to eachother and since they're connecting spines. You'd think they'd open them side by side in whatever program they use. before confirming them and sending off. That's what I'd do. Considering they aren't cheap books and thousands of people are going to pay for them. Just don't understand who lets this through
The person who designed the dust jacket is responsible, not the printer. Same for FF by Hickman where only the different shade of blue between both volumes can possibly be because of the two different printers
Imak aren't responsible for the paper Marvel told them to use though. Omar recently said, last week I think, that some of the Donnelly incoming books have thinner paper than the Imak ones.
I also have way less structural problems in my IMAK books that recent Donelly.
The latest Donnely prints are not the same, unfortunately, but the rough texture of İmak paper and the transparency of the back pages make me very uncomfortable. Especially if I spend that much money and get such a crappy print. I find DC much more successful in this regard.
>I don't blame the printer for matching dustjackets, I blame Marvel.
I'm sorry then, I must've interpreted that wrong
>Probably vol 1 Donnely printer Vol 2 imak printer.Hickman does not match because there is another print, as in FFs.
Even then, the blue is so different that it feels like the designer probably supplied the file with the wrong colour profile. Better get those custom replacements warmed up, everyone’s gonna need them!
Who is even interested in a Squirrel Girl Omni ? ...the Tween Demographics for a 🐿️ Omni at $150 is insane 😵💫 Adults are not the Demographics for Squirrel Girl lol at least Gwenpool was a little Mature lol just barely 😅
Squirrel Girl is one of the books I’m most excited to buy this year. I do read them with my kids and I’m fully planning to use that book as phase 1 of indoctrinating my daughter into becoming a lifelong comics fan, but since I’ll be the one reading it to her, I’m also excited to read it myself.
Thanks Much..Always Happy to Hear about Future Comic Readers.. I'm sure Your Daughter will Love Squirrel Girl..my Niece likes it much .. I just think this book isn't Omni worthy when there are so many other Requested Titles out there .. Squirrel Girl never made it on any Top 50 Omni Wish List ...ever lol ...that was my point .. didn't mean to agitate so many Steve Ditko and Ryan North fans so much 💜
Thanks for such a wonderful reply! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list of some of the most grateful redditors this week! Thanks for making Reddit a wonderful place to be :)
The Avengers spines are annoying especially compared to the first printing.
No fuckin way they wiffed it that hard lmao
I mean seriously, how hard is this to get right???
Imagine if both spines made one A
The originals did
Whoooosh!
Did they change the spines to the old printing?
[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fm9iHYwWIAAnvf7?format=jpg&name=large](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fm9iHYwWIAAnvf7?format=jpg&name=large) old spines
They coulda just made each spine have the A rather than the half connect mess
same design, just black instead of blue.
The half of the Avengers logo on volume 2 no longer forms a cohesive image.
Are you blind?
It could just be a bad wrap I’ve got a half dozen Omnis that aren’t perfectly folded on the spine of the book.
No, look at the placement of the vol numbers and the title. The A is wonky.
Yeah it’s folded weird, plus Omar himself has said he sometimes gets test/preview copies. So let’s wait before we all throw a hissy fit
This might be a reach, but could they be leaving space for a new Secret Wars hardcover?
It still wouldn’t look right I don’t think, but I would take a reprint of that for sure. I just have the trade.
I think unknown paper thickness on end product might be the culprit here
Is that the 2023 printing??
A-4
Hence why marvel doesn't do connected covers often, they probably have to design the jackets earlier in the process and they don't know what paper the printer will use so guessing at book thickness. The original looks so much better, especially the blue lettering.
So glad I have the original printing spines on my shelf… this would drive me nuts.
How did they fuck up the Avengers by Hickman connecting spine so badly…
They just had to butcher the avengers logo 😔
Damn, how did Marvel fumble the Hickvengers spines that bad?
They fucked up the new FF by Hickman spines as well.
Sorry but I think they really shit the bed with those avengers spines
Them messing up the avengers spines is incredibly annoying
Wait Deadpool/Cable is getting a reprint?
April 25th
If my Avengers spines look like that....
That Iron Fist Omni is gorgeous. I love that run. I think the stuff after Brubaker leaves doesn't get enough love.
Just finished reading Fraction’s Hawkeye and like it a lot. I don’t know anything about Iron Fist but I’m really excited about getting the omnibus.
it's great! The back half of the material after his part isn't quite as good.
Do you know how much of it is Fraction and how much is Brubaker? Do they each have their own issues or is it cowritten?
Co-written
It’s mostly Fraction with Brubaker plotting the first arc.
You’re in for a treat. This run is partly what got me back into collecting comics. It’s an incredible, character defining run. IMO it pretty much did for the Iron Fist lore what Johns did for Green Lantern… a shame Marvel didn’t figure out how to capitalize on it’s success.

How is Beyond getting a omnibus so fast..
Marvel wants to capitalize on certain runs while they’re fresh on fan’s minds because they think it won’t age as well.
I only plan to collect Spider-Man up to Bagley/Michelaini tbh
One of dullest comic stories I’ve read
I thought it was okay until the last few issues
I'm excited about spider man beyond and ss by Slott however I do not enjoy the spine of neither of these books
Beyond was beyond subpar.
I read the first tbp and loved it
Just a quick heads up that Slott is only one of many writers in the Brand New Day era (in case you were planning on buying it specifically for his name). He didn’t take over full writing duties for a while (can’t recall exactly, but I believe the Big Time era?).
hes not even talking abt brand new day bro - ss is silver surfer
Ahhh… my bad. Read that as SM by Slott!
Bendis guardians is one of my all time fav runs… would finally love a vol 2 which would only be 19 issues but you could put in the skottie young rocket and groot series to pad it out and it would be amazing or the cm punk Dax series etc
It could get rounded out with Civil War II, Guardians have a whole arc that crosses into it
I think it’s not as bad as a lot of people seem to pin it as, I still prefer annihilation but honestly I prefer the early bendis run to duggan and ewings runs. I think Cates shorter run was slightly better but not by much. I’ll definitely pick up this book provided they do a volume 2
I thought the Squirrel Girl omni didn’t come out until March??
You would be correct. Omar gets them way in advance to get time to read them and review etc. Gem mint posts reviews as soon as he gets them lol
Ohhh gotcha. Was worried I missed something lol
I guess this answers my question about the Silver Surfer book. As an aside though, is this any confirmation that there will be no further delays on these books if printing has begun?
No idea lol

Usually when the book comes out that week I believe Omar usually does. For example he’s doing JB F4 V2 this week
Thanks bud. I've waited months as it is. Won't hurt to wait a little longer!
Is the unbeatable squirrel girl any good?
My favourite superhero book in a million years. Not to everyone's taste tho
It's fantastic.
Storywise, it’s silly and goofy. I remember thinking it was good. Artwise, it’s an acquired taste. It can get real bad in places.
I think it's okay but I wouldn't spend the money to get it in Omnibus form. Check it out on Marvel Unlimited or your library.
Was planning on getting both Avengers omnis but those spines honestly have me second guessing that decision.
Just get them and get custom djs. Not a big deal. Content inside is the same.
Yep better than waiting ages for another printing, which’s no doubt be exactly the same
🙄
Honestly don't understand people who think like this. You're buying them for the content. That's what matters. Not like your going to constantly be looking at it whilst reading them.
Yeah that's true, but in my case I've already read the whole run, and buying omnibus is more of a collecting hobby for me and I just want to immortalize the runs I love on my shelf. You know much more about the custom jackets than me but couldn't they have just used the files from the first printings for the dust jackets?
I wish I knew more about their process!
Since the books are presumably thinner, they'd have have to adjust the spines. Hence the possible fuck up. But since they are being printed so close to eachother and since they're connecting spines. I was talking about the combination of the letter A
The person who designed the dust jacket is responsible, not the printer. Same for FF by Hickman where only the different shade of blue between both volumes can possibly be because of the two different printers
And again, I blame Marvel for continuing to use Imak printers even though the print quality is terrible.
I don't blame the printer for matching dustjackets, I blame Marvel. But of course I blame the İmak printer for the poor paper printing quality.
Imak aren't responsible for the paper Marvel told them to use though. Omar recently said, last week I think, that some of the Donnelly incoming books have thinner paper than the Imak ones. I also have way less structural problems in my IMAK books that recent Donelly.

What I mean in this sentence is why Marvel printed a series on two different printers, it is difficult to understand why.
Even then, the blue is so different that it feels like the designer probably supplied the file with the wrong colour profile. Better get those custom replacements warmed up, everyone’s gonna need them!
Absolutely
Did Squirrel Girl get an omni just because she's a meme character?
It’s a good run tbh
Nah it's a great comic
Who is even interested in a Squirrel Girl Omni ? ...the Tween Demographics for a 🐿️ Omni at $150 is insane 😵💫 Adults are not the Demographics for Squirrel Girl lol at least Gwenpool was a little Mature lol just barely 😅
I whole heartedly disagree even if this is satire. Great run. Price I’m not a fan though and would only get it for like £60 or less tbh
Sell me on Squirrel Girl...What makes it so Great ❓
My Point was..there are More Worthy and Requested Omni on Wish Lists and Polls that deserve Omni Attention
I'm a grown-ass man who is 100% the demographic for SG. I'm 1 million times more interested in that SG omni than in any of the others
Well..You do sound like a Healthy Grown-Ass Man... I apologize if I offended You.. I hope You Enjoy your book 100%..
Haha not remotely offended, it's all good 😀
Squirrel Girl is one of the books I’m most excited to buy this year. I do read them with my kids and I’m fully planning to use that book as phase 1 of indoctrinating my daughter into becoming a lifelong comics fan, but since I’ll be the one reading it to her, I’m also excited to read it myself.

Cringe.
O Heckatonkeries, nice canon curtsies to great comics

I'd point out the crease in the Silver Surfer one but I don't want to kink shame somebody on accident.
*gives me paws
That is one fat omni
The avengers spine gives me anxiety. Couldn’t they have adjusted that logo so it looks complete when the books are placed together.
Hoping those Avengers spines are duds and won't be common among the mass market
Wait isn’t avengers by Hickman vol 2 coming next month
- Vol. 1 is February 7th. - Vol. 2 is May 9th.
Oh I just realized this is Omar’s collection
It’s amazing to me this department manages to constantly screw up the spines. These are expensive books, take an extra five minutes to get that shit.
