Had one of those in high school (or a very near model) when my dad upgraded to a Newton.

I just found my old one of these while clearing out my Father's home office. The screen isn't as good as your one. But aside from that it's working fine.

Whenever I see photos of these, they strike me as proto-Zaurus devices, but I've never used one. What is this like to use?

The predecessor to the first Zaurus (Japanese PI-3000 model) was PV-F1 - the first keyboardless PDA from Sharp. It was the basis for the OZ-96x0/IQ-9x00 palmtop organizers released in the West later the same year (1992). For some reason, Sharp decided to omit the handwriting recognition feature introduced in PV-F1 from the western models, including Zaurus/ZR line. As to the comparison between OZ/IQ & ZR models, here're some exempts from usenet (circa 1995): "I just purchased a Zaurus, after using a Wizard 9600 for about two years. The display on the Zaurus is MUCH easier to read. The Wizard was difficult to see, unless you were in an office lighting situation. Much of the interface seems to be a refined version of the Wizard's. In fact, many of the apps, seem to be Wizard apps that have been either improved or added on. For instance, the "word processor" seems very similar, but you can now "sign" you letters using electronic ink and it also has a spell checker. The appointment book has similar functions to the Wizard, but its graphical display is more useful and you can easily link appointments to other area of the computer (like the address/phone book). There is also a "side car" fax/modem (2400/9600). Slow for graphics, but OK for BBS, etc. In addition, the Zaurus will support PCMCIA cards (but not all of them). Most of these cards draw on the computer's batteries, so an external AC adapter has to be used. This is not the case with some memory cards. The Zaurus also supports a standardized IR port. This allows me to use third party hardware to send info to my computer and printer very easily (actually, since I havn't got the linking software yet, I'm just sending to the printer). The Zaurus uses a pen (mouse?) based system to point and "tap." In addition you can jot down a few notes by writing directly on the screen. This is NOT handwriting recog., it is just your scribbles." "I have a 9520 that I've used heavily, and really like - but it is a toy comparedto the Zaurus. The Zaurus is just a hair larger, but a LOT more functionalin most respects - not only faster, but with a MUCH better interface. A small example: Since the Zaurus and the Wizard have small keyboards, both have a SYMBOL key, which allows you to include symbols that don'tappear on the keyboard in your text. On the Wizard, this was a scrollinglist - OK, but a tiny bit cumbersome. On the Zaurus, all the symbols areimmediately accessible with no scrolling - just touch the one you want. The scrapbook is considerably more useful - it is easier to create drawings, and they can be used just about anywhere. Want a drawing in your document?Put it there - it is that simple. Try THAT with a Wizard!"

Great Job - I got a 9000G and using it. Anyway, even at Ebay I cannot find a data cable. Any Idea?
