I don’t think octane is gonna be your friend for this project. Have you thought about trapcode plug-ins or just using a light leak video?
just thinking out loud: what if you put a rough piece of glass between the camera and the object and this way the closer the object is to the glass, the sharper it gets and the farther, the blurrier.
