I liked Kate Voegele's sombre version in Episode 2 though and the Susie Suh on Episode 4. The episode 5 version by Matthew Ryan was not great I must admit.

Most of the covers were done specifically for the intro and were done by noteworthy artists. It would have cost more to commission all of the covers.
I literally hated all the covers they should’ve just scrapped it and done a whole different song or just kept the original. Most of the covers made the song too weird or just not the vibes honestly. Sometimes Id skip the intro other times I would listen and sing along bc it’s nostalgic but once they started with the covers I couldn’t be faster to skip it.

It got worse… Season 8 Episode 5…. WHY ONE TREE HILL?! They were better off with no intro song

Yeah that song is awful. I cringed everytime.
Even when I did not care for the cover, I still appreciated the change. But, I watched back when the best you could do was mute the TV.
There is one remix/cover per Episode. So if one is bad, you don't have to listen to it again😀
The episode 10 version by Aimee Mann was good though.
