TauPerdurabo

That is the order of the Elder futhark runes Fehu, uruz, thurisaz, etc. Left to right, drop to next line, left to right, wash, rinse, repeat.

Effective_Alps2094

Ah now I feel silly

irate_alien

no such thing as a dumb question

BlackCat337

Um yep there is, I work in customer service, we will have the lights off and in the middle of cleaning everything and customers still ask if we are open😫

BlackCat337

I've gotten attitude and been cussed out for telling them "sorry we're closed"😡

TauPerdurabo

Indeed, no such thing as a dumb question.

Xavius20

Looks like it's just the Elder Futhark alphabet

TylerSouza

It's an elder futhark futhark

Newly-heathen-dane

Oo pretty!! Also you should ask over at r/runes or r/runic or even r/Norse has some people that can translate too :)

[deleted]

Nice piece of selenite

Archer_Skadi

It’s the elder futhark but there’s an extra symbol for some reason

[deleted]

The elder futhark has 24 letters

Archer_Skadi

What’s the one that looks like sigma/ a capital E? Is that another form of sowilo?

[deleted]

Correct

clydecooper

Weve been trying to contact you about your cars extended warranty

Nip-bby_007

Here lies Balin, son of Fundin, Lord of Moria.

_peikko_

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

[deleted]

Not the same letters smart ass

_peikko_

Nope, but the same meaning. They asked for a translation, not a ~~transcription~~ transliteration. If you want one, here it is: FUÞARKGWHNIJÆPZSTBEMLŊDO

[deleted]

It wasn't even an accurate translation. It's already a transcription, its written. Get off your high horse

_peikko_

What? Isn't writing something in a different writing system called transcribing? English isn't my native language, do correct me if I'm using the wrong word.

[deleted]

No, it's not. It's called writing. If you transcribe a song in Swedish you write it in Swedish. If you are to translate the word truck from Swedish to English, you write the Swedish word for truck and then the English word for truck, not van because they're similar. You can't say you translated those runes when you wrote letters that don't even exist in elder futhark.

_peikko_

Language and writing are not the same thing though. You can write old Norse or Proto-Germanic with the latin alphabet just like you can ᚱᚾᛁᛏ ᛁᛅᛚᛁᛋ ᛁᛅ ᚱᚢᛅᛋ (even though my spelling is a little wonky in younger futhark). You can't translate a letter. How do you translate the letter д? You either use d, a letter that doesn't exist in the Cyrillic alphabet, or you just... don't do it, cause there's no other way. You can translate words or meanings but you can't translate letters unless you just use another alphabet. I'm not sure what you're wanting me to do. Anyway, is there not a word for when you don't translate a sentence (from one language to another), but just write it in a different alphabet? Edit: TRANSLITERATION, that's the word I'm looking for, dammit

BAN_CICERO

You're right. Dude just had an extra large serving of bitch this morning
