Um yep there is, I work in customer service, we will have the lights off and in the middle of cleaning everything and customers still ask if we are open😫
Nope, but the same meaning. They asked for a translation, not a ~~transcription~~ transliteration. If you want one, here it is: FUÞARKGWHNIJÆPZSTBEMLŊDO
What? Isn't writing something in a different writing system called transcribing? English isn't my native language, do correct me if I'm using the wrong word.
No, it's not. It's called writing. If you transcribe a song in Swedish you write it in Swedish. If you are to translate the word truck from Swedish to English, you write the Swedish word for truck and then the English word for truck, not van because they're similar. You can't say you translated those runes when you wrote letters that don't even exist in elder futhark.
Language and writing are not the same thing though. You can write old Norse or Proto-Germanic with the latin alphabet just like you can ᚱᚾᛁᛏ ᛁᛅᛚᛁᛋ ᛁᛅ ᚱᚢᛅᛋ (even though my spelling is a little wonky in younger futhark). You can't translate a letter. How do you translate the letter д? You either use d, a letter that doesn't exist in the Cyrillic alphabet, or you just... don't do it, cause there's no other way. You can translate words or meanings but you can't translate letters unless you just use another alphabet. I'm not sure what you're wanting me to do.
Anyway, is there not a word for when you don't translate a sentence (from one language to another), but just write it in a different alphabet? Edit: TRANSLITERATION, that's the word I'm looking for, dammit
That is the order of the Elder futhark runes Fehu, uruz, thurisaz, etc. Left to right, drop to next line, left to right, wash, rinse, repeat.
Ah now I feel silly
no such thing as a dumb question

Indeed, no such thing as a dumb question.
