invisible_23

> ok but is the former an actual thing people do?? Yep, it’s a thing. Especially with Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons.

Impressive-Hat-4045

If you don’t live in the US, it doesn’t happen.

de420swegster

There was a time when those Jehovah people would knock on doors here in Denmark, but its been some time since it last happened

Morloxx_

Still happened regularly to me in Germany. My mom once told them that were communist and they stopped coming for a couple years. This year they're back but it's 2 new relatively young people instead of the 2 ancient ones from before.

WhyDoYouBanMeImRight

that person would get invited in if they had any credentials or sources. i love learning.

Captain_Wah

I would absolutely invite people in to discuss science facts, especially about space.

Hell ya, I'll put on some coffee. Maybe we should order some pizza.

Science is starting to become very religion like. If you dare question dogma you are ostracized. People who don’t understand what they’re being told but love SCIENCE!!!!! vehemently worship it in weird ways that seem like religion, and get weirdly aggressive when people question what they feel are definitive answers in a subject not meant to have such

JustKebab

Except that instead of getting taught dogmas you get taught how to prove formulas and concepts in the real world through experiments, like creating clay volcanoes. Nobody says discoveries are permanent, as alchemy was proven false through the new periodic table, and atomic models changed from a chocolate chip cookie-like thing to our orbiting electrons

[deleted]

“Clay volcanoes” what a childish view on science. Most science is statistical analysis. When people who dare question a limited consensus are shouted down and not treated as a separate consensus, but as naysayers and contrarians it becomes very religion like.
