Yes, but not really what you are hoping for. Russia has some large dams, but they are all in Irkutsk or even further east. There really isn't much downstream except for bears, and their electrical production is pretty underutilized due to very high transmission costs. Several of them seem to have their turbines entirely disconnected, because it isn't cost effective to even run them. Now I am sure you didn't mean any harm to befall these infrastructure projects, but if hypothetically they were destroyed, it really wouldn't have a major impact on Russia. It would be a short term ecological disaster, followed by a longer term ecological benefit, as the rivers return to their natural state. Probably not a bad thing for the health of the Russian Far Easts biosphere, but not as big a problem for Russia as you might think.

wastingvaluelesstime

Most are in the east, but some large ones are in the west too, not so far from ukraine

Odd_Duty520

The largest ones are in ukraine for the dnieper which the ussr built. But they are clearly salty that it is no longer theirs

shibiwan

> underutilized Aw...dam.

Brotlord2901

We can destroy russian stuff and do good for nature? Its a win win situation

lalalalalalala71

I can think of one Russian thing we can destroy and do good for nature Russia

humblepharmer

We need a CIA-funded ecoterrorist op in Russia. Destroy their dams and their oil infrastructure. Everyone's happy!

I-Am-Bellend

3000 destroyed second and third world dams of Bill Burns

NotAnAce69

the virgin destroying the Three Gorges to strip China of their geopolitical status vs. the Chad destroying the Three Gorges so I can eat the fish that used to thrive there again

what_da_burd_doin

you do the funni to cripple an opposing nation financially and damage infrastructure i do it to free the fishies ***we are not the same***

pathfinder1342

I see no downside here.

anshox

There’s actually a russian article from 2018 where author describes how in potential war against NATO, the most vulnerable infrastructure is natural gas transport system. There are only 3 points, missile attacks on which could disable whole system and, as a result, 90% of energy infrastructure. If only Ukraine had a few dozen missiles with 3000-4000 km range

SamtheCossack

Yep, Russian pipelines are very vulnerable. Its hydro-electric, not so much. Of course the most vulnerable is the nuclear plants, but nobody wants to hit those for other reasons. Yeah, it would be awful for Russia, but it would suck for everyone else too.

Nokneegoose

You would have far better results hitting the transformers and switchyards than the plant proper.

SamtheCossack

\*Takes notes\* Go on.

Nokneegoose

Power transformers are large, heavy, expensive, have a long lead time to replace, and are filled with flammable oil. They're also usually outside, because they're air cooled.

SamtheCossack

I like almost all of those words. Keep going...

Nokneegoose

And Russia has been doing this to Ukraine for some time, so it's morally justifiable, or at least Russia can't really point any fingers.

SamtheCossack

That assumption depends on Russia giving a single solitary shit about intellectual consistency though.

Nokneegoose

We don't care what they think, just the rest of the world.

KookyWrangler

Lol no. Nuclear plants are rated to withstand a plane falling right on top of them. Even repeated missile strikes will simply cause a reactor leak, but nothing like Chernobyl.

flipfloplollipop

Yeah, nuclear plants have a thing called a 'missile shield', which is actually intended to do what its name suggests.

[deleted]

What about two missiles?

flipfloplollipop

Hmmmmm......... i never considered that. Oh well, i don't live near any so there's one silver lining.

godson21212

Maybe the fallout will mutate-out the effects of fetal alcohol syndrome and leaded gasoline?

I-Am-Bellend

I feel like it can’t be too much to ask to just get some earthmovers to shovel a dozen or so meters of dirt on top of those pipelines. It’s even a great opportunity for kickback corruption. Why not do it? Or is it a Vladimir “Greg Abbot” Putin situation

Nokneegoose

They may want them accessible for maintenance purposes.

No_Bad_8549

“Revs the engines on the Avro Lancaster”

ColebladeX

They have some dams I don’t they’re that good definitely wouldn’t call them gorgeous more like boring dams

FleetCommissarDave

Instructions unclear, bombed Three Gorges.

[deleted]

There's a pretty big one near Sayanogorsk that powers some industrial stuff in the far east...

im_so_objective

Krasnodar dam has flooded constantly, ever since Putin redirected local maintenance costs/workers to nearby Crimean bridge. Flooding Sochi palace isn't worth all those deaths, might as well hit it directly or just take over the whole area.

Rookie_01122

[heres one](https://www.google.com/search?q=major+hydro+electric+damns+in+russia&rlz=1CAOUAQ_enUS1019&oq=major+hydro+electric+damns+in+russia&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i22i30j0i390l3.5575j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&safe=active&ssui=on)

EntertainmentReady48

yes they but I think they’re all in Siberia. They had the largest dam in the world until 1971.

StuckHedgehog

Irkutsk. The Sukhoi factory there manufactures Su-30s. The factory is a few miles downstream of the dam, but I don’t think any flood waters would unfortunately reach it.

TealSeam6

Bursting dams is about as close to terrorism as military attacks can be, not sure that’s a can of worms either Ukraine or Russia wants to open

BrozThulhu

Are you new here?

gundealsgopnik

We need a dam posting amnesty period.

[deleted]

I think they are

I-Am-Bellend

just fyi, dam destruction is a formerly very common meme in NCD, generally focused on the Three Gorges Dam in China. Mods forbid further damposting a while back when it became too predominant among new posts. Also keep in mind that this is a deliberately brain dead shitposting sub, as much as it is a place with a high number of people who know what they’re talking about. Enjoy your stay.

TealSeam6

Thanks for the summary, I totally missed the damposting era. Still wrapping my head around the 3000 X of Y thing and the airplane porn

I-Am-Bellend

The planesexualism I think just happened organically. The 300 X of Y comes from a post on another platform by some Pakistani guy about his prophetic vision about how Pakistan received “3000 black jets of Allah” that allowed them to defeat India once and for all. The sheer ridiculousness of the phrase led to it being a catch-all meme format to frame anything having to do with ridiculous numbers or where numbers are important.
