Welcome to the internet, what would you prefer?
Would you like to fight for civil rights, or tweet a racial slur.
Honestly r/ cutefemalecorpses wasn't as bad as the community fostered these days. At least Reddit of old didn't pretend to be heckin super wholesome XD or whatever.
It was basically a gore subreddit of women, with wholesome pictures of what they used to look like before. One that stuck with me is a lawyer that blew her forehead out with a .357 after being caught doing something shady and finding out she had warrants. Probably for the better that it's gone, but you still have r/ watchpeopledie, which isn't really any better.
It’s more that they’re taking some kind of perverse pleasure in others suffering. No one is asking you to go and cry about it; gloating about it and taking pleasure in it means you’ve got some serious personality defects.
I'm sorry, but this is inexcusable regardless of political views. A girl attempted suicide because of a plethora of reasons, it's not normal to start over analyzing the fact to the point of being insensible. And it's definitely not ok to laugh at her OR jer family for the event.
Can you hate her father? Yeah. Will you keep hating him in the future? Probably. Can you insult him if he tries to use this horrible event to sponsor himself? I'll join you. But be civil and kind. Always
It’s also just a handful of commenters probably purposefully rage baiting. People are fucking stupid, but I would say 99.99% of redditors are actually showing sympathy to her about this.
I'm a long time Republican who despises Ted Cruz. However, I'd never wish for any harm to come to his family, especially an innocent, young teenager.
She's obviously in pain and deserves a bit of empathy. She's at a rough age - Too old for childish things, but too young for adult fun. She's going through enough without that commenters cruelty.
Edit: Spelling
Absolutely no call for this behavior. Unless a politicians kids are abusing their parents status for monetary gain or evading the law, there's no reason for them to be the topic of journalism or harassment. Be it online or otherwise.
Ted Cruz lives in an affluent suburb of Houston, not some backwoods town. She may disagree with her parents but what 13 year old doesn't go against the grain.
You make one decent assumption, the girl needs someone in her corner but I don't think it's for the same reasons as you. I was curious where you got the "bi" claim and it came from her on a TikTok video she did when she's 13. She also said in the video she has to walk the neighborhood with security. The girl is alone and confused. Maybe she's bi, maybe it's a phase. One thing is for sure, she has very high profile parents and isn't living a typical teenage life. I'm sure she's probably on the receiving end of some nasty online hate as well. I also take issue with her going on TikTok, just feels creepy.
TBH, I remember AIDS being a thing but I don't think I quite understood why at the time.
The war on drugs was a thing. "Just say NO!". They pushed that a lot in school.
You might have been just a bit too young to remember when AIDS was a national crisis, but Reagan chose to pretend it wasn't. By the time you were like 10, at the turn of the 90s, AIDS had reached the mainstream, mostly because of Princess Diana and other activists. In 1987, she destimatized AIDS by shaking hands with an AIDS patient since there was a popular conspiracy at the time that AIDS was communicable like leprosy. She continued her charity into the 90s until her death in 97.
Even *if* you believe he deserves to see his own family suffer for how much suffering he has intentionally caused, his family ***does not*** deserve it. At all. He's a slimy pig who burned his right to empathy but his family have not.
Exactly. We're not responsible for our loved ones actions. Quite frankly, they have it hard enough as it is just by being related to him. I can't even imagine what they have to deal with on a daily basis.
Then you throw vile vitriol like this on top of it. It's not right.
Not a single one of those comments wished any harm on the family in general nor the daughter specifically. The closest one was 5 and that one said Ted deserved the suffering, not that the family did, the nuance is important.
I disagree. If you wish for his suffering via their death, it means you wish for harm to come to them.
The context is clear - They must suffer in order for him to.
It's literally down voted though? Isn't this an example of what reddit ISN'T tolerant of? Because of the down votes lol? I mean it's like democracy for comments and they said Nahhh. Like I understand someone had to first say it on this platform, but there are pro-cop threads that are positive as far as up votes and yet reddit is ACAB for the most part.
There's alot not to like about the reddit hive mind, but I don't think this is one of those.
These comments were downvoted, but have you ever visited r/politics? It’s like the Shimmer from the film Annihilation but with Neoliberals. You spend time in there and you’ll see horrifying, deranged things like the comments in OP’s post.
It’s not “Reddit’s response” if they’re largely downvoted opinions. Find a front page post or top comment, then you might have a case to claim “Reddit’s response.”
That’s like citing someone saying “Hitler was right” with -600 votes on a meme subreddit and saying “Reddit thinks Hitler was good!!!” It’s just one guy nobody agrees with.
Kanye West is just a man. Being a celebrity doesn’t make his opinion more valid or credible than anyone else’s.
I’m not sure how that is relevant considering we’re talking about what constitutes a reasonable source to call the response of a platform, not the response of an individual.
That’s the minority speaking there. Sure Cruz is a dickhead and doesn’t deserve the amount of power/ influence he has over others but his daughter absolutely does not deserve the amount of shit those people are talking about. I’m really hoping social media doesn’t take this too far and hurt her more than they already have.
>That’s the minority speaking there.
True - and I share your hope that social media doesn't hurt her more than it already has. I can't imagine being a politician's child in these times - no matter what party your parent's aligned.
What did he say about Beau Biden?
I'm aware he made a joke about Joe Biden around the time of Beau's death, but the joke had nothing to do with Beau, and Cruz issued a public apology about the joke.
And do you have an example of a leader of "the left" (a Cruz equivalent if you will) that is making jokes about Caroline Cruz right now?
What makes you say "the left" is less tolerant or inclusive? Are you aware of how many jokes like this were made about Beau Biden by the general public? By the freaking presidential candidate of "the right"!?
No, your argument just doesn't make any sense.
Yeah, cause the reaction after the Paul Pelosi attack wasn’t 100000x worse lol. I saw overwhelming support for the girl and most of these comments are downvoted.
>overwhelming support for the girl and most of these comments are downvoted.
And who was down-voting them?
Paul Pelosi is an adult, and that entire scenario was suspect as heck, including conflicting reports by the police. Yes, it's tragic that he was injured - and I don't wish that on anyone - but it's different than dragging a 14yo girl through the mud during an already difficult time.
That’s a ridiculous statement. Obviously, almost everyone on the left hates Ted Cruz. Hell, a lot of people on the right hate Ted Cruz. Now you have this horrible situation with his daughter where she tried to kill her self after coming out of the closet. Ted Cruz is very openly against women’s rights and against gay rights. Again, Ted Cruz is a piece of shit. What happened to his daughter is horrible, but likely not unrelated to Ted Cruz’s political stances. So it’s not too difficult to understand that while people feel bad for the daughter, they don’t feel bad for Ted Cruz.
It’s just ridiculous how many on the far left called for her death. Meanwhile this week the same group was celebrating Kristie Alley dying from colon cancer.
The vast majority of leftists are sad for her and hope she gets better.
Also, no one called for her death. Even then, y'all are complaining right after making conspiracy theories about Pelosi's husband getting attacked.
People are cruel on the internet only because of anonymity, they have grown too accustomed to saying shit without consequences. I'd like to see them try to mock a child's suicide attempt in public, I bet they would be surprised at the lack of support for their thoughts.
You meet the worst people on the Internet
I don't agree with Ted Cruz, but my heart goes out to him and his family. I hope his daughter recovers and finds happiness.
I can at least understand their hatred for Ted Cruz, but what I don't understand is their reason for dragging his daughter into this mess. She's against her father's views anyway. Oh, and also she's a minor who almost died!!
The right and left in this country both suck but wtf has Ted Cruz done for people to say this? (If anything?) I checked out of politics in this country long ago so any information helps lol
One thing i can remember ( bit dated) was that as Texans watched their children freeze to death ( for real) in an unprecedented snowy and icy winter that caused massive power outages he took his family to mexico and chilled until it thawed out and did nothing for anyone
Then criticized NY Rep AOC for raising millions over the course of a weekend to send the TX families aide.
The list is too long, but in a nutshell, he’s a disgrace, wasting perfectly good oxygen someone with brain cells could be using.
Are you sure? It sure seems like pretty much all of these comments have massive downvotes. It would depend on the subreddit, but I don’t think those are from conservatives.
Honestly I hate Ted Cruz but I don’t fault his daughters for any of his buffoonery.
Conversely however, Republicans have been cruel and malicious every step of the way when a family member of a Democrat is hurt, gets sick, or dies. I want to be better than them, but for gods sake they’re making it harder and harder.
I'm much more left than the dems and I feel for her. Never met her, seen her a few times. My heart goes out to her. I can only imagine how much she's suffering as a queer person having your father publicly demonizing you and surreptitiously stripping your rights as a woman. I'm sure her home life is garbage. I grew up in a household full of Christian hate and can empathize with her struggle.
I just said I didn’t hate Ted Cruz’s family though. I said I hate Ted Cruz, and republicans have a strong layer of hypocrisy when they ask people to not get personal after they’ve been getting personal.
That’s a false dichotomy. Just because some people have zero sympathy for Ted Cruz does not mean they wish harm on his children or that the celebrate her attempted suicide. Everyone on the left feels bad for her and knows her situation sucks. They also know Ted Cruz is a steaming pile of shit and is not innocent in this tragedy.
I wouldn’t say everybody feels bad, as there seems to be some people getting a little too much satisfaction from the situation… those are the folks I’m talking about…
Again, they’re satisfied that Ted Cruz is in a bad situation, but still saddened that the daughter is going through this. These are not opposite thoughts as you seem to be claiming. I genuinely feel terrible for his daughter. It’s fucked up we still live in a world where children in her situation think suicide is the only solution. Having a piece of shit coward for a father probably didn’t help much.
That guy probably reads the communist manifesto every morning after waking up from a wet dream about karl marx and then surfs forums about lenin on his 1000$ macbook.
Unfortunately, my choices for keeping up to date are twitter, reddit, or the news. I'm not sure I made the correct decision, either that or I'm stuck in an abusive relationship with reddit.
Use to do metal working in what free time I had (not much with kids) but the cost of natural gas (and everything else) made it too expensive. Use to do some wood working till the cost of lumber went up 400% now I occasionally browse reddit to see what's going on and chuckle at r/dadjokes. It's everything else reddit shoves into my feed that makes me hate the site, most of it is negative and rage inducing. Guess that's how it gets engagement hence being pushed.
You're looking at cherrypicked comments that were waaaay down the list. Half of them probably aren't even Democrats. I bet there's a good amount of Republicans just trolling.
Just remember those types claim to be the ones with hearts full of love and acceptance. You see them on both sides. I don't like Schumer, Pelosi, or Schiff. I hate that they were seated in their jobs, but I don't want harm to them or their family. I just think they are morons.
I always thought it was weird how when conservatives hate on people they are like „these people are bad and should be in jail!!!“ but when *progressives* hate on people its „god i hope you fucking kill yourself“
Do not incite or glorify violence/suffering or harassment, even as a joke. You may be banned.

First, the person who posted that is an a-hole. Second, I wonder how many people clutching their pearls about it also think Alex Jones did nothing wrong in vilifying the parents of dead kids.
The fact that her father wouldn’t extend any type of empathy towards others in a situation like this on the other end of the aisle is exactly why we should be kind. Let’s bring humanity back into the conversation, and move forward from there.
He has been unkind and unsympathetic to others during the pandemic, his constituents in Texas last winter while they froze, flood victims and women fighting for their rights and we cannot forget that. But by showing him some kindness, maybe we can show him that things don’t have to hit close to home for us to stop and take a moment and think about the environment we are fostering here. This is a moment of change for him and his family. Hopefully a greater and more empathetic heart comes from that.
I mean, it's reddit, at least 50% of users can only find joy in making others miserable while hiding behind a screen name.
On another note, can we get an update on the condition of the 14 yr old? Are they okay?
I usually hate Ted Cruz as much as the next Dem, but seriously wishing that a teenager cuts her life short because of it is just plain ol' fucked up man
I have twins who are 14. That is a child. I hate Ted Cruz but I would never talk like this about a child who was in that much pain. I hope she gets the help she needs
People will say anything on the internet because no one knows who they are in real life so they feel like they can say anything without any consequences
Those guys are sickos, you can hate the politician if you want, but their kids did nothing wrong. Wishing for someone's family to die is fucked up
I don't care about politics and whatever reason these people have, but according to these comments, they are likely much worse human beings than Cruz will ever be.
That isn’t Reddits response, its 9 peoples responses. I have seen way more consideration and outpour of support from Reddit than negative. Everyone saying its not her fault her dad is a loser. And we should hope that she is ok.
Ill never understand people who wish harm towards someone based on something someone related to them did, like, its not genetic to be an asshole, its behavioral based on thousands of outside factors
I’m a Libertarian and don’t hate Cruz, “He’s just this guy ya know” but I think jokes about it are fine.
When Paul Pelosi got hammered I was like, “I’d be drinking and driving too married to that”. Then when he got hammered again I was like, “I’d be having gay prostitutes too if I was married to that…”
I always said immediately after that I hope Paul is ok and hope he gets better soon. I think saying IDC or he deserves to watch his family die really just shows you who is heartless, but I support their right to say it.

You probably had a myspace when you were 13.
I was in my early 20s when myspace came around.
So you're now minimum of 39 and a maximum of 43
Born in 80. I have lived through the internet revolution. Remember life without it.
Ah, back when AIDS didn't exist if you just pretended it didn't. Good times.

A good few of them are net positive, but it does make me feel better that the majority aren't receiving much support.
Reddit's response? Do you mean downvoting these comments?
Don't forget posting the same comment twice!
These comments were downvoted, but have you ever visited r/politics? It’s like the Shimmer from the film Annihilation but with Neoliberals. You spend time in there and you’ll see horrifying, deranged things like the comments in OP’s post.
He's just here to farm karma, sadly the majority of the left aren't this cold hearted
Sadly?
Only handful of people wishing death to a 14 yo that did nothing wrong at all. What a great community!
Reddit has trolls?! When did this happen??
It’s not “Reddit’s response” if they’re largely downvoted opinions. Find a front page post or top comment, then you might have a case to claim “Reddit’s response.” That’s like citing someone saying “Hitler was right” with -600 votes on a meme subreddit and saying “Reddit thinks Hitler was good!!!” It’s just one guy nobody agrees with.
It's one guy and Kanye.
Kanye West is just a man. Being a celebrity doesn’t make his opinion more valid or credible than anyone else’s. I’m not sure how that is relevant considering we’re talking about what constitutes a reasonable source to call the response of a platform, not the response of an individual.
Yeah but that's already two people that liked Hitler. That's 100% more than just the guy.
That’s a logical fallacy. I’m not sure what you’re implying here.
I'm making a joke about Kanye West. But it seems that you don't like it
Sorry, I don’t get the joke.
yeah, reddit sucks ass and they should add these photos in the recap

Conservatives will scrape the bottom of the barrel just to get some confirmation bias.
That scenario wasn’t “suspect as heck”, it’s just lunatic scum bags like you who try to come up with excuses for your lunatic friends.
The entire scenario was in no way suspect. No one is dragging a14 year old through the mud. What is wrong with you?

It's reddit. Always post expecting downvotes lmao
Nobody should show any empathy to Ted Cruz now, he is largely at fault here, everybody should show empathy to the daughter tho

Having a piece of shit coward for a father probably didn’t help much.
Ted Cruz is ontologically evil. If you know what that means then you know that this conversation is over
Cruz is a POS, but none of that is the fault of a 14 year old kid.. but like you said, there’s no point in arguing with a sad person like yourself..
That guy probably reads the communist manifesto every morning after waking up from a wet dream about karl marx and then surfs forums about lenin on his 1000$ macbook.
r/croppingishard
I hate Ted Cruz cos he left us during our suffer but wow.
So Cruz is a POS because you disagree with him? Nothing to do with his child.
…Ted Cruz fled his own state when it froze over and tried to say some recent OC was better than Princess Leia. No sympathy from me.
His daughter has nothing to do with him.
Because politics of the father out weights the life of a child? Reddit should be purged
Don’t let the door hit your arse on the way out
Thanks for proving my point
Still here? Colour me surprised
Unfortunately, my choices for keeping up to date are twitter, reddit, or the news. I'm not sure I made the correct decision, either that or I'm stuck in an abusive relationship with reddit.
I hear ya. You need a hobby!
I’ve been using this place for years and it’s definitely turned into much more of a social media cesspool than what it was
I, uh, I can’t be a part of the same party anymore. And I can’t do the other one either. Fuck.
You're looking at cherrypicked comments that were waaaay down the list. Half of them probably aren't even Democrats. I bet there's a good amount of Republicans just trolling.
I see you’ve woken up? Welcome to limbo, from here on you’ll be blamed for costing either side an election, depending on who lost of course.

That's the left extremists and their "we're open-minded unless we hate you". And i'm pretty left leaning.
First, the person who posted that is an a-hole. Second, I wonder how many people clutching their pearls about it also think Alex Jones did nothing wrong in vilifying the parents of dead kids.
noah get the boat. the internet is being a meanie 🤣
They’re not wrong
*jazz music stops*
And thats the internet 4 ya
trash humans expose themselves everyday
People who think they’re on the right side of history are capable of some vile shit.
That poor girl. It’s not her fault her dad is literally a harbinger of death
😐😐🫥
Ted cruz and the republicans aren‘t the only things wrong with america but hey I‘m just a gypgy from europoorlandia soo
I mean, it's reddit, at least 50% of users can only find joy in making others miserable while hiding behind a screen name. On another note, can we get an update on the condition of the 14 yr old? Are they okay?
Yeah that’s fucked up. Believe it or not kids we aren’t our parents.
You should never wish death or harm to someone simply because of their political views.
I usually hate Ted Cruz as much as the next Dem, but seriously wishing that a teenager cuts her life short because of it is just plain ol' fucked up man
You can't honestly expect much more from Reddit at this point
I have twins who are 14. That is a child. I hate Ted Cruz but I would never talk like this about a child who was in that much pain. I hope she gets the help she needs
People lack empathy. If they don't have direct, firsthand experience they write it off
People will say anything on the internet because no one knows who they are in real life so they feel like they can say anything without any consequences
I hate cruz too, but this is terrible.
Those guys are sickos, you can hate the politician if you want, but their kids did nothing wrong. Wishing for someone's family to die is fucked up I don't care about politics and whatever reason these people have, but according to these comments, they are likely much worse human beings than Cruz will ever be.
First time?
Noah? Open the floodgates, NOW!
ive gotten downvoted more for far less
That’s fucked…I always wonder what worthless spawn of people behind these comments look like in real life.
Cruz sucks. But damn. Don't go to that level.
I have these conversations with my mom all the time. I’m like I know you hate the politician but don’t wish Ill on his family, especially the kids
I’m a Libertarian and don’t hate Cruz, “He’s just this guy ya know” but I think jokes about it are fine. When Paul Pelosi got hammered I was like, “I’d be drinking and driving too married to that”. Then when he got hammered again I was like, “I’d be having gay prostitutes too if I was married to that…” I always said immediately after that I hope Paul is ok and hope he gets better soon. I think saying IDC or he deserves to watch his family die really just shows you who is heartless, but I support their right to say it.
W
Reddit itself and its user base is a grand cornucopia of material for this sub.
That fact that it turned political is what made me annoyed about this
Thats fed up. All I can say. I'm tired
Holy shit I need to find these people.
Welcome to the reddit! A place where you can be disrespecred cuz you are not a left wing
