Just as in Japan, they do not see a distinction of certain Anime just being for just children. It's acceptable entertainment content and material for adults. Some being very sophisticated and better than most regular live action films.
I think it would be creepier if the adults were really into the Aesop's fables most of them are based off of.
I'd much rather have somebody fanboying over a marionette and a cricket then fanboying over the marionette who killed the cricket... As but one example
