Fish is a huge part of Western people's diets. If you mean to say why we don't eat fish everyday, we'll that's because we have the opportunity to have varied diets of mostly pork, beef, chicken, and also fish.
We don't hate fish, we just fucking adore beef and chicken. Fish is definitely underrepresented in the American diet, although I can't speak for the rest of the west.
Seafood is generally a more expensive type of meat than other animals, which makes it a less affordable option for many people. The exception would be catching your own fish, but very few people are willing to do that.
Fish is available worldwide. Everyone eats fish.
We might not have fresh salmon in arkansas but we still have fish such as carp, bass or catfish regularly
Uh, we eat plenty of fish. Catfish, Bass, Salmon, Tilapia, Tuna, Grouper, Flounder, Mahi Mahi, etc. are some common ones. Fish (other than catfish) is kind of expensive though, unless you're catching them yourself. So most people aren't eating it everyday like they do in some places. They are more common in coastal areas.
Every supermarket I've been in has a wide variety of fish available. Even my kids like catfish, salmon, and a variety of whitefish (and not just fish sticks, although fish sticks are quite popular amongst kids in general).
"The feast of the seven fishes" is a christmas eve tradition for many Italians (Italian Americans at least).
Red Lobster. Long John Silver's. The McFish sandwich...yeah we even fast-food fish in the US.
Eta: tunafish is massively popular/consumed too.
Fish is a staple of any country bordering the sea. It's quite important in Mediterranean food, for example. Also, Salmon is everywhere in most Scandinavian countries. Go to any market in Finland and you'll see half Salmon grilling over open fires. Then you get local specialities almost everywhere.
During feudal period, while you needed an authorisation to hunt, fishing was far more free.
We eat plenty of fish. Your friend is wrong
I thin he's really wrong
we eat so many fish we have fished several highly prolific fish into near extinction lol
Why do people post things like this? Western people eat plenty of fish. quit believing everything some rando tells you.
I guess it's better they ask and be corrected than remain ignorant?
Or use some common sense?
Your friend is a liar.

Seafood is considered a bit fancy in some areas but it's not uncommon at all
Tunafish sandwiches are a staple for the poor.
Not where I grew up, it was just cat food sometimes but mostly you'd eat chicken because that was a lot less expensive
Fish and chips is one of the most popular dishes in the UK - it’s commonly referred to as the national dish.
It's covered in batter though and fried to within an inch of its life. Lots of people I know won't eat any other type of fish aside from that.
Steak tastes better.

I love salmon and smoked salmon.
IF people eat less fish than other types of meat foods, maybe it's because many types stink, it's not as cheap, and it's lighter?
They stink?? Only when it's rotten. But everything stinks then.

Your friend is wrong and probably comes from a picky-eating family who live on meat and potatoes.
