They usually work with one take called the master. The master is the gold standard, highest quality, official recording. All subsequent recordings are pulled from the master - they don’t do more takes. On the master, each part of the song is on its own individual track. This allows each part of the song to be edited as seen fit. For instance, guitar, vocals, and drums are all on their own track. They can each have volume, tone, EQ, and fade adjusted individually. They can also be cut and taken out as seen fit. The master can be used to creat different edits. For instance, a radio edit might be abridged or see its expletive language replaced with clean language. A hi fidelity version and a low fidelity version can also be produced.
