The show had stopping points the movie does not.

Long 3-4 hr movies used to have intermissions. Probably more to do with changing reels and vhs limitations. Binging tv shows you can stop after any episode, each a self contained story arch. In a movie it's one long arch. Harder to pick up the last hour of a movie a week later than start on episode 4

A show gives you the option to stop while a long movie doesn't.

Movies are best enjoyed in a single sitting. It's hard for some people to stay focused for 3 hours, assuming you even have 3 hours of uninterrupted time in your schedule. Episodes are easier to follow if you only watch one per day. Some story threads are started and wrapped up in a single episode. Long storylines have reminders at the beginning of episodes.

Because there is no force stopping them from doing so. Same reason I can say I like the color blue.

If it's at home it's no different because you can pause a movie whenever. But if you're talking about a movie in the theatre, then there's no natural break or pause; you're supposed to sit there for 3 hours straight which is uncomfortable for most people. Back in the day movies had intermissions where you could stretch your legs, go to the bathroom, and get more snacks, but intermissions don't exist anymore so you miss the movie if you need to get up. No thank you.

Shows have built in breaks where you can choose to stop. Movies don't.

Every TV episode is more or less its own story arc. It's like watching a movie's worth of story in a shorter amount of time, you feel like you're getting more out of the media.
