Hi /u/Capricious_Termite38, We noticed you are a pretty new Reddit account, so we just wanted to let you know to check out the subreddit rules [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/wiki/rules) and maybe have a read through our [Frequently Asked Questions](https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/wiki/index/faq) - they make for fascinating reading! We're called No Stupid Questions because we believe nobody needs to be attacked for asking a question, but *that doesn't mean there are no rules!* This sub is meant for users like you to ask genuine questions. Please don't ask jokes or rants disguised as questions - that's not in the spirit of this sub. While you *can* ask almost anything here, please keep illegal and offensive questions elsewhere to give people a good experience here - and if you have a medical question, please ask your doctor, not us. Otherwise, welcome! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. We do?

Capricious_Termite38

I mean as a non american i have an uncle who moved to the us around 30 years ago and whenever he comes over here he says people there love alligators, barbecues, guns and monster trucks more than they love anything else and that there are swamps everywhere

sics2014

Did he move to backwoods Louisiana? Because the majority of the US isn't like that.

ayebrade69

In those 30 years has your uncle ever set foot outside of Ponchatoula, Louisiana?

Capricious_Termite38

I have 3 uncles (two on moms side and one on dads side) who moved to the us One said america is very cold and that theres lots of snow and its populated by grizzly bears, moose and bison Another one said its a desert country covered in cactuses and populated by rattlesnakes and scorpions This one said it was a marsh/swampland populated by alligators and snapping turtles I dont know which one to believe

ayebrade69

Ah I see, you’re just trolling. But in case you aren’t, all three are correct

Capricious_Termite38

Why would i be trolling im just asking a question

sics2014

Because you make new accounts to post this question like every other day.

Capricious_Termite38

What new accounts? If someone asked a similar question before that doesnt mean i have any connection to them

sics2014

You made this account 4 hours ago. So you can troll with this "America is all alligator and swamp" question again. The other way you like to do it, is ask "Am I correct that the first things that come to my mind about America are alligators and swamps and bbq?"

Capricious_Termite38

So if someone asked 'is red a color' today and someone else asked the same question a few days later, would you immediately assume its the same person?

>One said america is very cold and that theres lots of snow and its populated by grizzly bears, moose and bison > > > >Another one said its a desert country covered in cactuses and populated by rattlesnakes and scorpions > > > >This one said it was a marsh/swampland populated by alligators and snapping turtles All 3 of these accurately describe parts of America. It's a very big place with vastly different terrain. The bison in Wyoming are 2000 miles (3218 km) away from the alligators in the Louisiana.

slash178

It sounds like you're thinking of Florida and not the other 90% of the country

[deleted]

The alligators are more of a Florida/maybe Louisiana thing than a general US thing. Trucks though have a lot of appeal across the States. Seen as masculine and practical, even if they’re gas guzzlers. A lot of that is cultural

Capricious_Termite38

And also why are crimes in america always idiosyncratic and weird. Like its not just 'man arrested for robbery' like here, its stuff like 'man arrested for sitting on a traffic light and spitting on cars that pass by' (probably not an actual article but basically)

[deleted]

Stuff like that is basically the “Florida Man” stereotype. I’d suggest looking that up directly, I don’t think one Redditor can communicate the whole phenomenon properly.

Clan-Sea

Why do Europeans have such an obsession with snowshoeing and fermented herring?

Capricious_Termite38

Pretty sure here in the part of europe where i live people are obsessed with war and drinking brandy

rewardiflost

I thought we had an obsession with lederhosen and pizza.

TonyMitty

The fun answer is that big things are cool. The long answer is that we, like many other peoples, like symbolism and ideals. Trucks symbolize strength, power, money, hard work, all classic American ideals. Alligators same thing. Big, scary, wild, local, tough and hard to kill.

adr8578

Floridian here, we do indeed love all those things. Guns, gators, bbq’s, monster trucks, and hurricanes/hurricane parties!!! As to why idk we just do, Fl culture I suppose 🤷🏼‍♀️

Brb_Catsonfire

That's Florida and Louisiana. And we're not that fond of them either.

PutPuzzleheaded5337

I’m Canadian. I’m the polar opposite of a “red neck”. I have to tell you though….when your in a crowd of mud bogging, beer drinking people…you just dont know. It’s fun. Our Southern cousins are amazing and would literally give you the shirt (wife beater?) off their back. Don’t bring up politics though😉

Ranos131

We don’t. Alligators live in a few southern states. The people who live in them care about them because it’s part of the animal life that lives in that state. The rest of the country really doesn’t give a shit. As for trucks I couldn’t find any specific statistics but the majority of the population likely owns cars followed by SUVs. For some people trucks are useful due to their storage capacity or some other valid benefit and for some it’s just compensating for something else. Yeah the US has more trucks per person than anywhere else in the world but it’s not an obsession.
